LOL... could you keep anything "up" after that ??

LOL... just remembered the stupidest thing I ever done (as if the other one wasn't...) Had this 58 Dodge 2door that I was re-doing. Had the interior gutted and had the steering wheel off. Had to go somewhere and get some parts so I placed an old pop bottle crate in for a seat and jammed the steering wheel onto the shaft and off I went ... here comes a bend in the street and as I go to make the turn, the steering wheel comes off... here's the car... going straight and me trying to turn it with the steering wheel, in my hand, not connected to anything!! LMAO... so I jamb the steering wheel back onto the shaft and crank the steering, forgetting I'm sitting on a loose pop crate... yup... next thing I know, I'm heading for the floor, still trying to steer the car. Luckily by this time I'd slowed down a lot and had the sense to tromp on the binders otherwise I'm sure I woulda wound up in somebody's yard...or worse!

What I find stupid about all of this is that the final assembly of the bike prior to delivery is really the last stage of the manufacturing process. It's referred to as "pre-delivery preparation". Since it is a dealer who does this part, and they are a certified Yamaha shop, then Yamaha should automatically assume responsibility (to the customer) if it's not done right, fix the danged thing and then go after the dealer, after the fact. Unfortunately in this case, the dealer closed shop but that is irrelevant insofar as it pertains to the buyer of the bike. Has anyone ever heard of a cage or any other vehicle under warranty where the owner has had to go back to the original dealership because of some issue that was not done right during pre-delivery. Big time B/S as far as I'm concerned. Thankfully they owned up to it and are gonna do something about it but like as stated in another post here... we the customer should not have to fight and argue over this kind of thing.

On our route home from Venture West III we were coming thru Yosemite Nat'l park. Slow, twisty, narrow road all the way. Older couple with their older friends in front of us ... poking along at about 1/2 the speed limit which I think is about 30 mph .... I kept looking for an opportunity to pass as he just wasn't gonna stop and let me by (no shoulders to pull over) so we came around a left corner and I was ready... it was, like most of the others, an "S" but I figgured I had enuf room to get by if I cranked it hard... which I did ... a little bit too hard and just as I got my front end out and we were passing the old guy, here comes a car around the other bend and by this time, my speed was almost too fast and I really had to lean into it...even Nina was leaning.... we barely made it ... our tires came within inches of that oncoming car's tires and I figgure if both of us hadn't leaned into that corner, we would have not been here today to tell about it. That's one.... how many others am I allowed?

heh ... c'mon Don... let's hear 'em all

I put the 130 tire on the front to accomplish basically the same result; however, I'm not happy with the way the smaller tire handles on the highway. It's good in the twisties, much better than the stock 150 but it tends to make the bike feel unstable on the straights where the road has a lot of high/low grouves... like where the truckers tire grouves are. This winter I'm putting a 150 back on and installing the levelling links. I had recently thought we'd sell the bike and buy a Wing but long-range finance goals would be compromized so the RSV will be staying around for a while.

I think I'm in agreement ... but I wouldn't move just to find out. (I do have memories of what that was like ... didn't like it much neither)

Those are not crash bars, their an airfoil ... -
yeah ... I'm taking my time on this as I got until next spring to make the move. Having said that, I can save a lot on tax by trading the Venture locally because ya only pay it on the difference and if I can find a deal where I'm not paying much difference, I'll probably do as good as buying stateside and importing it.

wait till yer a little older sonny .... :rasberry:

Not sure how the math works (plus or minus) without trying it but remember, our gallons are bigger than yours (I think).

With the Cross Country, there is a slight comparison to the Vision in the styling...albeit "slight". It does look more modern coz if you look at what other manufacturers, even Yamaha, are doing as well as the aftermarket suppliers, the styling of the Cross Country is right "in there". The only part of it that, to me, looks a bit "off" is the large crash bars. Having said that, it is one thing that gives it it's unique styling and is something I could easilly live with. I've looked them over very closely in the showroom, sat on them, had Nina sit behind me, tilted it this way and that.... that part alone impressed me. I like it. The Vision on the other hand, nope, don't like it but yanno what?? ... Victory is IMHO setting a trend ... they are doing today what Chrysler did with the mini-van and the K-car, mark my words. Oh, and if you haven't seen their diamond cut job on (not sure of the model) fins, go take a close look.... it is very impressive, not to mention their awesome paint schemes! -
I lived in Calgary for 8 years. If it wasn't hail, it was snow and we got some of it every month of at least one year. I remember one year during the Calgary Stampede it was cold and miserable most of the time and I think that was that particular year. I hated the weather around there although, just like here in Vancouver, when it got nice, it was REALLY NICE! "when" being the operative word.

I "will" ....To my long-lost twin brother, and before any other disbursements of my estate, I bequeath all my debts to him. ...To everyone else ... sorry, I have nothing left.

Only part way?? didn't you have another "session" up here ??

Since Nina & I have made the decision to sell our RSMV and buy a Wing, I'm probably going to have some questions now and then so here's a couple (did I say "probably"? ) ... We're considering model years 2001-2004 (price dictates this) and am currently looking seriously at an '03 with 66,000 kilometers on it. What kind of gas mileage can I expect? Can handlebar risers be bought for them and where?

just take a ride down any highway and you should be able to fill that box up with HD parts in no time... (now guyz... don't be takin no offense coz I'm just joshin ... I happen to lik...*cough* *cough* ... like Harleys )
-
Ditto what Randy said .... I wonder if those Harley buddies were running in 6th gear or did they drop it down to 5th or even 4th to pass?? Ya gotta drive these Yammies the way they were meant to be driven... their power is at higher revvs than those V-twins so drop her down a gear and crank it on next to them HD buddies and you'll soon see the difference as you're looking at them in your mirrors.

I have found the cure .... I am selling my RSMV and buying a Wing. It will go into the classifieds towards the end of Sept as we have our holiday trip to take on it yet... unless I can find a great deal on a Wing / trade-in before Sept 4th LOL Frankly, I/we will miss this beautiful bike but looks aren't everything that's important anymore ....
