One of my new turn signal dash indicator lamps I put in this winter burned out already. The original that was 20+ years old and was blackened and still worked worked forever, but a new one died in 30 miles. That's my luck. so today, I decided that I needed to replace the dash turn indicator as well as upgrade it, in bright sun I can barely see they are blinking and I need an indicator that reminds me that I'm being an old geezer riding with a signal blinking. I went to autozone and found the 194 lamps in a yellow led form. they have 4 super-bright LED's on each and they are $10.99 for 2 of them. They fit just fine and only work one way (flip it over if it does not blink.) The results were incredible. they are blindingly bright with high noon sun shining directly on them. no way to miss my blinkers are on. At night it will light me up as well as act as a side indicator to cars sitting next ot me. I'll try to post pics later of them working and the empty package. I forgot to take photos as I was doing the change. -

There's only two things I want for the 2010 model. 1) A good in dash CD player. 2) no payment no interest for 3 years. What da think? Will this happen?

tonight after i turned onto my street I noticed that my directional didnt stop blinking after 100 yards or so liek normal so i took another trip around the block and that when i noticed why as my speedo wasnt working I parked in the garage and checked the cable when i took it off the wheel fitting I saw that the end was a twisted mess. I tried to turn it by hand and it was not spinning at all. so i tore into the dash and removed the cable off the speedo and the cable snins freely. stuck it back on and it dosnt turn at all connected to the speedometer? could somthning have come loose in the guage or is it probly shot? can the speedometer be changed out of the dash pod or is a new pod required? thanks for any help. oh ya would a dealor still be able to get one or is it a E Bay only deal now? I was hopeing to go to Thunder by the bay in a couple weeks and it would bve nice to know how fast im going.:headache: ps I read in another thread about a bearing in the speedometer, could this freeze up and be repaired? just looking for where to start looking when i tear into the guage/

hope someone can help me woith this one because it sure has me puzzled. My 84 venture has recently started making a buzzing or very loud humming noise that seems to be coming from the dash area behind the tach and spedometer. the noise starts usally when the bike gets just above 40mph and stops when you slow the bike to near a stop. I can place my hand on the dash when it starts and can feel the vibration from the buzzing it is very frustrating and it does it most of the time but not all the time. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY

This subject came up in another thread and I didn't want to hi-jack it. But for those of us that own '83's and ride at night anytime, for me anyway, the lights are really bright and almost blinding. I guess that's why the '84's came out with a dimmer knob... I wonder if giving them the red treatment might help tone things down a bit?? Anyone ever changed theirs out. Red is the only color that doesn't ruin your night vision. And red might just make the dash look kinda 'cool'..... The only drawback I can see would be that anything colored red on the dials will disappear at night. Gonna have to go out and check the guages.

dose any one have detailed instruction on how to put the front end back together the front forks are there the person i bought the bike from tooke the faring off , the dash and the only thing left are the front forks and the handle bars the rest came in a box-------------------help me oby one----

This may be coverd already in another thread but I have not seen it yet. My low water level light is on on my dash. I put a maintenence free Yuasa Battery in my bike when I got it. It has no place for the sensor ( whitch is missing anyway) There is just a wire sticking up in front of the battery in the cross harness.I figure this used to be it. The old battery had a hole for the sensor in the middle cell of the battery so I assume that it reads 6vdc if it reads anything at all. My wrenches in my toolbox are getting pretty cold from non use over the last five years and me ole brain. My brian needs a jump start. My question is how to kill the light on the dash? Thanks....Dave

Hi, I have been attempting to repair my dash panels. I have lots of cracks and breaks in them and a missing RHS dash air vent. The LHS vent wants to jump ship too but I just caught it in time and put it in my pocket while riding at speed on the highway. This got me wondering just what Yamaha was thinking when they put these air vents into the dash design? Next to no air comes out and what ever does, is easily swamped by ambient airflow eddying around the windshield & fairing etc. Yet if you are missing a vent it looks like CR4P! The hole for the vents leaves the dash panel very vulnerable to breakage as the thickness of the plastic at the in board corners of the vent hole is VERY thin and flimsy. I have concluded that they aren't worth the bother and am thinking of blocking both of mine off in an aestheticly acceptable manner. Have I missed something ? Does anyone see any real benefit from these vents? Thanks, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont

I was wondering if anyone has a list of the bulbs used in the indicators and illumination for the dash on the 83 venture. I am looking at opening it up to replace a couple of dead dash lights and might as well replace them all while i am in there.

Greetings, while on vacation this past week, I discovered that the dash lights on my '05 RSV don't work. I'm speaking of the back-light that illuminates the speedometer. When dark, I cant see the speed or the gas gauge. Makes for some nerve racking riding. The last night ride prior was about a month ago, and it worked then. The only thing that has been done is the bike has been washed twice since then. Any ideas as to why it quit working? Are there regular bulbs or some type of LED lights there? Is this something that maybe I can fix, or do you recommend the dealer? Would this be a warranty item? Thanks in advance for any help.

As my dad says, "Anything is easy if you know what you are doing" Well I don't and the bike won't start. Here is the symptoms. The battery is okay. The lights and dash look good when the key is turned on. Lights and dash go off as they should when I hit the starter button but nothing else happens. Bike does not turn over or even try. I've got several guesses but I've already shown my ignorance. What should I look for? Iowa Guy

My speedo stopped working the other day after going through a bumpy construction area. We took the cable out from the bottom and inspected the cable itself and it looks fine. I have two questions: 1) anybody have a speedo for sale? 2) there is a dash for sale on E-Bay for the earlier 1st gen....will that fit a later vintage 1stgen ('87) as well? Thanks

Hi guys. The RH dash panel - CB mount on my 87 VR is kinda trashed. Do any of you have one in decent condition you'd like to sell? I'm talking about the panel that screw in with 6 allen-head screws and directly holds the CB and the CLASS swing-up assembly. I might also be interested in the larger dash panel on the RH side, the one that the above panel mounts to and which holds the speaker. Thanks, Jeremy -
today on the way to work the bike delveloped a hesitation in 4th and 5th gear. shortly after that I noticed the lights flickering. after turning off highbeams, cruise, radio, and not using turn signals the hestation stopped but the dash lights(idiot lights) are still dim and the headlight/running lights are still flickering. anybody got clues? 62 miles is a long way to push the critter home.

ok i need help, gonna change the lamp to a brighter one. how is the best and easy way? do i have to go into the dash? help me out, dont want to go about it wrong. Thanks Brian

I just finished putting my 89 Venture back together after replacing plug wires, battery cables, fixing E4 error in class, refreshed desicant, and replaced back brakes and pistons seals; oh and back behind headlight to see how to replace bulb. I have had a lot of the bike apart, and every connector that I could reach I took apart, cleaned and put some dielectric grease in. However, upon starting up, I thought I noticed a little lag till the headlight/dash lights came on. After running the bike for about 10 min they suddenly went out. I have signal lights, clock etc but no headlight (low or high), no headlight indicator, and no dash lights. So my question is, what/where is the likely culprit connector? I must not have put one back together securely? How about behind the headlight? Oh well, project for tomorrow I guess.

Back on 3/4 I picked up a 1srtGen dash panel from a guy on Ebay. VTCustoms/Anthony Alfieri . The dash was discribed as in 'good condition with 14K on the Odo. Here's a copy of an email I sent to the seller after it arrived. The email bounced, and it's the same address that shows in the paypal details for the transaction. Tony, Just wanted to let you know the dash panal arrived OK, however it wasn't anywhere near your discription of 'good condition' that one would have suspected from a bike with only 14K miles on the ODO. One of the mounting posts on back of the shell was broken off and missing and should have been very easily noticed when you removed it from the bike. Probably damaged in the accident. Lots of rust on the electrical connections. Someone was also inside the housing, as a large piece of speedo back light plastic was broken off, and there's no way that broken piece could have gotten out. There was also electricians tape and caulk/sealer in a couple of places on the inside. Bottom line is the dash was not in any condition to be of use as a complete unit. So.... disappointed? Yes, but I'll go ahead and keep the dash and chalk it up to experience. I've owned and worked on over 5 Ventures, and will just rendeer the dash down into parts for the shelf, and toss the broken and rusted stuff. I suggest in the future you be a bit more up front with your discriptions and with the pictures you take. So, I'd suggest that if any member of this board is considering bidding on an auction by VTCustoms to be very carefull. I'm going to resend this email via Ebay and see if it goes through. I've bought a lot of stuff off Ebay and this is the first time I haven't received what I expected...... Just an addition. I fianlly did get a response from the seller via my Ebay message board with his apologies and an offer to return for a refund, but by then I had already taken it apart and bagged it. His email address is still not functioning.

I was reading a article abouth the Yamaha midnight Venture...and when I checked by the Features...I noticed they said that it had a Small, dash-mounted storage compartment, that can hold up to 3 cassettes. Can someone tell me, were the dash mounted storage compartment is located on my Midnight Venture. Help! Yesterday morning on my way to work about an hour before sunrise... doing hand to hand combat with the cagers on the way to work... and my headlight and dash lights go out at the same time!! At least I still had my driving lights, but it made me nervous to say the least... Anyone have any ideas what may have caused it?? I guessed that maybe the starter swith might be going bad... so I changed it out last nite... no change! I'm stumped.
