  1. I haven't had time for much riding but spent the last weekend around Kootenay lake in the BC interior. This pic was taken in Kaslo by a hamburger stand! Great roads through the area: New Denver, Creston, Lumby. The stretch from Nakusp to Lumby has partially been repaved and is smooth as silk!!!!!!
  2. Thanks for the update. I am glad that he is progressing and responding to you. You are all still in our thoughts.
  3. yup, you're right, I checked the card and it says Jackpine Road Gypsies. Couple of real nice guys! The card I have is from Bob Moore, beemer rider.
  4. When we were in Worland, Wymoing this year we met a couple of older fellows staying at the same hotel and chatted them up about where they were going and such. As they left in the morning one of them handed me a card and said "you can tell everyone you met one of the founders of the Sturgis Road Gypsies". These guys started the rally there! What they were riding? An older BMW and a VMax.... I always thought Sturgis was a Harley event. I think it just got taken over...
  5. our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care of yourself.
  6. terrible news! I hope is is doing OK and getting good care. Prayers and thoughts sent!
  7. that's amazing that you were not hurt worse - deer vs motorcycle crashes are usually tragic for both parties. Glad to hear you are alright!
  8. good idea - I will call them tomorrow. You would think they might have one if they have a Venture they are stripping. Thanks everybody - especially for catching my mistake!! lol, that would have been funny if I had ordered it...
  9. OMG - I think you're right, it's got the same hole that those bars have! OK, thanks all, foget I said anything.....
  10. Awesome, thanks, I knew I'd find help here! It's definitely not caput. It is just crooked in a way that I can't seem to get it back to factory. I have bent it back in place but the cowling still seems asymmetrical with the opposite side. I should post a couple of pics... The bar looks good in place but the cowling seems higher than the left side and slightly further forward. It's really not a big deal but annoying... I don't want to spend $260 for the Yamaha part!
  11. I tried to do that and pretty much concluded "no"... :-(
  12. Sorry, probably not the right folder but.... Has anyone dealt with this eBay seller? Pinwall Cycleparts http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=350090091169&Category=10066 They list a crash bar that would replace my, ahem, "bent" one... It's a bit hard to tell from the pics how bad the "road rash" is but it looks straight - can you see any thing wrong with it?
  13. Thanks! Yup, I rode to work today, it's all good. Although my following distance was probably 10 seconds instead of my usual 2! There is a local body shop that does good work and I will probably get him to fix in the winter time. A good excuse to put the y-adapter in the AUX jack too!
  14. that's for sure, the fairing is $1000 CDN ! My mechanic said it looks kinda "tribal" and it would be cool if I could get a matching one on the other side, hmmm, sounds like it is possible... haha
  15. thanks all - and, Buzzard, lol I wish! this one was drunk as a skunk and staggering all over! I have low standards but not that low - haha
  16. leads to grief... I got distracted by a pedestrian who I thought was going to fall into the roadway when I looked back the car in front of me had stopped! There was a car to my left and I had no where to go. I have practiced emergency stops on this bike a lot since I got it but the rear locked up twice and at the end of the second lock up (this is in 2 seconds...) it caught and threw me. It's my first high side! I can remember thinking "this is stupid" as I got launched onto the road and rolled onto my back. There are some serious scratches on the fairing and I bent the right crash bar so my cowling doesn't look right but overall it's not bad considering the bike almost went right over. I can still hear the sound of the bike hitting the pavement. They are not very pretty upside down... My left ankle is sore and I have a scratch on my right wrist. Not even a scratch on my helmet. Glad I had leather on though... It could have been worse...
  17. Why are you ditching the FT10? Here's a couple of pics of mine I installed this last winter. It was a bit of a pain as the connecting cable between the control head and the transciever is not long enough. I added about 6 feet of CAT5 cable (lots of soldering!) to get them connected. I just tucked the transceiver into the trunk behind the cloth storage pockets and secured it to the wall with a huge piece of velcro! I also put the bluetooth module in and use it with my Nolan helmet and can still use the CB when I plug in the multimedia wire from Nolan. Without the CB I am totally wireless and it works very well. The VOX is also not bad although I wouldn't use it on a repeater but it works well on simplex. I forgot to get a pic of the antenna but it's just a Comet rubber duck on an angle mount attached to the trunk rack. _____________ I forgot - I wired it straight to the battery and the radio killed the battery in less than a day. I don't know why there is so much draw but I then routed it to the plug in that is already there beside the battery and now it comes on with the accessory position of the key. A buddy bought the mic for his and didn't want it so that's why that's hooked up in the trunk. Either PTT will work: helmet, front panel, VOX, or rear mike. It's all good!
  18. Most drivers here feel a yellow lights means "give 'er, you might not make it and be really late for that very important appt." DWHUA - "driving with head up $%#" I remember and MVC where a young girl rear ended a fellow who stopped for a yellow light. She was standing there, still on the cell phone witnesses said she was on before the impact, coffee splashed all over the inside of the windshield in front of the driver's seat, and telling me that the guy she hit shouldn't have stopped so quick!
  19. I have one - worked great when my kids were smaller. My daughter just could not sit still and would be looking all over the place - she has NO fear! If someone wants mine, they can have it (not planning any more additions!)...
  20. ouch, we'll have to see how the battery lasts, I have been using on my commute for the last 2 weeks without charging it yet but we are headed to Montana next week so that'll be the test. I have had mine turn off a couple of times too but I found that the foam padding underneath the bluetooth thingy was pushing the device out - I think it is better seated now and hasn't turned off for a few days. It's gadgety so I have had to play with it a bit sometimes... But I am a techie anyways so I don't mind too much!! I find the helmet can be pretty hot too - I am used to a shortie helmet....
  21. I just bought (and paid way too much for) a Nolan N-42 helmet and installed the basic and bluetooth kit in it. I can't say enough about how well this works. I thought it would be impossible to have my phone connected to my helmet and still be able to use the CB. The CB/intercom is still connected by a wire (had to buy the multimedia wire for the Gold Wing) but it works flawlessly. I can dial the phone with the voice dialing, answer a call, hang it up, and still have the CB hooked up and working. I really didn't think it would be possible to have all this going at once. I don't want a cell phone along on a holiday trip but it's nice when I am commuting... Playing the music through the helmet is pretty tinny but voice from the phone and CB is very clear. Everyone says they can't believe I am on my motorcycle. Can't wait for the BT module to come in for my Yaesu ham radio and see if that works!!
  22. ditto on that - mine had the same leak that continued after they retourqed the bolts. After they replaced the head gasket it's all good - 13000 km now and no leaks...
  23. 5 of us... just watching the qualifying now, I record all the F1 stuff on Speed as well. It has become quite a train these days but I love the sights and sounds just the same. Perhaps they will reduce some of the aerodynamics so the cars can run closer.... BTW, F1 doesn't have traction control anymore...
  24. awesome, glad it worked because I went and tried it and should have put that you need to hold the select button for more than 2 seconds... Glad you figured it out, have fun!
  25. push audio until FM or AM is selected, then you can do it a couple of ways. 1. if you hold the UP (or down) button for more than one second the frequency will start to change until it finds a station. Once on that station you can hold the SELECT button for more than one second and then the number to the left of the frequency display will flash and then you can use the up and down buttons again to choose the memory you are saving to (1 through 6 for each FM group). Then you push select again to lock it in. 2. push and hold the SELECT button for about 1 second and then when the numbers on the left of the display start flashing push the down button until there is an "A" in that spot. The cycle is 1...2...3...4...5...6...A if you use the UP button. After you do that the radio will scan through the band and save every station it finds into each of the 6 memories until it has filled them. I hope that makes sense - it's harder to write out than demonstrate.... Maybe I should make a video. My dealer tried to show me when I bought the bike but he had it all wrong and the manual isn't very well written... Good luck, let me know how it goes...
