1. Less than one week and Nina & I are off on 2 weeks vacation also. Your vacation sounds kinda boring tho compared to ours.... we're going to SASKATCHEWAN!!! :rotf: about the boring LOL Actually Sask is our turn-around point and we're stopping over there to visit Nina's mom. We'll be pullin our trailer and camping most of the time and will be travelling thru the US on the return route. Have an awesome and safe holiday! Here's our "route" ...
2. ya ... I like to do that sometimes... just coz. It's always interesting to read folk's responses. One thing tho... I'm not tryin to PO anyone or get anyone's feathers ruffled ... just throwin my thoughts out there to see what comes back.
3. Here's mine ... Not overly "fancy" but is functional and works for me....
4. heh.... and I'm wondering now what it's like at 125 mph when NOT loaded correctly??
5. Lookin purdy good there bud!!! I for one know how much work goes into that! Can't wait to see it all back together an in person!
6. I came here over 4 years ago for info about my '87 that I'd recently bought .... got addicted to the members and their good natured hospitality ... now they can't seem to get rid of me LOL heck, I've even met a few...more than once... amazing!
7. So I got this trailer now to pull behind the scoot. It has those little 8" wheels ... can anyone tell me how much air I should maintain in them?? (I'm talkin air PRESSURE ... not volume LOL)
8. hey Jack... I hear ya man... had to turn on the damned furnace last night it wa so chilly... although today turned out nice and warm... like about 20 celcius (68 F)... woooohoooo .... sure glad I had my sunscreen on and stayed in the shade all day! LOL
9. I'm looking at your clip and from what I can see... oh wait... where's the engine Oil ... I don't see it... OK, as per V7Goose's post, I was looking at a downloaded copy so I went and got my manual out of my bike and.... (humble apologies), you're right... every 4,000 miles for the ENGINE oil .... BUT... that just makes my point about changing the rear drive oil more valid as it does say every 16,000 miles so, those who are changing it at 4,000 mile intervals are doing it unnecessarilly AND, as per my other point, if they are seeing BLACK oil that smells BURNT, then there is a PROBLEM...
10. Guys, seems some are getting off topic... my post was primarilly related to the rear drive.... NOT the engine oil.
11. And you're suggesting that I don't "ride" my bike from zero to 6000 miles??? c'mon .... how do you think it get's 6000 miles on it? ... sitting on a stand?
12. I'm looking at the Yamaha owner's manual.
13. You didn't read my post very well, did you?? The truth is, the MAX mileage interval that I've changed oil (and filter as I change the filter every time I change the oil) is 5600 KILOMETERS. I am worse than most of you guys according to that LMAO! BTW, you ain't gonna get my bike. (I knew I'd stir this pot LOL)
14. As a followup to at least one other thread, I thought I'd stir the pot a bit because I just don't see the point of "over maintenance". Specifications for the RSV say... change oil @ 8,000 miles (13,000 kilometers) and change final drive oil @ 16,000 miles (25,000 kilometers). So, that means every second oil change, change the final drive oil. Some folks here feel it necessary to change their oil sooner... 3,000 miles, 5,000 miles ... overkill in my book ... "old school mentality". Some folks here also feel that, since they are changing their oil, why not change the final drive oil as well. To me, that is a waste of time and money. At least one person stated that, when they changed their final drive fluid (at the same time as changing their oil), it was BLACK and smelled BURNT. Now, assuming their changing their oil at the 8,000 mile mark (or sooner), then to you I say "you have a problem with your final drive" because under normal circumstances (and even at 16,000 miles intervals) it should NOT be black and smell burnt. I last changed my final drive oil at 18,852 kilometers. (Yes it was done at the 1,000 km service). I changed it again today at 28,076 kilometers (a difference of 9224 km or 5,730 miles) and well before the recommended interval of 16,000 miles. Here is a picture of what it looks like. As you can see, the old oil is definately not black and I can tell you that is certainly does not smell burnt. In fact, it looks perfectly normal to me. My point(s) here being... If you are changing your final drive oil at every oil change and that is at 8,000 miles or less, then you're wasting your time and money. Do you have your differential oil in your car/truck changed at every oil change??? (I think not) Then why not I ask...if you do it on your bike... why be different with your cage? If you're changing your final drive oil at every oil change and that is at 8,000 miles or less, and it is coming out smelling BURNT and is BLACK then something is WRONG and you need to find out what that is. Everyone is entitled to doing their "own thing" and I'm not discrediting anyone for that but quite frankly, I really don't see your reasoning for changing oil at 1/2 (or less than) the recommended intervals. Having said all of the above, I hereby admit to changing not only my bikes engine oil & filter but also my final drive oil at considerably less intervals than what is recommended. (WTF..???) :witch_brew:
15. I road-tested an '03 Wing at a Honda dealer's about a week ago. They were asking $12,999. While I was out, they checked my scoot over and upon return, offered me 5 grand for it on a trade-in. Told 'em they were only 1/2 of what I expected. They tried to tell me the Yammi shop was selling new RSV's for $14,000. Don't think so, I said, thanked them for their time and left... to the Yammi shop where they have a new '09 RSV...for $17,900. It was obvious they really didn't want my trade.
16. Right-click on the red "x" and see if you get a choice for downloading the pic(s) actually, I got them too and can't view... they are probably linked to his own computer or something like that or the thumbnails are not named properly, etc
17. I wonder if there is a similar forum to this for Victory Motorcycles... maybe this whole thing should be on that site...??
18. in one word.... YES! I am 63, weigh appx 155 lbs, been riding for as long as you have although I've been riding the bigger style touring bikes for many years but considering your size and that you say you're in pretty good shape, you should have no problem. It may take you a bit of practise to get used to the size and weight and handling characteristics tho but you will. Once you become "one" with the RSV, I'm sure you both will love it.
19. how true... a little "off topic" but when getting gas today, the card reader on the pump wouldn't take my Save-On More Rewards Points card... yet the other pumps at the same gas station do. So I asked the clerk "why" ... who really had no good answer and I commented "nobody seems to have an answer for this" His come-back.... "hey man, I don't get paid to have these answers...all I get is minimum wage so I just do what I have to" I left without saying another word...wasn't worth the effort to say what I was thinking.
20. just an fyi ... the color of the oil (and especially gear lube that's 80/90 wt) has nothing to do with it's ability to lubricate. The fact that it is black does not necessarilly mean it is "dirty". You can put clean oil into almost any engine, take it out for a spin and by the time you're back, it will look black. Everyone is entitled to their choices and opinions but IMHO, changing the final drive oil every time you change the engine oil is just overkill ... a waste of time and money.
21. To answer... He's referring to the part that involves having a few buddies over and downing a few brewskys while ya'll take turns discussing the pros and cons of oil types and methods of replacing the filter.
22. watch it Jack .. I'll sic Nina on ya ... wait, never mind, you'd prolly like that LMAO ... eh
23. Yes, I realized that afterwards ... got my left and right mixed up ... so I deleted my post LOL
