Gene - GenMar is the other brand riser. I believe I went with Barons. Tom - I hope you're right on the bar weights. The drawings Buddy posted look a little different, but maybe the nut in the bar is the same on both and will except the Venture ends. Center width is only 1/2" larger on the RSTD and the clamp specs are the same on both bars. Another reason to find a bargain and test fit them though. Thanks for the drawings Buddy. I'm not in a big hurry on this. If anyone has a set of RSTD bars they don't want or if you see some on ebay, let me know, please. If that doesn't happen, maybe I'll find a vendor with a good return policy so all it will cost me is shipping if they don't work out.

I've been using 1 1/2" risers for a year now. I like the setup better than stock, but it still isn't quite what I want. I've thought about the G2's, but they are the same height as stock and I think I like the height the risers give me (I'm 6' 2"). I thought about putting the G2s on the risers. 1 1/2" more height and 2" more pull back. I would prefer to get rid of the risers, but that setup might give me what I want. Then I looked at the RSTD stock bars. 2" more in Height and 2 1/2" more pull back... and no risers. They are 2" wider also. Do they use the same bar weights? Here are the specs: Height Width Pull Back Center RSV 6" 31" 14" 7.5" G2 6" 31.5" 16" 6" RSTD 8" 33" 16.5" 8" I'm thinking I would need to go 4" over on throttle cables, upper front brake hose and upper clutch hose. If I decided I didn't like it, would the extra hose/cable length be a problem if I left them on but went back to G2 or stock+risers? Anyone got a set of RSTD stock bars for cheap? I would like to throw a set on just to see how they look and feel on the bike before I lay out the money for cables and hoses. Any thoughts?

Sometimes I have to use a Windows only program. I have a laptop just for those few programs. It's running XP on an Intel Dual processor 1.66 GHz and a meg of ram. Windows is friggin' slow! My Linux desktop runs on an AMD 3800+ (actual processor speed about 2.4 GHz). It boots (the few times I need to boot it) much, much faster than XP. Every program I run loads faster and works faster... significantly faster... than it's Windows equivalent and almost everything I run was free! I don't use the XP machine on the web much, but I still run anti-virus and anti-spyware on it. Never found anything but some tracking cookies, so it's not that making it slow... it's just slow compared to Linux. My daughter has a machine with Vista and they hate it. I gave them an old/slow box with windows 2000 and they say its faster than their newer Vista box. I think one reason Gates is getting out now is because he believes Windows has about peaked... maybe already has... and he doesn't want to be involved with the slide.

Glad you got it worked out! Guess I've been lucky so far. I updated to 3.8 the day after it came out. I haven't seen any problems yet, but I've only used it a few times since upgrading. I'm showing just under 750 songs in 38 folders. The folders have anywhere from 4 to 71 songs in them. I use the bluetooth abilities along with BuddyRich's cable so I can use the phone through the headset. At least 'll know where to look if I start having problems. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad you got it! I'm afraid that what you did may not even make the Venture Riders Top 10 list of "I can't believe I did that!" You'll just have to try harder.

It's likely not broken. Those mechanisms tend to stick and not work properly. It's all metal sliding on metal that works the catches and no grease to help. I just kept working with mine until it finally opened. Press the button and push/bang the lid and sides in the area of the latches hoping the metal will slide and the latches let go. There may be a better way, but this worked and I didn't look any further. After getting it open, use some white grease on the latches where they slide metal on metal. Makes 'em better than new. In the pics below, I didn't have any white lithium and just used axle/bearing grease until I could get some.

That's what I'm running right now. I just put them on this season, so I can't tell you about any long term effects the heaters may have on the foam. I expect no problems, but you never know. The heaters stick well to the stock grips. So well, I doubt you could take them off without destroying the grips. I've turned them on maybe a dozen times. Low is plenty warm enough for me. We haven't had any really cold weather yet. This mornings ride to work (about 35 miles) was one of the coldest so far at 36 degrees when I left the house... probably 40 by the time I got to work. I've been caught in a chilly (light) rain and used them. Dried my gloves and warmed me up. I used to have to wear glove liners with these gloves when below about 45. I hated the feel (bulk) of the liners. Not anymore. Should be fine down to at least 30... and that's when I grab the truck keys. Palm of my hands can get too hot, even on low. I have to occasionally open my grip a little to get some air in there. The tops get chilly, but not uncomfortable. The gloves are fur lined and retain some heat all around. Bottom line, I like them so far. For my kind of riding in south Texas, they do the job.

I agree with what Goose said. On the side stand, the fuel gauge will read quite a bit higher. If you checked the fuel while it was warming up and it was on the side stand, you didn't have half a tank. My perception is that the last half a tank goes much faster than the the first half. I always reset one of my trip odometers and keep track that way. Gauges can fool ya. I'm not saying there isn't something else in play here... just that these would be my first thoughts.

jt... we've already shared some words... to that I'll add some prayers.

You might sill want to consider the 550. It comes with both the motorcycle and car cradles. I seem to remember someone doing a comparison and if you plan to use the unit on both scooter and in car/truck, best buy was the 550. Might be wrong but worth checking out. version 3.80 is on the Garmin website now.

I use my Zumo all the time. It's great! My previous GPS went out on me in the middle of nowhere one time. I wasn't prepared for that. I managed to find gas before I ran out and bought a paper map to get me back on tract. I always keep a few paper maps in the trunk now.

Audio problem with back speakers
BigShell replied to gdebruin123's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How about a wild guess! The amp has three outputs left and right front and rear (both rear speakers off the same output). Maybe changing from speakers to headset switches the left and right front from the speakers to the headset and attempts to mute the rear speakers by turning the volume down, but not off. -
I'm not far from ya. Was out working on the bike today... in shorts and a T-Shirt. I know... should have been riding, but it needed brakes!

A friend and I used to go surf fishing down a 4-wheel drive only beach called Big Shell. We always stopped at the last place we could get gas to top off our tanks. We pulled up to the pumps and went inside to prepay. Each of us left a $20. Mine was the smaller truck and topped off first. I went back inside to get my change. The guy walked over to the machine that showed the purchase amount and picked up the 2 twenties we had given him. He just stood there and looked at them for what seemed like an awfully long time. Finally he turned to me and asked, "Do you remember which one of these was yours?" I couldn't believe it. I just pointed to one and said that was mine.

Floresville's not a very big town. We do have two signal lights and you can blink and not miss it... just don't blink very many times. I stopped by the store to pick up a few things and there it was... a 1st gen parked right up front! I looked around and didn't see any one who looked like a rider so I went inside. Fairly good sized store... didn't see a suspect. Bought what I needed and went out... no more bike. I headed for the nearest gas... and there it was! I talked to him a bit. He didn't know about this site (but he does now). Said he lived here in town, but sent most of his time on the road. Made me think of Wild Hair! It's an '83 1200. Robert said that riding 5k a month is not unusual. Just got back from Florida. Says the scooter has about 290,000 miles on it.

I wear 3rd Watch, size 13, all day almost everyday. No problems. The 3rd Watch web site for the T401 I wear is here. They don't sell them there, but you can get good info. I bought mine from a liquidator on eBay for about $40. Looks like $75 - $80 is the going price on the net. Here is one place you can get them.

I don't have any pics, but a few of us managed a couple of small town events on Saturday. At 1100 on Saturday, 12 bikes open the ceremony here by riding by the Veterans Memorial with flags flying and police escort. After the services we visited a bit and shared salutes, handshakes, and hugs before heading 35 miles down the road for another ceremony and benefit. We missed most of the ceremony, but we entered with flags flying and were escorted to a special parking area right near the FOOD! It's great to live in small town Texas where folks appreciate their vets and those that honor their vets!

Does adopted count? Not adopted in the usual sense, though. The Blue Star Families here have adopted me as their personal PGR/biker dude. They may not be blood, but I'm closer to many of them than some families are. I'm just thankful that all thats been needed from me so far is for parades, welcome homes and an occasional shoulder to lean on.

When I was going through medic training at Ft Sam, we had a C/O in class with us. In the world, he was a pharmacist. Normally pharmacists would come in as officers. He was told you can't be an officer and a C/O. He decided it was more important to stand by his faith. On graduation from basic medic training they decided he didn't need advanced training so they promoted him to Spec 5 and made him a pharmacist assistant (or whatever they called that mos). Real good guy.

This update is not the same as the program update you get using the webupdater. This is a full map update that comes on DVD. It updates the mapsource map on the computer and the gps. I didn't time it, but I bet it took over an hour to tranfer everything from the dvd to both the computer and zumo. I don't know why some get the update and some don't see it. Mine was over 90 days old when I ordered the update, but it could be the update was available within 90 days of my purchase, so I qualified. All I know for sure is I registered and unlocked my map software on June 22 and I was given a free DVD update to the 2008 maps. I wasn't expecting it and I'm happy! Good luck!

All I did was go to garmin.com > click on MyGarmin > logged in > clicked on map updates. Now of course, it says none available, but when I did it a few weeks ago it listed the 2008 North America update. I clicked that and followed the instructions. I don't remember when I did that, but when I got it, I was surprised that it arrived so quick. I had been expecting 6 weeks or so. Seems like it was 4 weeks or less. Don't know what else to tell you. I did create my account, registered and unlocked my software online, at the website. I seem to remember having trouble unlocking the mapsource software from the mapsource program.

Guess I'll have to amend my statement... except for one, those that have had problems were promptly taken care of with service over and above what most were expecting.

I bought my Zumo toward the end of June this year. I've been thinking about updating to the 2008 maps. A few weeks ago I was going through the Garmin site and decided to review the info in the MyGarmin account. Looked at the map updates in there and it said I was eligible for a free upgrade! I said yes, verified my info, and got it Friday. Installed it today. I haven't had a problem with my unit, but from what I hear, those that have had problems were promptly taken care of with service over and above what most were expecting. I think this free map upgrade is another example. If you own a Zumo and have it registered, you might want to check and see if you have a free upgrade coming.
