  1. I'm assuming they will go the Vtwin route as well....better gas mileage etc. It's a shame...I don't own a Vtwin for a reason, and there are already plenty of options out there. That will just leave Honda and BMW as viable options. Not that I care a ton....my Venture isn't going anywhere, anytime soon
  2. I know it's an old thread....but I'll give +1 on the baggershield. The low position is perfect for normal riding....still blocks the bugs etc. The high position works when I'm carrying a passenger. I think it looks extremely sharp as well...but to each his own

  4. Are all these comments based on the bubs slip ons or do they offer a full pipe? Haven't checked them out. The drilled out HD's just arent doing it for me
  5. Woo...hoo...i'm there. Either location. Will put in for vacation as soon as dates are ser
  6. I looked at one at the local dealer Saturday while waiting for parts. Very sharp bike...and they mounted the fairing correctly too The plain Vulcan with the hard bags looked pretty sharp as well.
  7. No rain grooves...just 2 lane roads with the usual tar snakes etc. Maybe have a bigger problem with the front wheel bearings, rear swingarm, or rear wheel bearings. Not too worried about it now as she's riding pretty good. Might have to switch somebody at a future MD or ride...if they think theirs handles solid and see what they think of mine. I bet 50% is me still getting used to a top heavy touring bike...but still think I have something fishy....and it just was amplified with the loose steering head bearing.. No further handling mods planned until winter (if then). Next is just going through the carbs for float heights and A/F screws...been putting that off for a few weeks because she is running so darn good....doesn't seem important
  8. OK...update (and thanks for all the great input) Thumbs up for the leveling links.....major improvement. I've never ridden another big touring bike like a Wing or Voyager...so can't compare. All I can say is handling was terrible compared to any other bike I've ridden. Switching from stock rubber to E3's really had no effect...I'm guessing because everything else was so bad... Fixing the rake and trail with those links, is something the factory should have done. 75% improvement at any and all speeds. My other problem...is I didn't tighten the head bearing much the first time. Put it up on stands again, followed everyone's advice and ended up tightening nearly a quarter turn. Made another huge improvement as you could imagine. I can live with the handling now, and hopefully learn to love it. Don't think any more adjustments are needed for the time being. As someone posted early on...I won't form any permanent opinions until I get 5k on it...but can tell you it's been a step in the right direction for sure. I'm definitely way more comfortable with it already. Did some figure 8's and tight U turns in the YMCA lot after I got the links installed. Not too bad, tighter than I could do on my ZZR
  9. Installed the levelling links last night...amazingly easy process. Made a world of difference. My front tire still feels a little funky at speed. Going to check the steering head again using Eck's instructions....because that is what it feels like to me
  10. Man...i wish I could say the same. I.ve had various bikes since '85...usually sportbikes. I was always impressed with the touring bikes whipping through the safety course while I struggled on my sportbike. I've never ridden a worse handling bike than this venture. Makes me hesitate to carry a passenger as that just makes it worse. I initially chalked it up to stock tires with 10k on them, I changed to E3's and only marginally better. Snugged my steering head bearing too. Hoping these levelling links are the magic bullet
  11. I've grown to tolerate the whine...mainly with gear selection. My only issue anymore is the twitchy handling and instability. Leveling links arrived yesterday...really hoping that fixes it
  12. warp1

    new project.

Have always loved that Magna 750, just didn't know it was setup for low seat height....good to know. My girlfriend is 5 ft also and she rides a stock height, '01 Shadow 750. Really has some get up and go and she can touch .... but only with her boots on. Handles it pretty well though, except for some tricky, low speed stuff.
  13. Just wanted to say thanks to the general site membership. Been very valuable to me so far. Just got back from a small (500 mile) riding weekend and everything just worked great. - My stereo was locking up after 5 min of riding (ever since I brought it home). Pulled the connectors, contact cleaner and dielectric grease...worked like a champ the whole weekend. - Installed my baggershield windscreen while the fairing was apart....perfect with just the short section (I'm 6'4") - Built my first motorcycle trailer based on the tech info in the trailer section. Pulled straight and true...and she was loaded pretty good. - Hitch from Carbon 1 and aux wiring from M61A1MECH....again perfect. - Used Carbon 1's stand to put fresh E3's on the front and rear....that and dynabeads = 0 vibration. All this added up to me having a very enjoyable, troublefree weekend. Great site, and glad I'm a member. Now to try adjusting my carb floats and using the carbtune to set my A/F screws....I like that it's free and curious if it will affect my MPG at all. I seem to be at the standard 38-39.
  14. Thanks....those were my thoughts....but, I'm obviously biased
  15. Pulled the rear wheel to change the tire and considered pulling the gear mounted on the wheel. Got the dust seal off and just about pulled the snap ring....re-read the tech article and realized it was about noisy rear...which mine isn't...so ended up not pulling and greasing it. Anyhow....new E3 mounted and on, pipes on...just finishing my last electrical connection in the fairing and the bike is ready for the weekend....but, See the dust seal still sitting on my tool box How important is it for pavement riding (no gravel)? Can I get by the weekend? a month? Take the damn tire off in this 200 degree garage and put it back on? Thanks for any input
  16. +1 I've only recently started using them. There's a few local "bike" guys that I will always go to around here...because I just trust their opinion, and they've gone from switching to dyna beads to swearing by them. Couple real sharp guys on the ZZR/sportbike forum also use them, and have for years in many applications. Doesn't mean they're better....but my logic tells me if experienced mechanics use them on their personal bikes....sure the hell ain't snake oil
  17. Had to pull 1 rotor when I changed my front last night using the harbor freight stand. I have to get off my ass and order a different lever, maybe mojo...that seems to be my biggest frustration. rotor wasn't near as bad as my sportbike was.....other than the ****ty star driver I had to go buy
  18. Here are the 2 deer we saw, about 20 miles out. We were both stopped in the road staring at each other... http://i748.photobucket.com/albums/xx130/wlwarp/DSC_0268.jpg
  19. Damn....gladyou guys are OK. Talk about drama after a MD . We saw 2 deer come out of the ditch, shortly after we left too...again, broad daylight. 1 stopped right in the centerline and the other stayed in the ditch. I stopped about 10 feet short....might be the ones you hit Rick...Ginny snapped a photo...I'll post it later. Great meeting all of you
  20. Thanks for all the info...maybe I'll get a chance to look at it during the WI maint. Day...
  21. Sounds like a plan...tires came in, but pretty sure I ordered the wrong size. Neither one is as big as the current back tire. Won't have time to change before the weekend trip anyhow. If I'm lucky.....the front one is there and I just clicked the wrong item for the back tire. I posted above.....I already synch'ed the carbs. It's one of the first things I do to any motorcycle. It's amazing how much of an affect it can have. I'll check the steering head as that's quick...but need to figure out a safe way to lift the front end. My lift adapter from carbon one, should be in tonight.
  22. Well...promised an update. Unfortunately 2/3 of it is bad. Kept getting CO levels of 20-60 PPM in both boxes. From my minimal testing, this was idling and at speed. I'm 95% sure I could fix this with a snorkel setup for each box (and still may...for the benefit of those that may want to try). Took my dogs for a 5 min jaunt to the gas station (20-60 is barely above alarm limits) and they HATED it. One was so scared, she crapped....the other wasn't happy either and wouldn't even accept a slim jim bribe (and he LOVES his treats). The only good news is the trailer pulled very well. Never got it above 45 as I was only testing for CO...but since I followed all the advice on here...I'm pretty confident. Will make a great trailer for camping and rally's, with tons of dry storage and still room on each side for tent, chairs, etc. http://i748.photobucket.com/albums/xx130/wlwarp/IMG_1018.jpg http://i748.photobucket.com/albums/xx130/wlwarp/IMG_1015.jpg
  23. sounds good. By backroads...I meant 2 lane rural highways....I wouldn't say they are particularly rough. But speed must be up because I didn't notice it in town. Mainly lots of tar snakes etc. Besides my tire change...I'll check the air in the front forks....thanks
  24. All of the flat black will be on the underside.....The top will all be shiny aluminum, the dog box and the areas the box doesn't cover....I'll put down thin aluminum diamond plating, just to make it match. By poor welding, I meant my beads aren't all that pretty. As far as the frame goes, I only spot-welded the corners after it was bolted square. The majority of the welding was for the tongue extension.
