  1. Hey y'all - My turn in the barrel got a battle with the big C in progress - Need to focus my energy so I'm letting my 84' go with lots of spare parts - see the ad I placed if your interested please call BUT please let's not talk about cancer I'm on overload with that. Jim @ 360-775-7741
  2. I placed an ad in the classifieds, the reason for the ad is I must sacrifice due to recent health issues. I love my ride and it needs a good home, all is on the up and up as several of you know that have been to my home. This scoot will be a great bike for one of you and loads of spare parts from an 86 VR go with it, it's a STRONG runner. Help my wife and I while helping yourself. Jim "OldBull" 360-504-2359 H 360-775-7741 C
  3. We will make the Cody, WY rally, awesome ride from here to there that time of year, anybody else going to Cody rally from NW, maybe we could hookup. If enough I could bring my big trailer enough room for 6 Ventures and the ex-cab F250 we could ride and/or trailer have loads of room for extra baggage and FULL set of tools with some spare parts in case we experience any breakdowns. I live close enough to Vancouver Island BC - Seattle - Portland that anyone could coordinate and meet one of those 3 spots is more than welcome to share the bike trailer and/or ride along. It's an outstanding ride from NW to Cody that time of year, could hit snow in the upper parts of the pass coming and going but it shouldn't be heavy and having the trailer available would negate any worries over the white stuff. Give me a call should be some BIG fun Jim 360-775-7741
  4. I have an 83' VR, I did a strip to frame (w/ new powdercoat) restoration with complete platic repairs for all the stress cracks and painted it midnight purple with hand painted pin striping - bike had 29K actual miles on it when I got it. I wouldn't sell mine for 9k, I know what I have. My point is if you like wrenching an older bike can be found with low miles fairly cheap and you can have a beauty for half what your thinking of paying and a lot of fun working on it making it yours. Bull
  5. I just stripped an 86 VR and was very surprised at how easily it all came apart, it won't be extremely difficult - couple of hours start to finish - no special tools - about a 12 pack job. Bull
  6. I live in one of the best spots in the country for rides - Pacific NW - Have 3 scoots and my only dilemma is which one comes out of its stall today. During the week when traffics down and the roads are dry the 86' Eliminator ZL900 comes out alot and it's to the mountain roads for some sssspppppeeedd handling rides. Day trip to Seattle - 2 hour drive - or to the ocean beaches 1 hour ride with no rider many times it's the 82' Maxim XJ110J - more room to carry stuff and lots of POWER to keep up / set the pace with buds on crotch rockets. When it's Momma and mwah out rolls the 83' VR for comfort, speed and handling for two up, especially on longer hauls - like those improv trips to BEST rib joint in the NW in Spokane, WA - 10 hour round trip. Come on out for a ride and a BBQ anytime. Bull
  7. When you figure out exactly what you need I most likely have it off an 86' Venture Royale' - have pic's so you can compare - please though it's hard to send decent sized pic's of any quantity thru this server, send me an email to oldbull@q.com and I'll respond with pic's. Bull
  8. Bull; from Port Angeles, WA - I qualify can see W Canada from my yard. Ready anytime anywhere for one out our way. Let's see for a Meet n Eat out here we'd have salmon, dungeness crab, halibut, clams. moose, elk and maybe a hot dog or 2. Ready and willing and can supply fresh crab as much as I can pack on the scoot anyway.
  9. There are some fantastic rides on the Peninsula. Port Angeles is the pivot point for most of the rides here. Perfect riding weather from mid May to October 1st - low 60's to low 80's daytime - low 50's to hi 60's nighttime - far enough North daylight hours from 430 am to 1030 pm june - july. Port Angeles is jump off point for ferry to Vancouver Island and Victoria BC, Great rides on Vancouver Island, plenty of Cutters needed summer inland though, damn skeeters. My house is outside of Port Angeles on side of a mountain over looking Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island across the water, plenty of room with acerage for tent campers, can board in house as well, couple of extra bedrooms and loads of floor space. Large Hot tub to soothe those iron butts and decent shop to tinker on scoots or if needed major work. Wife and I love company and lots of friends wander in and out during summer "doing the Peninsula" all are welcome. Please this is not an insincere invite, feel free to give us a call and come see some great riding country with what we hope you'll feel some decent hospitality from us. You'll meet a lot of folks here from all over this area, just might make some lifelong friends, great bunch of folks show up around here all summer. BBQ'n most every night NW style with fresh Dungies, salmon, ling cod and halibut. Open invite all summer - come one come all. Bull & Suzanne
  10. Couple of damn fine houses where Ladies of the evening reside outside Fairbanks, I mean REAL fine.
  11. Ferry up inside passage goes to many jump off points allowing you to skip tundra areas where noseeums will tear your ass up. I use the alsakan "hiway" many times, it's inexpensive, you can jump off and jump back on anytime anywhere for one price, camp on deck free, cafeteria's, hot showers and let's you put senseless miles where they belong behind you and you can cherry pick GREAT sites with MUCH more time. Check it out google alaska ferry system have schedules fares et all really inexpensive and AWESOME scenery from boat as you go to next drop off. Bull
  12. Trying to price parts on 86 VR, any advice appreciated. My thoughts on it here, feel free to punch holes in my theory. I truly don't know what to price these parts at, first time I have ever parted one out. I might be wrong and if I am I'd welcome some constructive criticisim. My thought is that since most of these parts are no longer available as OEM that the parts that are mint or near mint (my coin collecting vernacular coming out) should be worth at a minnimum half of what retail prices were when they were available. Some of the plastic parts, the ones that are most likely the rarest in top condition should by demand bring a higher price than what retail used to be. Based on those thoughts I think I should ask somewhere in the vicinity of 50% of retail for mint/near mint and adjust percentage down from there based on condition issues. Also this not being how I put bread on the table and having bought used parts myself and getting burnt occasionally I will gaurantee any mechanical or electrical parts to function and function properly, unless stated by me that function of the part is unknown and being sold as/is, money back gaurantee after part is returned minus shipping cost if any. If I would have realized how tough this would be I would have done more research before I started. I mistakenly thought I could ask folks to offer a fair price and for the most part they would. I could get more at the scrap yard than some offered as fair. There have been a couple of fair offers not all are bad. Thanks, Bull
  13. Any tips on replacing bars to a more comfortable style? What works - what don't Bull
  14. Have it listed on Craig's, guy just offered me $150 for rolling frame and title, he's making a trike. With shipping cost a few of you'd be looking at it might be more than you want to look at. I haven't accepted his offer yet told him to give me until next Wed. Jim
  15. get one of those BIG silver belt buckles - polish to a shine - move that prodigious belly to the side - look down - see that ******* - he's the one sucking fumes from all the 1st gens.
  16. I've cut a few of them - mask off cutting line so your drawing your line on the tape, both sides. Make a pivot point center of trim below, I use a perm marker for a bold line, tie it on a string to length of your high point and mark from side to side. Use a fine cut new blade on a jig saw, cut slowly less heat, then sand the edges with some heavy - then light steel wool - clean up and ride.
  17. I have 86VR I'm parting and have rear rotor, it was working fine when last ran so I am assuming is a-ok. If you are still in need I'll yank it off and inspect it thouroughly, lots of pic's and report anything that even looks off. Plus I'll gaurante it's good if after it's checked out I deem it is. Money back minus shipping cost. If all's good want $40 plus shipping, find out shipping take zip code 98362 weight and go to UPS website. Let me know if interested I'll take it off bike halftime tomorrows Nebraska bowl game. Bull

  23. Just found some new crud for sealing those older tanks. First off if you have been sort of satisfied with KREEM in the past after you use this stuff you'll thro the KREEM away. Highly reccomend using the quart size offer - more than enough to do 2 tanks - find a buddy to split it with or it'll save. ____________________________________________________________________________ Epoxy Gas Tanoughenank Sealer http://support.caswellplating.com/themes/client_default/supportsuite.gifhttp://support.caswellplating.com/themes/client_default/space.gif Need Assistance? This Epoxy has much better bond strength than single component products, with strengths of up to 3000 PSI, and this higher strength reduces the need for a clinically clean surface, as the epoxy actually prefers to bond to a rough rusty surface. Our new phenol novolac is more thixotropic, which means it 'hangs' on the tank walls during the coating process. This gives a thicker overall coating. There is more volume of material in the kit to allow for this. http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/images/gtsbox.jpg What else can you use Gas Tank Sealer for? A corrosion and chemical resistant coating. ie: battery compartments. A high strength adhesive where plenty of working time is needed. A potting compound, to encapsulate electronics A non-skid surface, just bed in aluminum oxide. Relining old potato peeler machines (Hobart type) - coat liner and bed in aluminum oxide. Repair leaks in concrete vessels, Add fine sand to make a mortar. Bonds to almost anything except polyethylene. Bonds to Wood, plastic, rubber, concrete, metals. Making high quality molds - virtually no shrinkage on curing. Thin cross section repair of sheared parts, such as; broken cups, dishes, or a split leg on a chair. Application Instructions All traces of oil and gasoline should first be removed by pouring about 1 pint of acetone or lacquer thinner into the tank, and rotating the tank several times to thoroughly sluice the sides with solvent. Dispose of the contaminated solution. When recoating your gas tank from failed Kreem or POR-15 tank sealers, remove the old, failed coating using a paint stripper containing Methylene Chloride. Place a hand full of drywall screws into the tank and shake them around vigorously for several minutes. These will dislodge any loose particles of rust. In the case of Fiberglass and plastic tanks, this will rough up the tank interior, improving adhesion. Rinse out the tank with about 1-pint of acetone or lacquer thinner, then set aside and allow to dry. Use an airline to blow air into the tank to aid drying. Apply duct tape or masking tape to any weeping seams, holes or porous areas. This will stop any Gas Tank Sealer from oozing out, and will allow it to bridge over the hole. Plug the outlet ports with putty or Play-Doh. Mix up the required amount of Gas Tank Sealer (one unit should treat two x five gallon tanks) If you are only treating ONE 5 gal (or smaller) tank, then divide parts A & B in half. You could use a dipstick to gauge this. In a separate plastic container (margarine tub etc.) mix the two parts together thoroughly for at least 2 minutes. Scrape around the sides to ensure all resin is blended together. BAD MIXING AND BAD MEASURING IS THE #1 CAUSE OF FAILURE!! Pour into the tank, then immediately seal up the filler hole with Gladwrap and an elastic band. Swill the tank around in every direction for several minutes to obtain a good layer of Gas Tank Sealer over all surfaces. Remove the filler cap,Gladwrap seal, and pour out any excess. Allow to drain upside down for a few minutes. If you have a built in fuel filter, blow air into the fuel line port for about 10 minutes. This will clear the filter of any Gas Tank Sealer. Scrape off any excess with a sharp knife at this point (usually about 40-60 Min after mixing) Place the tank in a warm 70-90 f place and allow to cure overnight. In the case of alcohol fuels, allow 3-5 days at room temperature, or 24 hours at 120 deg f. 1 Pint Of Epoxy Gas Tank Sealer coats up to 2 x 5 gal tanks A few weeks ago you sent me your gas tank sealer kit. In the meantime, I have tried it and I just wanted to tell you that IT'S A GREAT PRODUCT! It worked perfectly well! Now I have a perfect gas tank again for about 40 US$ (including spray paint etc.). A local repair shop wanted about 1000 bucks (no kidding!) for welding and repainting the tank . So, I guess I made a good deal. Thanks a lot for providing such a great product and also for your excellent service. 24. The kit I got was the Kreem kit, the first 2 stages performed well (3 stage kit) , the 3rd stage is the actual finish coating. Said on destructions was enough for a 6 gallon tank, NOT in my opinion, seriously thin coat. Going to keep searching, think I'm going with military contractor sites, gotta be some stronger, tougher crud out there. Guess being old school scoot fixer upper has it's disadvantages in todays market. Seems everybody tries to do more with less these days. I'll find some GOOD stuff and when I do I'll pass it on. Bull
  25. Need to rehab a tank badly. Bought a kit from local body shop but when it gets down to final stage (sealing) find it's not what I need or want, way to thin a product. Can you still get the "old" tank butter? Only name I know it by. Way I'd describe it is dries sort of a buttery creamy color, fairly thick and hard. I think it was a 2 parter some sort of epoxy material. Stuff worked great back in the day on old Harley and Triumph tanks. Used it on some seriously cancered tanks and it filled the bill. I'd just replace the tank but it's a custom off an 86' Kawasaki ZL 900 Eliminator, that looks better than the original and holds almost 2 more gallons of gas, so I need to rehab. Thanks for the help. Bull
