Need help finding saddlebag bolt
BEER30 replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm going the cheaper route making me some tonight . I got the hex head equilant bolts and 1" stainless steel split key rings . Drill a hole partial way on each side of the hex head on the opposite sides , cut the key rings in half between the two ends as this will make 2 rings . Spread the rings enough to place each end of the split ring into each hole drilled on each side . The rings should lay down flat and not stick up grabbing saddle bag liners or other obsticles and provide a little bit room . All you would have to do is lift up the rings to grasp and turn . Spec's say you only need to torque 4.7 ft. lbs to tighten . I got all these items at Lowes Hardware under $7.00 . My dealer's service dept. just over tightened all of my bolts and caused me to strip one out . They wanted to blame me , but they were barking up the wrong tree ! :rotf: Gene -
I've been pondering the same idea . I have a friend whom does exhaust , and I am about to switch to OEM RK pipes on the scoot . My idea is Stainless Steel exhaust tips used on cages . I will be measuring the OD of the RK pipes and comparing them to the ID of the Stainless Steel tips . f they are close enough , I might get a set and play with them . I will be working on the slash-cut , but I will see if he can get the turn-down tips . Just hope to see how the transaction will look like at the overlap . Gene

Cougar , I have the Kennedy Cellset myself . Both rider and passenger can hear and talk via the unit . The Zumo is set up to accept both my wife's and my cellphones . To receive phone calls with the Kennedy or BuddyRich's unit , the Zumo has to be linked via the AUX . No way out of it , as the Zumo controls the bluetooth . The cellset is more expensive than BuddyRich unit is . I would suggest using Buddy's for the cost . Also to add , with the Kennedy Cellset , I went a step further to get the unit for future add ons such as audio for Radar Detector or other devices . Gene

That shouldn't be to hard to do , even if we start from the back and give them a 10 mile head start ! :rotf: Gene

They make a rubberized spray paint used for under coating cages . Some of these under coatings are paintable . You can get them at your local hardware store . I used it as the paint base of the BEERCART even though it is fiberglassed . Fiberglass resin gel coat is another option . Gene

It would be great to have you both to ride along with . Plus be able to return Brandi's jacket , if I do not get it back to you sooner . I have here at the shop if you want to drop by or Becky and I can drop it off if we knew your address . I plum forgot about the EIB rally . Gene

Just talked to a LEO friend of mine whom just so happens to be one of the escorts , leading the pack for this ride . He stated that so far it looks to be a good turn out , as a possible 1,000 bike will be participating . Though it will considered a short ride starting at the Beruit Memorial , food and entertainment will be at the end , arriving at New River Harley . Also I need to know how many will be staying at our house for the night , so I can arrange sleeping . George and Bobbie already confirmed . Gene

It will be a controlled motorcade with escort from what I understand and we get to run red lights ! A special pass upon each registration was allowed for such an event . Read the website Muffinman provided as it is stated within . Gene

Hey RiderDuke , we (Muffins and I) had a short discussion in chat about the ride and suggested plans on having a party at my house afterwards . Perhaps throw some steak on the pit , chase it down with Beer or other intoxicating beverage (we are not a dry county), and perhaps get crazy and jump into the pool . We can put some people up for the night , either bring a bed role , or let me know and I will go rent some cots . Or you can sleep on your scoot as the garage has A/C too . Or just pass out wherever you fall ! Gene

Talked to Tim on the phone today and he said he will more than likely be here too . And on the subject of RiderDuke , Let's volunteer him to bring some more ribbs and we can BBQ them here at my house after the ride ! Anyone second that ? Gene

Just downloaded the registration , so I will be there / here ! Motorcade will becoming right by my house on Hwy 172 . Need a place to bunk out for the night Jeff ? We do have a DQ in town , but no ice cream trucks ! Gene

Just in case , I would like to propose a raffle to help raise Bail Bond monies to help retreive our notorious leader "FreeBird" out of jail . Just in case he get's out of hand again . I heard the APD are a lot less persuasive than "Park Rangers" ! Either hold the Bail Bond Raffle or hold the event where FreeBird and the gang can make some noise ! :cool10: Gene

What's a Rally without BEER ! I'm in ! Gene

Good ole White Distilled Vinegar works well to kill salts . I use it to flush out my inboard motor on the "Bouncing Bobbers" . Also use it to wash with my leather to kill the salts . I made an adaptor using a specticide sprrayer , inline with my water hose as I flush . You know the ones you hook onto the end of a waterhose . Just add the vinegar and it siphons it into the boat motor's water jacket . I spray "Liquid Film" on my bare metals on the boat trailer . Might look a little messing and better looking than rust , but heck of a lot cheaper in having to replace trailer parts . Gene

Can someone help with an electrical mod?
BEER30 replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have connections as usual to obtain a couple of the Marine and Elitemax versions each for myself . I was thinking of becoming a dealer of these lights , but had other things to do . Here's the link to these lights , http://www.techass.com/ . Gene -
Can someone help with an electrical mod?

I keep a LED strobe light in my saddle bag that I can rest on the trunk when I stop on the side of the road for misc. reasons . My LED strobe has many functions , flashlight , SOS , Dazzle , Strobe , and blink . I can adjust the amount of light needed . I have the marine version that last up to 1200 hours on 3 AA batteries as well that I keep in the scoot of which is waterproof . There's another version I have for the PU that last 750 hours . I prefer to use this light rather than monkeying around with the MC electrical . Just a thought ! You could also add a Red LED trunk light with it's own switch/power supply and be less complicated . It sounds more like you have a problem more with the GPS if it blacks out on the handlebars . I have a Radar Detector , GPS , and Camcorder on my handlebars with no problems at all . If all possible , make a mount that will secure as close as you can to the handlebar clamps to reduce vibration . The further out , the more vibration you get , but you also cover up your instrument panel as well . Having the GPS up on the handlebars also keeps the eyes closer on the road . Gene

I have my Zumo mounted just as GunnyButch has his . I have to agree about the plastic piece as well and also look about how it will interfere with refueling and the ignition . Gene

I will have no problem with the tongue weight pulling with the truck (1/2 ton , 4x4) with trailering package . My boat has more tongue weight than the 180 lbs. Beercart added to my double axle ult./MC trailer . Even though it has 12" tires , it is rated at 5,000 lbs . However I will have to move the MC wheel choke back about 4-5 inches for better clearance . The shifting of the heavier MC will help a tiny bit . If it doesn't rain tomorrow , I will have it finished . Just paint , finish the new ramps and tie-down brackets left to do . I have hauled a Kabota tractor with skip loader on front on this trailer with no problems as well . Gene
