rednecks right. retorque the heads first. if it works your much better off. pulling a head on one of these bikes is a major job. lots of places where perfection is involved to do it right. like keeping parts clean, getting everything back where it belongs, getting a mechanic that really gives a damn, etc.they can do more harm then good. if it were mine i would replace the gasket myself , before i would chance them screwing up my bike.i did the tranny recall on one of my bikes, cuz of all the horror stories on a forum about it. if the retorque stops the leak your way ahead.these engines have free standing cylinders.meaning the cyinder is not attached to the outside of the water jacket at the top. so if it is seeping on the out side it has nothing to do with leaking at the top of the cylinder. torque it first.bill

well as much as i hate to say something bad about crotch rockets. 2 and maybe 3 kids learned a good lesson today. they passed me like i was standing still on i-270, heavy traffic, weaving in and out. about 15 minutes later i saw red lights along side the road and 2 of them were on their knees next to their bikes in hand cuffs. came back by a little later and they were loading the bikes on a car hauler. guess their riding days are over. they will probably nail the one that got away later. i imagine they broke a whole bunch of laws before i saw them ,and the cops were waiting for them. can't really go off on them, i did a little stupid stuff like that when i was young. i just did'nt have as fast a bike. i learned the hard way to.

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense

if i got caught by the cops standing at the end of my drive even waving a gun at some one , i would be arrested no if's ands and buts. what was he doing out by the street with a gun in the first place. it would be different if one of his daughters was being harmed or molested and he shot him in the act. the guy is innocent until proven guilty, but it sounds like he still is in deep doo doo. -
i'm not sure but i think they are sealed ball bearings. i don't think they are even adjustable. think it's one of those things that lasts forever unless it was faulty when made.

that engine in the sho taurus looks just like a v max engine from the top. i tried to find one back then to build a motorcycle around ,but the engines out of the car were scarce. and the transmission and clutch would have been a major issue. a friend of mine and i just designed and built a billet aluminum four speed with dry clutch, and belt primary drive, that would work great with that svo engine. if i had more time i would build a bike with the svo engine. the transmissions are available if anyone wants to build one . i just built a scooter with one in it for a prototype.worlds fastest and most expensive cushman eagle ever built. i also have a 1958, cushman eagle in my shop i am building with a 1953 crosely 4 cyl. overhead cam 750 cc inline watercooled engine in it with automatic variable drive transmission. any cushman people on here. i'll post the website if you want to see the one i built with the 4 speed. bill

the writings on the wall. this country is in deep non reverable financial trouble. it's not the fault of the government ,it's the fault of the american people wanting everything yesterday. buried to the limit on charge cards and mortgages. we are the government. it's down hill like a penny a day doubled.the only change this country needs is the attitude of the american people, and that just ain't gonna happen. the big party time is coming to an end. still glad i'm as old as i am. remember the other super power. well they went broke.

i think he's got a pretty good idea when and where to find me. no where to hide.

you are right one must maintain some kind of control. so far i haven't done anything stupid on mine. reaming one of these things out takes alot of skill and practice. it is like living on the edge. i highly respect it. as soon as i get to where i have mastered the acceleration. i may turbo charge it. it's on my list of things to do. i know that is overkill but this is one of my many bike builds that i have done where price and doing what i want to do are no object. i always wanted a turbo. my ultimate goal is maybe running the texas mile next year. just to say i been there done that. got several things i want to do while i am still able.not going to let old age cramp my style till i have to. when the main man wants me, he's gonna come get me. whether i'm sittin on my patio barbequeing, or on my bike. can't worry about it.

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense
Snarley Bill replied to royalstarjac's topic in Watering Hole
if he ran the bike at the guy he must have been in reverse to make it self defense. ya can't even shoot some one breaking into your house around here unless you drag them inside. not siding with the biker, sounds like he screwed up also, but how do you shoot someone in the back in self defense? -
okay, i finally am getting caught up with things in my life and have a little extra time. i want to learn how to post pictures on ebay and websites. i am to the point where i have learned to put them in my picture file on my computer, now what do i do? i've been putting this off for a long time and decided i need to learn how to do it. can anyone give me a simple understandable explanation?

i never met a bike i did'nt like and almost always had a very fast bike. my first fast bike was a new 1970 mach III, kaw. a real pooch by todays standards. but a handful back then. i look for the goverment to put some severe legislation on crotch rockets in the near future. hate to see it happen. just glad i got mine before it happens. my zx 14 is probably the safest bike i ever had.it has one finger front brakes. excellent seating position, tremendous handling, when riding it me and the bike become one. the bad point is that in the hands of an inexperienced rider that hasn't mastered perfect throttle control it can become a killer. i don't know which side of the fence i am on when it comes to overpowered street bikes. in the right hands they are wonderful. in the wrong hands they can be suicide. maybe there should be certain standards that a buyer should have to fullfill before the dealer can turn a rider loose with one. i don't know. it is the rider ,not the bike that makes the reputation. thats my educated 2 cents worth.

i would say the shooter is in deep doo doo. what was he thinking? would'nt walk in front of his house. -
you are so right. this is a rough time for new riders of any age. with all the traffic and people living their whole life in the fast lane. a rider course is a real must. i started riding in the 50's on motorbikes and scooters and got my first motorcycle in the 60's. traffic was not a problem back then for me back then . lack of good sense was my problem. most of the wrecks i had were self inflicted. if i ride into town in a very populated area i usually take my majesty scooter. much easier to ride in traffic.

try 65 years old on a hopped up zx 14. she sure does make ya feel young again. i love it. it ain't one for a beginner. need lots of good sense to ride one of these. they can bite you real quick.

what you have to do is put a dividing line in this discussion.there is a difference between human error, and negligence. negligence is talking on the cell phone, intentionally running red lights, speeding, tailgating, sight seeing, etc. etc.. these things can be controlled by the individual. a human error is something that no matter how hard you try you have only so much control over. anybody that is a part of this thread who says they never make mistakes is full of crap. some mistakes can cause injury or death. if you slip with a knife and cut your finger it is a mistake in judgement that could have just as easily been another kind of mistake while driving a car or riding a bike, or climbing up on your roof.we just had a police officer get killed when he fell off his roof while putting a screen over his chimney to keep squirrels out. while he was doing it a squirrel popped out of the chimney and scared the hell out of him and he fell off the roof. his funeral was yesterday.true story.his mistake,no safety line. human error does kill and mame. to err is to be human, and vice versa. only one guy i know who is perfect, and he's alot bigger than us.

dan sounds like you got nailed by the felons i was talking about in my post. there are alot of them out there that unfortionately, get away with their unlawful ways. and people like you have to pay. sounds like you have an honest beef. bill

you are 100 % right on. we are humans and we all make many mistakes every day of our lives. there is a difference between people making an error in judgement, and just not caring and taking their half out of the middle. people who blatantly break the law and don't care about anyone but themselves should be treated as the felons they are. unfortionately they get away with it most of their lives. people who make a mistake in judgement should be judged upon it accordingly. i have made mistakes in my life that could have cost me or someone else their life if the circumstances would have aligned their selves, as i'm sure everyone has, and i thought after i did it ,where is my mind. i did'nt do it with intent, i'm just human and not perfect. i hate it when i make an error in judgement and penalize my self mentally for doing it. i hope i never make that ultmate mistake that results in someone being hurt or killed, but no one can make that garrantee cuz we are in the end ,still human. the best thing we can do is try hard to drive carefully, obey the law, and try hard not to make that ultimate mistake. 5
