  1. The oil warning light is for the fluid level only, not pressure. Under hard acceleration, the oil will slosh to the rear of the engine causing the sending unit to drop lower and signal the warning light. What matters is the oil is at the proper level and that the oil pump is working moving the oil. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  2. Working on early Ford (1985) multi-port fuel injection system. Not running engine, testing fuel pressure OK at 40psi. After test, noticed a very quiet ticking sound (never started cold engine). Listening closey, the sound was two part, first a ping, then followed in about 1 second by a tok, ..... ping - tok......ping - tok........and this repeated for about 2 minutes until the fuel pressure guage dropped to 20psi where the sound stopped and pressure stabilized. At first I thought it was the fuel pressure regulator, but now I'm thinking it is a defective injector. Is it possible for a bad injector to pop open on its own under pressure? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  3. Sounds familiar. My bikes don't need anything, but I go look anyway (wet spot on floor), and every couple days I review ebay and craigslist just to see if there is anything I should want.......(didn't know I wanted it until I saw it syndrome). I also go out and check the yard each morning for anything new that showed up during the night. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  8. Yup, at some 43,000 miles, that one is about ready for the 2nd gear repair......Good Luck!!! -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  9. NO!! Common auto parts and hardware store o-rings won't fit....they are either too thick or thin...even the metric ones. ONLY the oem o-ring will work correctly. Useing a substitute will only cause another leak. Take it from a gearhead like me that this is true. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  10. Lenny, You should check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate_battery Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries are better in terms of energy density and resistance to exploding in flames like the more conventional lithium-ion types. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  11. How to buy one???

  14. Your carburetors could also be out of adjustment (usually pilot screw setting). A rich or lean mix will cause higher engine temps and result in unburnd exhaust gasses entering the exhaust making the exhaust at the outlet too hot to hold the back of your hand 1 inch away. On my excellent running '88VR, I can hold my hand at the exhaust flow till I get bored with it all -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  15. Does anyone think it sounds good? Like crap? Just my opinion..... sounds not-so-good Is removing the baffles bad or taboo? Federal Law against modifying exhaust for highway use. I prefer a nice quiet sound, like a sewing machine, especially if I have to listen to it all day wearing my 1/2 helmet. That way I can hear if anything changes, and I can hear my passenger talking normally. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA '88 VR
  16. The gas filler splash guard drains to the ground thru a tube. The spark plug sockets were originally sealed with a grommet around the plug wire connector. These grommets get hard and shrink over time and then water will enter and short the plug, so that's what likely happened. When parking overnight, I always use a bike cover....JIC -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  18. Check your state DOL for 'contested title' process. In my state, once started, the state issues a license plate with current tabs and registration so it can be legally ridden, then a 3 year wait for title. Bike can still be sold, but the new buyer will need to wait the remainder of the 3 yr. period. The 3 yr. wait gives time limit for the title transfer to be contested by the original title holder, and if they show the bike goes back to them and any improvements made to the bike are lost to them:fingers-crossed-emo -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
