  1. Well that was fun.. Running down our local curvey road late at night and having your head light low beam go out on ya.. oops.. All I could find in any documentation about replacing the bulb on this 2006 Midnight is "replace bulb with..." Thanks, I knew that (derrrr) but do I have to remove the fairing or is this simply down by taking the chrome ring from the front of the fairing to access the light bucket? Right now I'm riding with High Bean with the bucket aimed low but need to get this fixed soon. Thanks in advance..
  2. I replaced my headlight with the H4. Last night I went out for a ride to check it. I got better visibility when it was in low beam than when it was in high beam. I checked and both elements are lighting up on high beam so I know the bulb is okay. I adjusted the headlight both up and down and still get the same results. Is it possible to put the H4 bulb in so that it would be 180 degrees out (or upside down so to speak)? When I look at the bulb on high beam it seems that the high beam filament is below the low beam element.
  3. I'm going to up grade the stock headlight bulb with a new Silverstar bulb. My question is when I reach the bulb in the back of the headlight, does it just pull out or do you have to give it a twist? Does it help to wear plastic gloves when handling the bulb? Thanks, BigD
  4. My high beam does not seem give me any more light then my low. I am running driving lights as well. Is there an upgrade bulb or front head light I can go to. Thanks for the input
  5. 91 Venture Royale. My clutch switch broke. The rubber or plastic housing broke right where it goes into the clutch lever assembly. I ordered a new one. My questions are; Where does the other end of the switch wire terminate? The guy at the shop said it was probably behind the headlight. Anybody know for sure? If I'm into the headlight area, should I replace my 17-year-old bulb? Is there a brighter-than-stock replacement bulb that will work and won't overload my system? Thanks
  6. My low beam went out on me last night, but the high beam still worked. Had two things in my favor, 1) I was only 15 minutes or so from home and 2) have the driving lights, so I had a low beam for oncoming traffic. Looked up in the manual for some info on changing the bulb and it's an easy procedure, as long as the fairing isn't in the way. I don't have real big hands but it was a challenge to get at it from behind. Anyways got the bulb out. Came out here to see if there were any little secrets to the install, seems like everything I found online, was what I was experiencing first hand (no pun intended). I have an '01 RSV, so I'm going to assume that all the 2nd gens are the same. The adjusting knob for the the headlight slides off easily, you'll pick up some extra room to slide your hand in, install the new bulb and hook everything back up. Then just push the adjusting knob back on, it's just like a knob on a stove, has a flat side so just make sure you put it back on correctly.
  7. I think I know the answer to this before I ask but here goes. My headlight on on my 2005 RSV when placed in lo beam position doesn't come on, however high beam works fine. I am sure that the bulb has both stages in it. If this is correct how do I remove the headlamp assy. and replace the bulb? Thanks
  8. Do any of you have any experience with the HID lighting systems? Even though I ugraded my headlight on my 83 to an 86 up version, which was a great improvement and have a PIAA bulb, which also helped, I still want more. I am now seeing the HID headlight being offered at a more reasonable price. This appears to be more than just replacing the bulb, but I am not real familiar with the HID system. Anybody got any feedback on this? I know this system has been around on autos for a few years. Also, do any of you know if this system will work with our Computer Monitoring System that our headlight power runs thru. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EFX-H4-MOTORCYCLE-HID-KIT-YAMAHA-86-93-VENTURE-ROYAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ012QQitemZ220234877551QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Randy

  10. Hello All, I recently bought a 1988 VR and I love it!! My problem is the headlight warning light is on with the lcd of course showing the headlight. I go to bright and the light goes to bright (new bulb) the warning goes away for a couple of seconds, then back on again. It's not a big deal as the headlight works perfect just annoying to be riding with the warning on all the time. When I changed the bulb all wiring looks fine. Where does the monitor get it's info from? Thanks in advance, Kim
  11. Has anyone changed out or know someone who have changed their rear running/brake light bulb to the brighter so-called halogen bulb? I know they're not really halogen, but they are brighter and slightly hotter. If anyone has, have you seen a degradation of your tail lens? Thanks in advance for your responses!
  12. I just bought my 02 RSV this past December. I am trying to remove the headlamp visor that was installed by the previous owner. Will I have to split the fairing to get to it? My second question is regarding the passing lamps. I have been reviewing this site for the best alternative in making the lights brighter. When I opened the chrome pieces to remove the visors from the passing lamps, the whole bulb/light came out-attached by two wires that are screwed to the back of the passing lamp housing. I don't know whether these passing lamps are OEM or aftermarket. It looks as if I can't replace just the bulb without replacing the whole unit that fits inside of the passing lamp housing. Is there any one that knows a site that sells the whole unit for brighter lighting. I don't think just a H3 bulb will work. Thanks for listening! Cubby
  13. I just had a freind of mine hit a deer and crash his bike. Thankfully he is ok, but this sure got me to thinking. I have driving lights mounted on my bike, but was also thinking of maybe going to a PIAA head lamp bulb for my bike. Has anyone done this before, if so what kind of Bulb did you use? I have never had to replace mine, Is it an H3 or H4 bulb? Iwas thinking of going with the higher out put light, can the venture headlight assembly take the heat?
  14. Looked in the owners and service manual and couldn't find an exact number for the headlight bulb on the 89. Anybody know what bulb to buy?
  15. Do any of you guys have any experience with different LED drop-in bulb replacements for 1157's? I've read that many of them are less bright than the old incandescents. Any opinions on good ones out there for an 87 VR? Thanks, Jeremy
  16. I've had it. This is a plea for the name, place to buy,who makes it,LIGHT BULB for a drop light. One that lasts longer than PFZZT! The person who named it the Drop Light couldn't have named it any better. I have one of those florescent drop lights it's about indestructible but they just are not as bright.
  17. I want to replace my Turn/Tail/brake lights with LED lights and keep the Red/Amber covers. I ran across these and was wondering if any of you use them. 1157-x12 LED bulb 12-LED 12VDC replacement bulb 15mm Dual Intensity Bayonet Base Available with 12 Narrow or Wide Angle LEDs in White Also if the 1157-x12 LED bulb is what I need or the 1157-x24 LED bulb. Do I get the Narrow or Wide Angle?? I know I also need the 1156-x12 LED bulb or 24. Thanks for the insight and I am sure I'm not alone in wondering about this so it will help us all.................................................Ron P.S. Probably should of put this in the 2nd Gen Tech section. Move it please
  18. Im going to order new passing light bulbs since im going to rewire the passing lights soon. I was also thinking about going to a led bulb. Since I am not disassembling it right now, I need to know what bulb size (type) is in there now so I can have it on hand. Thanks........
  19. I rode to work today my first ride in the dark on the new RSV. the stock light is no where near as bright as i like. what have other members done to correct this issue. what replacment bulb are you using? What light bar are you running? thanks Ken
  20. Would like to know if anybody has changed out their 1157 bulbs over to led 1157 ? Reason I'm asking is I changed out my two brake light bulbs over to Led which put out a lot more light and less draw on battery but in turn it sets off the light indicator on the dash stating I have a bad bulb. So has any body came across a Led bulb that does not set off the indicator light? I already changed my trailer over to led so now I would like to do the same for the bike. buddy

GOT THIS BULB ON E-BAY THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE.
  22. The Yamaha passing lamps were already installed on the 05 venture I purchased. I have some questions still after reading previous posts. 1. The lamps have a toggle switch to kill them completely if desired but are on when the high beam light is on and off when low beam is on. My mechanic just told me that this was illegal in VA. Do you run the passing lamps at the same time as the high beam? or Should I rewire them? 2. One of bulbs is burnt out, what is the best replacement bulb? Is there one brighter than stock and where is the best place to get them? Also, is there a brighter alternative to the headlight bulb while I'm at it? 3. Where can I find a spacer for the passing lamps to get them out from the fairing? I followed a link in a previous post and it said none were available via the classifieds. Thanks
  23. Hi All, I have found that my hand is too big to change the headlamp bulb. I just can not reach it. I tried going on the left side above the headlight adjustment knob. Has anyone found an easy way to do this?
  24. I installed the Harley light fixture to my Venture yesterday and it works great and looks great. But my main brake light does not work now. I checked the bulb and it looks ok and I checked the wiring and every thing is wired correctly. I’m going to get a new bulb later today, but was wondering if anyone has any idea’s. Thanks, Everette
  25. As near as I can gather from threads here, I can use a H7616 bulb to replace the poor bulbs that came in my Yamaha passing lamps. Also if I understand correctly, I see some refere to this bulb as a H3 -- but it is not halogen, right? Bottom line -- I can't find the H7616 at JP cycles. Anyone got another source suggestion? Many thnx, DREBBIN
