  1. Ok, I don't get it. I have the tree off the top, two bolts on lower tree are fully loose but I can NOT get the fork to move up, not budging one bit! Would removing front tire make it lighter and easier to lift? Or can I lower the bike onto ground and let gravity push the forks up? Confused...help please!
  2. Dang, twas looking forward to meeting y'all but, can't make it this year. So, I just canceled my room at the Oberlin Inn, if you needed one. C ya next year hopefully. Regards....
  3. Anyone in the Waukegan IL area, Lora Hunt, the woman who killed Anita Zaffke is going to trial on Monday, 9am, at the Waukegan courthouse. Read this excellent post with more additional information: http://www.ldrlongdistancerider.com/bikers_rights_motorcycle/rightsriders0133.php If you're in the area and can be there, a show of solidarity might help shine more light on this tragic, preventable case. Certainly, Anita's family would probably appreciate the support.
  4. Some new information and update on this. But first, here's your chance to have your voice heard. Contact the State's attorney and voice your frustration, these are elected officials... State's Attorney Michael J. Waller 18 N. County Street Waukegan, IL 60085 Ph 847.377.3000 statesattorney@lakecountyil.gov Additional update here: "Lora Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Morrison said. She was also hospitalized following the crash for non-life-threatening injuries" Which is where I hope/think, her blood/urine was tested, not the victims. "There's a lot of analysis they still have to work out on the vehicle involved in the crash to determine speed and braking," Morrison said Sunday evening. "The investigation is ongoing, but there should be charges against the woman in the very near future." A new article here with much more info: http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/05/motorcyclist-killed-by-driver-painting-fingernails.html Ironically, on my ride home yesterday, I had one of my closest calls yet. After turning right onto 4 lane road, guy in left lane who also just turned, decides to come into my lane with me. I had to accelerate wide open to get past him before he hit me. Thankfully, this beast has some power. Safe riding all.
  5. Not sure if this is already an ongoing thread but, sad news to report about a local biker, just a few miles from where I live/ride. There are some incredibly dumb people out there, be careful. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30558822/ Another article with her photo here: http://mobile.chicagotribune.com/inf/infomo;jsessionid=FD8A0179013AD9793388.2193?view=breakingnews_article&feed:a=chi_trib_1min&feed:c=latest_breaking_news&feed:i=C92EC7656B65D117A75BFECF7D993041&nopaging=1 Here's the text of the article. A motorcyclist was killed over the weekend after being struck by a car driven by a woman who was painting her fingernails at the time of the crash. Anita Zaffke, of Lake Zurich, was wearing a helmet when she was hit from behind by a Chevy Impala at a stop light Saturday evening at Route 12 and Old McHenry Road, the Chicago Tribune reported. "It appears to be a tragic accident and it appears (Zaffke) did nothing wrong," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott Morrison said. "She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she could not have done anything to avoid it." Her son, Greg, told the Tribune that his mother was wearing a bright yellow biker's jacket. Zaffke was thrown "a couple of hundred feet" by the impact, the Lake County Coroner said. The driver of the Impala, Lora Hunt, 48, of Morris, told police she was painting her fingernails as she approached the red light at that corner, and she apparently didn't see the motorcycle. Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said that Zaffke died from chest and abdominal injuries about an hour later at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Morrison said Hunt was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and could face additional charges. The Lake County State's Attorney's office says it's looking into criminal charges, as well. "We are looking into charges in the case," Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said this morning. "But we are waiting for results of blood and urine tests and waiting for the results of an accident reconstruction, as well as any other technical evidence we can derive from the scene."
  6. If you mean RICHEY, yes, I'm still planing on attending, have room reserved. Question, where on here can I find more information? Is there a posting in the Rally section? Can't find directions or anything...perhaps I'm blind today.
  7. 2nd ride of the year today, but MUCH nicer weather, yeehah! Discovered that my airhorns aren't working! Arggggh, that's my best safety feature. Hmmm, wonder if it and the 12v adapter share something, cause it's not working either....
  8. Ok, I'm not quite following where the location of the shim, or exactly what a shim in this case is. Like a washer, on the drive shaft? Thx for any clarification and/or photos...
  9. Soooooo glad Blago has been impeached! Did you happen to see his recent speech? OMG, this guy is completely nuts. Not a political rant in anyway, this is REALLY entertaining, in a crazy way.
  10. Dang ColdGuy23, that is a nice setup. Where was that two months ago when I was looking EVERYWHERE for heated gloves? Well, my gloves arrived today(2 months later), as recently promised. Guess the ranting email I sent recently, paid off. The product seems really impressive, so far. It's very simple. The rechargeable batteries are quite small, maybe 1"x1 1/4"x1/8". Each glove has a batter that attaches to the underside of the glove, by the wrist. Has 5 heat levels and you can REALLY feel the heat down the fingers, quickly. The price of these gloves, about $175 is fairly comparable when you look at the rechargeable batteries, to the one Coldguy23 found. However, the 12 volt option is really nice. I'm going to try these gloves out, oh, tonight! Since we're getting 8+ inches of snow and it's getting colder. Will report back later.
  11. Ok, for whatever reason, their cust. serv. # isn't working BUT, they responded to my flaming email. They are now sending me gloves via 2 day delivery and have already provided a tracking #. I am not paying for these until they arrive and are tested. I'll let you know more in 2 days.
  12. FYI, Back in Oct. I purchased heated glove liners for $175 from: http://www.vasoglove.com/ Their product looked awesome. However, it's now Jan. and I still have NOT received the gloves. Their customer service # is now disconnected and the guy I was talking to, doesn't answer calls any more. Luckily, I purchased this with a Credit Card and moments ago had the charge disputed/refunded. Bummer, I was REALLY looking forward to toasty fingers this spring, not to mention now, when throwing snow. Happy New year all, more snow coming........at least the snowboarding has been great! Cheers,
  13. http://www.gearpatrol.com/blog/2008/02/03/gibbs-technologies-quadski/ "Only" retails for about: $16k " What this means to you: With the ability to convert from land-mode to water-mode in about 5 seconds, you’ll never miss a change to make waves, on whatever terrain you choose. Maybe that’s why we hear they just landed a military contract. Price: $16,000 (estimated)"
  14. Good news, it will be almost 50 in Northern IL later today! Bad news, it was only 17 on my ride in this morning! Worse news, I'm at work, doh! Well, I did volunteer.... I can't wait for my heated glove liners to arrive. Happy Thanks giving to all. file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/I273136/Desktop/8_5_31.giffile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/I273136/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpg file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/I273136/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg
  15. Click here to see more recent proceedings. This guy and his whole disgusting family need to be locked up............and soon. http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/112608/new_359887963.shtml
  16. Nope and said so in my comments in a previous post: "if someone hit you on your bike, would you just drive away? Nope, you'd follow them and find their address...." I think most of us, if hit by someone, would follow them to see where they lived. Then, leaving out the same road you came in is perfectly normal. What's also sad is that this guy was wearing a helmet for protection. It's likely the helmet, bike/wind noise prevented him from hearing the first shots. Guess we need to add kevlar body armor to our list of equipment. Fortunately, it's sounding like this local police force is really on the ball and this guy should be going away for a long time. Sure hope they take the guns away from his crazy wife and loser daughters too. Also, is it me or are there a lot of crazy, super-aggressive young women driving these days? The worst tail-gaters I see are often very young women....
  17. Smartest quote I've heard in a long time. Problem is, the Union has been oblivious to this for years. Also, the Execs stretched the company too thin, reckless expansion. Plenty of blame to go around. Snarly Bill, sorry, I think you're way off on this becoming worse than the depression. Anecdotal evidence is meaningless. Six months ago, the experts were saying a barrel of oil would be $500 by now....is it? Let the badly run companies fail, restructure and revive or, simply die. I'm done with bailouts, didn't support the recent one. I certainly didn't support the chosen One either. Careful, we're slipping into politics here...
  18. Ok, by lower fairing I assume you mean the "cowling", where your right foot rests behind? Yes, no? Thanks!
  19. I read all the posts/replies to the article, most from local people. The murderer remembers firing two "warning" shots but conveniently forgets firing the fatal shot. Sounds like a family full of losers: the girls probably at fault in some serious way; the wife stupidly yelling at hubby to get his gun; the idiot firing at a passing bike. Who knows what happened exactly but, if someone hit you on your bike, would you just drive away? Nope, you'd follow them and find their address.... Sad story. Hopefully, the Dad goes to jail forever, the wife is sued and loses everything, the idiot daughters lose a father and feel the guilt of lying/crying wolf the rest of their lives. Keep us posted on this story, very riveting.
  20. It's snowboarding season! Well, soon.... However, I rode the bike tonight in low 30's and am hoping/planning to ride tomorrow...but that may change in the morning when it's 20's and I start thinking about my RAM's seat heater....
  21. Yeah, ok, that makes a LOT more sense to me. Seeing how the DC jack is in the left side of the fairing.... Still seems like an odd place to put the fuse...why not the fairing? Oh well. Thanks!
  22. Whew, I thought I was the only one! Me and a buddy were using my new HF remover and for 15 mins., couldn't figure out how in the H the bead breaker was supposed to go UP, to break the bead, as it didn't even reach the tire! Then, we noticed that small triangular piece of metal on the base....hmmm, maybe if you rest the tire there and oh, I dunno, push DOWN! DUh, worked amazingly well, broke the bead easy.
  23. That "may" change with the Kawasaki Voyager, it certainly is a lot more updated. I'm personally anxious to see/ride one. Hey, that Vmax article had this quote: "Tire-spinning corners exits have been part of my fantasy world that rarely transfer into actuality, but Mr. Max makes them ear-to-ear-grinningly real". What in the H is a "tire-spinning corners exits"? Other than something I try to avoid... That is one impressive bike. It's just so much power, too much for me. 180mph? Where would one ever be able to check that, besides Wyoming? Besides, I'd be too damn scared to enjoy the ride!
  24. Crapola, that's bad news. So, riders right cowling or cowling under the DC jack? AKA, the right side when looking at front of bike?
  25. Hey, I think my fuse is blown, as that jack no longer works. Is that fuse in the fairing?
