I'll have my hammer ready, the 5lb. one for fine adjustments to your air guage. I can loan you the hammer if needed. BTW, McDonalds now has a $2 jalapeno burger called the 'Big Double Jalapeno' in their value section. I tried one and thought it worth the $2, but not more, however not as good or 'nutritious' as JB's product:rotf: I'd have one again if ever forced to eat at a McD's. With the jalepenos, their burgers don't taste so much like dirt anymore. Maybe the Canadian stores now have them also. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

You can test yours against mine that I paid a lot of money for. I've only dropped it a few dozen times. Since I paid over $20 for it 30 years ago, it must worth even more today, and therefor must be very accurate. If yours isn't accurate like mine, we can fix it with a hammer. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

It's the engine oil. Mine does that after sitting for a few weeks in the garage. So before starting, I shift into 2nd and 'break' the sticking clutch loose, then start the bike. After initial 'unsticking' the clutch, there's no problem till once again the bike sits unused for a lengthy period. I'm using Shell Rotella 15-40 and the clutch probably won't stick if I used a genuine mc oil........ but I can live with it because the Rotella is good stuff. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Fuel pump
Peder_y2k replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
"Voltage all over the place" would indicate a bad connection or bad ground. Even bad wiring somewhere in the pump circuit. You could try to power the pump directly from the battery using a fused jumper. This would confirm or eliminate the wiring issue. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -
It is normal for some coolant loss over time due to the evaporation of the water in the mix, especially when warm for long periods. While the water evaporates from the overflow bottle, the anti-freeze does not evaporate making a higher concentration. I normally add distilled water to refill the overflow bottle for the loss of 'coolant' as there are no leaks in my bike. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

4 Wheel Blue Venture...Who Is This, Puyallup Washington
Peder_y2k replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
Gosh!! A MkII with training wheels. That's a big as a car. In all my riding 512 and the Puyallup area, I've never seen it. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -
The objective for synchronizing is to obtain equal airflow thru all the carbs. I've thought that if I didn't already have a manometer, I could use a small diameter wire as a 'feeler' guage and set each carb throttle valve the same. The multi carb linkage is designed to move the throttle valves the same, so the system just needs a good starting point. The wire (or each wire - one in each carb) could be slipped down the throat and pinched between the valve and throat, and when each linkage screw is adjusted to where all the wires have the same 'pull/slip-friction', the carbs are then pretty close to being 'equal'. Follow the synch order outlined in the manual. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

1989 Venture
Peder_y2k replied to Travis's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Selling prices vary by region. In my area, $1600 is very fair for bike and trailer.............the trailer being around $400 making the bike $1200. If the bike is not in obvious need of repairs, $1200 for the bike is a good value. The bike should show no wet spots underneath, have OK tire tread, have no driveability issues. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -
A bath fan, plus a ceiling fan and several lights should NOT reguire two circuits. Those should not exceed 15Amps if run all at once. Something else is/was not right. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Tires- No Debate!! Just a poll that's all.

Lower cowl ( air Scoop) Question!!!!
Peder_y2k replied to Huggy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If your crash bars have the mounting tabs and the lower front cowl doesn't fit, then the crash bars are bent/tweaked. It's not that hard to bend them back to original. BTW...... the aftermarket '83-85 Mk1 chrome spoiler won't fit the Mk2's. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -
Or with a contrary opinion? I prefer the clean look without that gaudy thing on the fender, so I took it off and threw it out as it serves no purpose....... but that's just my opinion -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

To ease getting it up on centerstand, pump the rear shock up to 65 psi. This lifts the height of the bike making it much easier pull over the hump. My '88VR has the built-in compressor so this is easy. Regarding the oil overfill, simply loosen the drain plug and remove it for a moment.....be ready to thread if back in so it won't all drain. You may need to top up if too much is lost. No problems associated with overfill if caught in time.... about the only possibility is residual oil dripping from air cleaner box if oil had been pushed into it. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Side Cover Oil Leaks
Peder_y2k replied to Peder_y2k's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The telltale 'oil trail' led right to both screws. When I removed the chrome side cover, several teaspoons of oil dribbled out. On examination, the o-ring seals the hole used for accessing the crankshaft bolt used for rotating the engine during valve adjustment. When oil leaks past the o-ring, it slowly fills the cavity behind the cover and then leaks past the screws. It obviously takes some miles/time for this to occur, so my next all day outing will be in 2 weeks, then we will know more about my pseudo repair using hardware store o-rings from the toilet repair section. I know the cover went back on with more pressure to fit the parts with the new o-ring in place. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
