Seafoam Side Effects
leo3wheel replied to Bobby G's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On initial applications have seen white smoke come from our RSV and Dodge Hemi. It goes away with use. -
Not funny to me...... I like Elvis.

Yes, Road to Hana would be a great ride on a M/C!
-
Wishing you a great time Jeff! The Big Island is a great place to ride.

New front tire, 40 psi in front tire, and 4 psi in front shocks...........

It does take some time to get used to a trike. Initially, there is a feeling that you can tip over when cornering, but it will not happen. Important to stiffen up the front end to reduce the outward lean of the trike when cornering. Even though trikes are steered, not leaned, I feel better leaning my body to the inside of hard curves. This feels natural. With practice, trikers are able to sight many obstacles between the front wheel and one of the rear wheels. Of course, large obstacles cannot be avoided, best to slow down and loosen up your grip on the handlebars. With the stiff front end on our trike, there is some impact, but there is little head shake. One great feature of trikes is stability. Over the weekend, I made a u-turn on a narrow road and ended up driving on a heavily rutted dirt shoulder. No problem, drove like an ATV. Another time, I was in a narrow dead end road, and we needed to turn around. I simply drove up the grass bank and let the trike roll backwards to face the opposite direction. On the highways, 18-wheelers pass us, and our trike doesn't flinch. Feel very safe on our trike knowing it will not fall over. Love our trike!

FYI, I put that much fuel in our auxilliary tank today, even though Hannigan advertises 4 Gals.

Jay, You should do as I did. The two E-Z Steer set screws rust. Used a Q-Tip to apply Rust Eater, and later, apply glossy black paint. Looks much better.

They are not Canadian Geese. They are American Canada Geese.

You would think the trike mechanic would torgue down the bearings when he installs E-Z Steer. After all, they tear down the fork and reassemble it. Must be part of the procedure.

Me too........ Love it!

Another comment on the front wheel wobble of a trike. If the front end is raked, then a significant amount of weight is transferred to the rear wheels. This is why raked trikes are easier to steer. Someone on the trike forum reported that a GL1800 filled with fuel shifted 170 lbs to the rear wheels. This weight shift will change the front end dynamics of a trike.

I have heard the same thing. Now that our front end is set up, we get no wobble, so it makes no difference how I hold the bars. It is important to stiffen up the front end. It will make negotiating highway ramps easier, and trike will not lean to the outside of high speed turns.

We do not have progressive fork springs on our trike. Have not noticed that our front end dives. Our front end is very stiff. As for steering, our front end is light with E-Z Steer. Between E-Z Steer and a rear tire up front, have not noticed any difficulties traveling crowned roads. I would dread cornering at highway speeds when we had a front tire at 35 psi and forks set at 0 psi. Now our front is stiff, and I can set cruise control at 70 mph and never worry about making turns. Rode to the Florida Keys and back and ride handled great, even in the mountains. Our rear tire up front also only lost 1/32" out of 11/32" in almost 4,000 miles. I will not change anything.

When we first got our Hannigan conversion, we had severe head shake on large bumps. Now have a rear tire up front, 40 psi in tire and 4 psi in front shocks. Touched nothing else. We have no more head shake. Of course, front is stiff.

It is one image of the world that I cropped. Use: http://www.travbuddy.com/travel-widgets to create a world map. Take a screen snapshot. Paste snapshot into Paint. Save Paint file as a JPEG file. Edit JPEG file by cropping image until you get what you want.
-
Cool, we can do the whole world as one image and crop it as desired.
-
You can copy the two images into Paintbrush and save the composite as a JPEG file.

Thanks Jay!

Our trike was built the summer of 2010. Our rear brakes work fine, and the rotors are not scored. The squealing is just annoying. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Russ, We live in Cranford. I just got back from the Florida Keys ride on Tuesday. The weather was beautiful down there. Keep telling Jeannette that I feel cold.......
-
Hmm... We will be at Maggie Valley, NC in June. A side trip to Nashville, TN and Murray, KY sounds inviting. Would like to visit the Hannigan factory.

Our rotors are cast, and rear brakes squeal quite often. There is no scoring of the rotors. The squeal has been there since our trike was very young. Hannigan dealer insinuated that I glazed the rear brakes, and I would have to pay to have them replaced. I certainly would not pay them for the same type of brake material. Are your SS rotors and hard pads quiet? Would be a pain to replace our brakes after only 10,000 miles.
