  1. You Know, That You Can Prove Almost Any Point By Using Extreme Examples. If You Are A Foot Ball Player, You Have To Wear A Helmet Or You Don't Play. It Is A Recreation Just Like Motorcycling. Think About It!!!!!!!!!!!! O C
  2. Monsta, Thanks For The Reply. I Am Aware That I Should Have Been More Attentive. However There Are Times Things Sneak Up Or Pop Out At You. I Am Just Thinking I Want More Control/brake Power. I Have Practiced Emergency Stops...maybe Need To Do More. I Will Have To Let The Bones Heal First. O C
  3. I Am In The Habit Of Wearing My Helmet All Of The Time. I Am Not Going To Tell Others They Have To, But I Would Like It If They Did. I Don't Think That Passing Mandatory Safety Regulations Is Taking Away Anyones Rights. It Also Saves The Rest Of Us From Paying The Bills Of Those That Are Willing To Take Unnecessary Risks. I Am Talking About More Than Just Helmets. I Am Sure All Of You Can Think Of Valid Examples, Yes Even Those That Don't Want To Wear A Helmet. O C
  4. Some Of You Are Pretty Close, Maybe We Can Meet Up Next Year?
  5. Thanks For The Replies. It Is Not My Intention To Build My Own Brake Systems. (suicide) What I Would Like To Find Out Is If Any One Is Building Aftermarket Brake Systems. I Don't Ride Beyond My Capabilities, Or At Least Try Not To. I Came Back To This Sport After 40 Years And Have Enjoyed It A Great Deal. Both The Bikes And The People, I Have Found The People To Be Much Better Than The Bikes. So That You Know, My Buddy And Were Out On An Easy Ride And Returning Home. He Was In The Left Track Leading And I Was Behind In The Right Track, Staggered. I Don't Think I Was Too Close. He Signaled For A Right Turn And Slowed, I Did Not Catch It Until It Was Almost Too Late. He Was Cross Ways In Front Of Me, We Were On Clean Dry Pavement. I Could Not Go Right. I Braked Hard And Tried To Swerve Left. I Did Not Want To Run Him Over. I Was So Close To Him That I Touched His Bike, No Damage To His, Not Even A Mark, But He Says He Felt It. Next Thing I Remember Is Hitting The Pavement Head First And Then Getting Body Slammed Into The Asphalt. I Think We Were Going About 45 Mph And I Got My Speed Down To ...maybe 20-25 Mph Before Crashing. I Think That With Linked Brakes, That Both Brakes Would Have Come On At The Same Time. My Normal Riding Stops Are With Both Brakes, Always. I Am Not Sure Just What Happened, But The Damage To My Tour Deluxe Is All On The Left Side, And All Omy Injuries Are On The Left Side Except For A Little Road Rash. I Sure Would Like To Find Some Company That Can Engineer A Linked Braking System. I Like My Bike. I Have Been Appologizing To It Everyday, But It Still Won't Speak To Me. Well, Anyway Thanks For Listening.
  6. I Am Sure My Life Was Just Saved By My Helmet. I Don't Leave Without It.
  7. I Was On The Rstd.
  8. While Recuperating, I Am Having A Lot Of Time To Think About My Accident. What Caused It, How I Performed And How The Bike Performed. 1st Is Easy...i Was Not Paying Close Enough Attention, Flat Out My Fault. 2nd Has Required Deep Thought. I Know I Hit The Rear Brake Hard And I Think I Used Enough Front Brake, But Not Sure. My Reflexes Being What They Have Become, Is That I Have A Really Quick Right Foot. Did I High Side Myself? Not Sure But Think I Did. Sure Hit The Payment Hard. I Have Done Some Slow Speed Practice Emergency Stops, But Am Reluctant To Practice At High Speed..40-50 Mph. I Know I Skidded The Rear Tire, But Not Sure About The Front. Maybe If I Was As Quick With The Front As The Rear I Might Not Have Crashed. 3rd, The Bike Did What I Told It To, But I Think Is Capable Of Much More. Is It Possible To Link The Brakes On These Bikes And Still Keep Good Control In All Situations? Why Would It Not Be Good To Have Both Brakes Come On With One Control Instead Of Two? I Know That Racers And Certain Sport Bikes Need Independant Brake Control Because Of Their Riding Styles. I Don't Ride That Way, I Don't Want To See How Far I Can Lean The Bike Over, I Like To Cruise And Tour. What I Would Like To Do Is To Link And Balance The Brakes. Is It Feasible? All Thoughts Appreciated.
  9. Did Mine At 16,300 And They Looked Great. I Thought Previous Owner Had Changed Them.
  10. I WOULD LIKE TO PUT MY .02 WORTH IN HERE TOO. THIS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE, BUT IF IT WERE YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE CHIRP. SYNCRONIZE A STROBE LIGHT TO THE SOUND OF THE CHIRP, MUCH THE WHY A TIMING LIGHT WORKS, BUT WUTH A DIFFERENT TRIGGER. CUT HOLES IN THE CASE AND COVER WITH CLEAR PLASTIC (THIS PART REQUIRES GENEROUS DONOR BIKE). START IT UP AND YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE CHIRP BECAUSE THE STROBE WOULD FIRE EVERY TIME IT CHIRPED. I CERTAINLY DON'T HAVE THE EXPERTICE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, AND I DON'T THINK IT IS EVEN PRACTICLE, BUT WOULD WITH SUFFICIENT TECHNOLOGY LET YOU SEE IT...MIGHT LEAD TO A CURE. SORRY ABOUT ALL CAPS, BUT TYPING WITH ONE HAND.
  11. Orrin

    I got it

CONGRATULATIONS:bobby: WHEN YOU GO ON DUTY AND THINGS GET TOUGH...DO THE RIGHT THING, MAY NOT BE POPULAR, BUT YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER.
  12. THANKS FOR OF THE WISHES AND THOUGHTS CONCERNING MY ACCIDENT, THAT EAGLEEYE POSTED EARLIER. I THINK I GOT TO SEE MOST OF THEM. NOT SHOUTING, BUT TYPING WITH ONE HAND. I HAVE GOT TO SAY THAT THE EMT'S, SHERIFF DEPUTY, DOC'S AND NURSES THAT TOOK CARE OF ME AT HESS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN MAUSTON, WI WERE GREAT. MY RIDING BUDDY, BRIAN (RIDES A HONDA 599) SPECIAL THANKS. HE GOT TRAFFIC STOPPED AND CALLED FOR HELP RIGHT AWAY AND DID NOT LET THEM TAKE MY HELMET OFF. MY NEIGHBORS WHO ARE HELPING ME WITH PICKING UP PERSCRIPTIONS AND MADE MY DINNER LAST NIGHT. SO MANY PEOPLE TOOK GOOD CARE OF ME. THANKYOU! :bighug:I AM TRULY FORTUNATE. I HAVE TO SAY IT....WEAR YOUR HELMET...YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN A NICE AFTERNOON BIKE RIDE CAN GO VERY, VERY WRONG.
  13. Steve, Can't waite to go for a ride with you and see the new ride. We have talked on the phone enough about it, so I hope all goes well on Friday. Let em know what the gal out in Richland Center says about Yamaha. If you need any help let me know. We can sync those carbs any time you want.
  14. Skid, That's what I got also. Works great. I cut the dampers and tubing, measuring carefully. You will be happy you did it.
  15. I sync'd my own carbs today. The Carbtune worked great and the information on this site is spot on!!! The left side was in sync with each other and so was the right. However the left was not in sync with the right.not far off but enough so as you would notice. Adjusted the screw and had even bars all of the way across. BIKE RUNS MUCH BETTER---EVEN GREAT. I LUV YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! If I can help anyone sync their carbs I will be glad to help.
  16. How many of us complain about cagers cutting us off, turning in front of us, not letting us in, etc? An older biker (gad, I like saying that) gave me some tips and I have been trying to practice them all of the time. Be polite: Make sure others see you so than can avoid you, he told me to wear a white helmet. You know it sticks out like a sore thumb, with a black jacket. Use hand signals: I use them in heavy traffic and get lots of room and more than a few friendly waves. One guy in a pick up truck followed me through traffic just to make sure no one rear ended me, just because I used hand signals (as well as flashers). I know because we both happened to stop for gas at the same time and he told me. Don't flip someone off if they screw up: Others will see it and maybe not so courtious to another biker somewhere down the road. I know that we all know this, just thought I would bring it up again. I do like using the hand signals, it's fun. Let me and otherrs know what tips you have, it can' hurt.
  17. On Sept. 17th 2007 my credit card was charged for a Carbtune Pro. This morning at 11:00 am my rural mail carrier delivered my new Carbtune Pro to my mail box. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday! Unfreaking believable. Well anyway now I have tool and will sync my carbs this weekend. I have to learn sometime. Then I think Eagleeye wants to do his. Anyone else in the area let's have a party and see how many bikes we can either screwup or make right.:rotf:If you see a lot of guys walking with leather jackets on you will know how it turned out.
  18. Just ordered the carbtune pro. Anybody in the area, bring the beer and I will have the carbtune:)
  19. Don, I lost my wife a little over 4 years ago. Still miss her a lot. I will be thinking about her. Just be there for her and listen to her. My best to both of you.
  20. Mortch, Thanks for the idea on a speed bleeder. I think I will order some.
  21. Just got done changing spark plugs and engine coolan. Thanks to those who have posted service manual and have taken the time to put simple directions on how to: Thank you. You guys have saved me a lot of money. Now I can get a Carbtune and sync my own carbs. After looking at the carbtune site, what accsessories did you order with your carbtune, if any. If anyone wants to use it after I get it and they live in my area, I will be glad to help them and let them use it. Thanks again for all of the postings and good advice.
  22. VW, I have an 05 RSTD with 13,500 miles on it. Yes I do have a slight chirp. No whine that I can hear, but then I have some hearing loss. No, I don't need a set of used hearing aids. I am using Mobil 1 20W-50 synthetic motorcycle oil. I don't think the whine is that much of a problem. I bought mine used and really love the bike. No one can say for sure if you ever have the problem. I had the same concerns you do when I was looking at the bike but went for it any way. I know I made the right choice in buying the RSTD.
  23. I agree with you on one pad wearing way more than the other on the rear. I replaced my pads when I did the tire at 12,300 miles. Mechanic said the pistons in the caliper hang up. I asked for warranty but was denied. We freed up the pistons and he said things should be OK now. Hope this helps you.
  24. Speaking of passing lamps. I just tried to line up my passing lamps on my 05 RSTD. What a PITA. I removed the lamp from the housing then lossened the nut. No way to tell if I have them right other than to try the desolate road thing. Any ideas appreciated.
