  1. Our local STAR Touring group and the local GWRRA groups (I am in both) are going to Neihaus Cycles in Litchfield, IL this weekend. I like going on Friday, but both groups are also going on Saturday for those that can't get away during the week. I may not go this Friday, in honor of $3 gas and it is a somewhat long ride for me. Anyone going Saturday? We plan on eating lunch at the Ariston Cafe, and check out the new bikes. (the new Cassette holder for the Venture!)
  2. How does everyone feel about having nitrogen put into tires. I have it in my truck tires and they don't seem to loose pressure with temp change. Now only check them when I have my oil changed. Now more local dealers and Quick oil change places are starting to cary nitrogen. One local Custom Cycle shop here also will put nitrogen in MC tires!!! Any feedback or thought on this.
  3. Hey gang, might check out your local Costco for Go Pros for $99. Don't know if its local or nationwide. Denny
  4. OK, DQ fans! This week only: buy a Blizzard and get another one for a quarter!http://email.secureserver.net/view_print_multi.php?uidArray=170580%7CINBOX&aEmlPart=0http://email.secureserver.net/view_print_multi.php?uidArray=170580%7CINBOX&aEmlPart=0
  5. I must admit - I'm addicted to Craigslist!! I check it several times a day and have found some pretty good deals. If you find a really good deal - you need to act fast! Last week I almost got a 2001 BMW Touring bike from a local for $4500 but I was the 3rd person who called and the first guy took it, of course. My best deal was my 2000 MM Venture with 13,000 miles for 6,000. My best deal ever in the local classifieds was an 86 Goldwing Aspencade for $400 and I rewired the stator and sold it for $3,000.
  6. Great gathering in Gautier last Saturday for the yearly CMA sponsored 'Blessing of the Bikes' Local media estimated about 1000 bikes showed up. I counted 5 other Ventures in the crowd. Sadly wasn't able to find the owners before they rode off. On a side note the local multi brand stealership has a new 2010 Venture on the floor listing at $19,600.00 Only difference I see is the flame decals on the fairing, tank, bags. Anyone in the area interested, we're doing a ride to Camp Shelby (Hattiesburg) Armed Forces Museum tomorrow, 3/27. Will be there about 1030 or so.
  7. I've been seeing more and more ads and commercials about how important "keeping it local" is. I have no problem with that all. I support my local butcher and fruit/vegetable farmers as much as I can. But then there's just about everything else a guy needs. The local grocery and hardware stores have way over inflated prices, and that's only if you happen to be able to find what you need. One of the lacal hardware stores wanted $4.50/ft. for some chain for my snow-blower. I found it in the next town over at a Mennonite owned hardware store for $1.56/ft. So I end up driving 45 minute to Wally World where it's cheaper. But then they still don't carry a good share of the things I'm looking for. And if you ask they usually say it's seasonal or just plain have no idea what I'm asking for. It's gotten hard to find someone who knows what their talking about behind the counter at some the auto parts stores. Menards and Best Buy seldom ever have anything I need. So I end up doing most of my business online. So I have to wonder if the same people who put on those ads saying to "keep it local", ever talk to the "local" businesses about their extremely high prices. I think that if they were asking fair prices, I would have no problem doing more of my business with them. Is it because I'm getting older? Am I turning into my Dad?!?!
  8. HI THERE I was wondering if anybody could help me locate the black rubber moulds that go on the top and bottom of the chrome strip at the base of the windscreen on an 86 venture. I have tried all the local dealers here in Adelaide and am told they are no longer available. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. :fiddle: KEEP THE BLACK BITS DOWN
  9. I want to tune my carbs and need a vacuum guage. Does any know if I can get one at a local store? Any particular type? Thanks Mark
  10. Well at my new job I work with a good o'l boy from Tennessee. He has this drawl to his speech and it got me to thinking (ya I know that could be dangerous). Where ever we live we all have local words or phrases that we use and repeat often. Here is scandihovian country UFTDA is used alot by them there Norskies. It don't really mean anything it is used just to take up space when replying to someone that said somthing shocking. LIKE IN: Did ya hear about Mrs Yohnson her daughter ran off with the baker's son...... REPLY: UFTDA, I didn't know that Sven So do you have any of these local words to share? How about: He ain't worth a lick! What the heck is a lick anyway? So give your word and tell what the heck it means if anything. Yes I am bored Martha. I am sitting here waiting for my daughter and family to drive in from Madison WI. I know Boomer has a few from out in Connecticut way or from Louisiana bayou. Well I am waiting!!!!!!!! :dancefool:
  11. Being a rather new RSTD owners, I wanted to know if there is any interest in a local meet and Eat for Venture and RSTD owners. If you live in the area, and would like to meet other owners in the local area please send me your contact information. Hopefully, we can get something going here. PLEASE RESPOND IF INTERESTED! THANKS MARK

  13. I just ran into these ebay items in Florida and they should go pretty cheap, as they're pick-up only. If it were local I'd pick the stuff up for spare plastic...just because. 320437690094, 320437687937

  16. Once again this year I will be participating in the Ontario B.E.A.T Cancer Ride (Bikers Ending All Types of cancer) I want to let our local members know about the ride, which will taking place Sept 27, 2009. The ride starts from Turtle Jack's on Fairview street in Burlington. Registration is 9:30 am. Last year I was on the executive committee for this ride, and raised over $3500 for the cause. This year I was not able to participate in that capacity, however I still will be riding for the cause. I have a personal page set up with the cancer society where you can find details about the ride, and more importantly you can pledge a few dollars online to the ride. Every little bit helps. I hope some of our local members will be able to join me that day for the ride, and I am hopeful that some of you will be generous, and help me raise some funds for a great cause, that touches far too many of us very close to home. The link to my site is below. Thank you, Sonny http://convio.cancer.ca/goto/sonnyrattan
  17. Did I see somewhere on here that Wal mart sells Ride On tire sealant? Or is there any local type store that sells them?
  18. Tomorrow we get to ride in honor in of the fallen soldiers. It is a wonderful way to remember those that are willing to place themselves (and their families) between us and those that wish to do us harm. Thank you to all who have or are now serving in the armed forces. Anyone local that would like to join us but didn't know about this event, please come out. http://www.rideforthefallen.us Dave
  19. Thought I would send a few pics of some cars we saw at a local car show.

  21. Where can I buy it - my local honda shop is out
  22. I installed a new set of Avon Venoms on my '88 VR and went for a short ride. I feel a vibration over 65 MPH so I came back home and took the front tire and rim to the local stealer to get it balanced. He informed me that the tech said he couldn't balance it because the wheel bearings were worn out and that they needed replacing. At first I figured it was just a ploy to get more money out of me but then I considered that the bike is 21 years old and not being the original owner I don't know just how old the bearings really are. SO I told him I would order the parts since I get all my parts through Flatout and have so far saved a ton of money over the prices that my local stealer has quoted me. My question is just how dificult is it to replace these bearings and what all parts do I need to order from Flatout to make this repair. Also do I need any special tools to make this repair? Any excuse I can find to get new tools works for me! As always thanks for all the assitance. MC
  23. Hi, I want to replace the H.T. leads to the spark plugs on my '84. What do I need to ask for at my local auto parts counter? I notice that one local supplier (not usually my first chioce) has a selection of pre-made NGK wires on the shelf. Is there a ready made NGK part that would be a good choice? Prices across the range he had were about $22 Cdn / wire. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks, Brian H.
  24. Hello , 1st time posting , relitively new member and 1st time Venture owner. I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice. I recently bought a 90 Royale, which has 70,000 k's . I have put roughly 600 k's on it , to me , it runs like a watch, but am planning a 8 to 10,000 k ride this summer. I cannot find a manual and was trying to find out say, is the bike due for a cam chain adjustment, carb sync ?, i live in Victoria, Vancouver Island , Canada, none of the local dealers here will even look at it, myself, i'm in the auto repair business, and am fairly mechanically inclined. The usuals, oil, filter, rear diff, brakes , etc. have all been done. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Geoff:confused07:
  25. Anybody heard of a TCB Classic? It comes in a 165-80R-15. They said its made by cooper tire. I can buy it local for $56.00
