Don't feel so bad Brian.... we're having weather/temp swings around here too .... like yesterday, today, and tomorrow it's sunny and we're SUFFERING with lows of -4 celcius and highs of ONLY +4 celcius. Last week it was RAIN with lows of +5 and highs of +10 celcius.... and apparently we're going back to that by the weekend. I am getting so distraught over these ever-changing weather patterns.... either it's sunny and too cold to ride or it's warm enough but pouring rain!!! ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Yesterday morning when I was waking up, I could hear this "beeping" sound. Definately not a sound that I'd normally hear and it was inconsistent. At first, I thought I was still dreaming as the sound seemed "far away". As I slowly woke up, I realized I wasn't dreaming so I got up and went looking for the source of the sound .... I found it in the garage. It was my GPS ... crap! I thought... why is that on?? I discovered, after running the scoot for a while on Sunday that I'd left the key on and in so doing, totally drained the battery. Crap!!! I'd just charged it all up the day before, now I have to do it again.... probably not a good thing for this 2 yr old battery... but we'll see.... For a while I couldn't figgure out how I'd managed to leave the key on .... then it dawned on me... I flipped it on after shutting the bike off to see if the fan was coming on and forgot to flip it off again .... DOH Last Friday, I forgot to put my bottom teef (teeth) in and didn't realize it until I was part way enroute to work. Now, this is not like me at all ... I'm a "spectacles testicles wallet watch" person ... (guess I better add "teef" to that... ) Other examples....I also find that I can't remember jokes anymore. I stumble when trying to remember names of actors I should never be forgetting. etc, etc The whole point of all of this is .... are the years finally catching up to me? .... is my mind starting to falter? .... am I losing my mind? aarrrrggghhhhhhhhhh.... I'm growing OLD!!! :crying: (dang, hope I don't have to buy a new ....... what??)

Another way to look at it... regardless if you're up-shifting or down-shifting, if you use the heel-toe shifter, you're stepping DOWN in BOTH CASES.... a much easier thing to do.
-
but Rick, you're still young and climbing the proverbial ladder .... by the time you get to 50 you'll be eons ahead of a lot of us... probably be retired!
-
ditto that !

There's a certain amount of truth to that; however, most folks equate that kind of education with schooling such as University or College, etc. Personally, I am self-taught in the IT field and although it took me almost 20 years of hands-on learning, I now have a job where I basically sit at a computer all day and chat in there here forum and get paid for it ...

but just think ... you wouldn't be using the heel shifter today
-
To give an "real" answer, I wouldn't do a thing differently. The person I am today is a result of my past and, although some might disagree (cough, cough), ... I figgure I turned out pretty good! (let the jabbing begin...)

My bike had a right-angle valve stem on the rear when I got it. It pointed towards the left side and since that's the side the bike leans to when stopped and on the side-stand, I found I had to lay down on the ground to put air in ... a real PITA. So, when I put a new tire on, I moved the thing to point to the right ... well, I don't have to lay down anymore but it's still a PITA due to the brake rotor making it a tighter fit to get at. Right-angle or not... a PITA. It was easier on my 1st gen...but I think that was because I could set it on the centre-stand.

Until I got my RSMV 2 years ago, I never rode a bike with heel-toe shifter other than a Harley during demo days. At first, I used only the toe shift while at the same time, "played" with using the heel shift. At first I didn't like it and seemed to have a hard time "finding" the heel shift. After about a month tho, I found I was getting onto it pretty good and before long, I could find it without even thinking. As for the advantage, firstly I find I can up-shift quicker and more positively using the heel. Secondly, due to how my highway pegs are mounted, I have less room to get the toe of my boot under the forward shifter. Is it worth the effort???... I think that's a matter of personal choice. My advice is try it for a while until you get used to it... then try going back and see how that feels. As a "side note", this is also the first bike I've ridden with floor boards and that plus the heel-toe shift was all a bit "strange" at first. Took me a while to stop from catching the edge of the floorboard with my heel when I went to plant my foot on the ground....almost caused me to dump the bike a couple times.

George, I went to the ebay link you posted and it shows (or appears to) that it's free shipping, even to Canada. Did you have to pay shipping? How long did it take for the item to arrive?
