  1. I will not be able to commit to any lodging unless I'm able to cancel at the last minute.
  2. .......and why not March 26-29? Afraid if we go too early I may have to bail out due to bad weather.
  3. Yes, I will be on our 09 Hannigan RSV trike. Appreciate you trying to save me a night in a motel, but I would prefer to break the trip up a bit. That way, I will not have two back-to-back 500 mile days. I just ordered my Utopia backrest. The make and ship date is Jan 23. That gives me plenty of time to install it. Also want to install my new luggage rack. Believe my front tire is adequate for this trip. I may order a tire to have it onhand. Should also do an oil change. bike is still young and in good shape. I have no problems following your stop schedule. Our trike has an auxilliary fuel tank, so I carry 11 gallons total. Should have no problem following your schedule. Will you pre-book motel rooms or will we look for motel rooms according to progress made? Any more thoughts about the dates? Thanks!
  4. Sounds like I should leave on Thursday, so I can arrange for three moderate legs before the 500 mile push to Fort Lauderdale. Better get that driver backrest that I've wanted.
  5. That would be fine with me. Safety in numbers............
  6. Brake Pad, You are correct. We may want to break our trip up more to allow for stops and slower speeds. If CaptainJoe and I are both retired, then we can plan a more relaxed trip. When I went to a WV ride-along in October, I took two days to get there. It was nice to only have daytime driving and time for an early dinner. Prefer to do most MC riding in the daylight. It would be bad to hit a critter in the dark. I'm open to ideas.
  7. Looks like mileage from Pulaski, VA to Savannah, GA is 6 hrs 20 mins / 393.24 miles. Guess we could meet on my second day, your first day, and ride to Savannah. I would be a little closer. If my wife flies to Fort Lauderdale, then I would need to pick her up on the way by. Likewise, I would have to drop her off on the way back. Other than that, it looks like smooth cruising. Does this sound too agressive a schedule? Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  8. Actually, I attended a WV Ride-Along in October, and it is better for me to take I81 up north. Looks like my route would be I78, I81, I77, I26 and I95. I81 joins I77 between Pulaski and Wytheville, VA. Mileage to Pulaski, VA is 8 hrs / 487.20 miles. It's a good day's ride for me to get to Pulaski, VA. We could meet where I81 and I77 meet. We just need a meeting place. Looks like we can travel more than 2/3 of the way together.
  9. Captainjoe, It would be nice if I could hook up with another bike or bikes to travel some part of I95 to Florida. If you or anyone else would like to join up, please let me know. Thanks!
  10. Interesting idea... My wife has some concerns because she has never met you. It definitely would lessen her ride. Air fares are not too bad right now. Wife also has concerns about me traveling alone. It would be nice if I can hook up with someone heading south as a companion. Let's get the dates and then see what can be worked out. Thanks!
  11. Well, scratch that idea then. Still want to go......
  12. Retired and really interested in this trip. Live in NJ, and my wife is resisting traveling that far. Will most likely have to travel alone. The last week of March or first week of April are best for us folks up north. Would also prefer to avoid spring breaks, if possible. Anxiously awaiting further updates.
  13. Based on what everyone was saying, I assumed our 09 RSV reported on the high side. So I always drove a little faster, right. Well, we had our bike triked, and I continued to drive on the high side. I hooked up a GPS one day for a trip and found that reported speed was right on the money. Either problem was fixed by 09 or Hannigan fixed the discrepancy when they did the trike conversion. Glad I discovered that.........
  14. There must be an optical illusion, because the RSV is 104.5 inches long and the Ultra 98.6. Sure looks like more than that in the picture. http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smilies/humm_smilie.gif
  15. ??? Retirement activities make me tired, but no way am I getting tired of retirement.
  16. Hope the recall was applied to your bike.........
  17. I cannot move the trunk back on our 09 RSV trike, but many folks have done so on the other forum I belong to. Everyone seems real happy with the extra passenger room. Wish I could do it on our trike. CAUTION: Yamaha had a recall. Anyone who has a 1999 or 2000 RSV needs to make sure the trunk mount kit was installed, and inspect for cracks on the trunk floor. Posting: After owning my bike for 9 years and logging nearly 80k miles, I did not know until the recent WV Ride that our trunks were set-up to allow for an alternate mounting location that would give the passenger about an extra 1" of room away from the rider. Anyway, this afternoon I did this and took some photos for others who maybe did not know this. First, remove the foam trunk liner: http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/foam.jpg This photo shows the 6 screws that need to be removed to separate the ABS trunk from the trunk frame. A 4mm hexx wrench is needed to remove these. http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/trunkscrews.jpg After removing the screws, carefully lift the back of the ABS trunk off of the frame. Be careful not to pull too hard. Don't not try to lift the trunk completely off the frame as there are cables attached for CB and radio. You could disconnect the cables to remove the trunk completely but there is no need for this project. http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/trunk_lift.jpg Most likely, a rubber spacer will be attached to the rear of the ABS trunk. Gently remove that from the trunk. It is held by double sided tape. After removing, lay the rubber spacer over the chrome frame as shown below. Also, while working under here, it would be a great time to clean and polish those areas which are normally out of sight and out of mind. http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/trunk_remove_spacer.jpg http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/trunk_spacer.jpg As you look at the chrome trunk frame, you will see three holes at the front mounts, and two on the rear. See photos. To move the trunk back about 1" and increase passenger room, simply move the trunk back to the alternate mounting holes. http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/front_brackets.jpg http://www.macesoftware.com/Venturous/rear_mounts.jpg Now you will notice on the factory mounting location, nuts are welded to the frame. To use the alternate mounting location, you will need to add your own nut. Tighten the 6 screws to 58 in-lbs After attaching the trunk to the frame using alternate location, simple replace the foam liner and you are done!
  18. Welcome, The trunk on the 2nd Gen Venture can be moved back an inch providing even more passenger comfort. There is a second set of holes in the trunk.
