  1. First I'd go ahead and install them and see how you like them stock. If you want a bit more sound just get a long spike and pierce the front baffle.
  2. I picked up my 04 with the pillow top a few months ago and road across Australia for a total of close to 3,000 miles in four days to ride it home. The pillow top has to be the most comfortable seat on a bike I ever sat on.
  3. I just ordered a set of rebaffled Road King pipes from bobvicr@aol.com off ebay for $125 stage 2 equivalent to Screamin Eagles. Do an ebay search under "Harley performance mufflers road king". There a number of guys who seem to produce pipes suitable for the Venture. Harley pipes here in Australia are $450 and bub sleepers $650 so $125 plus freight here is still a bargain. I should receive mine next week and I'll let you know how they sound.
  4. You look like a real larrakin in '71. Now your mellow. Onya Spear!
  5. This is a real touring rig, not a sports tourer. You can get on this bike and ride all day long. So can the wife. No need for pit stops every hour. Real world riding, get on the gas to overtake a truck - still better acceleration than your average 5 litre V8. Sit on 80mph all day no problem. Wanna do an eleven second qtr mile keep your fjr.
  6. I did that when I also put on the skinny front Avon. Steering became too light so I lifted the front end back up. Also couldn't access the nipples to inflate the suspension.
  7. I've been riding my '04 for a few months now and have it nicely set up (no bling yet). It will take a lot to make me want to sell this bike. I have a suzuki 109r with fuel injection etc. all the modern engineering - but you can't beat the feeling when you sit on a RSV. Even an 1800 vmax motor and fuel injection won't make me update unless it is going to be 200 lbs lighter. Why haven't they changed it in 8 years - because they don't need to.
  8. depends if they want to continue with the Harley look or go back to compete with the Wing. Be cheaper to spruce up a Stratoliner.
  9. Sorry Guys - its only 106 in the shade here in Perth Western Australia. Warm enough to melt your tyres.
  10. I'll be surprised if the 08 unit is any different to the revised 05. Even after having 5 years of claims, the best Yamaha would do is only redesign the rubber boot. The new boot does not have breathing holes but uses a snorkel instead which is also filtered at its end. Perth had its hottest recorded Boxing Day at 44.2 degrees (111.5). Our friends 20kms inland had 47 degrees (116.6)
  11. My rear shock arrived from Flatout today. Cleared customs at 2:30 am this morning and arrived at my door by 1:30 pm. Thats really good service for this time of year, both for USPS and Australia Post. The unit is definately the OEM revised Yamaha unit for 05 onwards models . The rubber boot is sealed and it has the new snorkel vent instead. Oh yeah - the Kwaka guy must have forgotten his wallet.
  12. Hi Spear Steve from Perth here. When I ordered my shock from Flatout they had none in stock. I've since had the shipment confirmed and it left Chicago on 22nd December. Delivery g'td by 2nd Jan. I'll be interested to see what arrives. It has a new part no. 99999-03500-00 which is the redesigned unit put on the 05 onwards or so I understand. I just have to wair and see. Merry Xmas to you all.
  13. G'day Spear I believe its an oem shocky. Its also the new variety installed on the '05 model onwards. Cost is $369.63 or $395.04 with all the new bolts if required. Shipping is $45.00 for a total of $440.54 which is roughly $A500.00. Most parts I've ordered from the States usually has arrived within a week so I'm hopeful. And you're right - I should and probably will email Yamaha Aust. Bikes only done 29,000 kms.
  14. Well I guess I really am joining the club. After my ride from Brisbane on arriving home in Perth I noticed a small leak coming from the rear shock. Not knowing what I now know (thanks to all here) my mechanic sent it off to Sydney to be rebuilt. After a long silence I called him up - wots the go bro? Can't be rebuilt! Damn. Anyway I saved my mechanic a long time searching for a replacement after reading "Spears" troubles in Australia replacing his and immediately ordered one from FlatoutMotorcycles. Hopefully it will arrive here next week and my bike will be back on the road in time for Xmas. Summer holidays here.
  15. Had a sit on one before I bought my 04 venture. Its a sports bike with luggage. Also looked at all the BM's and sold my ST1100 to get my Venture. The Venture has to be the most comfortable touring rig out there.
  16. Perth Western Australia here. Currently 37 degrees C - an its only springtime. You can compare this place to San Diego but with a population of only 1 1/2 million. A bit hot for riding, but good for drinking beer. How do you put the temp on the screen? Steve
  17. I'm new to this board but what I'm reading is that everyone here loves their bike. If you still can get enjoyment from riding a 1st gen or 2nd gen who gives a damn about what the future has in store. Lets face it, whatever is your choice - even a new bike will be a compromise and there will be parts of it you don't like or want changed. I have a modded Suzuki m109r v twin that will rip up the tarmac but it will never take me and my missus down the road in comfort. Enjoy what you have now and stop worring about what might be.
  18. Went from Brisbane to Warwick and then on thru Tamworth the country music capital.
  19. Well after my odyssey of 3,000 miles in 4 days after I picked up my 04 Venture last week I was very impressed with the comfort offered by this bike. Well now I've added handling as well. Thanks to all those members who have provided us newbies with all the necessary info on this site to help us get the best out of our bikes and enjoy the riding experience. I took your advice and ditched the Brickstones and fitted Avon Venoms with the narrow tyre at the front. Also, being a bit of a short a$$ I lowered the front end 1 inch. As well as comfort I now have a bike that also handles. An added benefit of pulling the front end apart was finding two hornets nests that needed cleaning out. One in the fairing and one in the throttle housing. Maybe thats why some of you guys have the chirp. Last of all I ditched the oil and oil filter and replaced with Mobil 1 10-50. I'm sure its running quieter now. Thanks to everyone here.
  20. Picked up my bike last week. Throwing the Brickstones away and fitting the venoms on Wednesday.
  21. That was the longest ride of my life:whistling:
  22. Thanks Spear I really enjoyed the ride and would have liked to have caught up with you. I'm sure my bikes identical to yours. It was originally a dealer import as Yamaha weren't bringing them into the country at that time. I think there's only 3 or 4 white ones in the country. I need to change the tyres as I'm not happy with the Bridgestones. Will have to see if Avons are available locally. Would also like to drop the front end an inch or so. At 16 kms/litre average the range is around 360 running dry.Happy with that. Cheers Steve
  23. Well almost. Picked up my 04 Venture from just north of Brisbane, Queensland and rode it back home across Australia to my hometown of Perth. I did the trip in 4 days for a total of 4,780 kilometres or 2,968 miles. The bike ran perfectly with nothing coming loose or worse falling off (including me). I kept a record of all my fuel stops and my gas useage worked out at 38 mpg U.S. 45 mpg Imperial 16 kms/litre I pretty much kept to the speed limit and probably sat on around 70 mph. Saw plenty of wildlife on the road to avoid including - kangaroos, mobs of wild goats, emus, cows, wombats even a dingo and an echidna. Never having ridden a Venture before I can say I am very pleased with the bikes performance. I did notice that on some road surfaces there was a lot of road noise coming from the tyres and setting up a loud resonance thru the fairing at certain speeds. The bike is fitted with Bridgestones. Is there a more quiet tyre or is this normal? Also, I notice the tyres have a very high profile. Is it possible to lower the bike a little by fitting tyres with a lower profile? All in all I am very happy and would do the trip again but at a more leisurely pace.
  24. Well here in the land of Oz it is really quite difficult to go and buy yourself a RSV. Checked with a lot of dealers all over the country and there are no stocks. The very last 07 RSV was shipped out of here to New Zealand. I'm a bit disappointed that Yamaha Australia are still listing the 07 XVZ 1300TF on their inventory but are no longer importing them to Australia. So looking for any used bikes around the whole country there are only 3 for sale that I can find. I'm doing a deal for a white 04 with around 25,000 kms on the clock (15,500 miles). The only problem is it is 3,000 miles away. Gee, I must be keen:thumbsup2:. I've booked my flight for Monday week and am going to ride it back from north of Brisbane to Perth. (will soon find out if I like the bike or not). Have to decide if I will have time to return on the coast road or cut across country and save myself 1,000 kms. Just wish I had a few weeks instead of a few days to ride back.
