    I just finished my restore project on my 86 Venture yesterday {pics to follow} took it for a ride last night, big grin on my face.... happy camper So this morning at 4:45 AM I am getting on the bike to ride to work, trip on the backrest and tip the bike over ... WTF! no damage, just rested on the guards but it sure is heavy to pick up! Does this mean I owe $5 to the fund, or is this a "gimme"? Cheers, Gary

    I am just now reassembling my 86 VR after much TLC over the winter. Question: has anyone left the black air dampers off the engine? {just on top of the valve covers}. Any reason to use them? I want to thank all the technical contributers here for their work, it has helped alot on my project! The list.... removed fairings and fixed all the plastic cracks with epoxy and "glass,and repainted fixed class computer rebuilt the suspension/bushings with the zerks, lubed shaft etc removed the stereo/cb and all related components and replaced the plastic covers with stock non-VR parts [about 30 lbs of stuff} replaced the seat with aftermarket {bought used from here} replaced fork seals and front brakes replaced the pipes with new Macs {bought here} adjusted valves,tuned,carbsync etc I only rode the bike once after buying it last fall... so I am itching to get going!     The Wife and I wanted to get some warm/sun this weekend,checked out Vegas,Arizona,California etc, BUT we are warmer than all of them, {although not sunny} Decided to stay home and go boating. Oh, and our flowere are all up and starting to bloom.... gotta love Victoria BC ! {take that Texas} (:

    I bought a "stock" seat cover off ebay {new} for $35. The seller has about every seat cover you can imagine,even really old bikes etc. I don't have the link with me {at work} but will look it up later and post it.....

    Yes, my bike has 57000km's on it.... I am also installing grease Zerks while I have it apart. I will post any mods I do to the bushings {will probably just buy the oem plastic ones } but I have not decided yet. Do the new bikes have the same bushing set up? Cheers

    Hey everybody, I just removed my rear wheel to lube/inspect my new-to-me 86 Venture. I found the bushings on the suspension links completely dry and corroded. I also found the plastic inter- bushings worn out. Has anyone used anything other than the teflon bushings to re-bush the links? I can still order the teflon ones from Bike Bandit but they are $24 each {6 required}... Thanks for any help! ps I am sure these have never been lubed..... things we should check on old bikes...

    Hey there, my mufflers on my 86 Venture are rusting out... anybody have a good set of used ones for sale?.... I noticed from searching this site that there was a group buy of Mac mufflers a while ago. I went to the Mac website and they do not show any parts available. Any advice on where to get a new slip on set-up if I can't find a used set? thanks for any help Gary

    This sounds like a logical solution to my problem..... on another note, If I take out the control head and CB radio{which I will never use} is there any drop-in filler trays to fill the area in the front fairing? Would be a good place for gloves etc. I think the older basic Ventures just had a plastic cover over a storage bin? cheers, Gary

    Hi there, can anyone recommend a retrofit for the rear air shock and compressor system for the first gen bikes?.... mine is toast and I think I want to just install a quality monoshock and chuck all the old components. thanks for any advice Gary
