  1. Well on of my biggest fears of owning an old motorcycle has come true. I have a melting wire connection. I am hoping this is or can be an easy fix. This is the Left side of the bike. As you can see from the picture its is melting the plug and attached wires. from what I have been able to see the lower connection of the plug goes down to some kind of vented box mounted behind the rear foot peg and above the exhaust pipe. The upper connection loops up and then down with a group of wires that shoot into the case going forward of the bike. The wires are only hot and smooking when motor is running. I tested with key on and it was cool, tested with key on and run switch on and it was cool. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is going to be an easy and fix. http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac264/bobandlou3/IMG00085.jpg
  2. I have read as many posts as I can about replacement diaphragms for the 83 Venture Royale... but can't seem to be able to locate who might sell the diaphragms only, without the slide, for an inexpensive fix... Does anybody know anyone who currently sells these diaphragms and how I can get in touch with them? Thanks, Joel:12101:
  3. I bought an 86 Cavalcade with 23000 miles to fix up and sell. Looks to be in excellent shape. Has a gas leak or stuck float. Praying it is an easy fix.
  4. I have the Morgan carbtuner, when I sync the carbs the gauges fluctuate at an idle and smooth out at a higher rpm. I reluctantly threw the restrictor tubes away. Does anyone know of a fix that I can use to restrict the vacuum lines? Or should I be concerned? Tks
  5. Just today I have activated my 9Th. yes thats right #9 as of today; I had the first droid when they came out. had problems till they replaced it 4 times. they then upgraded me to the droid 2 for free. nice of them I know. and today they just gave me my 5 th. Droid 2 had everything from dropped calls, screen with white band wouldn't go away, cant answer till calling party hangs up then you have to look and see who called then call them back, speakers quit working, screen goes black and locks up, phone gets quieter as you talk till you cant hear your party talk, weekly calls to phone co. to try to fix problems. most having a temp fix of pull the battery and then put it back and restart. several fixes of wipe it out and reboot to factory settings. in most cases this was another temp fix if at all; but one they seem to like doing in store today at the store there were three other people there with droids all with similar complaints anyways was wondering if anyone else has had this much trouble with there phones ..... OK I feel better now.
  6. As we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers. I had a problem yesterday, so I called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over. Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong? He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.' I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, 'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.' Eric grinned.... 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before? 'No,' I replied. 'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.' So I wrote down: ID10T I used to like Eric, the little bastard.
  7. My 1st gen was marking its spot in the garage. Did a little checking and the little coolant bypass valve was dribbling like an old man with severe prostrate issues. So I get on VentureRider to find out more. About the bypass valve, not the prostrate. Now is this a site or not. I discover it is a common issue, not serious, and no surprise, Sky Doc has an inexpensive fix for it. With good directions that even I might be able to fix. :shock3:Which is a disadvantage because I won't wind up in the Little Shop by the Creek at Sky Doc's place, with Jean wondering how two grown men can have so much fun. All of that without having to send out an SOS for a question already asked, answered, and a cheap fix available.
  8. I have a few scratches in my front rim that I would like to fix. Other then sanding and polishing is there another way to fix the scratches. Or is sanding and polishing the best? If so whats the best polish to use?
  9. I've decided that I need to make this bike reliable an ddrive it until it burns to the ground. I love my bike and I believe I can make it 100% reliable again. That said, I dont have the time or space to tackle a 2nd gear fix. the yamaha shops locally will do it for $4200.00 plus parts:sick:. I can buy a 86+ for that with low miles! Does anyone know of someone in Michigan that can fix the 2nd gear for a reasonable amount of money and can be trusted?
  10. Help! I'm about ready to punch my monitor......... Every time I download something from www.freedownloads.com it ends up not being free............ "EVEN THOUGH THEY SAY SO!" I've tried and removed the following supposed freeware: Regcure, Pcfix and Tuneup360. Oh yeah, they do their scans but you have to pay for the activation key! This is not as they were advertised in the Freeware section. Anyone know where I can get some FREEWARE to fix windows registry problems? I need a beer!
  11. First, please forgive my PRIMITIVE art. I am still thinking on the fairing broken tab fix thing... Would this type of set up be possible. A strong brace with three holes, one attached to the bottom speaker bolt, the top one attached to the fairing METAL STRIP and then a second brace that a has a wing (T shaped) that fits FLAT against the fairing and held in place with JB Weld (the wing would give more surface area for the glue to hold). Once the glue has cured, this brace would then be attached to the first brace. This setup might provide a LOT of stability for the METAL STRIP and windshield. The braces would have to cut precisely (so as to not pull to much against the fairing), and also would involve some bending. Here is a VERY bad drawing and the 2nd brace does not show the WING I think would be best for securing it to the fairing. I see no reason to have it replaced if it just gonna break again. I would rather fix it for good. Comments, suggestions and SOME LAUGHTER is appreciated. Wally
  12. I started this project for my son. I drug the ski back from knoxville to work on over the winter. Let me tell you, working on this piece of crap is much harder than working on the venture. I'll think about that next time before I volunteer to fix this money pit again!!
  13. Hey ya'll . I just received this email from Bikemp3. Some of you who already have these units on your GoldWings might be interested in this. I'm just passing the word along. I really don't know anything other than what is in this message. News About The V1 MP3 Players Dear BikeMP3 Customer I just wanted to take some time to tell you about our progress with V1 MP3 players for the GL1800 and to make you what we think is an exciting offer. As you will know some users have experienced problems on pre 2006 bikes where they loose control of the change track function. The reasons for this are complicated but above all annoying. Also many users have asked for more functionality from the players. Well, for over a year we have been working with our suppliers to find a remedy to issues and requests and we are happy to tell you that we now have a working solution. What I cannot tell you is that as of today we do not have this solution into a form that we could release to owners of the current players although we are confident that we will soon be able to offer you a solution. However our new factory has made a one time generous offer to all MP3 owners and not just owners of our V1 player but any MP3 player currently being used on a GL1800 regardless of the manufacturer. As long as it is in working condition with all cables and accessories we will upgrade you to our new player for the same low price of $39.99 including shipping. It need not even be integrated just plugged into a GL1800 and working will qualify. After this offer expires the retail for the new player will be $129.99. So tell your friends the offer is open to everyone. So what does this new player offer that makes it worth upgrading to? Well just take a look at the features listed on the right of this page to see the benefits of upgrading, and if the new player does not do what we say it does we will refund your the upgrade fee and return your original player. We are offering 3 upgrade options including one for those of you who want to wait for the fix for our V1 player to be released, however the V1 fix when it comes will just address the lockups it will not offer any of the additional features that the new player offers. We need to organize our records and target our efforts so regardless of your choice we must ask you to visit our website and register your intentions before Friday January 7th 2011 I must emphasize even if you want to wait for the V1 fix we need to know by that date for you to be added to the waiting list this is your final opportunity any requests after this date cannot be accommodated. Current V2 owners that are already on the waiting list will be emailed separately as that list is already closed and we are in contact with effected owners, other V2 users may take advantage of the upgrade program. The upgrade options are $00.00 Keep your old V1 player and wait for the fix $39.99 Send in your old MP3 player and receive the new 2011 V3 $64.99 Keep your old player and receive the new 2011 V3 Register on our homepage WWW.BikeMP3.COM and click the MP3 upgrade product at the bottom of the page All orders must be prepaid with a projected shipping date mid to late January 2011 Please take time to register your intentions as soon as possible Thanks For Your Continued Custom And May I Wish You A Happy And Prosperous New Year Pete Elvin BikeMP3 http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif New Player Features http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif Fix Lockups On Pre 2006 Pause/Stop Function Auto Folder Change Second Aux Port Numeric Index Alphabetic Index Small Form Factor Auto XM Radio Support (No Switch) SD/USB Support Screw In Connections http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif New Player Features http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif Fix Lockups On Pre 2006 Pause/Stop Function Auto Folder Change Second Aux Port Numeric Index Alphabetic Index Small Form Factor Auto XM Radio Support (No Switch) SD/USB Support Screw In Connections http://app.expressemailmarketing.com/images/spacer.gif
  14. June 11 weekend. Karen and I would like to host the WI MD this year at our house in Fox Lake. We have plenty of room for camping, 2 car garage with a bar, good neighbors (some may even stop by), and motels available in Beaver Dam and Waupun. The VR calendar is filling up fast, so I want to get the ball rolling. Happening on June 11, and the invitation would be good for Friday afternoon through Sunday. We can fix everything that broke on the way back from Freebird's MD the week before. Is this OK with everyone, and is anyone interested? Later, Scooter Bob and Karen Here's a link to the event in the calendar.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=240&day=2011-6-11&c=1
  15. My 2001 speedometer was out by about 10 kilometers per hour. Now that I have a 2004 RSV I checked it with my GPS and it is also out by 10 per cent as well. It is 10 percent below what is indicated on the gauge. Has Yamaha not addressed this or is there a fix for this other than just accepting it and adjusting accordingly? My 1800 Wing was always dead on with the GPS. Thanks for any comments or advice. Chris
  16. Was wondering if any one has tried the http://www.harrietcarter.com/resources/harrietCarter/images/products/processed/3584.detail.a.jpg Simoniz® Fix It!™ (C3584) Fix it! pen removes car scratches like magic! Fast-action scratch repair filler and sealer pen from Simoniz gives professional results without the hefty cost. After washing, apply to scratch or scuff, gently buff, and then wipe away—no sanding tools or extra “elbow grease” needed! Contains UV hardeners that fill, level and cure on contact. No need for matching touch up paint - works on any vehicle, in any color; goes on clear and dries clear. Non-toxic, water-resistant. Or is it one of those too good to be true.
  17. I split the fairing yesterday for the first time to install Mic Mutes. When I went to remove the windshield I found three of the six tabs on the outer fairing were broken. Does anyone have a fix for that?
  18. Got an appointment for 8:00 am Monday morning at the Winnebago factory in Forest City Iowa. We've been having some trouble with one of the slide outs and they need to remove it to make the fix. I figured it would be much smarter to let the guys who built it, fix it, rather than the dealer. So we're off bright and early tomorrow morning. Planning to head to Branson Mo. afterwards for a few days.
  19. Can anyone tell me why my CB only works before noon. It usually works fine when we 1st take off then later in the day I can be heard but I can't hear anything but a dead key. If anyone has had this problem please tell me what to do to fix this problem.
  20. I am looking at a 1st Gen Venture Royale, 1990 model, but it is out of state and I have been communicating with the owner. Everything was looking good until he mentioned the air compressor was disconnected (or not working) and some small cracks in the fairing, but offered to take some pictures of it. Well, the cracks don't look small to me and they don't look like an easy fix. I talked with a M/C mechanic who does alot of VR work and he felt, without seeing the pictures, that being plastic versus fiberglass, the only way to really fix it and look good, would be to find replacement parts. The mechanic I talked with had seen the bike and rebuilt the carbs and other items, but the owner didn't want to pay for the other items to be fixed. So, the mechanic doesn't know the cause of the compressor problem, and therefore can't estimate the repair. I am attaching the pictures, I hope. Can anyone tell me what would need to be done to fix the fairing or compressor? If nothing reasonable is available, I may have to walk away from this one. Thanks for any input!
  21. The full-grown doe ran in front of my new, used '92 Subaru Justy this morning at 5AM on my way to work. Now I'm car-less & bike-less! I am SO tired of all of these problems that keep coming up!! This Thursday I'm having wrist surgery resulting from my bike accident of 3 months ago, so I won't be able to do anything to try to fix the Justy. I'm just plain hosed now - no car, no bike, no money, and no way to get to work without paying a LOT more for gas and making it so my wife can't get to work & be mom-taxi driver. Doug
  22. I have discovered that my speedometer is off. Someone told me that by changing the rear tire size this will help fix this. Does anyone know if this is true or even possible?
  23. MY 2009 RSV had a fuel smell even when gas was shut off for hours after it was shutdown. Should it take the dealer over two weeks to get parts to fix this? he said 3 to 5 days for a carb gasket?
  24. Went to the Gastown motorcycle show 'n Shine yesterday. Loads of amazing bikes there and so many people came out as the weather was hot. Sorry, no pics...forgot the camera at home. ENNYHOO ... Honda Canada was doing demo rides so Nina & I got to take a spin on a Wing. Now this was the second time I rode a newer Wing but the first time for Nina to ride. Most of the demo was in heavy city traffic but did get to see how it handled on the highway and in corners as well...even a tight 90 degree one at 3 times the posted limit (which was 20 km/h) and I think I dragged something on that one! Well, for those who have one, you know what I'm talkin about here. This bike is nothing short of a breeze to drive. It takes the corners effortlessly. It weaves thru heavy traffic on the freeway without even thinking about it. I looked where I wanted to go and it was if the scoot read my mind because in a flash, I was there. And the POWER!!! It's awesome! Slow speed balance is far superior to our RSMV ... even just coming to a stop ... I could practically come to a full stop and not even put my foot down... Oh yeah, and REVERSE sure was nice getting it back into the parking spot! The downside ... and I only have two. Nina found the seat too "recliner style" ... if that makes any sense. She prefers to sit up straighter but the seat seemed to force her to slouch. ... no biggie... we can fix that. In opposite, I found the seat caused me to sit up straighter ... but that is ok except the handlegrips were lower than I like ... again, no biggie... we can fix that. So, in as much as WE like our RSMV .... sometime before next summer it will most likely be replaced with a WING. See ya at that other "dark side".
  25. My Zumo 660 (I believe) just decided to stop providing verbal directions. I have taken it out and placed it in the auto cradle and it still won't talk. Everything else seems to work OK. Anyone had an issue like this? If so, how did you fix it?
