  1. I am also looking for a lock for the side saddle bags on my 1989. The pin in the folding mechanism broke. It is the removable top type of the later first gens. I think any one of the hinged locks would work from either side and I can then change out the tumblers for mine.
  2. The one I need has two parts a outer disc that contacts with the pads which is connected by rivets to the inner disc that bolts to the wheel. The earlier models had a one piece design. Why they screwed that up I will never understand. Thanks for looking I could sure use the part.
  3. I am in need of a 86 or newer rear brake rotor disc. Mine started loosening at the rivets. I don't think the rotor disc is supposed to wiggle . Anything in good condition in that warehouse of yours?
  4. I have seen several people trading parts with a virago. Maybe there is an avenue there to get some parts that are not faring bound. Good Luck.
  5. I just did the battery fix and it worked great! I used a radio shack 1/2 watt 1K ohm resistor in line to the accessory panel. I saw where the previous owner put in a small 18 ohm resistor in line with the sensor it did not make much sense so I just followed the guide Freebird linked to and whala. I did go ahead and do the soldering even though I am not real good with it and usually end up with a bit more solder than I need. But this actually turned out rather well. I had to clean the panel up with a knife to get to fresh metal as the solder would not stick with the dirty surface. After that I dropped a med size bead directly on the plate and soldered the wire to it. Give it another try...if I can do it anyone can.
  6. I found it.. I had to take the rear part of the exhaust off to get under the thing but I found it. The pull plunger that controls the switch is not returning on its own. I had to bend the spring around the lower connection that actually moves with the brake peddle to make it manually return and do some precise adjustments on the plastic switch adjustment screw to make it work but it does. I think the spring in the brake switch is bad but the unit looks sealed and I don't think I can get it back together if I take it apart. I do not think I need a new switch right now but I will keep an eye out just in case I see a good deal. Now I just have to wait for the Odyssey battery to arrive should be today or tomorrow, finish the battery warning light fix and I will be back in good shape. Don't worry I may have had to push start the bike once or twice at the gas station after getting gas but this little issue can not keep me off the road with great riding days like we have had in the last two weeks. Thanks again guys for all your help:bighug:
  7. Eck as always thanks for the advice. I do not have floor boards on my first gen. (but I am always happy to take donations:whistling:) but I think that should help me understand that I am looking for a spring on a switch. I will look again and see if I missed something. When I looked I could not see a switch or anything that looked like a button switch. I may have to look deeper into the engine area as there is something that looks like it is a adjustable screw with a stop action plate on it that is part of the rear brake linkage, but it is back inside a bit under the black oil fill cover and even then I can not see all of it to tell if it is a switch or not. Fixit, I though the same thing at first but I have returned the pedal to the full up position by hand and there is no slack and the light still remains on. I have to push it several times real quick to get it to go off. Man I wish it was that simple. I just got the starter clutch parts repaired and now this I am going nuts trying to get this bike ready for riding this year. Oh well after it is all done the joy of getting on the road for another riding season will be worth it.
  8. Thanks Freebird! I was looking at some of the prices and I found a Odyssey PC680 w/metal jacket for about $120 delivered. Thank you for the advice. The link to the warning light bypass was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
  9. O.K. I figured out why my battery is showing such low voltage and then hight voltage on the dash volt meter. The back brake light is not always going off. I am trying to make heads or tails out of the manual but I can not seem to find where the switch is for the brake light. I need to know where the pedal sensor is and the grounding point for the circuit. It appears that both the handle and the pedal cause a drain on the system and the light stays on most of the time after I let off the brake. After several giggles or a few jars on the road the light goes back off. I am wondering if it is a ground issue rather than a switch. If I knew where each of the switch parts were and where the ground connection was, I could try some more troubleshooting but I can not tell from the manual. Anyone else had a similar issue?
  10. In my quest for the (cheapest) right part I am needing to know the answer to one of two questions. 1. The place to get the cheapest replacement battery for the Venture First gen with hole for the battery sensor. 2. Best battery for the money and a way to bypass the sensor so it does not keep blinking at me. Any ideas?
  11. I contacted Bikebandit by instant txt help. Dave was great. I found out that the Starter Clutch Assembly is all the parts I just bought, springs, caps, and dowels plus the added bonus of the clutch plate that I need. The only way to get the plate is to buy the assembly, which includes $36 in parts I already have. Dave said no problem he would note my account and he waived the 15 day return policy so I can return the parts and buy the assembly. The price is only shipping more than the local dealer. So I can't go wrong. Hopefully this will get me running again and with a few more bolts holding things together. I can't thank the guys here at VentureRider enough:bighug: Thanks guys for all you do for us less informed brothers.
  12. O.K. I Thnk I found the issue!!! The CLutch it self. I was looking all around but not at it. ( My camera batterie just died so picture to follow later.) The clutch on the inside is cracked just like in GeorgeS post. I was just not looking on the right side for the damage. It also has some worn circle next to the edges of the hollows. Then wen looking closer I noticed the outer edge had a burr. Then I saw small holes from missing pieces of the jacket on the edges. So I look up the part on Bike Bandit and it looks like they sell the whole clutch plate in an assembly with all the parts I just bought included with the same assembly. I am going to call them Monday and see what we can work out I am sure they will work with me. Also, I am currious about a part in the assembly that I just don't see in my parts. In the picture at: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-venture-royale-xvz12dw-1989/o/m7867 There is a part all the way to the right on the #7 assembly but it does not have a number. it follows after 10 - 9 - 8 then an un numbered part......well I do not see that part in my parts that came off the bike?? Hopefully I am missing something obvious again.... Any ideas out there...
  13. The gears and flywheel look good. I am a little concerned that I went in the wrong direction and missed the real problem. I don't see anything wrong! I am afraid to put everything back together just to have the same problem, since I did not find anything that looked like it was causing a malfunction. The only thing I can think of is when the starter clutch assembly came off the spindle it fell to the floor as I was not expecting the weight. All three of the dowels, caps and springs fell out and onto the floor. I will try to make sense of it and put it back as the micro fiche shows. I just hope I did not waste my time and end up having to do a totally different fix.
  14. Well.... I finally got around to replacing the starter clutch parts. I made it through to the starter clutch with few road blocks thanks to GeorgeS and Muffinman. I am a little concerned thought that the parts do not show the wear I was expecting. I have post pictures of the Spring cap followed by the Dowel pin and then the plate. I do not see enough damage to cause the starter to just constantly grind out. Am I missing something, or should I be looking for something else that would cause the stripping sound and clatter on the starter gears? http://www.rcspaducah.com/images/2008%20Jan%20287.jpg http://www.rcspaducah.com/images/2008%20Jan%20288.jpg http://www.rcspaducah.com/images/2008%20Jan%20295.jpg
  15. O.K. every time I look at fixing something I find more crap that was wrenched on by the previous owner that just pisses me off. I have had several problems with the starter not catching. It will turn sometimes and sometimes it just spins and you can hear it clicking on the other gears like it is trying to catch. I figured I was going to have to look at a new starter or the spindle anyway. So today I am trying to get the bike started after two weeks of straight rain, and it wont catch for nothing. I had a low battery to start with as it had been sitting for two weeks. So figured I would look at the starter. Well after 3 long and now drenched in coolant hours I managed to find the issue. Not only is one side of my radiator just hanging with NO SCREWS but the STARTER HAD NO SCREWS IN IT EITHER. WHAT THE *****.Well I tried to hold the starter in place while the wife hit the start switch but I am still getting a skip and grind going on. I looked at the starter and the splines are showing some wear but I do not think it would be enough to completely miss and free spin like it does. The gear inside the bike looks solid but I am not sure how much damage has been done since the BOLTS WERE MISSING. am hoping I do ont need to replace the gear in the engine. and the starter seams perfectly good it just shows slight signs of wear on the splines. I am going to see what the local stealer is going to charge me for these bolts but if anyone out there has a few starter bolts or the bolts that hold the radiator to the frame I would appreciate you letting me know how much they would cost me plus shipping charges. The splines just don't look like they are damages enough to miss.!?!?! http://www.rcspaducah.com/images/HPIM1086.jpg
  16. Squeeze, you were right after a close look around the bike I have a piece missing it looks kinda like a small plastic I beam with a oblong hole in the middle and three contact points on either side. This was sitting about four feet away from the rear tire. Boy that crap can bounce. Found it, and after the hours of pouring over the other components it was real easy to figure out where and how it went in. Next thing you know "POWER":cool10: Cutty, some of the bikes do have that number but the plate on mine is as bare as my checking account. I have seen the numbers on other posts but mostly on '83 mine is a '89 and I did not have the luck of having those number stamped into the back of the ignition switch plate.
  17. Squeeze That was kind of my though I am missing something but,...... Well I though I was real careful not to drop any pieces off the switch when disassembling it. I sure hope I did not lose a 10 cent piece that is going to cost 70 dollars to replace the whole switch. I mean I just had keys made for it, that would make me . I will look around the bike again to make sure I did not "drop" anything but if someone who has had this apart could chime in I would be truly greatfull.
  18. I took my ignition out to let the local dealer rekey the lock. I got it back today and went to install it over lunch and got a big surprise the ignition no longer works. I figure I had to have screwed somthing up so I got some picts and am asking for help. Pict 1 is the contacts that the ignition is supposed to set up against. Pict 2 is the way "I Think" the washer/contact plate is supposed to go in. My issue is that the little pin that the arrow is pointing to looks like it is supposed to make contact with the inner set of contacts on pict 1 but the pin does not stick out far enough to make contact. What am I doing wrong:confused24: I am stuck. ANY insight would be helpful.
  19. Well I finally did it, I pulled the 1973 Kawasaki 125cc out of my mother in laws shed where it has been for the last 20 - 25 years. It is a mess but I figured I will start with the obvious and go from there. The gas tank is coated in rust on the inside and I am looking for feed back from you guys about the pros and cons of the diffrent methods. I have seen several ways of doing this including Freebirds post on Kleen. I figure either way I go I will be putting washers, chains or some other metal in there with a good spin to loosen up all the surface rust and break loose all I can before going with the chemical cleaners. Someone suggested tieing the tank in a blanket with washers in it and putting it in the dryer on NO heat for some time to get it all knocked loose. What are your thoughs on the following methods: 1. Navel Jelly 2. Kleen 3. Electrolosis If you have another idea I am all ears. I want to know which method you think is best and more importantly in my case idiot proof.
  20. There goes Eck again:stirthepot:
  21. Hey SilverT That was easy I took her for a long ride and stopped at a Kohles department store, went in and said find something daisy style or I won't start the bike again:stirthepot:. After I recovered from the beating:confused24: I enjoyed the ride home with extra hot legs:cool10:
  22. :rotf: Same problem here Not that I am complaining..... but I am pretty sure this is something I will have to live with....
  23. I have recently been dealing with my own radio nightmare....and I just happen to have an extra volume control panel which has this button on it. The auto volume adjustment (to increase sound as your bike makes more noise) is not working on the unit so it may be a good candidate for dissection. PM me if you think you would like to give it a shot.
  24. Really the most basic stuff is just a set of metric sockets a small extension and a set of metric wrenches and a few good phillips screwdrivers. The tool kit that comes with the bike is generic at best and I would only use it in an emergency. If you get into a situation where you need more than that you will know it ahead of time.
