Just when I figured out one problem I get another. I recently put the Plug and Play LED turn signals and tail light in my 99. Found out that the board or wire in the tail light was shorting out when I tightened down the bottom screw of the lens. Fix that and all seemed well. Got back yesterday from a ride to Vermont and still all is good. Put the bike away after a good cleaning, then this morning I get a call from the wife and she said the my passing lamps are on. They were not on when I went to bed last night. They're wire to a relay to the ignition switch and no other lights are affected (on). I will start tracing wires when I get home but am looking for a little advice what could cause it. Had one thought...Can a relay fail in the closed position?? Thanks. Bill

5bikes thanks for your help. We have light!! What was happening was that the headlight fuse was blownig and cutting all the lights and activating the horn. Not sure why all the lights were going out but they did. Went through a few fuses but figured it out. It looks like when I tightened the bottom screw on the lense the board was making contact with the housing and shorting out. If it was just the top 2 no problem. That bottom screw would pull it in far enough to short it. I taped the inside of the housing and used a small o ring and that did it. Thanks again. I still hate electrical problems. Bill

5bikes To answer the ?? No this has never happened before The turn signals were put in last week and have had no problems The turn signals and tail lights are LED plug and play. no cuts no splices. just remove stock bulb and replace with LED. I had the taillight plugged in and working with lens held in place but not screwed down. After I screwed it down is when I had the problem. I checked wires on new tail light might have pinch one but the wire does not look exposed just flattened. I did remove the LED tail light and put the stock bulb back in to see if it made a difference and it did not. I removed the seat and disconnected the lighting harness but no difference. still no lights and horn going off.

Hi all. Just installed the Chrome Glow turn signal lights last week and they work/look great so I ordered the tail light. Installed it tonight and it looks great. So here is the problem. I tighten down the lens cover to finish up and then turned the key thats when I had no lights and the horn is blowing. What gives?? I then took out the LED and put back the stock bulb..samething! I have a trip planed to Vermont this weekend and it would be a long trip with out lights and listening to the horn(LOL) Any Ideas??? Thanks. Bill

I have narrowed down shorts by connecting a test light in between the Neg. terminal and Neg. cable. If the bike is drawing power the light will shine. Then pull each fuse one by one. When the light goes out that should be the circut involved. That will at least give you an idea where to start. Its worked for me. I HATE electrical problems. Bill

Lt. If your looking for white walls your pretty limited. I believe that the 404's are your choice if looking for front and rear matched set. Other companies make fronts in ww and some the rears in ww. Why they don't make both is truley a mystery. I have the Dunlop 404's on my 99 which are the wide white walls and I like em. I quess us folks that run the WWW are just special and they're just not enough of us. Bill

Thanks. What would be the negative effect of being restricted other then performance?

Hi all. I need a clarification. Will the HD slip ons with the cats work or not. I read conflicting reports and I am alittle confused, well alot confused but only a little on this issue.(LOL) I am finding more of the ones with the cats around here and wondered if they will work. So will they or won't they. Thanks. Bill

Hi all. Finally getting around to tuning my antenna's that I installed last year. Does any one know of a place in the North Jersey area that tunes antenna's? Having a hard time finding a place. Thanks.
-
I like the idea. IMHO I think alarms, locks and other security measures are great. It can help with the average theft, those of oppertunity and "kids" taking the bike. Here in North Jersey we have more dirt bikes and quads taken then street bikes. Bikes are no different than cars. If a professional wants your bike/car he will get it. That is why he is a professional. Like any pro he will have the right tools for the job. Anything for gadgets to defeat alarms, bolt cutters to trucks with lift gates. I have found though that most are stolen by the "non-professional". People sometimes leave the keys in the bike or car and still leave thier house unlocked. So I do think they can help. It can't hurt. Bill

Thanks Rick. I have put on about 600 miles on the bike since I put the "new" seat. Was not easy with the Jersey weather and it's awsome. I can now ride with out the butt ache. Made a huge difference for me. My butt and I both thank you from the bottom of our ...well...bottoms. Thanks again Rick. Bill

Sierra-mc has the J&M OF headset for $59. Any one ever stick the open face boom mic into a ff helmet and make it work? Bill
-
Thanks Count. The difference in price is about $10 so thats not a factor. Really wanted to know if one sounded better (ie. clarity, wind noise). It looks like your vote is for the J&M. Did you get much wind noise with the J&M?
-
Thanks Keith. I have checked out both and both seemed to have good reveiws. Just wondered if one was a little better then the other. Thanks.

I am looking at 2 headsets the J&M H58154 of/ff and the IMC HSG35u/HSG15. Both inexpensive headsets. One for 3/4 and one for full face helmet. I do limited 2-up but its nice to have when I do. They are both about the same price so was wondering if any one has an opinion either way on which to get. Thanks. Bill

Edit: now that I think about it, I am about to pull the shield anyway to install my Zumo mic cable.. I'm going to get some silicon sealant and put that on all the screws to make sure they do not come loose and so they stick to the windshield. __________________ Why not run the bead of silicon along the bottom of the shield and around the screw holes as well as the screws?? Kind of like a cars windshield sealant. May give a little extra grip and still be able to remove the shield when you need to. -
When my kids started to ride with me I told them to act like it was a comfy chair in the livingroom. just sit back and enjoy the ride. I also had them look over/around my shoulder and not have them right behind me so they could see. That way they could see things coming such as an upcoming corner, a stop or trouble. It also helped with any incidental helmet to helmet contact if I had to slow down. Besides if you had no trouble before when you used to ride it might just take a few rides to get "back in the saddle again"

Before getting my 99 RSV I had a Kawasaki Voyager. Alot of guys used the SuperBrace on them. Some that had have them liked them and some said there was not a noticable difference. But it's a start. http://www.superbrace.com/ -
Thanks guys. I do think the blue smoke could be pretty but not coming from my CB. Thanks again.

Hi all. I just got the antenna's today and put them on. Look alot better to me and no more scraping the garage door when parking it. My next question is ... Do you need the heatset to adjust the CB? I do don't have one yet. Just not sure if I need one to set the antenna.
-
That sounds good. Judging by your ID I assume your on the job or lucky enough to be retired? I am in Morris county so not to far away.

Thanks Freebird. I for one appreciate your brief and to the point answer. Thanks again. Bill

I just got a 99 RSV coming from a Kawasaki voyager. really like the bike so far. Now to my ?? The bike has 4' K40s on the bike now. I want to know if I can just swap them out and put on the Firestik 3' fireflys and a 3' firestik amfm3 for the radio. The antennas are working fine only to tall for the garage so I wanted something shorter, plus I like the look of a shorter antenna. Can I just unscrew the K40s from the Valor fold overs and install the firestiks?
