  1. Thought some might be interested in this rally in Athens, TX. If I hear about a group of VR riders coming I will set up some good rides for the VR Group. Mavrick
  2. Just read this thread....Too many Venture Riders going down out there. Tom and his Family are in our prayers. You guys be careful out there!!!
  3. Hang in there Ponch.....Our prayers are with you and Kathy!!
  4. Did not hydroplane.....that tar was just like a sheet of ice. It was a slight incline and the bike fishtailed and then just slid out from under me. They need to do something to repair that streach of road.
  5. I have a Zumo 550 and it is a Great GPS. You will not regret the purchase.
  6. Well....got the Venture 5 years ago and enjoyed over 50,000 miles.....The wife bought me a new Harley Ultra Clasic Peace Officer Special Edition.....What a sweet wife I have. Left out for Colorado on Friday with my brother on his 97 Ultra Classic and made it 5 miles east of Snyder on US Hwy 180. We rode in the rain off and on all day and it had let up to just a sprinkle so we were feeling pretty good. I hit a streach of tar that had no gravel on it and all of a sudden I fish tailed and was sliding down the road on my butt like a slip and slide. My HD was in front of me and the Comm cord was still attached. I pushed it away from me and turned to look and my brother was also sliding down the slip and slide on his butt. I slid until I stopped and the road surface did not even tear my blue jeans. Rick slid to the shoulder and got some road rash from the rough gravel there. Looks like Ricks Bike is totaled and my new HD is going to be close to totaled. Damn....just paid $250 for the 1000 mile service. The good think is we are walking and talking with some minor road rash and Insurance will deal with the bikes. Rode in a lot of rain on the old Venture and never had a problem but don't know if that would have made a difference on the road surface. This was a US Highway and you would think it would be maintained but it was not. Our Angels were with us but please be careful out there.....especially when it is wet!!!! My bike will be in the shop for about three months while they order special parts to repair it. It is the pitts to be down during the best time to ride but thankful that I am ok and looking forward to getting it out of the shop for another ride.....
  7. Departing for a 7 day ride through New Mexico and Colorado on Saturday July 10. I have a tentitive schedule but this is going to be a leisure trip with nothing eally set in concrete. Day 1 - 446 miles - Cleburne to Brantley Lake State Park west of Carlsbad, NM Day 2 - 375 miles - Brantley Lake State Park to Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area north of Santa Fe. We may decide to stay in Santa Fe instead of Santa Cruz. I have some friends that have a condo there but will play it by ear and depends on how many make the trip. Day 3 - 249 miles - Santa Fe to Silverton, Colorado - I will be making reservations at the Canyon View Motel. Rates on their internet page are $65 a night. Day 4 - 122 miles - Silverton to Gunnison KOA Campground - this is a pretty short run but the road looks pretty twisty and we will take our time and enjoy. We may decide to keep riding and stop at another location. Day 5 - 258 miles - Gunnison to Monument Lake State Park west of Trinidad, Colorado. Day 6 - 361 miles - Monument Lake State Park to Caprock Canyon State Park near Silverton, TX Day 7 - 320 miles - back to Cleburne Let me know if you are interested in going and I will send you maps of the routes. I have MapSource (Garmin) files if you have a GPS to load. Michael Burton Director Blue Knights Texas XXI 903-681-5983

  10. Ponch, Our Prayers are with you and your family. So sorry for your loss. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you. Take care Brother and just take comfort in the fact that your Dad is walking the Golden Streets of Heaven.
  11. Good to hear your ok.....the Motor is much easier to fix. Sounds like you did a great job braking to minimize damage and injury. Make sure you get checked out by a Doctor and let the insurance company fight out the fault problem. It is always a good thing when you have an accident and live to ride another day!!!
  12. I am going to Rock Springs this weekend and all are invited to ride if your free. I will be leaving Athens about 7 am traveling Hwy 31 to Waco. I will be in Corsicana about 740 and Waco about 900. I will be meeting my brother Rick "Goose" at the Cracker Barrel on IH 35 and the north loop. KSU at 1000 for the ride to Rock Springs. We will be doing back roads and taking our time and enjoying the wind in our face. Saturday we will ride the Three Sisters and anywhere else we want to go and Sunday we will head back home. If you want to go make sure and let me know so we don't leave anyone. I can also give you Hotel info if you need it. Right now I think we have four bikes ready to go but all are welcome. I am taking cards and dominoes. This is not a guys only trip. I know at least two couples will be riding two up. The New Mexico and Colorado Trip for July is still on and more details will be sent out soon. This will be the first road trip for the new Motor. 13. Congratulations Buddy on your new ride......Take care of my Baby. It was really sad to see my old friend ride away today but I know it has a special home. Even though I have gone to the Dark Side I will always hang on to this wonderful web site to stay in touch with the many friends I have made......We need to have another East Texas Meet..... 15. It is a 96... Thanks Vance.....I enjoyed the meeting we did here in Athens......I am ready to do it again if anyone wants.
  16. I am pretty impressed.....NO Cassette Player and it is fuel injected!!! It does require Premium fuel and the Services required by the warranty are not cheap but I guess there are trade offs for everything.
  17. Well......I have to tell all I have departed for the Dark Side. My Sweet wife surprised me with a new ride. A 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Peace Officer Special Edition. Picked it up yesterday afternoon and rode it on my first ride today. I have really enjoyed the Venture and will miss is the the Harley is a sweet ride. I will be posting my 04 Venture on the For Sale Page at $6500 for any VentureRider.org member. It has 50,000 miles on it. It will be hard to part with because it has been such a sweet ride. If anyone is interested they can let me know and I will get back with them to answer any questions.
