That's painter's tape so when you wreck, you don't spray glass all over the track. I'd love to run my Venture on a track like that. I can lay my bike completely over onto the frame and mufflers on the street. It'd be great fun to run it on a track and really open it up.

Yep, you have to remove the 2 upper engine mounts. You may have to remove the tank, I don't remember, or you may just be able to remove the 2 front mounting bolts to the tank and raise it up far enough. Last time I just removed tank. As far as the Iridium plugs, I've seen a couple sets of those burn off the electrode before on the Yamaha Roadstar Warriors. I dont believe the spark plugs alone will cause a difference in gas mileage without other modifications to the engine. I can get the standard NGK plugs at most auto part stores for 2 bucks.

These are the factory plugs and they seem to work the best in my opinion.

flb_78 replied to safetyguy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just use whatever is handy. All coolants nowadays are formulated to be compatible with aluminum.- 17 replies

Part Number for RSTD '08 Oil Filter
flb_78 replied to steveb74678's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Purolator does not make a PureOne filter that is an exact replacement. If you put this filter on your engine, you could default on the warranty. I run one on my 99, the number is PL14610, the PL14612 will also work, but it's shorter. Once again, Purolator will not say this filter will cross, so if you have an engine failure, your dealer could refuse warranty. I believe the PureOne filters are a superior filter though and I don't believe that a failure will result from using this filter. I've used 1 for the last 20,000 miles. Actually, I've used several of them, not just one. -
Walmart has my air compressor on sale for $15. You could buy one for the other bike. It has the built in gauge and a LED light. Ive used mine several times. http://www.buyzillion.com/Images/B000ET9SAU/medium.jpg

I was pulled over for 76 in a 70 last weekend. Just a warning though.

You will be very hard pressed to find a shop that will repair a motorcycle tire. I have had a string plug in my rear tire now for about 14000 miles. Tire is almost bald smooth and hasn't lost air yet. Im running a steel belted car tire though. I have plugged regular motorcycle tires with no ill effects as well though. You should probably just take it off and mail it to me and I'll dispose of the tire for you in an environmentally correct fashion.

He fired the kiln up again, It was shooting a good 4 foot flame out the top the 2nd time. He took a very good pic of it. Hopefully he'll post it soon.

Aight, Gun Club meeting should be over around 9:30 give or take so this will work out pretty good. I forgot but do you have an air compressor and a blow gun?
-
Im still in. I'll be bringin some spark plugs to change out instead of a tire.
-
I mean... No, I would not ride on that tire if I were you. You should pull it off and mail it to me. I'll pay shipping.
-
Id ride on it. It's not into the cords.

I put 404's on my Roadstar and only did about 4000 miles before the rear was bald. Front only went about 8000.

Buddy of mine down in Dallas has one in his garage bolted to the floor. He says to chunk the bars that come with it and get the NoMar bars and it works great. He has a get together about once every 2 months to show and let others change tires.

Mixing different viscosities of the same brand of oil will be fine, but mixing different brands of oil is a big no no. Each brand will use it's own mix of additives and sometimes the additives will not mix with each other. This was a big problem with Quaker State for a while. The final drive is vented. It won't build pressure. Overfilling it will only result is some oil being pushed out on the wheel.
