  1. I've got 2 bikes and 3 scooters 1988 Yamaha XVZ1300 Venture Royale 1987 Yamaha XVZ535 Virago 1989 Honda CH250 Elite 1985 Honda Ch250 Elite 2000 don't know what it is 35cc motorized skateboard with bars and seat -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  2. I use cardboad cut from big boxes, a few layers thick and I can't feel the concrete anymore. When contaminated with oil and dirt, it gets replaced with new. Constant supply of cardboard coming in from purchases. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  3. Maybe that is the living room! -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  4. I've never had to jack up the whole bike at one time. I use the center stand and brace it with a cinch strap so it can't kick back, then take off the front wheel and jack up the back end making the bike kneel on the fork ends, this gets the back end up enough for my service access needs. For raising the front, I empty the rear shock air and even let air out of the tire, then put a jack under the engine case to raise the front wheel and forks off the floor. For added bracing, side straps can improve stability. I haven't needed to do this much over the 20+ years of wrenching on my Ventures. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  5. I just ordered mine for $24.77 shipped to my door. 12/13/14 -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  6. I use a sheepskin seat cover on long rides, but take it off for rain. The sheepskin is cooler and dryer on my behind on hot days and warmer on cold days than the vinyl seat. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  7. No repeat numerals............. saw it right away. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  8. My winter project is fixing a free lawnmower I picked up alongside the road. Sign on it "Free - bent shaft" I've fixed a bent lawnmower crankshaft before with a big hammer, but discovered it had no bent shaft. Only a missing a critcal blade flat washer, and with fresh gas started right up and runs fine............. and winter is not over yet. What to do next...... -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  9. Maybe the choke (enrichment) linkage is not set correctly to move the enrichment plunger all the way out. The plunger is moved by a metal linkage that is activated by a cable clamped to the carb frame. The clamp provides the means to move the cable for the adjustment. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  10. I use STODDARD SOLVENT otherwise known as WHITE SPIRITS for all my parts cleaning. It is easier on the skin, much lower flamability, and the fumes are easily tolerated and almost zero odor. I buy in the 5 gallon can paying around $45. It can be brushed on, sprayed, or parts cleaner soak tubbed. The SAFETY CLEAN company sells this Stoddard Solvent under their own name for 3x the generic price. Interestingly, It was developed in the 1920's as a replacement for the dry cleaning industry that was having safety and health issues with the clear gasoline that was the industry standard. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  11. I've been riding and turning wrenches on bikes for 45 years, 25 yrs on Ventures, and I'd trust those tires as you've described. Check tire pressure Religiously. If pressure drops more than 3# in a week, it is likely a rim leak needing breakdown, then you can look at the inside of the casing for damage as well. Keep an eye on the tread for any changes such as deformities and blisters/bubble/lifting than would indicate tread separation, which is a BIG concern. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  12. More choke............
  13. Yes, we knew that. To make the ABS cement less runny, leave the cap off the container for several days. This also concentrates the solution resulting in less shrinkage. If thinning is needed, use MEK, not acetone. MEK can be used by itself as a solvent adhesive by melting the ABS materials together. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  18. Channel 20 works better for strongest/farthest signal. That mid range between 1-40 is why truckers use 19 and 21. One is for N-S travel and the other is E-W oriented. When I travel with other bikers, we use 20 for sure. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  19. After checking the spark plugs, spray starting fluid into the airbox and see if it starts briefly. If it starts, and quits, the problem is the fuel system. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  20. Thanks For what it's worth, the two part numbers are: 1st gen ('88) 26H-16150-00-00 2nd gen ('08) 26H-16150-10-00 What should we make of the one digit difference? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  21. Was just gifted a brand new 2nd gen clutch assembley, and was wondering if it is interchageable with my 1st gen. We thought since the two engines are similar/identical that the clutch would be also. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  22. Either rich or lean will result in some unburned fuel entering the exhaust where it oxidizes creating hotter exhaust gasses. My 1st gen has exhaust so cool that I can place my hand over and contacting the end of the exhaust without burning. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  23. Hey, that sounds like 'Firewater'.........we can bottle and sell it!!!!! -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
