  1. Twigg, thanks for the thread. LD riding is not for everyone and can be hard to explain to others why we do it. We don't take these rides lightly, and do them for various reasons of our own. Looking forward for future writings.
  2. Goose, congratulations. The wife and I just rode thru Ruidoso last Tuesday coming from the Black Hills to the White Sands area before heading home to Tx. Real nice riding, beautiful area. Enjoy.
  3. Just finished an over 4k mile trip on the 05 Midnight. Started out on an Iron Butt Border to Border from Laredo, Tx to Emerson, MB, Canada. Ended up riding almost all of Texas in the rain. Then I had the rear tire started to go down west of Topeka, Ks on the Turnpike at midnight. It was several hours before I had the tire plugged and back on the road. By then with the rain and the tire, the B2B was going to be a DNF. After a few hours sleep, checked my phone and DaveZipcode here in Houston was following my Spot Tracker and wanted to see what went wrong. He then got me info on VR members in the Sioux Falls area that I could contact. Since I was sure I could make it to Sioux Falls where I was to meet the wife to start a trip to the Black Hills after the B2B run. I contacted member EZRALE (Ezra) who lives in Dell Rapids north of Sioux Falls. Explained my situation with the rear tire and needing a dealer to get a new one. I didn’t want to ride a long trip with the wife on a plugged tire. He gave info on a Yamaha dealer and some other choices for repair, Yamaha was just a stones throw from the motel I was planning to stop at and meet the wife who was flying in on Tuesday. That Tuesday morning got the bike over to the dealer and they had one rear tire for the Venture in stock. They had me fixed up in about 2 hrs. After picking the bike up, Erza came by the motel on his 97 RSTD to meet and we talked for awhile and then went for a ride around the Sioux Falls area out in the countryside. We had a great time chatting and then found out we are both in the Broadcast business working for TV stations. What are the odds? Erza had just joined VR in August and put down on his profile VR assistance, but thinking it would be a million years before he would get a call. You never know. Thanks Erza. Picked up the wife at the airport and we started our trip the Black Hills area, had a great time riding in South Dakota and will be back. Then we headed to Denver to see an old friend there. While there noticed a small coolant leak coming from #2 cyl. Immediately got on the VR site to search, and found out about the dime fix on the drain plug. Worked like a charm. Its still there. I, like most everyone on this site really enjoy the having this group of people who freely give help and knowledge for all to use. There isn’t another group like this I am sure. Thanks again to Dave, Ezra and my wife Mollie who brought a spare tire on her flight just in case the dealer didn’t have one. Here are some pics of the trip. PS. With over 97500 miles on the Venture, I know she is just getting broke in. Love to ride it and do. Perry
  4. Rick, maybe we will cross paths out on the road. I am heading out 9/15 for an Iron Butt Border to Border from Laredo to Canada. Having wife fly up to Sioux Falls, SD when I finish and spend about 4 days up in the Badlands, Mt Rushmore area. Before heading back to Denver and then to Four Corners, White sands, NM and then home. Envy you being able to take a couple of months for some riding around the country. We can't wait. Have a safe ride and enjoy.
  5. Congrats to you both, many more to come.
  6. Here are some more pics of the M & E.
  7. Great ride yesterday. Thanks owen and kreg for some nice roads to enjoy. Great time with everyone. Was pretty hot and tired when I got home. Just think summer just started. Getting ready to head out and do it again. Riding up to Georgetown for a RTE with the Texas Tour of Honor riders.
  8. Will meet you'al at the shell. Almost couldn't make it. Went to leave the house this morning at 2am to go to work, when I notice my highway bar lights pointing down. Right side bolt was broke on the mount to the triple tree. Had to cage it to work. Got home and got the bolt out and replaced, think it must have been weaken when the bike went over several weeks ago after front tire went flat. Bike fell over on its own side of the road. Landed hard over on side, right passing light was twisted. See ya in the morning.
  9. Great job Owen, you got it down. The first IB is the best, all the planning, riding and finishing. Makes you want to do more, atleast in my case. Might be hard to keep up with you on that FJR. Nice ride.:clap2:
  10. I installed Cobra Slip-ons which has a nice sound to it, louder than the stock for sure. I also added the MaxAir Predator Pro air box kit which required re-jetting to get the increased performance.
  11. :Happy Birthday: Jim, wishing you the best today. We need to get together sometime this summer, maybe when it warms up. LOL. Hope you got take the Goldwing for a ride today.
  12. Thanks, would love to ride in California some day. Was stationed at Vandenburg AFB in the 70's, did a lot traveling around that state. Would love to see it again on a bike. Hope you get to do the ToH run.
  13. GPS had me moving for almost 23hr out of the 28. Averaged around 30min per memorial stop, with 7 gas stops along the way. Seen a lot of DPS around Fredericksburg area. I rode a conservative ride, needed you to push me. Haven't checked my gas mileage yet, but I know on the way up to Lubbock the head wind was bad. I usually switched off the aux tank at 100 miles. That section, got only 60 miles on the tank. All n all was happy with the ride. Only traffic was back in Houston when they had 610 N and 45 shutdown and I had to sit in traffic to find a different route thru town.
  14. I completed part of my ride of the Tour of Honor to visit 7 memorial sites around Texas. I signed up for this ride back in Dec. The sites became available April 1st. Dave Zipcode and I attempted back on April 6th when he had his rear tire go flat on the way to the first site in Fredericksburg. Then he went down with his wife a week ago. Sure missed having him ride along, but glad he and Jamie are ok. I was planning to complete the ride of visiting all 7 sites in an Iron Butt Saddlesore 2000 in under 48hrs. The ride was good, turned Hot in North Texas, great weather, finished the required 4 sites in 1000 miles under the 24hr. Grabbed one more site north of Dallas at 12:30am. Headed for home, stopped for some rest along the way. Amazing you can fall alseep on the bike lying on the tank bag. By then I was up for over 24hrs. Got home after 27hrs on the road. Decided on not going to south Texas to grab the remaining 2 memorials. Needed to get some good rest. Was about 25 miles short of being able to submit the ride as a Bunburner 1500 in 36hrs. So I went for a short ride to get me over the #. Here are some pics of the memorial sites I visited.
  15. :Happy Birthday: HAL
  16. Wasn't funny at the time, but when the first EMS arrived, after they checked him. Seems he was lying in the next county, so had to wait for another EMS to arrive. Don't know who said it, I think Dave, to drag him back to the other county. And to top it off some gas was starting to leak from the main tank gas cap on to the ground next to him. But he was soon on his feet, and I had plenty of help to get the bike uprighted. After a short wait, she started right up. Blew a little smoke, but was able to ride it real slow to get it a safer place a few yards away.
  17. Dave and I started our ride this morning on the Tour of Honor ride in Texas. About 12 miles west of Dripping Springs, tx heading to Fredericksburg for our first memorial stop about 8am.. Dave had his rear tire go flat on 290 and went down on the side of the hwy. He is alright but real sore on his left side. I was leading so didn't see him go down, when I looked back after going up a hill and curve a pickup was flashing his lights at me, when I turned around and went back he was lying flat on his back next to his TD on the side of the highway. Two drivers had already stopped and gotten to him. Made him lie there till EMS arrived where they checked him out. Had a whole bunch of LEO and EMS and Fire dept blocking the road, its a busy fast hwy. They finally got Dave up and he was able to walk around. A wrecker arrived but Dave got ahold of Tom (Blanco)who lived real close to where we were to bring his trailer. He arrived and we got it on his trailer and took it to his house and put it on his lift to find the tire problem, a 1' gash inside the one threads. Dave's wife Jamie arrived shortly after and the three of us went to get some lunch in downtown Blanco then head back to Houston. I got back home by 6:30, spoke with Jamie, Dave was resting after some good drugs. Besides the rear tire, bike was in good shape, left crash bar was bent, left cowling was loose, left passing light a little bent. His new 5 gallon Aux tank on the back held in there. All n all was real glad the day turned out better than it could have been. He was able to walk away. Thanks to TOM for a great assist for a fellow Venture rider.
