  1. There you go Brad!
  2. This is an older but very informative discussion. Given its age I figured it might be a good idea to clean the radiator, after draining the system and removing the radiator:fiddle:, it turned out to be clean as a wistle, no corrosion, no build up, nothing but clean aluminum.. Anyway, called the shop and they suggested i add "engine ice". Looked at this site and seems similar to what someone called "Motul" http://www.engineice.cc/faq.html Pre mixed, organic, safe for plants and pets; with the urge to go green by many this may be an option, though a lifetime product might be greener:innocent-emoticon:
  3. I believe the tail turn signals should be on along with the tail light?
  4. I had the "dim low beam" issue which most of you say is likely the CM or maybe the switch. The shop "fixed" this by putting a jumper in the system. If I read the wiring diagram in the service manual correct, the jumper is connected to the headlight wires (G/R and Y/G) and taps into the headlight switch on the switch side (Y and G) The indicator light, which was partially on before is now off, but the CM warning light is on. I haven't fully disected the connector, but it appears they did not disconnect and re-route, but merely added a secondary pathway. I'm not sure why this would cause a fault on the CM as I didn't have one before. Since I've got everything apart I'm planning on pulling the CM and re-soldering it and then pull the jumper. Hopefully that will get rid of the flashing warning.
  5. I have the chrome airdam on the bike (see photo album) and the light are flopping around in the sockets. Two questions, any ideas how to permanently tighten them up (given that the exhaust is really in the way) and two; one of them has a cracked housing, does anyone have a (used)replacement or a location where i might find one? Thanks. Am i correct that there are supposed to be two screws holding the light to the metal retaining clip?
  6. Hey Joe, I use my name though i discovered that it could be easily misconstrued. I though it was pretty funny, but it is not my favorite seating position at the club!! But who cares, i've got so many nicknames (Chief, Dundee, BR, jerk (ex)), I have a hard time remembering them all. Wouldn't worry about it, life's too short.
  7. does a CO detector detect cumulative levels though. I have heard that it take houres for the body to rid itself of the stuff. Here's just one link describing to check it out. Found this to be a eyecathing phrase: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning can happen within a matter of minutes . doesn't smoking aggrevate the problem?? http://www.carbon-monoxide-poisoning.com/index.html
  8. Heck Squid, have a collegue out in sunny California who keeps saying we should all use white boards. Hmm, 15 jobs per customer, some weekly, some bi-weekly some semi annual some ..well you get the pic. I'm glad to have one, it's just frustrating when stuff goes wrong and you can't fix it. Probably similar to a second gen
  9. :soapbox:I'm gonna shoot myself!! What was a minor computer problem, screen orientation on the tablet would not change, is with the help of tech support now a diaster. Can't access e-mail, can't print, damaged, missing and corrupted files which can not be repaired or re-downloaded, programs shutting down just because, external keyboard intermittent, Aaaarrrggghhh!!!:bang head: Wish I could restore to an earlier point and undo this @&*%! The latest solution is to re-format!! :smash2: Oh, btw, here's how ....
  10. Not quite the same as a motorcycle, but if anyone is into sailing I am selling looking at selling my 30 ft LOD sailboat. It does need quite a bit of work but am willing to let it go dirt cheap.. Interested or know someone who may be, send me a pm and I'll get you pics and details. Thanks.
  11. what size are you wanting to put on and why? Extended range due to insufficient fuel stations? You possess a steel a*%#@ so that you can ride four hours straight? I rode mine back from Toledo (650 m) and a break every two hours was well worth it :-)
  12. Stupid Dutchmen!! Can just see that, let me move the furniture every time I want to ride the bike and see/saw it into/out of the living room!
  13. Forgot! Install a winch in case the bike won't crank. and to haul the trailer up the ramp! Been there:D
  14. If you buy this I would suggest turning the trailer in the oposite direction so that you can enter the side door and not have to climb over the trialer tongue. Look into a lockable wheel chock like they have for lawn mowers. ride the trailer into it and fold up to lock. With a wall mounted trailer ball you would need very little strapping to lock that down. With e-Track on the floor you probably have 3/4inch plywood. might back oputr some of the lagbolts and replace w. thru bolts on the frame either side of the tie down point. 2" tie down straps are rated for 10000# cut them to size one across the ball in back and two for the front forks. The only time you really have to worry about weight shifting if whith major potholes or bumps. If you're planning on running into a wall no amount of strapping is going to help:D Max tongue weight for a three inch receiver with a 2" ball is 5000# if memory serves, 2-5/16th with a 1" shank will jump that to 10000#. Little overkill for what you're hauling. Do Not pull this with a 1" receiver and/or a 1-7/8 ball oh, I pull a 24 foot 12000# GVW trailer every day:mo money:
  15. My bike only has 22K on it, solenoid lookds to be in good shape, clean and free of corosion. It looks like there is some seepage around the valve covers. Not be a mechanic I do not know what you mean by checking the valve shims. i'll check ito getting some new valve cover gaskets. I am assuming these things heve some kind of torque spec?? (like handtight plus a half turn?) -All hoses and connection on the radiator are in good shape. I'll flush it and re-fill. -speedo already taken care of. -speakers already replaced. -YICS chamber in good shape plus it has mounting points for the inside fairing so i'm going to leave it. Yes I might regret that:smilies6: -Can't seem to find the ground point you are talking about, was going to add a ground to the frame as well. - Have an extra switch on the dash, I'll take that suggestion on the fan, does it require #10 wiring or can she run on less? Where do you recommend connecting the switch? Splice it into the fan itself or an override on the thermostatic switch somewhere? How would that affect the existing switch? -One of the pins in the blue radio connectors was pushed down, maybe some superglue?! I did notice that I have a coppery collored discoloration on the upper side of the waterpump cover, some on the rear valve cover (front cylinder left side) and the top of the bell cover over the stator (left side behind the engine guard). No clue what that signifies, though I would guess it may be temperature related? Probably should considering pulling the CMS and fixing it. Ah, the joys of ownership did i mention i am not that mechanically inclined:D
  16. I'm replacing battery cables as per Squidly's specs on my '83. So far I've got the right side apart and most of the left. Hopefully i'll remember how to put it back together While I have all the trim off, anything I should look at, clean, replace or other. As Rooster said, it's a PITA and I don't care to do it too often. Second, the secondary wires coming of the battery terminals are pretty short, I am debating extending them, perhaps by putting a pull apart connector in it as opposed to straight wiring. Thoughts? Last, I have enough supplies to make another set. If you're intersted let me know. I accept credit cards. Thanks.
  17. Freaking Awesome!!!
  18. You guys make me sick! ....Oh, never mind, I am!
  19. Freebird going to be there
  20. Thank you. Had to create space to make them fit. But it's worked out OK
  21. Fairly new so don't know how much say I've got here. Since y'all seem to have adopted St. Jude's and this is the second running of the bears/ bear run (?) why not make it an annual event, have PB&J design a logo (if he would) and give/sell stickers/patches to donors/participants. Another thought, if bears can be purchased wholesale as suggested by Gunboat, can they be shipped directly to St. Jude and a delegation present a "gift certificate" to them around the time of delivery along with a token number of bears. This would eliminate storing and toting these things all over the place Just a thought
  22. If it's vinyl lettering it will leave a mark when removed. If it's still on use a hair dryer or something similar to heat and peal the stuff off. Over time the un-exposed areas (read those covered with vinyl) will not weather the same. If there is no residue on the aluminum you should be able to buff most of it out. Most remaing residue can be removed, but, .............. I can't remeber with what:sign brain fart: On a side note: local car dealer has an open bike trailer for sale, Looks very good driving by (2 bikes) Anyone interested I'll go ask how much.
  23. Aahh, so you're the one!!
  24. Actually discovered that if you cook it like they would in Europe (i.e. in milk w. sugar) it's not bad stuff at all. It's that water logged *%@# w. salt that makes me gag just thinking about it!
  25. You kidding?? We just shut everything down if they even think the work "snow"!!
