  1. I sprayed either around the carb boots...no difference in idle
  2. Gotta wonder in places where helmets are manditory. Would just the driver need one....or those in the rumble seats? Can't imagine inside needed any...but then....it IS a trike! Hmmmmmm?
  3. So here's the story relating to my 88. When I first got it I needed 1/2 choke just to keep it running. MARCARL and I cleaned out every oriface possible with the carbs still on the bike with carb cleaner and compressed air. We set it up best he could and since then I have seafoamed it with a very strong mixture overnight a few times, and add several ounces every 3-4 tanks. Once in a while I put in a heavier dose . It's had at least 8-10 cans thru it. I had a case of a sticky float (I think)on the #3 carb earlier this year as gas was pouring out the overflow tube. But it "fixed" itself when I tapped on the carb body with the handle of a screwdriver (I was on the side of the road at the time). Again...dosed with seafoam and it seemed to be OK for quite a while. Now I'm smelling gas (no overflow) and the idle usually but not always wants to hang up around 2500 rpm. What messes me up is that occasionally it is just fine! (900-1000) I"m finding I don't need any choke to start it. I bought a 2nd carb rack (minus diaphragms and sliders) and I have diaphragms and the basic VMAX ebay carb kit. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Even changing out the carb rack would be a major undertaking for my wrenching comfort level so I'd like to wait for off season to do that.
  4. Well this all confirms the fact I'm getting lousy gas mileage. I"m getting about 135 miles to a tank. I've got to get at those carbs but I don't want to stop riding long enough to get it done.
  5. Don't worry, I'm sure it will all work out in the end! Been there...done that... not so bad. I watched the screen....looked like silk!
  6. Guess I'm 165....nothing to add....just wanted to be 165. We all have different ambitions after all!
  7. You just need a thin walled deep socket.....and maybe a wife with small hands! It's a learning experience for sure.
  8. Kind of makes you wonder if Trail Members should be allowed to READ ONLY. I'm sure it would avoid nonsense like this. Once they see the type of technical support, the good natured friends etc etc then they can pay the dues and actually ask questions.
  9. I think you can tell you are out of line with that question! THANK YOU!!!! Now I know I'm not the only one who put their foot in their mouth!!!! But pretty much everyone has said it. I've got VERY limited mechanical abilities...sometimes I find it hard to see what others may think is the obvious...but Marcarl, Skydoc17, Dingy, Thirdbike, and a whole lot of other folks have helped me to: change my clutch plates and springs, clutch slave cyl. put in progressive springs and new steering head bearing, fix my cruise control, change the fuse block, get rid of the flashing battery warning, repair (It had elec. tape over it when I bought it!) and probably a few other odd jobs I can't think of. I have saved money on parts purchases, stayed over at members homes, enjoyed free camping and had hours and hours of entertainment! I was able to view riding training videos', get valuable opinions on purchases and "meet" (even if not physically) good friends from several countries. $12 a year? Don could triple it and I'd still be a member! (but don't tell him I said so!)
  10. I DID remove the triple tree....the top half of the bottom bearing was jammed in the steering tube, frame, neck whatever you want to call it. I couldn't get an edge on it to hammer it out as it seemed to be designed to nicely fit into a nook in the neck. I had to cut it out. Now don't try to tell me there is no nook in the neck! I don't speak Eskimo!
  11. It just shows to go ya! Rock and Roll really IS here to stay!
  12. I saw the subject line "new TIKE and new grandson" and thought maybe you were repeating yourself! That is a cute little Tike, and the bike is nice too!
  13. I meant the tube or frame the triple tree fits into. I've always known it as the neck. So certainly can't work on that on the bench! It was hard to see what was frame and what was bearing race and I ended up cutting too deep!
  14. Thanks for the support Carl.....I think!
  15. Now they say (a different dealer) the catalytic converters are plugged up from the computer causing a misfire for so long. Another $2100. :mo money: That's about 1/2 the value of the vehicle I've spent now. But what can you do? I'm so far in now I can't afford to scrap it and buy another car.
  16. So not only did I insult Miles...but I highjacked the thread! Was the 2 nitro tanks for bursts of speed (how fast?) or does it add mpg? (is so how much)?
  17. There was a thread (I couldn't find it again until after I posted this) where a member claimed a seemingly unbelievable distance travelled in a 24 hour period. I did some research and I was convinced that the truth was being stretched. I called him out and basically called him a liar. (I called "BS") He was good enough to PM me with details and collaborating evidence proving that he certainly did accomplish that amazing ride! So...once again I find myself apologizing for shooting my mouth off. Miles, I am very sorry to have insulted you and for publicly casting doubt on your word. You know....I really am a nice guy! I just seem to hide it well.
  18. FWIW..... mine (88) will work in 4th or 5th (never tried in in 3rd) When I engage it it always seems slower than the SET speed so I have to hold the ACCEL for a few seconds to get it up the the desired speed. Mine doesn't kick out with the clutch pulled...but it does for the brakes.
  19. OK....First let me say I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt....BUT..... I wondered about this because you would have had to AVERAGE over 90 mph for each of the "under" 24 hours. Unless you are on a track how is that possible? That got me to wondering so I did a bunch of reading because The thought of these marathon rides is intriguing. On his profile on the IBA web site, Iron Butt Association President, Michael Kneebone is noted as "setting the 24 hour endurance record of 1,704 miles in 24 hours" yet you claim to beat that by over 450 miles. Here is a link to the Guiness world record holder. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-2000/greatest-distance-on-a-motorcycle-in-24-hours-(individual)/ In case the link isn't working...it says... "The longest distance riding a motorcycle in 24 hours is 3,249.9 km (2,019.4 miles) and was achieved by L. Russell "Rusty" Vaughn (USA) at the Continental Tire Test Track, Uvalde, Texas, USA, between 9 and 10 August 2011. Mr. Vaughn used his own personal 2010 Harley-Davidson FLHTK Electra-Glide Limited for the attempt and completed 238 laps of the test track. But you beat that distance by 139 miles! Another site is called "World Record Academy" here's the link to the site: http://www.worldrecordsacademy.org/travel/greatest_distance_on_motorcycle_in_24_hours-world_record_set_by_Omar_Al_Mamari_90263.htm Again...in case the link doesn't work..... Wednesday, July 1, 2009 Greatest Distance on Motorcycle in 24 Hours-world record set by Omar Al Mamari MUSCAT, Sultanate of Oman -- Omar Al Mamari, 36, drove on his Honda CBR 1100 bike from the Oman Automobile Association premises in Muscat to the city of Salalah which is 1031 kms south (640.634 miles) and returned back the same way averaging a speed of 94.1 km and covering a total of 2062 kms ( 1281.267 Miles) in 24 hours-setting the world record for the Greatest Distance on Motorcycle in 24 Hours (individual). I agree this doesn't seem like all that great a record! but again...you claim 875 miles more So....I"m sorry....but again....I have to call BS!
  20. Well, I changed the plugs, coils and found a used PCM for $689 after taxes. The dealer charged me $112 to program the computer. So, It cost me: $250 to diagnose $600 for plugs and coils $689 for used PCM $112 for programming 2 X tow truck (Thank goodness for CAA!) Total cost: $1651 AND IT LASTED ALMOST A WHOLE DAY!!!!!!!! I had to tow it to the shop after I got stranded at the side of the road. It seemed as if it had less power right from the start...but as the day progressed it seemed like less and less...until it wouldn't even run. So it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and put a new PCM in it. $1200 plus taxes = $1356:crying:
  21. Just be real careful when you cut out the lower race that you don't go too deep and cut into the neck itself! It's hard to tell what's what in there! Don't ask how I know!
  22. Better than a clunky car and winny wife!
  23. Now Dan...you aren't like Some people are you? You know! Some people get 4 x 4 Pickups, raise them up so you need a step ladder to get into them, put on bush guards, skid pans, monster tires, 2 ton power winch, and roll bars but the only time they are ever off road is when they park them on the front lawn to sell them! ATV's are meant to have fun on! To go places you can't go with a truck. Unless you are "some people"...they WILL get scratches....maybe even a few cracks in that shiny plastic....but you WILL have fun!
  24. So what are you retiring FROM?
