  1. Hi guys, I've decided to sell my instrument pod. It's never been installed and it comes with all the parts and pieces which I originally received when I bought it. I have sanded down the pod smooth and had it professionally painted a gloss black with light metallic. It's listed on Ebay 303327404574. Thanks and good luck. Dan
  2. My trailer is finally on it's way to Alaska. A local Venture owner accidentally texted me instead of his son a couple of weeks ago. He was in Tennessee and getting ready to head home to Anchorage. A few texts later and he diceided he would make an attempt to bring it up. He picked it up from Idaho yesterday and is somewhere in Canada today. I should have it on Saturday.
  3. COLOR!!! PRICE!!! Every year they change the color and jack up the price (somebody's got to pay the storage fees on all those parts sitting in Japan since 1999 because they didn't advertise the bike enough to sell them. Now we have to wait until all the parts are gone before they make those changes we all desire. Thank goodness they started forcing the CD players on the new buyers else would have been waiting forever).
  4. Yamaha DS-7 (350cc I think) at age 16. I think the bike was an early 70s.
  5. I have a Scooter Schooner tent trailer at my parent's house in Coeur d'Alene, ID that I need brought to Anchorage, Alaska. This would be ideal for somebody planning to camp on the way up and then taking the ferry back down (to Bellingham, WA). My daughter and I used it on our 8100 mile trip last summer but couldn't get it on the ferry for our trip home.
  6. I rode 8100 miles last summer on my '05 Venture w/Champion Escort sidecar and pulling a Scooter Schooner tent trailer. About 6500 miles into the trip I noticed I could see through the bottom of my rear tire. Oops. I limped from Jackson, WY to Idaho Falls, ID for a tire. I figure I was pulling about 1500 - 1700 pounds on this trip. I had no problems with engine power (or electrical output) until I got bad gas in Durango, CO (the gas station across from the Conoco) and then I went up a 10,600 hill followed by an 11,100 foot hill. I crawled the last 2+ miles up the first hill in first gear babying my clutch. Good bye clutch. I did manage to get the last 1500 miles back to the ferry to Alaska. My advice, the bike will pull what you need it to, watch your rear tire for wear, carry some good gas.
  7. WHAT A WIMP!!!!!!!! We call days like that THURSDAY!! Or is it Monday??? It's so normal I can't remember.
  8. You have to follow through on this. Document everything. Then we will script a new sitcom - kinda of like "Outsourced" but based in America with hard working employees dealing with an Indian (from India) boss who is on assignment to America from his British Border Crossing career. I could go on.....
  9. I own the Scooter Schooner Sundowner model. http://www.scooterschooner.com/ The website seems to be down right now. It has a metal frame with a low-profile fiberglass body. All storage areas can be accessed when set up or when closed up. I can set mine up in about 3 minutes. Just remove the cover, flip it open, then attach 2 exterior poles and adjust the interior poles. It seems the price is $4000 - $4500 new. I bought mine (hardly) used for $2000. It has a removeable entry step, a cooler stand on one side of the interior room and a pull-out box on the other side (to use as a kitchen area). Fold up half of the mattress to expose the table/seating area. I bought a foldup table and camp chairs so as to leave the bed area as is. But I am extra prepared in case of a sunny day. Things to shop for when traveling: collapsible Coleman Battery powered lanterns, small camp stoves, Little Buddy Heater, Port-a-Privy (Cabelas or REI), Coleman folding toilet (there are others but for $28 this is the smallest yet most practical), freeze-dreid meals (cheap and with a 5 year shelf life), folding tire iron/t-bar, GSI cook kits, lighter,....
  10. The only problem I've ever had with my previous mug is that it is too small. Now I have the funds and all these positive reviews so I just ordered the new BIGGER one. Woohoo!!!! Bring on the coffee.
  11. Let me know when you get here. I'll help in any way I can. I might also try to ride with you. When ever I ride north of Anchorage I always fuel up at the Talkeetna turnoff. It's 100 miles out of Anchorage (50-ish miles north of Wasilla). It's open 24 hours and gas there is about 10 cents more than in Anchorage (and that's great compared to everywhere else). Then make sure you go into Talkeetna and eat at the Roadhouse (post meal ice cream at Nagley's). The next stop is the Tesoro just north of Healy. It has the next best gas price on the Parks Hwy and is also open 24 hours. They don't have credit card slots on the gas pumps but the friendly people inside take care of that. They also have free coffee and have just remodeled the interior. A few miles of frost heaves then the road flattens out until Nenana. Then it's through the mountains and into the tanana Valley and Fairbanks (it's a real city with the biggest Fred meyer in the nation - which they are currently expanding). Enjoy!!!
  12. The Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) takes about 3 days from Bellingham, WA to Whittier, AK (just south of Anchorage). It might be faster than the Alcan but you're going to miss out on a lot of the reasons you want to take this trip. Work hard now, save a lot of money, sell needlesss stuff, hoard your childrens inheritance - and come spend some quality time...
  13. slowrollwv makes a really nice set. Search his posts to see a photo or send him a PM.
  14. I warned you about the moose on the Chena road. If you had found me last weekend I could have hooked you up with some free passes to the hotsprings. And how did you like riding between the train tracks for 2+ miles while in the tunnel???? I hope you enjoyed your stay. Did you make it to Talkeetna?
  15. AND, In case you're interested, my STAR group has a scheduled ride to Hope, Ak (70 miles south) on the 4th. More info at www.anchorage299.com. Also, http://www.abateofalaska.com/ is hosting a ride to Homer, Ak on Saturday the 3rd for an overnight campout. The Hoka Hey ride ends in Homer on the 4th and the $500,000 is to be awarded that day. Could be interesting. If you need a motorcycle tent trailer while you're here let me know. I have one sitting in my back yard waiting for an opportunity.
  16. Dude!!!!! Those aren't frost-heaves. They build the road that way and then when the frost causes it to heave it's all level. If you want some real frost-heaves you need to drive from Fairbanks to Chena Hotsprings. Those heaves could throw you off your bike. I think the waterfall you show is called Horse's Tail. There is also Bridal Veil. Both are very pretty. There is also a waterfall you can drive under and wash your bike - but then you wouldn't have a picture for Dave. I won't be in Anchorage until the 5th. I'm leaving Thursday night for Seward for the weekend. On the 4th Seward hosts the Mount Marathon race - 3200 feet up the mountain and back down. Go to www.adn.com on the 5th for story and gory photos. If you make it to Seward on Fri, Sat, or Sun I'll be a block away from the Sealife Center runnning the Pet ID booth. Stop by and I'll give you the highlights. Warning - Traffic on the 4th is crazy. Don't bother passing anybody because you'll only get there one car faster and watch out for the idiots on the Seward Hwy south of Anchorage (it's a very dangerous road - because of the idiots). Be Safe Dan
  17. I saw this trailer on ebay and I am really interested in the cooler rack. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-Pull-Behind-Motorcycle-Trailer-Cargo-Tow-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem19bd5eedffQQitemZ110551297535QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories It is not the rack offered from the manufacturer of the trailer (from what i can determine). I've asked the seller if they sell the rack seperately or if they will tell me where I can buy one. All I've gotten is, "Sorry we don't sell the rack seperately." I've searched the Internet and found the trailer with the same rack but can't get an answer at all from anybody - even www.motorcycletrailer.com whom I've bought a trailer from. This must be some cooler rack for it's details to be so top-secret. Any ideas?????
  18. Factory Reps are trained to Smile and Say, "Yep!"
  19. And when you get to Anchorage you will need to go to The Brew House downtown and to The Moose's Tooth. Both brew their own. You'll never go home.
  20. In Anchorage on a non-cloudy Summer night you can drive all night without your headlights on. In Fairbanks last night they played the 105th edition of the Midnight Sun Baseball game. It's college players in the summer league up here. The game starts at midnight and is played without artificial light (i.e. Just the sun). OH - and it always rains in Juneau. I don't know why the pay the weatherman there.
  21. Borrow his wife/girlfriend sometime and try the same thing with him (being appropriately creative of course).
  22. And when you're done cooking with it you just unfold it the other way because it then becomes a condominium (the only drawback is the pool is kinda small).
  23. What was in that PM? I want to know. I'd like to extend the link over to the sidecar also - but not permanently as I don't have the sidecar on all the time.
  24. I bought a pair from a guy off ebay. They look the same as yours but mine are black. I've had them on for 2 years. I followed his instructions and they went on easier than I ever expected. I know he also makes tank covers and trunk covers. The leather is very thin but I haven't had one issue with them yet. Even my little girls shoes don't mess them up and they hide the scratches on my saddlebags (from same said shoes). And if I remember right - the price was do-able and the guy has a no-questions-asked return policy.
  25. Here's a couple of pictures of my trailer. I can pack enough stuff in it for my little girl and I to camp for a couple of days. http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j54/Danlapan/MCLPpics001.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j54/Danlapan/Venturers/ToBeLabeled219.jpg
