    seat repairs

I recently gave up my 1984 Gold Wing for a 01 RSV which is great; however the seams on the seat are giving way. Any suggestions for repair without having to lose the seat design. I have spoke with a couple of upholsterers but they say the work they do will flatten out the seats.
  2. Well, another year for MotoGP here, and the crowd downtown for bike nite has doubled! We got down there just as they were letting the bikes in the area, got to park right on the corner in the middle of the action! Saw an 87 Blondie from Iowa there, the only other 1st gen we saw. A couple of 2nd gens, left VR cards on them all! Probably 1000- 1500 bikes down there, they stretched from south of Union Station to a block or two north of the circle (about a 5 block span), with bikes also filling 2 side streets as well. A couple of notes, we saw at least 4 09 VMaxxes, 2 Visions (yeck), probably an early 50's Harley that had NOT been touched since it was built. Red Bull had a big presence with a couple of "Party Blocks" setup (sponsor of the race). All in all, a really good time! Met up with Pegscraper and family, showed them around looking at the bikes, their Foreign Exchange student Carmen had an absolutely great time (she likes the "ape-hanger" choppers with the young fellas riding!). That's her beside the Boss Hoss bike. Finally ran into Mariner Fan right as we were leaving for the night, he had a dead cell phone and NO CAMERA! Mighty strange for Bob! Heres a few pics, check out the Harley with the custom paint:
  3. Thought i'd post a couple of my boys. 1 in Iraq the other in Afghanistan.
  4. We just got back from a week in Colorado. What a great ride. The weather was perfect for the whole week except the 1st day, which was ok, since we were acclimating to the 10,500 elevation of the condo that day anyway. One note, our Ventures run great in the mountains. I was riding with a couple of new Harleys, one 08 & one 09, I could climb Loveland Pass at 65 mph, 2up with the cruise on and the harley guys were wondering why I was running so hard! Here are a few pics.
  5. Hi, I am looking to replace 2 trailer tires on the bike trailer I took to the Hub this year. they are: Michelin MINIX 160/60 R 8 C 65J Tubeless radials I have called around and no one seems to think they are sold anywhere. Does anyone have these tires or have any idea where I can get a couple? Thanks, Tom
  6. Paula is fine, she has a few scrapes on her elbow and leg, but all in all she is doing great, she was up and around when we got back to the cabin and got up Sat. morning and fixed breakfast for us and helped out with more registrations and serving food, she is one tough lady. I ought to know she bullies me around all the time..............the bike is okay, just a broken windshield and a couple of small scrapes on the front fender. She went down in soft shoulder that was freshly laid down.
  7. Couple pix of the 86 I sneaked and took
  8. Im replacing the rear tire .I had a dealer mount tire and im putting everything back together. The problem is as i tighten the axle to spec i can barely turn the wheel/tire by hand .Is this normal or have i screwed something up? I put it in and out a couple of times with same results. I seems way tight to me.This is about the 5 or 6th time ive preformed this but havent noticed it that tight. Help please Chris
  9. Got her put back togather and threw seat on without sheild, bag sidecovers anything else I didn't need and took her out. That ladyu can DANCE!!! Almost pulled front wheel in 3rd gear and I don't have my nerve back yet. Guess I'll go put her clothes on her. Might take a "little" ride in the morning!! . Missed a couple shifts going into 3rd when I was shifting hard. Went to that false netural. No problem shifting easy?? Still Got a exhaust leak!!! Oh SKID...
  10. i would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the rally. annie the t-shirt packages were awesome. wish i could have won one. other than a couple of mishaps it went picture perfect. tonight is wind down and final party night.
  11. Well...a couple of months ago, the wife decided she was cool with riding her own bike and would be just has happy on the back of the Venture....So, she let me trade her bike in on a V-Max. I'd been eye balling a few here and there and last Fri decided to pull the trigger and picked me up a 2006 Max w/3600 miles on the clock. Picked it up for $8k out the door...which isn't a bad price, but not a good one either....unless you consider the stuff it came with. It already had the engine guards, sport shield, frame braces, and a few other items that I am still finding as I work over the bike (just found that the previous owner installed a K&N air filter, a couple of hours ago). Also has a nice lil airbrush job on the lid that can be ....let's say...distracting, at times Been having a blast with it since, although I still have to get used to the seat position and not having a "real" shield in front. But, dang that thing is quick....Swapped out the grips and added some lighting up front. Half way through swapping the turn signals, as well....got the rears done & the fronts are waiting till this weekend. Previous owner installed some little signals, that while clean looking, don't light up for crap. Also threw a set of pegs on the guards to stretch out a little when cruising down the highway. Anywayz, just thought I'd share:D
  12. Am looking at buying some Road King Pipes the # is 65547-09 can some one tell me if this is a non catalytic type pipe? I am within a couple of hours of the sale and cant find any info on the numbers.
  13. For the last couple of weeks, I've heard this jingling/jangling sound coming from low on the left of my '03 Midnight. Sounded like the spring in my side stand had given way and the stand assembly was banging up and down against the frame and/or the pipe. The sound seemed too "tinny" though to be caused by the thick stand arm. I got down and looked around on a couple of different days, and saw nothing. Yesterday (first ride in a week) the rattle was so loud, I pulled off the road, not more than two blocks from the house, to see what HAD to be ready to fall off the bike. Still couldn't see anything hanging down. The sound is VERY annoying (to the point of being DANGEROUS sounding). So now I'm starting to suspect that it's a baffle or some other internal component of the left muffler that's come loose. Sounds like someone installed a stretched out coat-hanger INSIDE the muffler by spot welding it at one end.....and letting the other end dangle against the insides of the muffler can. When I bang the back end of the pipe with my fist, it sounds just as though I were shaking my toaster to try and remove a stuck bagel!! So, tell me........DO the baffles in the stock pipes come free of their welds on a Venture this age? CAN they be welded back in place? (Kinda doubt there's any access from up the pipe!) Lastly, and most apprehensively.......what's the least expensive way out of this problem? Thanks for any words of wisdom, guys.

  15. Ohio State Patrol clocked a couple of motorcycles speeding. The lead was going 147 MPH. There is video on this link along with the story. The quote that got me was: http://www.nbc4i.com/cmh/news/local/article/osp_video_off-duty_trooper_officer_ticketed_for_speeding/19172/ Trooper Bryan Lee: “Either one of you have anything on you I need to know about?” “No sir. A couple badges is all,” one of the motorcyclists said. They were given tickets later but not during the traffic stop. All I could think of was that if it had been me, they would have had me on the ground and cuffed before hauling me in.
  16. Once again, we've more than made up for our membership fee. Someone on here posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about inserting your headset ear peices actually into the side of the helmet. Told the hubby about it last night and he just called. He just did the retrofit and said it worked great....don't even know they are in there. We take off for a 5k trip in a couple of days and all I could think about was how much my ears were going to hurt as our helmets fit perfect without the earpiece, but tight with them in. Now, thanks to the post, we'll both be comfy!! Tried to find the post, but couldn't so whoever started it thanks!!!!
  17. Saw a midnight in Northeast Pa. calls himself Darkside from Fl. was up to Me. on road 3 weeks couple more to go member here ???? Very nice couple first time I ran into a venture rider just traveling on the road.
  18. Alan and I have been members of the Ulysses Club.org for twelve years now, and try to spend our annual holidays travelling to, and attending the Rally and AGM held every year in a different state of Australia. It's the largest club in the southern hemisphere (27,533 members in Australia), and has even gone international to about seven countries. The club runs on very similar lines to VR.org--that's probably why I feel so much at home here!! AND "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" It was started 26 years ago by three guys looking for somewhere to socialise and have comradeship in their senior years.(with their wives etc) Their days of "hooning" were over and they just wanted to ride and enjoy. So I thought I would show you a couple of pics of rallies and some of the silly things we do to raise money for charities. (mostly for children & arthritis research) Thats Alan as the "phantom" and also as a woman (YUK) on the "shockin' Frock Run" where the men had to dress female (riders pay $10 & pillion $5) then there is a "beauty contest":rasberry: A couple of years back I even shaved off my hair, while a friend went "blue" for Luekemia research. I'll do most anything for the kids!! :happy34: So now I belong to the two best "family" clubs in the world, it doesn't get any better than that!!
  19. The ignition module I got isn't the right one so I'm not sure if I have other problems or not! It isn't running as smooth as it should but it could be a fouled plug or something. The problem may be a different response curve for the timing as well due to the diferent modsule. I stripped the module out of the '85 and found out it is also the different module, the same as the one I acquired. The good (?) news is that the module from the '85 is bad, and that's why it wouldn't start many years ago, so I can use my newly acquired one on that one! Sooo, the module I need is a TID14-28 41R10. The one I have is a 41R11 TID14-34. It seems to me there was a member rebuilding these modules. Anybody remember who?? I have a couple needing fixin' but I supose I could take them apart and replace the glass diodes myself. Anybody out there have the module I need for sale for a reasonbable price?? The last one I saw had a buy it now price of $99 and was around for several weeks before someone finally bought it. I have bought them of ebay as cheap as $45 but that was a couple of years ago...
  20. I know we have some PGR's here. Can somebody shoot me a PM. I'd like to ask a few questions about the group and membership. Thanks Mike

  23. With all that Muffin Man was doing with the carb tune and color tune we decided to change out the plugs on my bike too. I guess once every 60,000 miles whether they need it or not. Old Hippy was able to find me a couple plugs in town, but I was short two plugs still. Hippy went around and found you at the carb tune tent with a couple extra plugs. You graciously let me have them, THANK YOU, but I forgot your name and I need to pay you! So either reply here or with a PM and I'll get you a check out ASAP! Thanks again, unknown donor, true VentureRider spirit!
  24. Cathy took some pics yesterday and here they are. The first couple are of the Sat. AM Detroit group in route.
  25. I just purchased these [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Multi-Interphone-headsets/dp/B001SUZNGW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1242399404&sr=8-4]Bluetooth Headsets[/ame] and will be installing them into my new GMAX helmets. These appear to be fairly new on the market, could only find a couple reviews. I am going to be using them extensively over the next couple weeks, should be able to post a review in early June. We needed new headsets, ours are old and don't work well anymore. I also wanted to lose the wires. There is a huge range of prices on the bluetooth sets....most are above what I'm willing to pay. These are about the same price as lower-end wired units. I'm just hoping that they work as advertised and as the minimal reviews stated. I'll let you know! Joe
