Cyl #4 might have some carbon buildup on it. Check the spark plugs and see if #4 is darker. Also, the piston rings might be holding more oil creating slightly more compression, and this oil may show on the park plug as well. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

End of Season Carb Woes
Peder_y2k replied to Ace's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check the fuel tank for rusting. Rust has a way of passing through a fuel filter and coating the inside of the carb, including the inlet check valve. Also, the check valve that is sealed into the casting by a small o-ring that may have deteriorated allowing fuel to flow around the valve. A complete rebuild, as you put it, is not likely necessary. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -
Now that is BS!!! One can't blame the manufacturer for what the distributor ordered. The Chinese make what the buyer specified, and the manufacturer just turns a blind eye to the orders for poor quality product and takes the money. As for what they make for their own use, it is good quality, like my Norinco 7.56x39 will operate all the time, every time no matter what, and is the equal of any similar firearm in the world. I vividly reacall the days when 'made in Japan' was synonymous with 'junk' -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

I enjoy the feeling of being "in the movie", rather than watching it. That means all my senses are occupied and my brain feels very much attuned and awake to my surroundings........more so than too much coffee. BTW, I wear a 1/2 helmet on purpose to augment my awareness. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Starter quit
Peder_y2k replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It would seem that way that the starter is bad. It is possible the starter innards are just dirty from used brush material deposits blocking current flow, and easily cleaned off with brake cleaner spray after opening the unit. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA -

Looking forward to what you may offer. Sounds like a gizmo I should have for my 'tool box'. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Check the fuel lines that are inside the fuel tank. Also check all fuel lines for cracks. I've got a string trimmer where the little bulb has a big split and leaks fuel badly, but the engine still starts on full choke and runs fine.........just more pulls to start. McClendon's has small fuel lines .....and maybe replacement squeeze bulbs. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Put it in the trailer. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Avoid bulbs made in non first world countries as the second and thrid world countries have yet to master the art of filament metallurgy. Buy only bulbs from the USA, Britain, Holland, Belgium, Germany, and Japan. Avoid Mexico, Poland, China, India, Taiwan, etc. Not all countries make bulbs, but the ones mentioned have bulb factories -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

My Gen1 Mk2 idles so smooth you'd liken it to a sewing machine. Radio antenna absolutely still. When it no longer sounds like the sewing machine, it's time for another synch with my old 4 tube mercury manometer. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

The most accurate and relied on by long experienced motorcycle mechanics/tuners is the mercury manometer type. There is simply no substitute for their sensitivity and accuracy. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

Latest news is the trailer was abandoned in Seattle with 4 of the complete bikes inside, but the 5th bike in pieces was gone along with tools and other stuff. The 2 owners were elated on the recovery. The tow vehicle was recovered some 20 miles away in Auburn, a neighboring community to Tacoma -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

"......wish cell phone manufactures would jump on board and make the cell phones so they couldn't txt if they detect the phone moving faster than 5 mph........." and hamburgers that won't eat while moving..........and newspapers that won't read...........and makeup that won't apply. I remember reading a Road & Track magazine article in 1958 entitled "Death by Distraction"............ and at that time the focus was on radios and heater controls. Not much has changed. -Pete, in Tacoma A USA
