  1. I had posted yesterday that I was in need of a luggage rack....now I need most of the left side for a 87' Royale. Yep, a young lady knocked me off my 87' Royale while coming home from work this afternoon and took the bike with her, since my highway peg was stuck in the passenger side of her front bumper. The bike was shoved across two lanes and left to die up on the sidewalk. She and her husband ride a bike, so she is very upset for not looking before pulling out of a conveniance store. Now, how will the insurance adjuster treat me? She had Allstate insurance. The officer who responded gave her 3 points and a ticket! But on a good note...I am fine with a small brush burn on the sleeve of my rain gear... Oh Shoot, I quess this means I won't make it to the Skid In...or Thunder in the Valley..or Gettysburg..or.... Regards Dave
  2. Thanks to ALL fellow Venturers for your prayers/thoughts and concerns for my health and suggestions on bike repairs---all-tho after looking bike over and taking pictures it doesn't look promising. Still waiting to get police report so I can give to insurance and also waiting to hear from insurance also.(don't seem to be in hurry to discuss bike). No I wasn't towing my trailer as someone asked me.
  3. Not my scoot... my truck!.. some SOB stole it. Parked it on the street this morning near where we catch the skytrain to downtown for work (as we always do). Got back at the end of the day... hmmmmmmmm... where's the truck?.. call the wife... "where did we park?" I say... yep... that's where I thought it was too... but it ain't there! Call the cops, check with towing co... definately it's been stolen!!! Even had a steering wheel club on it. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! The inconvenience of this and extra costs involved might end up costing us our holiday trip to Los Osos waaaaaa Have an appointment with the insurance co Thursday... depending on what they'll give us for it...worst case scenario might have to sell the scoot just to replace the truck. One rarely comes out of these ahead of the game...especially when dealing with this govn't insurance rip-off specialists.
  4. Insurance, Insurance, Insurance, here's the story. Got my first insurance with Kingsway 2004 approx. $525.00 2005 $625.00 2006 $700.00 2007 $900.00 & some so I got a new agent, Dalton Tiimis from Ancaster at $580.00 also insured through Kingsway. This year they quote $680.00 Riders Plus $659.00 this year So I called the agent that does all the rest of our insurance who said before that they couldn't quote MC and they now do through Economical, but only if you are a long time client $549.00 Nice, it save me $110.00.
  5. For what it's worth, I have recent first hand experience on how good my insurance was. By the way, I pay about $1000 a year for full coverage with $1000 deductible which I always thought was outrageous until I had to use it. So far I have had no out of pocket expenses that have not been covered by my insurance company. My hospital bill for 1 month in Akron Ohio was well over $300,000.00. This was totally covered through my out of province health care insurance which is separate from my bike insurance. The next two months in Canadian hospitals were covered through our provincial health plan. All of my rehab, including house keeping, snow removal, special bath room equipment etc. has been covered on the bike insurance. Leslie's funeral costs ($15K+) were covered through a combination of bike insurance and life insurance. I have not settled on the bike itself but from talks I've had with the adjuster, it sounds like the pay out on the bike will be fare. My point to all this is, make sure you have enough coverage. I had expenses for things I never even thought of, like $10,000 for a life flight. Also make sure your will and power of attorney for financial and medical are up to date. And make sure your executor and/or the person who has your power of attorney know your wishes and where your papers are kept. We all complain about the cost of insurance and we all look for the cheapest rate. All I'm saying is sometimes you get what you pay for. Think about it.
  6. I see posts all the time about shopping for insurance. I know that it varies greatly by location, driving record, many other things. I'm just curious about who pays the very least. Whether it be only liability or whatever. I just paid mine online this morning. I've never carried anything but liability on my RSV since the day I bought it. I pay $99.00 per year through Progressive. Anybody paying less? I'll bet there is.
  7. I've just received my insurance renewal and am shopping for competitive quotes. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've done some checking online and most online quotes match my current renewal within approx. $25.00. I did an online quote with 'Riders Plus Insurance' (Toronto, Ontario) and they are $153.00 cheaper for the same coverage. I would follow up the online quote with a phone call to confirm information and price. Does anyone have coverage/experience/comments on this company? Thanks
  8. Will be shopping for insurance in Ontario in the next few weeks. Anyone know of any dedicated (or otherwise) insurance companies with good rates ?
  9. Sailor

    Sunshine

OK folks, feel free to hate me, particularly those in the northern climes but I just have to do this. Rocket, sure hope you are back home to enjoy this. After months of rain and below normal temperatures, down to freezing a few days, we have sunshine!!!!! Today I am sitting on the sundeck, drink in one hand, book in the other. It is 60F in the shade, I am in T shirt and shorts. It is warm in the sun. I have been watching 6 deer browsing on the grass about 30 feet away. Two bald eagles have been circling the lake. Once in a while they swoop over the deck to check and see if the deer have roused anything, and to keep an eye on our cats. We have the fastest cats in the world here. About 4 years ago they took down a tree with an eagles nest in it in Victoria. The tree was rotten and going to fall on someones house. They found 12 cat collars in it. Them city cats are just too slow. The swans are back and checking out their nesting site. I have ribs marinating in dark rum and spices for the BBQ later. Got jazz and blues on the stereo. But, and isn't there always a catch, I don't have insurance on the bike yet so I can't go for a ride. I know we are due for another month of rain before it is safe to insure the bike. I almost forgot the best part...the boss is at work!!!!! A cohiba and insurance and the day would be perfect
  10. Well yesterday was fun, NOT! Heard what sounded like I hit something then 10 miles later when I stopped for gas went around to check and left front flat as could be. Did something I have never done. Called someone to change it. Figured I have paid for 30 years, might as well let my insurance pay. I felt so guilty I ended up helping. At least it was a full size brand new spare. Was able to have the tire plugged, and my mechanic says it was in a good spot so should last.
  11. Hey All, I'm starting to get down to the short strokes on the insurance settlement with the bike. I need 2 items for the bike to ship it when the offer is made and the deal is done. I'm sending off the wheel and tire for examination, so if anyone has a spare rim from a trike project that I could buy, that would be a godsend. The other is the black plastic cover that goes over the ignition on the front of the tank. If you have an old crappy one that you replaced or whatnot that would be fine, it's just going to scrap. I sold the leather wrapped one to one of our members and I like to be honest when I give the bike to the insurance co. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it, and these items dont need to be in great shape...Thanks
  12. Is it worth the $39.00 a year to join the AMA, do the benefits pay for themselves, they mention discounts at dealers, is the mag any good, is the insurance discounted much?............curious minds want to know....
  13. I am buying a used bike, and I would like to ask a few of you to respond and tell me what you think are the best companies as far as rates and service for motorcycle insurance. I am looking at the following - Progressive, Geico, and my own private homeowners. Are there others you would suggest who are specialists more than others for motorcycle riders? I am in my 60's and have no driving violations in less than 3 years.
  14. why is it that you have to pay your insurance on time or your policy will be cancelled, but if you have an accident (Sept 6 2007), it takes so long (4 months and waiting) to get the cheque for damages to my bike that the other party caused.
  15. I just got a call from someone in the department of motor vehicles in Alaska. One of my insureds from here in Georgia was there and they were going to revoke his drivers license because he didn't have proof that his auto insurance would extend to a rental car. I got them to agree to let me fax a letter to them stating that his insurance would extend to a rental car. What is up with that?
  16. The insurance company is going to total out my ride. It seems that it falls into the 75% bracket. The only problem I have with it is the insurance company will no longer allow me to purchase collision insurance. With that thought in mind it makes me wonder if I should strip my stuff off and let it go. Has anyone ever purchased a bike with a salvage title?? If so, what are the problems that go along with it? The only thing hurt, other than the handle bars, are the plastics, fairings, saddle bag, trunk, ect.. I hate to let a good ride go for only $1,600 more than they will give me if I keep it... One thing, I have no plans on trading up until Yahama comes out with a EFI system. By that time it may qualify for a museum.
  17. Some bozo who couldn't look out for traffic as he backed out of his parking space hit my bike and knocked me over this afternoon. He cracked my trunk, scraped up my muffler and saddle bag guard, gouged my trunk and saddlebag real bad, busted the lower part of my fairing, and took some paint off the upper part of my fairing. All on the left side. I just got out of class with the guy not 10 minutes before it happened. Banged up his girlfriends car real bad too. Luckily nobody got hurt. Though I won't want to be him when his old lady finds out.:rotf:Anybody had any experience with the insurance companies with these bikes? It's an 84VR. Where do I find out what the fair value on it? My guess is that the insurance is gonna call it a total and I won't get anything near what its gonna cost for parts and a paint job. Anybody have any advice?
  18. Is it true that 50% of crotch rocket riders have no insurance, motorcycle operators, or both? Apparently I am dealing with a kid. Won't call me on the phone but he bid and won the auction for my Vmax. He paid the $500 down in 48 hrs but the balance in full date has past. He said he wanted to come up and get it and ride it back but his ride bailed out on him. I told him send me payment in full (were communicating via email) and I will mail you overnite the bill of sale and signed title. Then you can buy your insurance, tags, etc and ride it back. He says he don't want to send payment in full with no bike and I understand that. Says he has 3 days to get tags and insurance. OK but the day we close the deal my tags and insurance comes off and it's yours. You might want to take the vin number buy your insurance then see if you can get a one way permit. He even wanted to know if I had a helmet MAN buy your own helmet that fits your head. I don't even know if he knows how to ride. Anyway even offered to deliver it to Virginia for little more then gasoline and lunch cost. Still waiting I wish he would call me but so far only email.
  19. after i read the post , by brad t, about ed, i got to thinkin' !!!!! so does anyone have a spare "snow mobile ski", that i can strap across my passenger seat, just for "insurance"????? just jt
  20. I just renewed the insurance on my RSV. When I bought it (second-hand) the previous owner said it was a 2003 model. Took him on his word. I've since found out - through this forum - that it's a 2004 model. She's white, apparently that makes it 2004. The insurance company is trying to tell me that it can tell from the VIN that it was manufactured in 2003. This may be so, but does that make it a 2003 or 2004 model. See my avatar. She's definately white. VIN is JYAVP09254A000058 and was sold new in Australia on 04/05/2004. (That's the fourth day of May for you Yanks). So, what year model do you reckon I own? I'd like to straighten out the insurance company.
  21. If you are looking for an insurance horror story, this ain't it. Last Thursday I totaled my '04 Midnight RSV. Late Thursday I called in the claim. They promised to have someone call me back within 2 hours, they did. That person told me that an adujster would get with me the next day, Friday. Late Friday afternoon the adjuster, a really nice guy, came to my home to inspect the bike and prepare an estimate. He indicated at that time that it would probably be a total loss, it was. He called this morning to set up a time to come by and discuss the settlement this evening. I must say at that time I was expecting to have to negotiate a bit. I didn't. I "settled" for $13,039 after my $500 deductible. Seemed very fair to me a 3 year old bike with 40,000+ miles. The check is in the bank and I should have my new '07 black/blue RSV on the 15th. The adjuster was very polite, courteous and dependable. He did what he promised on time. Only 5 days from crash to settlement with a weekend in the middle. So if anyone asks for an insurance recommendation from me, it's Progressive. DT
  22. I am meeting later today with the insurance adjuster to look at my bike. Does anyone have experience with Progressive? What is a clean '04 midnight worth? DT
  23. Although I’m new to this forum, I’m not new to my Venture. In ’87 I bought my ’86 Royal while it was still in a box and paid for complete dealer assembly and warranty. That was almost 20 years ago. Wow, how time flies. Long story short: last Saturday an older lady decided she liked my lane better than her own. End result, insurance company say my bike is totaled. Sad day; very sad day. Other than for several bumps an very slight burses, I’m fine. I’m very sad to see it go – the end of a truly great relationship. OK, here’s my question: Do any of you have experience with: 1. insurance scrap value; 2. parting out the bike and estimates of time and value if most of the bike is good, just lots of twisted metal and busted faring. The insurance co. is working on what they will give me. What they said is that I have two options: 1. they pay me replacement value and they take the bike; or 2. they pay me replacement value minus scrap value and I keep the bike to part out. Looking for experienced points of view. I live in Southern CA. Thanks.
