  1. This has probably been discussed before and a thorough search may result in my answer, so far it hasn't.... A buddy just bought a 1500 wing without the CD system on it. We were trying to decide how difficult it might be to use a regular CB unit in a pocket and build a harness that could adapt to the cycle intercom system to allow bike to bike communication. Has anybody done this, or does anybody know of any ready made adapters that would plug into a factory intercom system?
  2. I've posted on this twice before but today learned something new. First, I bought one of the edsets adapters that let you plug in earbuds with the intercom. I used a pair of earbuds my wife bought at walmart for $14.00. The adapter and earbuds are great except for the click of the engine I hear in the earbuds. I bought a pair of koss earbuds at walmart for $24.00 and I didn't get any engine noise in them so I bought a second adapter so my wife can use earbuds with the intercom also. Today I received the second adpater and plugged in the koss earbuds. Music is great until I started the engine and then click, click, click. I noticed the intercom volume was at 16 so I turned the volume down to zero and guess what? No engine clicking in the earbuds. If you want to listen to music only turn the intercom volume down and there is no noise. This brings another question to mind. If I have the mike mute installed will I get the engine noise when the intercom is set to 16 since the intercom doesn't work until you press the talk button?
  3. I bought the universal adpater from edsets so I can use earbuds with the intercom system on my bike. The sound is excellent but I can't stand the clicking noise of the engine. With the regular intercom connection I can hear the noise but it isn't loud enough to cause a problem. With the earbuds with the adapter the noise is so loud it drives my crazy. I've read on here where you can move the wires around under the tank and sometime the noise will go away. Which wires under the tank do you move to correct this and are there any other ways to stop the clicking? Thanks, Eddie
  4. Hi, New here, Getting a nice first gen Venture tomorrow, 1983. I will be riding with my wife. We will be using full face helmets. What is a economical (not necessary cheap) intercom for us to use? Main use is just talking back and forth so wired to each other is fine with us. Now if possible a way to plug in a mp3 player so we could both listen would be nice but mainly just her and I talking back and forth. Any suggestions, please? Thanks Brian
  5. Aerostich has an intercom system adpater #3900 that reduces your standard intercom to a 3.5mm stero plug for use with earbuds and earspeakers. Anyone tried this or no if it works? Thanks.
  6. Alright I have been a member for awhile and learned many good things from the generosity of the good folks on this sight. I am looking for an intercom for my bike as I have a 06 RSTD it does not have such luxuries. Who can recommend a decent setup with out the High price I am finding on the web? Thanks for any suggestions. I would like to get this now as our good rideing season is fast approaching. PRNTTEK Riverview Florida
  7. Has anyone else had problems with the intercom and radio on their Venture? I have an 07 and I have recently had the intercom system squeel and chirp. When this happens none of the controls for the radio or intercom work. I have to unplug the head sets and turn the bike off in order to use the radio and intercom (it seems like it resets adn all is good for a while). I have also had problems with the radio with the only control that works in the volume none of the other buttons work. I have not had a chance to take it into the dealer yet. Just looking to see if others have experienced this.
  8. My father-in-law has a 2002 Electra Glide Standard Harley with the touring pack and wants an intercom system for it. It is not set up for a intercom. What all will he need to hook one up? It just has a plain radio. If he gets an Autocom and buy the helmet speakers is this all he will need? Is there anyway to wire your radio thru this system? Thanks
  9. Hi- I have an 06 RSTD, trying to install a CB and an intercom. TOO much ignition, alternator and fuel pump noise. How have you solved this problem? Are there any filter kits available or do I need to do it myself? Helmets with J&M headsets are also used with another m/c, radio is Cobra handheld, intercom is Air Rider.
  10. Looking for a rear intercom base for an 87 Venture. Someone got off the bike with the helmet connected and overextended the cable. Broke the helmet connector plug in the base. Have been watching the net for one but no joy so far. If anyone has a line on a decent used one momma (who broke it) will be happy. Mind..... now I can't hear her over the headset now that I think about it . captainkirk@shaw.ca
  11. Welcome. I am pumped, totally. I just picked up my first Venture (3rd Yamaha) yesterday,(Labor Day) and rode it home about 3 hours, mostly interstate, through Chicago and then east toward Toledo. WOW, what a road bike. I test rode several GW's in the past month or so, and was just disappointed. No excitment, nothing there. Been trying to find a local Venture owner that would let me test ride, but no luck, so I just went ahead and purchased one, jumped on and rode it home. No regrets!! Previous owner truly pampered this 1989 Venture Royale, it close to a 10! But I am wondering a few things, that perhaps someone would take the time to answer. I am not used to the heel toe shifter yet. Not sure I want to be. I seem to recall reading that there are toe shifters available. Any thoughts on whether I should just get used to it, or change. What have other experianced with this. Also, my hopes are to get my wife riding with me (and enjoying it) Thought perhaps the intercom system would help. I can only imagine that there are really cruddy systems out there and some that are nice and clear, good sound quality. Should I use the intercom system built into the bike? or independent? I have never had or used an intercom system on a bike before. Some advice would be helpful. Thanks and Great Rides to all! Still trying to understand how to navigate and use this site. Looks like it's full of great information and insights. Hope I can become a worthy member of this group of like minded Venture Riders! The tingle up the leg was my wry attempt at humor, that some may get. But that comes close to descibing my feelings on my new (old) Venture.

    edset

Well, I finally installed my edset, and it went ok. But - it seems like I have to crank up the volume way up to get a bit of sound out of them. She who must be obeyed says when I intercom her it comes through nicely for her J&Ks - she has to turn her volume control down and I have to crank mine way up to hear her. Any idea about what gives here?
  13. Most of the intercom systems I see are for open faced helmets. Any out there you can recommend for a full faced helmet?
  14. . . Yea, and you thought I was talking about a Venture, LOL. I got a 2nd Gen iPhone for me and Mrs. GigaWhiskey. We shore like em too! Now, to figure out how to get the phone part to work with the Intercom. Now that would be cool. And, it just crossed my mind, I can watch movies while driving but better to let the wifee do that instead.
  15. Thanks to Edsets and Don for getting us a great deal. When we got the 04 earlier this year it came with two Tour Com helmets with J&M's installed. We tried them, Wrong size, not impressed with helmet, not impressed with sound quality. Installed the new Edsets in our Shoei RJ helmets last week, (the install was easy and looks great) and tried them out yesterday, awesome! One quirk that our 2nd gen audio systems seem to have is the open intercom. I had always assumed that the front and rear talk button was for the intercom and the CB. I guess it's only for the CB. The Edsets sounded great until we started to ride. then they got noisy and really crappy sounding. Figured out real quick that you need to turn the IC volume down to "0" to enjoy the music. Am I missing something here or does the Wife need to thump me on the head to signal me to turn the IC volume up so she can tell me to slow down:confused24:
  16. Greetings all. I'm having a reoccurring problem with my intercom and wondering if anyone else can give some insight. The intercom is picking up what sounds like ignition pop through the speakers, because it speeds up and slows down with the engin rpm. It comes and goes usually when you hit the right kind of bump in the road. I can also give the fairing a good tap on the left side and sometimes that will make it go away. Other times nothing makes it go away, very irritating!!!! It doesn't make any difference which audio is on (radio or cb) when it has a mind to do it. Sometimes the only way to get it to stop is to turn both audio and cb off. No sound at all then. It did this before mic mutes and has started again after mic mutes. I've had it into the dealer for it once, they couldn't find the problem, so they replaced the entire intercom system (they said), and it stopped for a long time, but its back now. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue, or has any thoughts on what to check. Thanks to all. Chris
  17. I might have misunderstood or misread some stuff but I was under the impression the radio was suppose to cut off when we use the intercom. If the radio is on the speakers I can understand it why it may not cut off but when listening to tunes in the HeadSet, it is pretty hard to understand my passenger and vice versa. Is there a setting to get the radio to cut off when talking or is it something I have to live with? Thanks
  18. Just wondering where is all the wiring on the RSVTD that is in the upper fairing on the RSV? The radio/player is obvious - so the TD does not have intercom & cruise and what else? Anyone know?
  19. I finally bought a new set of cables for the intercom system from Sierra and I am curious as to how the end of the passenger one is supposed to lay. These wires were original and the holes where the pins would go were rusty. Currently, the old one in the back is held on with a wire tie on the right passenger hand bar. In the package came two holders for the ends. Did the rear one come with a holder when new? If not, did y'all use the holder that came with the kit? If so, where did you stick it? Is yours on the left or right side? I have had this bike since 94 and just now working my way to headsets, geez.
  20. I am sure that you veterans here have heard this question many times, however here it comes again. I just purchased a 2005 RSV and do not have the Intercom cables (the extensions). My question is does any 5 pin work? And what are some reasoniable priced headphones w/mics? Thanks And let me say I really enjoy this site and looking forward to meeting you guys out there. Thanks
  21. Bought an 89 VR this past Easter weekend and fell in love with her on the ride home from Houston... only problem I am having is a persistent ignition noise (increases with RPM) in the headset only in intercom mode. Stereo and CB are clear as a bell... but at highway speeds the intercom sounds like a herd of bumblebees are in my nut cover. I have checked the threads here and haven't found anything addressing ignition noise except from a system-wide perspective. Cleaned and dielectriced all the connections in the headset system... both driver and passenger... no help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  22. So, In redoing My '87 VR. I didn't want to even deal with the stock Radio/CB/Intercom -- outdated, didn't even know if any of it worked. so it's gone. Now, I am thinking we will use Chaterbox for intercom. But would like to be able to hook MP3 player up to the stock speakers. Where would be the best place to start on this? I guess I would need an Amp to do it? D
  23. I installed the mic-mute on the bike and so far i'm not happy with it. We ride with ear plugs in and have the volume on the intercom up high. The mic-mute toggles the intercom but we get motor feedback no matter the ptt position. Anybody else have this problem, noticed it? We can eliminate the noise by turning down the intercom volume....but that defeats the purpose of the mic-mute!!!! Jim
  24. As far as the on-board intercom system on the 2nd Gens, are the connections the same as for the 1st Gens? Already have a helmets with J&M electronics that plug into the older VR...just bought a newer RSV & wanna verify they'll work without any mods on the RSV. I'm assuming they're the same but thought I'd check. Thanks!
  25. Now that I have my RSV for almost 3 weeks and about 150 miles on her, I know nothing about the equipment to be able to use the intercom system. The after-market unit that we used on my Sabre worked OK under 25mph. But really is totally useless unless my wife & I rode a tandem bicycle!
