  1. I searched the site for cruise issues, but didn't find something quite like this. I rode my '06 RSTD for hundreds of miles in the rain recently. Once, it simply disengaged the cruise on it's own. No bumps, or anything. It would not re-engage. I turned it off and on several times, but nothing. I figured the rain had caused a short. However, an hour later I tried it and the cruise worked as normal. Yesterday, I rode in perfect hot sunshine and it happened again. I was on the interstate, no vehicles around, right hand in my lap, feet on the highway pegs. Other posts suggested that the brake or something was brushed, but I was definitely far away from the controls (excepting the clutch). I was on a great road and the cruise simply disengaged. As before, the ON light remained illuminated as if it was working properly. With my previous experience, I turned it off, waited 15 minutes and tried again. It did work. Then, a bit later, it disengaged again, this time on a curve. Another turn off and wait, then it worked again with no further problems. I saw in one or two first gen posts that the cruise is attached somehow to the vacuum system. I don't know if this is the case on second gen bikes, but I do know that a cracked hose and/or cap is a suspect in my recent backfiring issue. Could this be related? Other ideas? Dave
  2. Can you believe it during dinner at Marcarls Venture in, Wizard (Wayne) and 1 canuck (Brenda and Brian) and I got into a short talk about My wife never going out on the Bike with me. Well her ears must have been burning because today she suggested going for a ride on the bike and we were out for great 4 hr cruise and she loved it. She is now looking forward to going again and already rhyming of places she would like to go. It only took me 32 years to get her there but patiance has prevailed.:dancefool:
  3. I know this is probably addressed here somewhere, But I'm not finding it. New (to me) '86 Venture Royale - cruise turns on and goes through light diagnostic, hit set and the set light comes on, but won't hold speed AT ALL. Hit either brake or clutch and resume light comes on. Hit resume and nothing. Is it a vacuum leak? Vacuum pump? Pump wiring? Where should I start? Thanks
  4. On a recent trip, I was cruising along on my 88VR at around 120km/hr (about 75mph) under cruise control when suddenly, my stop/run button popped from run to stop. I thought I had pressed the button but it happened several more times after I reengaed the crusie control. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what caused this?
  5. OK folks...a new bike and a new set of problems. I have 2005 RSV and when I turn on 'Cruise' control switch all lights go on at first, then 'set' and 'rev' go out like it is supposed to. When I try to set the speed then both the 'set' and 'rev' come on and blink 5 times together. About 30 sec later, they repeat and this will continue all day. Pushing 'set' or 'rev' or 'cancel' does nothing. I have checked main fuses under left cover below seat, clutch switch, and both brake switches. I have taken apart the handle bar cruise switches and sprayed with contact cleaner, as well as WD-40 so that switch rocks correctly. Any ideas before I start to tear this thing apart? PO says it worked fine last time used. I intend to take outer fairing off, as well as both lowers, and check/clean all connections and use dielectric grease, and check vacuumn lines, and also more fuses under right lower cowling (is this correct?) Any and all ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Does anyone know a way to increase the maximum speed setting for the cruise? While riding out west, there were some roads that had a speed limit of 80 (Utah) and many other states with a limit of 75. My cruise will allow a maximum speed of 80. My wrist is still sore from holding the throttle at 85 to 90 MPH. RR
  7. I have an 86 Venture and am having some cruise control problems. As long as I set it below 60 mph it works fine but when I go over 70 it will gradually gain speed and all at once let off the accelerator until it returns to the original setting then reingauge. Has anyone had this problem before? I have a cousin that has the same problem with his which is a 90 model I think. Thank you,
  8. Ok Gang here is the scoop.. As most of you know I had my Bike converted to a trike a few weeks ago. ALSO had a now triple tree installed for a 6 deg Rake. (GLAD I DID THAT) Anyhow... I first got it back.. and was riding around town to get used to her then I put Cruse on and it worked for about a mile or so... (kicks Off) Now more time passes I have been riding longer and farther now. Been a Gas BTW... Now when I activated the cruise control while riding. the blue light goes on and it is waiting. I HIT SET and it would go into it HOLD.. As of couple days it will only last a 10th of a mile or so.. Today.. Get all ready to test it again.. blue light is ready.. hit SET and Nothing. The RES/SET lights just keep trying over and over again.. until it will shut down itself. I am thinking it had something to do with the Rake Kit Added. I have an email sent off to the owner. I am sure he will be good for it.. nice folks. But I just didn't want to deal with bring it there and taking the day off and waiting all day.. thought maybe if one of you geniuses might think it could be something so simple . I talk the installer and they say they didn't remove anything. yeah whatever. and he did check the Cruise. It worked FINE until I got it back.. This is there first install on this Kit all went well and I am very pleased with there work , but I do not have Cruise anymore. HELP???? (bike only has 10,700 miles on it.) I also have checked both lower fairings all looks good there. I also have checked the speedo. Also have checked all the switches as for as how they look going in and out etc. have not checked behind the fairing yet. Gatta have somthing to do with the rakeing I bet. (ANY IDEA"S) Thanks for reading, Jeff
  9. The cruise control on my bike works fine, but my daily commute has many curves, hills, and places that i prefer to handle the engine power myself. As such I still would like to lock the throttle occaisionally while I relax my hand. Anyone have a plastic thumb locker on their 2nd gen? I don't even know if it will fit.
  10. Hi everyone, I also just got around to posting. Happened to come across the site by doing a search for a windshield (made a deal with Marcy btw). So I've already saved the $12.00 membership fee. Riding a 2001 RSV bought used in 03 with 5800 miles on it, paid $7200. Deal of the century, Imho. Go by the name of Cruise57 because, you guessed it I love to CRUISE, but not limited to M/C's, Wife and I love cruise ships also. Looking forward to long friendships and tons of chatter from eveeryone here. Bike pics is from our annual Ride-Across-Maryland, Breast Cancer charity ride, normally 1200 bikes. Coming up end of May.....can't wait. My wife is a 3 year survivor now WooHoo. Donations are accepted through Rideacrossmaryland.org / sponsor a rider / David Shaw (I also posted in New Member area, wasn't sure where to post)
  11. Wow , what a great ride today on my new trike. My First ride my Cruise Control was kinda acting kinda funny. ride for a while then it would just go off I could re-set it.. ride for a while and it would go off. Now , today I turn everything on and I hit SET and the lights just keep blinking then go off. then come back on as if it were still trying to set itself again.. (never did lock in place) Now after saying that .. the front of the bike had the 6 deg rake kit added to the bike at my dealers. Worked fine before it went into surgery. so what do you folks think they might of messed up or did not put back on right , before I go and dig into this after my NAP ! this afternoon! Dealer is 70 miles away , I would have to take time off work and I really want to just fix there mistake myself if I can. I sure will let them know what you guys came up with for the fix though! Thanks for any in-put gang! Jeff
  12. I was wondering If anyone knows how to get the electronic cruise on a 86 venture to stop kicking off when ever I hit a bump? It seems like the clutch lever has a little play and if not held all the way out while riding it kicks it off???
  13. I just bought a very slightly used set of the Corbin seats that Yamaha markets for my 2006 RSTD. They are called the "Comfort Cruise Solo Seat" and "Custom Cruise Tour Pillion" Does anyone know of a drivers backrest that will work with these? Or any rain covers? Any help is appreciated. Here's a link to the seats that I am talking about, I have the plainer ones with out studs: http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/catalogs/products/26/801/2247/1/0/0/1/4/90/68/329/seats-backrests.aspx Thanks Bob LeDuc
  14. I have an '89 Venture. If I set the cruise at about 100KPH, it will eventually settle in about 107KPH. However, after losing a bit going uphill, on the downside it really speeds up. So much so that I have taken to hand cranking the throttle back so as to keep the speed down. If I don't it seems to hold that high speed quite awhile, and eventually I would have to reset the cruise again. Also, there have been a couple of times where it is like the cruise doesn't know where it is, and senses it is REALLY below speed. This results in the throttle opening up almost wide open. Not sure if it would correct itself as I always cancel the cruise, and then reset. So, any ideas what or where to start? Is it a sensor, or the whole cruise control module? Replacement? Thanks for looking guys.
  15. Ok, I have a small problem and I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this. I added new grips to my bike about a month ago. Now when I try to set my CControl the switch will not let me use it to SET the speed. I can use the top part that is for Resume and the bottom cancel works but when I push on the part that should be for "set" speed it wont go in at all. I took the switch housing back apart thinking I had a screw too tight or something but even off the switch still would not let me push in on the bottom part that "sets" your cruise. Any ideas? Am I gonna have to get a new switch?
  16. I have the a 1st generation Venture standard (1983), and was wondering if anyone has installed one of the audiovox cruise control systems on these bikes. Thanks
  17. Hello guys, great to be here, (first post). I ran a search ... but unconclusive. I use my uncle's 05 RSTD ... you know ... ... to keep motorcycle running for him. I used the cruise control, then after a few moments, pressed cancel. A few minutes later, I wanted to use the cruise control again, but, could not, ... the cancel button stayed pressed in. I was unable to get it to come back up. (Cruise control light goes "On" on dash). I do not have the Repair Manual (which I definitely want to get) to reference. H E L P ... any suggestions would be grately appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  18. Hi from France ! I want to put a cruise control on my old 1200 venture, is it easy ? Somebody can give me some plans ? Thanks for all ! Bikers Friendships ! barry-only-n7
  19. My wife, son and I, as well as my Brother in law and his wife and daughter are strongly considering going on a Disney Cruise in October or November. Many of you know my son has a severe Heart Defect, so while I can't really afford it I'm doing it anyway. We don't like to fly so we will probably drive. Here are my questions: 1) Anyone ever rent and RV? Would like to rent it to get down to Florida and then rent one again to get back. 2) Any other ideas so we could all go down together? 3) Anyone been on a Disney Cruise? If so, Tell me your thoughts please. Thanks
  20. Help, i am trying to identify a connector located on left lower fairing, small two wire white connector, red & black wires. I believe it should eithe be a reserve lighting device or smooth condensor, i do have the two relays & cruise control servo, but where does the mystry connector go, pleses help. Goin crazy,
  21. Before I start, I have done a bit of seaching this site looking for the problem I am experiencing with my cruise control but have not been successful. Not that I use it much, I am a little anal about things and if it is there, I want it to work as designed. Anyway, my cruise has always functioned until this weekend. My cruise would set and all seemed fine except this time, and several attempts afterwards. It would set but the speed would very slowly decel and after about 7 or so mph, the cruise would simply disconnect; not turn off, just cancel. I am not very spun up on this system and thought I'd ask around first if anyone has experienced this same problem and what they may have done to fix theirs. If anyone has any advise, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all,
  22. During the time my 02 Midnight was under warranty it would lose the cruise whenever I hit a hard bump. It would have to be turned off then back on and then be reset to speed. Now that it is out of warranty it hardly takes any bump at all without going out. I've looked through all 57 pages of post and did not see anyone mention this paticular problem with their cruise. Has it happened? What should I look ford? It is not a brake or clutch relay. If it was I could just reset the speed. It goes off and the dash lights begin blinking.
  23. :banana:I'm going to be a father-in-law! My oldest son, Matt, and his girlfriend Valerie got engaged last week. He popped the question last week while they were on a Caribbean cruise. I was surprised but not totally. No date set yet.
  24. Where the heck are the vacuum pump, actuator, and the solenoid valve for the cruise control located?? My cruise doesn't work, and I've got a whistle somewhere under the fairing! Aside from driving me crazy, I really would like the cruise to work!! I'm guessing the whistle is coming from one of the vacuum lines because my engine runs great, pulls hard, and doesn't miss or sputter. I'm getting 40mpg, and I ride kinda fast to and from work (70 - 80mph), 40 miles round trip everyday. The cruise has worked on and off since I bought the bike three years ago. One of the problems was a worn out clutch lever, then a bad switch on the clutch side. When I do the ops check that the service manual offers, everything checks out good. I just need to check the vacuum lines, but I have to find them first!!!
  25. I have a 2007 RSTD with 900 miles. This weekend I changed out the handlebars to Flanders and replaced both cables with Barnett Braided stainless steel with the two inch added. Also replaced both front brakes and clutch with braided lines. The most difficult part was tearing into the area where the throttle cables and cruise come together. When I took it apart of course everything popped out at once. So putting it together was a guess. My problem is I got everything put back together and took it out for a trial run. The first time I went out the cruise control light came on and the set light came on but the throttle was like it was stuck but would not keep the speed and then the set light went out. Went back home and tore into it again and pulled the cable around the pulley the other direction and this time the set light didn't even come on. I tore into it two more times turning the the pulley both ways again and still the same things. I know that I still have some air in the clutch line, but ran out of fluid. Was wondering if anybody has any idea what I have done. And yes I did put the spring back in each time. Sorry for being so long, but figured I would try to cover everything. Thanks in advance. Kevin
