  1. I own one of each. A 2000 RSV and a 2005 HD Ultra Classic. I decided to buy them to see if they would fit the Venture, but they didn't. I then put them on the HD. I used to see a company on EBAY that sold them specifically for the RSV and RSTD. I haven't seen that listing in a few months, so I don't know if they make them anymore. I've been looking, though. If it pops up there, I'll post here. I haven't found them on the web, either. Don from PA
  2. Let me know if anything changes. I'll hang on to them for a while just in case. And Mike's right, you have to buy the whole set, not just the clamps and screws. Don
  3. DanC, After 25 years of marriage, I think I am qualified to offer the following piece of advice: I learned this phrase very early on in our marriage, "Yes, Dear." It just keeps the peace! Good luck with whatever you decide. Don
  4. It is NOT LEGAL in PA! No more than three wheels in contact with the ground unless it meets the safety requirements of a motor VEHICLE, of course, (enclosed cab, steering wheel, 5 MPH bumpers, etc). Any motor CYCLE (including scooters, mopeds, sidecars and trikes) with more than three wheels is not legal in PA, period. Now, bear in mind, that my son and I had ours for almost two years. We were never pulled over for it. However, when I went to get it inspected (required annually in PA), NONE of the local dealers or shops would pass it. One even showed me the bulletin they got from PennDOT (PA's DMV) cautioning them not to pass motor driven cycles (PA's all inclusive term for motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, etc.) with more than three wheels in contact with the ground. As I noted in a previous post, a mechanic (and his shop) can both have their inspection licenses suspended/revoked for disregarding those PennDOT bulletins. I don't know if any LEO's would stop a Voyager "Trike" just for being on the vehicle. While I do know more than a few of them, I certainly don't know them all. I'm sure there are some that would. However, the real problem, and the reason I started this thread, is that the bike can't be inspected with the kit on. Where you probably would get stopped is when you don't have a current inspection sticker on it because PennDOT won't allow it to pass. That is where you can, and probably would be stopped and almost certainly cited ($100+ a pop). Also, if you get pulled over more than a certain number of times for it, there is a section in the PA Vehicle Code that allows them to fine you $500+ a pop, for refusing to bring your vehicle into compliance. That could get awfully expensive, which is why I wanted to caution other PA riders who might be considering this option. Finally, I want to repeat that I am not trashing the Voyager kit. My son and I loved it! If they ever make it legal in PA, I would certainly consider buying another one for my RSV. I hope this helps someone else who lives in PA. BTW, refer to the 12/2009 PA ABATE magazine with a story about this topic. It will confirm all of this if someone doubts my statements. Don from Harrisburg.
  5. Larry, I have a set, too. They are a little rusted, which is why I took them off. Replaced them and kept them for spares. You pay the shipping, and you can have 'em. I can send pics if you want first. My cell # is in my member profile. Don
  6. I've been using one of these for over a year with no problems... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Powerlet-Adapter-SAE-Cigarette-3-Cable-/260734586032?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb4fe0cb0 Hope this helps, Don
  7. I had the EXACT same problem with mine. Never could figure out what was wrong with it, so I ended up taking it off. They're not legal in PA anyway. I decided to add a second RIVCO rear running brake light instead. Good luck, Don.
  8. I am an avid hockey fan (Go Flyers!). My wife would say NUT, not fan. Anyway, I watch ALOT of games with the sports package she buys for me every year. I have noticed that at games being played in Canada, I have NEVER once, EVER, seen anyone, including celebrities, sing O, Canada with their own little "twist" to it. I think if one of them ever tried, our friends from the north wouldn't let them out of the building! Now that's patriotism! I also noticed that alot, maybe even most, of the the fans in attendance actually sing along, and the ones that don't, at least remain silent. I don't see that at most Flyers games anymore. People won't even be quiet for the anthem, let alone sing along. Also, when I watch the games on TV, most of the time, they don't even air the singing of the national anthems! I guess it's not PC to be patriotic in America anymore... sad. Good on ya' to our friends in the Great White North! Don from Harrisburg, PA.
  9. Please no nasty emails about my son's disability...I'm begging you: Title 75 (the PA Vehicle Code), Section 101 (Definitions): A Motor-driven Cycle is not to exceed three wheels, period. Anything with more than three wheels, must have an enclosed cab, steering wheel, 5 MPH bumpers, seatbelts, etc. Anything with a saddle, where the rider sits ON the vehicle, not IN it, is a motorcycle/scooter/motor-driven pedalcycl (moped) and can not have more than three wheels in contact with the ground. Believe me, I did not want to get rid of my Voyager Trike, but I could not get my bike inspected with it on. In my previous post, I explained why the rig is not a trailer, so that is not an option. I also wanted to address the dealers' notion that the ADA would make the rig legal. First of all, that's not how ADA works. Nothing is automatic. If someone believes their ADA rights are being violated by the state (in this case, PennDOT), they have to bring legal action ($$$) against the allegedly offending party. Bear in mind, the state legislature has granted the authority to PennDOT to determine what criteria need to be met in order for a vehicle to pass the anual safety inspection (PA Title 67). If I think that ADA is being violated, I have to sue PennDOT on my son's behalf, (again $$$). And just because I think it's an ADA issue (which it might be, of course), doesn't mean that a judge will agree. I have spoken to two of them personally, and they both said that barring any change in the statutes or case law, they would have to side with PennDOT if the issue were brought before them. That was why I began this post in the first place. I wanted to prevent any other PA riders from ending up in the same boat I was. I bought the "trike" so I could take my severely disabled son on rides without the risk of him sliding off or forcing us to fall over (he has limited lower body control). However, when I went to get it inspected, three different dealers told me that they could not inspect it with the kit on it. One even showed me the bulletin that they had received from PennDOT cautioning them not to inspect motorcycles with more than three wheels on the ground. Note: if the mechanic ignores one of those bulletins, they can have their inspection license suspended and even revoked. Please don't think that I am bad-mouthing Voyager or any of the other "trike" systems out there, my son and I loved riding it. I just don't want to see someone else spend several thousand dollars on one, only to find out they can't get it inspected in PA. BTW, I ran into the exact same problem when I wanted to put a car tire on the back of my sidecar setup. This time, I checked first, before I spent the money to put it on. Again, I was told that it could not be inspected due to PennDOT regulations, under the authority granted to them by the state legislature. I tried to get my local congressman to help, but he's on the other side of the aisle, so I couldn't even get him to return my emails, phone calls and letters. Oh well...we have the hack now, so we're good.
  10. While I wish you were right, in PA you're not, according to PennDOT. The PA Vehicle Code specifically describes a motorcycle as having no more than three wheels. Also, a trailer must be towed BEHIND the towing vehicle, not under it, beside it, or straddling it like the Voyager Trike kit. Also, a trailer must have a 17 digit VIN, so it can be titled and registered, which yours does not have. For all these reasons, I could not get my RSV inspected with the Voyager Trike kit on it. Too bad, too because I loved it. I've since gotten rid of it and bought a sidecar setup. ABATE has written and published an article on this, and we have asked our local congressman to help, but so far no luck. If the law does get changed, I'd probably buy another one, but in PA, your rig is currently NOT legally a motorcycle or a trailer, and any motorcycle with one on it can not be inspected legally. I got that straight from PennDOT's Chief Legal Counsel in Harrisburg. Don
  11. If it bothers you that much, you don't have to read it!
  12. Let's make sure those disabled Veterans get what they deserve! They've earned every penny! ANY politician, no matter which side of the aisle they're on, that would even think about taking away even the smallest portion of those well-deserved benefits should be absolutely ashamed of themselves! Let them find somewhere else to cut the budget! BTW, collecting from the VA and SS is NOT double dipping. To give an example, if someone at my work were to be injured at work to the point where they can no longer work, they would be placed on permanent disability. This is an insurance coverage that is partially paid for out of our checks, and partially by our employer. Now, that same worker, who has been paying into SS his entire adult working life, would also qualify for SSI benefits. They are two different insurance policies that cover us if we get hurt at work. Those servicemen should also be entitled to those same two coverages, and NO ONE should try to circumvent that, I don't care what the reason. Just my two cents! Don
  13. I'm sure someone will find a way to blame "global warming" for it.
  14. It got pulled right after my post. I did not say ANYTHING for or against law enforcement. A previous poster had implied that Timothy McVeigh was justified in what he had done because of what he called over zealous law enforcement (federal agencies, by the way) had done at Waco and Ruby Ridge. All I said was, using his logic, Muhammed Atta must have also been justified in what he/they did (in the mind of the poster of course, not mine). I do find it funny, though that the only "political" view points that seemed to get pulled are those coming from the right, which I am not. I am definitely in the middle. But, I have noticed that anything from the left, no matter how offensive, accusatory, or unproven, get lefts alone. Hmmm... I'm sure this will get pulled now.
  15. I have a 2000 RSV and a 2005 HD Electra Glide Ultra, with a Hannigan Sport sidecar on it. I have owned the RSV since 2007. I bought the HD with the sidecar in December of 2009. I needed it for my severely disabled son, who LOVES to ride, but does not have enough lower body strength/control to ride on two wheels. I bought the HD instead of simply installing a sidecar on the RSV for two reasons. First I did not want to give up two wheeling all together, and the RSV is paid off, so why not keep it for myself. Second, I don't believe the rear suspension of the RSV is adequate to support the added weight of a sidecar. This is just my opinion, but it is based on two main criteria: 1. The rear shock on the RSV is a JOKE! I've gone through two of them in 40,000 miles since 2007. I finally bought a Works shock, but that was after I bought the HD/hack setup. 2. The owner's manual form my RSV says not to exceed 420 pounds total (the HD is 525). I'm 220, my son is 200, now add the weight of the sidecar. Excessive weight is one thing I won't fool around with. Hope this helps. Don from PA.
  16. Hope you like yours half as much as I do mine. The difference is AMAZING, especially on these BAD Pennsylvania roads! I'll never go back to the stock shock. Don from PA
  17. Please tell your son thanks from the McCurdy family in Harrisburg, PA, too!!! God bless our troops!!! Don
  18. I have towed my 2000 RSV to the local dealer several times (not because it broke down, except once (ignition switch failed), but because I didn't want to inconvenience anyone by asking for rides to and from). Each time, I tied it down more or less like you did your Wing. What's wrong with the way you did it? And is that error specific to the Goldwing, or do I need to change the way I tie down my RSV? Thanks, Don BTW: SWEET Ride!
  19. It takes about an hour to do both sides because you have to take off the saddlebags. It is not difficult to get them off, but you want to be VERY careful with them, they are very expensive to replace/repair. Whether using BUBS or HD touring cans, you do not use the gasket that's inside the front of the Yamaha stock mufflers. If you try to, the new mufflers won't fit on the end of the stock pipe. Because of the close tolerances between the two, (with the HD's, you actually have to spread them abit to get them on, also not difficult), the front of the mufflers clamp on nice and tight to the pipes. Mine have never leaked without the gasket. I have not re-jetted the carbs, nor has anyone else that I know of. Some here will recommend the K&N air filters, but I have not done that. The reasons I haven't are: A. I've read too many articles (electronic and print media) that show they allow WAY too much dirt into the engine for the small horsepower gain they provide, and B. Because the bike runs great the way it is (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Hope this helps. Don from PA
  20. I bought my 2000 RSV used in 2007. It already had BUBS on it at the time. The endcaps were almost completely devoid of any chrome. I didn't like the looks of them, and I thought they were way too loud. I didn't know anything them about them at the time, so I sold them for very little money to someone here on VR. I wish I had known that they could be re-packed and the endcaps painted or powder coated. Oh well, live and learn. I then tried the stock exhaust but it was way too quiet for my taste. Next, I bought the HD touring mounting kit, also sold here, and put on a set of used Road King mufflers I got cheap from a friend. They were also too quiet, even with both baffles removed. Finally, I picked up a set of BUB HD Sleeper slip-ons from EBAY. The fiberglass inside was still intact so I loved the sound (finally). However, it did not take long for the endcaps to begin peeling. I got a set of these (also on EBAY for only $40!). They've been on for more than a year and almost 12,000 miles with not a hint of peeling. I know you can't get them from BUB anymore, but you might get lucky and find them cheap on line like I did. Love my BUBs now. 21. I think if people really want to help others, they wouldn't have to look too hard to find people here that need some help.
  22. Bobby G, While I am certainly no expert, the conditions you described are remarkably similar to what my 2000 RSV was doing back in 2008. It happened several times over a couple of weeks, but it would always restart without a problem. Then one day, it finally shut down and would not restart. I had to have it towed to the local dealer. It turned out to be the ignition switch, which they replaced. I have since done the ignition switch by-pass mod, and have had no more problems. One thing that seems to be a common indicator of a bad ignition switch (based on postings here) seems to be that when it finally does quit, the only thing still working is the lcd display on the radio face, which is what mine did. Good luck, hope you find the problem without to much time or money involved. Don from PA
  23. Kat, First of all, let me extend my condolences for your loss. Something like this is never easy to handle. It sounds like you're doing everything you can to help her husband. Good on you, for that. Second, I'm in south central PA, so I wouldn't be able to attend the ride he is planning. Is there going to be a fund we can contribute to in lieu of the ride? Finally, has anyone considered contacting the PGR for her services in Ohio? I've ridden several missions with them out there, and they are very good at what they do (as are all PGR, in my opinion). Take care of yourself, you need time to heal, too. Don from PA
  24. Mark, Just go to the national website, www.patriotguard.org and sign up. It tells you exactly what to do and how to do it. Any questions, don't hestitate to call (my cell is in my profile) or PM me. Thanks for your interest in the PGR. Don from PA
  25. In a word, CHROME. I believe its only on the front end, forks, sliders, etc. I have a 2000 RSV, which of course, does not have the chrome front end. I think the Midnight edition from 2005-2007 also had the chrome front end. That's the only difference, I think. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sure other will let us know, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. Don
