I am on the fence - don't care if we do, don't care if we don't. Being a nerd I guess helps me, I know how and where to look for info if and when I need to. ;-) I think this site/forum is well organized and it is easy to use, a newsletter would just be extra icing on an already perfect pastry.

would you buy a RSV again?
Christo replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been riding street bikes since I was 11. That is 30 years. I owned one sport bike, Yamaha 200, VMax, Virago, Honda CB500, VStar 1100, and an Indian Moped, (these are not in any chronological order of course) and now my '99 RSV, which I got new, out of the box in 2000. Love it. I have looked at the GW's (test drive), and the HD Ultra Classic Glide (waiting to test drive).... best bike I have ever ridden in my life. Smooth, quiet, gots power, and loads of goodies. Best bang for the proverbial buck IMHO! And as soon as they rev the RSV, with some of the odds and end fixes/improvements we wish for, like a better elect system, EFI, ABS, Ditch the Cassette, and I want the auto/man suspension adjustment back, like they had in the 1st gens, I would buy another one without hesitation! ;-) And if this one gets destroyed, stolen, dies, I will buy another one as well. -
LOL - bit it is a collector's item! ;-)

This is the one I wanted, but they never responded to my inquiry, e-mails, or phone call .

I have a set of these, and they look AWESOME! This is a GREAT deal folks. It really adds a nice touch to the RSV. BTW - I have no association with the sale of these, I just wanted to give you my opinion. If anyone would like to see picts, send me a PM or e-mail, I will be more than happy to show what they look like on my '99 RSV.

Where is this article, I can't find it either.

I am so glad someone finally popped this question. I am dying to know as well. i was ready to post this as well, but you beat me to it. I asked our local dealer, he "says" he knows nothing. I searched all over the net - can't find a thing about the '08's.

Thanks Kevin! I will ride on over to Elkhart to check them out.

Roy, Your site is up and working fine today. I am considering getting a trailer/camper for my '99 RSV. Aside from using your hitch, can you recommend any trailer/campers for the RSV's? Also, what pipes do you have on your RSV? How loud are they? Do you like them? TIA - Christo

After reading this entire thread (2 days *G*) I see that the Avons are the preferred by many. I will try them when the time comes to replace my Metzlers. One comment I have... I just put on my Metzler 880's this year, and I was IMPRESSED to say the least. I think I have had Dunlops, and I think a Bridgestone, and I always thought that my RSV handled weird. Now I am a small guy, about 5'8" with a 31" inseam, and I always felt it difficult to handle my RSV in slow turns - parking lots & U Turns on the road, and I thought it was just the nature of the RSV... until this year when I put on my new Metzlers - I feel like I have a brand new bike. It rides easier, it turns easier, it handles easier, and the ride is smooth. I read this forum, Delphi's, and VentureRider's, first B4 I made my decision. I read about the Metzler's and their "chunking", but most said this was just a bad batch. So far I have put about 2K miles on the new rubbers, and I am completely happy. So, my 2¢ and some change - I can't wait to try the Avons when my Metzlers die out (based on all the praise I have been reading on the 4 forums I read about Avons), but I love the Metzlers. My Metzlers are the best tires "I" have ridden on in the last 8 years, thus far. I don't recommend the Dunlops or the Bridgestones.

I would be interested in purchasing your Pillow Tops if you decide to go custom.

If anyone can direct, lead, show, recommend a place or person who can help me get the Driver's Seat, Passenger Seat, Passenger Back Rest, and a driver's back rest in the new pillow top or old for that matter, please help a sore butt. Thanks!

Anyone know where I can find a set of saddlebag and trunk liners for an '84 Venture Royale? I have looked on ebay, Google, checked out all of the known resources like TLC and Bikrbackrest. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am doing this for a buddy of mine, and it is a surprise for him. TIA

Cruise Control Problem
Christo replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just got back on Monday from a ride my wife and I took to the Maker's Mark distillery in Kentucky. When I used my cruise control I am having some of the same issues you folks are posting. Once I am at the speed I want to be at, I set the cruise, it drops down, like almost 5-10 MPH then it SLOWLY moves up to speed. A couple of times it would start to accelerate after I set it and it dropped and it seemed as though it would just cancel itself. I found that I had to set it, then keep hitting the accel up switch for it to get to the speed I had intended it to be cruising at. So maybe I need to have that vacuum actuator thingy adjusted on mine as well. Any other advice would be helpful, thanks! -
Scott, You are on the right track. There is another post here that tells you which color wire with which - so here it is: Originally Posted by Rick Butler You know guys, After installing horns with relays all these years, I finally realized there was really a simplier method to wiring up a 4 post relay, especially on horns. Once you realize that you need fused power from the battery to the relay and power out to the horn (30 in and 87 out) then the other pins (85 and 86) purpose is just to act as a trigger to power the internal switch to switch power from 30 to 87 (per Buddy's relay diagram). With the stock horn you always have a positive and negative connection (pink and black, I think). And these wires are a pretty small diameter because the stock horns don't pull many amps. It's these 2 wires that you connect to posts 85 and 86 and it really doesn't matter which post get's the positive or negative. The only other consideration is to make sure the horn has a good heavy ground, either to a second post on the horn (if you have a horn with 2 posts) or the center bolt of the horn (if it only has one post). And for this I always choose to ground to the bike's frame. Now with this concept, I don't need to refer to a relay schematic any longer. And if you can't remember which post is connected to the battery, it's always the post (30) that is turned different from the others. And the post directly accross from it (87) goes to the item you want to power. And for the other 2 (85 and 86) you just need a switched power source for one and a ground to the other. And when I say a switched power source, you do not want a constant power source, unless you want your horns to blow as soon as the bike is powered on. And these wires don't need to be very heavy because they are just drawing mili-amps. There have been times that I have used small double conductor speaker wire when I needed to wire in a switch into the circuit, like for lights. The wires to posts 30 and 87 need to be much heavier because they can be pulling up to 30 amps with 2 horns or 2 off road running lights. Hope this helps, Rick

Using MeanDog's wiring and a modified version of Carbon_One's under the Faring techniques I was able to hook up a total of 3 horns. It made my wife and kid crap their pants. DO NOT USE the wiring diagram in those Fiam instructions, it will cause your horns to work when turning on/off the bike key ignition switch. I was able to find the "other" wire needed when installing those dual horns under the faring as described by Carbon_One. There is a brown wire on the right side of the faring I tapped/spliced into. So now I have dual horns under the faring and the Stebel Air horn where the stock chrome horn was. And they all work as expected! I will post the pictures in my gallery for anyone to see. It is nice to be no longer silent to other drivers! Now I just need to get a bracket to hold that Stebel horn better. I made a make-shift one using pipe bracket material in the interim. So I am hoping Carbon_One gets in touch with me soon. Thanks to Dog and Carbon for being the pioneers/guinea pigs! ;-)
