  1. Stock tires on the RSV and RSTD are NOT radials!! Avon does make a 150/80-16(71H) and a 150/90-15(80H) biasply They also have MT90B-16(74h) 130 wide, makes the bike's slow speed handling better and handles more load. http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/?page=tyres&method=showspecs&id=1
  2. I'm not sure about the aftermarket sensors or any specifically for bikes, but all 08 and new cars in the US are required to have TPMS and some of the sensors don't actually transmit unless the tires are spinning. That way it conserves the batteries in the sensors. The ones on my Jeep seem to send occasionally even when not spinning as my dash pressure alert has gone off when the spare was low.
  3. I don't wrap until a week or so before Christmas, but I ALWAYS have her major present and most of all my shopping done before thanksgiving.
  4. When I lived in Michigan I thought Winter Wonder Land was a perfect description.. Because every winter I wondered why I lived there!!
  5. Note: if you have reached #9 in a conversation with you wife, it is too late. You should have followed Fido out the doggie door two replies ago. Quick grab a pillow before you go out the door, as fido will probably be let back in before you.
  6. To be extra safe I have a pay pal account but never let any payments through pay-pal use my bank account, I always force it to use the back up credit card. So on top of all the protections Pay-pal has in place, I also have the protections in place by my credit card company.
  7. Actually one of those military jets with a wing missing is in a video just over from the debunking video.
  8. Now that you have said that, I want to mention many of the bikes I've owned over the years would sit for long periods with no problems when finally started. When I was in CA I was in the Navy and would be out to sea for weeks or months at a time and neither my 76 Honda or my 78 Yamaha had problems after sitting, and when I lived in MI, my bikes would sit all winter, often with little to no prep, and might start hard but usually ran fine after a day or two, and none of my bikes there had issues with sitting for less than a month. But since I have lived in Florida both my bikes have done this on occasion. I wonder if the gas in this area is different than other areas and might be part of the problem.
  9. My 07 Venture did that for a couple days after I let it set for a month,, but I took it for a long ride, down to Daytona (I live between Jax and St Augustine), and it seem to clear up,, I just try to make sure I start it regularly and not let it sit too long now.. My old Kaw was carbureted and it would act up if I let it sit too long also,,
  10. kneedraggers has one for $132.. http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/Targa_Solo_Seat_Cowl_Yamaha_R6--630005.html
  11. I would agree, here is a link to the Yamaha accessory ones http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/accessories/acsubcontaineritems/5/8/191/1077/all/1.aspx
  12. I have the same outfit, and not sure how much you are carrying but I fold the jacket up and put it in my side bag all the the time. I manage in one side bag to get all 4 liners, a small first aid kit, a small tool kit, several microfiber rags, and a bunch of real small stuff like zip-lock bags, rubber bands, zip ties and stuff, then add my jacket and Zumo 550 when I stop. I love the jacket, prior to this one used several depending on the weather and it was a real pain on a trip.
  13. I guess that means there will be no vintage bikes racing at Daytona's Fall Cycle Scene during Biketoberfest??

    To Trike or Not

I've done a little more research, I hadn't done it before as I've never really thought about trikes.. It seem my concerns about stopping not an issue.. There have been very little actually testing, but they have done some on Goldwings.. An 1800 can stop from 60 to 0 in 123ft on average. When triked they stop in 156ft on average, a little longer, but still better than most cars. I also read up about handling, it seems you need either very stiff to solid rear suspension or a good anti-sway system to keep the trike from wallowing and leaning the wrong way on turns at speed. H&H uses the Lehman no lean suspension, and Hannigan uses an anti-sway system.. Hannigan always has several on display at Daytona, http://www.hannigantrikes.com/content/forsale.html both at Bike Week and Biketoberfest.. Some of them are very sweet.. I actually ate dinner and shared a bottle of wine with Mr. Hannigan and his wife a few years back when I road to a BMW LT rally. Seemed like a great guy, he was planning a tour into Mexico. That was when I was still deciding which full dresss touring bike was going to buy.
  15. Credit Unions are usually the best place!!
  16. When you use a petroleum oil for a long period of time, a varnish-like deposit forms on the walls and other surfaces of the inside of your engine. If you have ever seen the inside of an engine, I'm sure you have noticed it. This varnish material is not sludge, but is a brownish coating. It doesn't much matter what brand of oil you have been using, it still forms, although it might vary in color. This coating will tend to cover the seals in the engine. The most critical are the front and rear main seals and the valve guide seals. This coating keeps the oil from contacting the seals, which will cause the seals to dry out and shrink. A seal will swell as much as 10%. This is an important factor in keeping an engine tight and free of leaks. In the 1970's when synthetics were new, the seals were not all made of the same materials and some synthetics treated them differently. If you where ever into an old Chevy small block from the early 1960's, they used a piece of rope as a rear seal. Now seals are all pretty much the same stuff, regardless of the vehicle manufacturer, and the various oil manufacturers know what they are dealing with and have overcome any adverse or inconsistent seal swelling. Anyway, anytime you change oil brands, and it doesn't have to be from conventional petroleum oil to a synthetic oil, it can be from one conventional petroleum oil to another brand name petroleum oil, the fact that each oil has a different chemical make up will often remove this varnish. Synthetics are, of course, different and will usually lift this coating off. Synthetics, since they are formulated to last longer for extended drains, has a high amount of detergent/dispersant additives and will clean the inside of an engine. When this coating is removed, it re-exposes the seal. Often, the build-up of varnish was providing a seal, or "false-seal", and by removing the coating, the seal will start to leak oil. On really high mileage engines, like over 150,000 miles for gas, and 600,000 miles for diesels, the seal may have cracked. This seal will obviously keep leaking. But in most cases, the seal will re-swell after 500-1,000 miles and stop leaking.
  17. To me, slow speeds or around town, the Wing feels bigger, more top heavy and harder to handle than my Venture. Once you get over 30mph, the Wing becomes surprisingly nimble for a big bike. While the Venture never handles badly, even pretty well once you get rid of the stock Brickstone tires, it never is accused of being nimble.

    To Trike or Not

unless they come up with something like the Vespa MP3 that still leans, I doubt I will ever have a trike.. to me it it doesn't lean it is not the same, and I might as well be driving my Jeep Wrangler with the top down. Also I worry about trikes in general. As we all know, most of your stopping power in an emergency is the front brake. All the tirkes except the new CanAm (which does not come with all touring bells and whistles or comfort) you end up adding a lot of weight but no more braking power or front rubber to the road for traction. I wonder how well can these things actually stop?

  20. I actually prefer the looks of the Goldwing, but could not get myself to spend that kind of money for a bike that was not as comfortable, and didn't come with a 5 year warranty. I wouldn't mind fuel injection, but not really a big deal to me. What I do like about the 'Wing is the quieter air bubble, and ABS option. But not for $6K more.
  21. I don't see the belt as a bad thing,, lighter weight, better power delivery efficiency, no oil, and very little maintenance. I can't find just how long they last but I would think 50K.
  22. I only live 70 miles away, I will be there at least one day.
  23. Actually the newest owners manual is also available in PDF, right from the Yamaha website if you register in the MyStar section.
  24. The government doesn't warn or advise people in the US, but any tire over 6 years old, no matter how long it has been on the vehicle, should be replaced.
  25. Ha,, that's funny!! but seriously, 10 year old technology is not the same as a 10 year old bike. HD Ultras go for $21k and they have an air cooled pushrod engine. that is 100+ year old technology. If and when Yamaha does finally upgrade the Venture it will cost as much as the rest of them. Will it really be worth it? Not to me as long as my bike is still under warranty, and maybe not even after it is not on warranty if it is still running good.
