  1. Ok, 313 miles down and counting. I'm in Jackson MI on I55, time for a bite. Damn, there's a lot o police down here!!! Weather is holding out so far, overcast and windy, but dry.......for now. Bike is surrrrrrre fun, miles just click away. Ok, more later.
  2. 142 miles down, in Holden LA. Holy crap the people are friendly here. They sell live Crawdads at this gas stop too. Neat. Love this bike on the open road!!! Still a bit unsure in parking lots, beast is heavy, esp up top. But damn, this is fun! On the road again.

  4. Ok, I git on the road by 0630, ro miles down, only 1016 to go!!! Still in Crawford LA, washed wind screen, typed this, time to go! Chat more in a couple hours. Nice bike! Big, still have new bike jitters, getting better already!
  5. Agreed! Just bought/watched that DVD last night. All I can say is, WOW! Also, amazing what these big bikes are really capable of, if you use proper technique, not brute strength. Can't wait to actually get mine and find out first hand! 10 hours and counting down before I see her first hand.
  6. Gas? Oh, details, details...........Yeah, If I can stop at a motorcycle shop on the way, I'm getting some Ride On, fer sure. So, wish me luck boarding the plane tomorrow with my heated vest.....wonder what they'll think all the wires and small batteries are for? I'll plan to start a new thread Friday morning and if I have a signal, I'll send an update at every gas stop. Just finished watching Ride Like a Pro V. Wow, learned a lot, can't wait to get back on a bike, it's been two weeks!!! Cheers.
  7. Ok, this is just a test from my BB to see if this will work from the road, this is only a test. :-)
  8. Actually, I was thinking that would be kinda fun to do. Post updates as I head north. Route is essentially, from Lafayette LA to Grayslake IL: I-10 East I-55 North I-57 North I-94 North, sideroads home. Does anyone know, is it possible to simply email in a Post? Cause navigating these screens via Blackberry is too time consuming/difficult. But, I could easily email in my location at each gas/rest stop. Hmm, too bad there isn't a GPS tracking ability!
  9. I totally agree and WISH, I could take my time, enjoy the scenery....more. "If" the weather cooperates, I will enjoy as much as I can. Hey, I have an idea....maybe lame, but oh well. Can I email this list when/where I stop for each gas station, along my route? Won't have time to login via my blackberry but, I could simply send an email, kinda like a crude GPS tracking device... Lemme know. Lata,
  10. Yep, that's a hole in one!!! Perfect, bingo! Man, THAT is awesome. I've always wished I could take my bike to/from golf. Course, now I can't drink at the course............well, that's a good thing. Thanks a lot!
  11. Ok, list being adjusted........again. Great advice. Now, will I have to go to a NAPA or similar to find this or, Wally Marty? It's the original shield which, I plan to trim upon arrival in IL.
  12. More importantly, to me anyway. Is there an easy(inexpensive) way to carry my golf clubs on the hitch? Some of these cooler racks, with a few bungees look like they "might" work. Anyone tried something similar? Fourrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
  13. Cut a few lines from your quote for brevity but, great advice all. I am still toying with a GPS, I do love gadgets and this is one that can save time/frustration. I already have a mini mp3 so, it's coming along but won't mess with it the first hour or two. The bike does have a backrest, oversized at that. Great idea about the VR assistance, will do, hope I don't need it! I ordered Ride Like a Pro V Sun. night and begged em to get it here by Wed. night. I'm comfortable in my riding but, would love to learn a bit more before jumping up a couple hundred pounds and cc's. I'm going to ride as far as I feel comfortable on the first day, no more. Weather forecast is showing rain so, that WILL encourage me to end the day at 500 miles, max. Rain-x, keep forgetting to put that on my list. It's there now. As for getting the bike inspected before leaving, there just isn't time and I bought a one-way ticket. I'm a trusting guy, as the seller's a Venturerider member. Like "Earl", I believe in Karma. I assume by "Head heavy" you mean, cause of the fairing and such. I did rent an Electra-glide from Miami-Key West, with passenger and back. So I have "some" big bike experience, though I realize the RSV is a bit, weightier. Sorry, long response, I type fast.
  14. Hmm, hoping you're mis-remembering. Sure looks plush to me. Just the same, I did keep my Butt Buffer from my VSTAR 1100, which did not have a comfy seat. JeffC- Thanks! That is one thorough reply, much appreciated. TOTALLY agree with the under armour, used it last year on a 500 mile day, big difference. Will have to try the butt powder, what the heck. Have been using earplugs on long rides too, another big help, less fatigue. Not sure how I'll do the camelback, have to think about that one. Or, maybe a cupholder and a drink with a straw(full face helmet). Have rain gear but, need to pick up some good coverall gloves. A buddy used oversize dishwashing gloves, they work great, albeit ugly. Thanks again folks,
  15. Ok, that is sooooo cool. I didn't realize that. Heck, I figured if it's got a cassette player still, it won't have a MP3 attachment. Awesome. Buying a cord today! Also thinking, the mini-ipod I have, the smallest, might even fit within the lid of the cassette player. Thanks.
  16. Man, where am I NOT flying to! O'hare to Memphis; then to Atlanta; then finally Lafayette LA. Twas no direct method. But, it was only $176 so, weather willing.....it's all good. E
  17. Yeah, I hear ya: two days it is. Plus, what AM I THINKING, I have a two day pass to ride and I'm trying to push it! Duh. Just purchased the Ride like a pro V DVD, based on other threads. Wow, impressive. Hell, I already learned how to make better u-turns just by watching the preview. Question, still: Flats. Since I'm riding a long trip alone, flat repair. Is fix-a-flat spray advisable? All my long trips have been with buddies and I just haven't worried about that. Will definitely stop by Wally World and pickup a few tool essentials. Also, wish I could cut that huge shield down before hitting the road, would rather peer over than thru. But hey, it'll be a good road test to see if I might like that. Loving this site already. Erich
  18. Ok, I am flying down this week to pick up my first, VENTURE! It's a 2000 Millenium edition, with the tan leather seats.........gorgeous. So, I'm planning to depart S/W LA early Friday morning and well, see how far I can/want to ride on the first day. -My previous longest day was 500 miles, on my recently sold 2001 Vstar 1100. I need to be back in NE Illinois by about, 4pm on Sat. night. So, I have two days but I'm thinking, one day would be cool. Is riding 1000 miles in one day, worth the attempt on these machines? I'm thinking, cruise control will be a big help. Not to mention, a stereo! Have my mp3 and fm transmitter ready to pack. Any recommendations on what essentials/tools or similar that I should have with me and that the airlines will allow? Anyway, I'm really excited about my "new" ride and can't wait to put some of my miles on her. Cheers! Erich
  19. Great article, just soooo many things to think about. IMO, the best way to avoid trouble at an intersection, do NOT tailgate a car. The oncoming/left-turning traffic will not see you until it's too late. Also, something I've been doing that I think/feel helps at intersections or when approaching a car that's waiting to pull out onto the road: -Weave a bit. I simply weave a bit to give the bike more dimension and visibility, hopefully increasing the apparent distance/depth of my bike. Semper Fi, Erich
