  1. I am interested in those crash bar mounted wind deflectors that I have seen on a few of you guys' RSVs. The best price I have found is $162 at Cyclepartswarehouse.com. They are $199 in the Star catalog. Anyone found a bettrer deal?
  2. OK I was going to write more last night, but I hadn't slept well for three days. Needless to say I was a bit on the excited side over getting another Venture. So by the time I got home last night, I was freakin exhausted!! I had the energy to post one picture and that was it. First off, I love this 2nd gen:rotfl: But she ain't anything like my old '84 with it's Mustang seat. I was able to put down about one hundred and fifty miles yesterday and Mama got some seat time as well. My first gen was the first fixed fairing bike I ever and like wise, my second gen in the first fork mounted... there is a huge difference between the two. The 04 seems to wander on the road a bit more and is pushed around by the wind. I'm guessing that not having a fixed fairing is what's causing that. But I have to wounder, the guy I bought it from just put new tires on it. He had Dunlop Elites put on it. And the front tire is actually a rear tire put on backwards...Ever heard of that? He said it makes the front tire last twice as long...OK but does it effect the handling?? Ok onward. The seat is comfy, but not like my first gen seat. I got monkey butt pretty quickly. But that might have been because I was wiggling in the seat allot, tryin to find that sweet spot. I guess I'll get used to it soon enough. I was expecting to hear a nice soft rumble while driving, but all I hear is the engine noise and the whine of those straight cut gears. I'm not a fan of the Harley sound so it's no big deal to me. I so impressed the low speed handling of this big bruiser!! The turning radius is a little long but I can do it with out sticking my foot out. She darn near stands up on her own at stop signs. I noticed I get a lot more wind on me on this bike over the '84. It has the wider wind screen but it still makes for a bit of cool air at night. It's a give and take I guess. It will be nicer in hot weather that the '84 which would kill me when it was hot, but in cooler weather I'm gonna have to dress like a biker All in all, I'm happier than a pig in ...well you get the idea. Now I just got to learn how to keep her clean. http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1498.jpg http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1504.jpg http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1499.jpg
  3. today on my way home i was riding looking at all the sights on the hiway ( I-75) and i looked down at my foot for some reason and i noticed my lower wind vent was leaning backwards( not a good sign) so i tried to get over to the shoulder to fix it or remove it untill i got home and....... you guessed it off it comes at 70 mph on the hiway as i watched it in the mirror hit the ground and shatter and the metal part that bolts to the crash bar bounced all i could think was i hope this dont hit a car. well it didnt so i was lucky in that aspect... so if any one has the right side wind vent for a second gen and you want to part with it please let me know the bike still looks good from the left
  4. the wife & I were on our way home from northern florida last week. we throught, the floation feeling we were getting, was from the wind, cutting across the bike, and wet roads, we were pulling the trailer. last night we went for another ride, and on the way home the bike did it again, this time without the trailer. can wind make the front end feel like its floating. weird feeling. talk to me tech. peoples, or should I be looking for something loose?
  5. Happy Fathers Day to all the dads on here. Hope it is a great day and you get to feel a little wind in your hair today. Make it a safe one!
  6. i have on order a 19.5 inch clearview sheild any comments as to wind turb compared to stock sheild thanks steve
  7. Well, I finally got to admit my new to me 2005 RSV has it. I test rode it, heard it at lower speeds but not at highway cruising speeds so I purchased it. I must say here I used a full face helmet for the test ride, and the subsequent 4 hour ride home after with no headset listen to music or CB. I did notice it on the way home, but had a tail wind almost all the way. The other day it was quite hot, and I used my other 3/4 helmet for a 2 hour ride (no headset). The wind picked up quartering from my left front. I couldn't wait to get off that bike! What an irritating chirp at about 110 km (65mph). But what I did find was that by shifting body position, turning my head, or leaning my body to one side I could change the intensity of the chirp dramatically. I know if I was blessed with longer arms, I could lean well back and get away from it all together. So it seems to me a combination of motor load, wind speed direction etc etc. Has anyone else experienced this? This is NOT about a whine, but a chirp sound. It seems to be worst when both ears get it simultaneously. I don't know what to do about it. It is tolerable with full face and tunes, and I wore the 3/4 size helmet (no headsets) with foam ear plugs recently and it was OK also. I could hear it, but it was quite soft. I am not sure what to do about it. My local Yamaha dealer has not had much experience with either the RSTD or RSV, and I am not sure complaining would not fall on deaf ears. Has anyone had luck changing oil types or weight ie 10w30 or 20w50, dino vs synthetic etc? Thanks.
  8. Several members asked about something to get the wind off their knees. I have made up some Knee Wind Blocks. They are 38.00 a pair which includes shipping (40 USD if you live in Canada or Alaska). They mount with Velcro so they are removable for hot days. For cold days and nights these will really make a difference on your knees guys. I made mine up 4 years ago and was happy I did every time it got cool. Mine cut about 90% of the wind off my knees These are available in Black or smoke. I will make them in smoke if anyone really wants them like that but they will have some distortions because of the heating and bending
  9. I recently aquired a 1996 RSTC and have a couple of questions. 1. Did the '96 RSTC come with the lower cowling? 2. Anyone know where I can aquire a set? Mine does not have them and I would like to add them. Any advise appreiciated, also I get quite a bit of wind noise and buffeting at highway speeds do the lower wind deflectors help with this? Jim
  10. Several people have asked so I have started making replacement lowers for the lower wind vents on our 2nd gens. The cost is 35 which includes shipping. They are available in smoke, clear, and black . I have to make these as you order them so expect them a couple of weeks after you order . You can paypal me or send a check. buddyrich at ebmc.com is the paypal. Didn't use the @ symbol so the spammers don't pick up on the email address. Pics attached
  11. Yesterday we had a freak wind storm come through and turned over our carport that was housing our bike. Luckily, it did no damage to the bike, but not sure how we're going to flip this thing back over...
  12. I belong to the Virago website, but it's not as user friendly for me. I know there are Virago owners on this website....so here's my question. I have a 95 1100 Virago. I am wondering if there are any wind deflectors to put on it. I've tried doing searches but haven't seen anything. Everytime I ride, I have to hold my left hand, palm down, by the gas tank to deflect the wind. The crazy thing is it's only the left side. Don't know if they make them for Virago's or not. Anyone have any knowedge?
  13. While in Madill Oklahoma @ a gas stop on our way up to OKC a gentleman came up to me and was telling me about Yamaha having adjustable upper wind deflectors. They replace the clear plastic fixed deflectors attached to the bottom of the fairing on both sides. He said there in the new accessory catalog. I got on line and looked and did not see anything. Has anyone heard of these???
  14. I was reading some post on wind buffeting. Has anyone tried tour wing windows? I put a set on a Honda 900 Custom years ago because the wind buffeting was so bad I couldn't hear the stereo & give me a headake. put the wings on & the buffeting stoped. I could wear a baseball cap & listen to the stereo with no more buffeting. was wondering if it would work on a Venture?
  15. Just finished putting a J&M2003 comm unit on the SO's wee strom and it works great - except. Below about 60 the comms are great, but above they become garbled. This is with a 05 venture on my end. No electrical noise on either bike. Both units play MP3 fine at high speed, it's just the talking. We both wear Nolan modular (N-102) helmets and have tried the mics with and without the foam wind socks. My stock windshield is cut down and hers was never full. 90% of wind goes over our heads. Tried with the face shields up 1/2" and down. Down is better, but still garbled. Is this inherent with full helmets?
  16. Got home from meetings last night, grabbed the hubby, and jumped on the Venture!!!!! First time since last November!! We still have 3 ft of snow in the ditches....but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......did that wind feel good in my face!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancefool:It's amazing what it does for someones disposition! I feel like a new person! Ye ha!!
  17. I'm planning an escape from the Frozen Tundra and was messing around on weather.com looking for a weather window to plan my escape.. I found the Interstate Forecast feature which is nice but it gives temps in various cities all at the same time of day... But if you select Option 2 you enter your leaving city and can add cities at the time of day you're going through them. It's snowing here Mon. but Tues. is cold and clear... I'm hoping the Main roads are clear of ice & snow by Wed. cuz Thurs & Fri another snowstorm coming through. So I got one chance to get out of here this week. I'm going to FL for Daytona Bike Week. I had to mess with the formatting to post it here... It's actually easier to read on the weather. com website... I think it's java or something... Anyhow here's what my trip is looking like... My Travel Summary Below are the forecasts for your selected cities and times. Forecasts are based on the time of day you selected. If your trip is more than 10 days away, you will see averages and records for that day. 18. Howdy all - Those of you who put the leveling links on your RSV and ride 2-up - did the leveling links increase the wind buffeting for your passenger? My wife loves to ride, but hated the buffeting we experienced on other bikes we've owned. Without the links, she's loving the Venture. Will she love it after I install the links? Thanks!
  19. Really bad super cell thunderstorms moved through the northern part of Ga. last nite, no confirmed tornados reported as yet, have some wind damage in some areas, plenty of pea sized to baseball sized hail everywhere, but we dodged the bullet, got pretty nasty here with wind, lightning, small hail, but we are good, will see how the rest of town faired on my way to work.......hope everyone else made it through ok. Some areas got hammered real good with very large hail, bet the insurance adjusters are going to be super busy for a while.
  20. Kinda thinking about the clear lower wind deflectors on the front forks and the clear wind deflectors on the bottom of the front fairing... Since I have a Midnight venture to keep with the midnight theme...I thought they would look better BLACK. I have found Duplicolor paint that is suppose to be exact match to the black on my 07 RSMV. I was thinking about removing the clear plastic lower wind deflectors and the clear plastic deflectors on the bottom of the fairing and painting the inside or back side of them black. This would keep the shine of the clear plastic and prevent rocks and other road hazzards from beating the paint off them. I know I need to becareful with the paint reacting to the plastic and possibly melting them and maybe a special paint may be in order for this. What does the group think about this... What would they look like Black?
  21. Greetings! So, I'm thinkin' I need to lube my throttle cables to see if that keeps my Cruise Control from disengaging right as I start to scratch that itch on my... face. Please allow me to 'splain: No, I don't have fringe on my clutch/brake levers. I've owned this 99RSV since early 2007(ish) and as long as I've owned it, the Cruise Control will randomly disenguage on me. ususally within seconds, but sometimes as much as a several minutes after I enguage it. Originally I just assumed it was my... generous surface area adding wind resistance causing the CC to quit. Then I started testing it more sceintifically. It doesn't appear to be wind drag on my beer gut. I proved this by going 55MPH with a 45MPH tail-wind, giving me much less wind drag (going on a diet would take too long). I next thought that maybe one of the cancel switches was just reacting to a bump in the road. Soo.... I picked a nice, level, recently paved stretch of road (which is VERY hard to find in this town) with no bumps or asphalt-snakes. The CC disenguaged at seemingly randomly intervals. I did however notice that my throttle does tend to drag just the tinyiest little bit. Okay... now that I've gone through all that, my ACTUAL question is, what kind of lube should I use on throttle cables. Sorry all, but my wife already beat all of you to the smartarse "throttle cable lube" response. Since tomorrow is Sunday and the scoot-store is closed on Sundays here and I'm entirely too impatient to wait until Monday, I was wondering if there were any good/bad substitutes for throttle cable lube. Discuss...
  22. I'm thinking of ordering the Tinted Lower Wind Vents for my 07 Venture, has anybody put these on? Anybody have a picture of them installed? I hate it when accessories are offered for sale without a picture of how they look installed.
  23. I was looking at a RSTD that has a pair of adjustable wind deflectors that bolt to the upper horizontal portion of the front crash bars. They blend nice with the cowl that covers the air filters. Might anyone know what company makes these? Hard to describe these, they are about the same height as the cowl and are vertical. The adjustment allows air towards or away from the drivers legs. Ron:325:
  24. ...and cold, but by god all the snow has melted and it rained for 2 days. Then the wind blew the roads dry with 50 mph winds....and I finally got a fix and took the bike out tonight for about 45 minutes. I can see what a miserable S.O.....well you get the picture. It sure did feel good to get some wind in my face, even if it was 36 degrees. This PMS is really starting to break me down
  25. here is a new one for all you old timers that cant stand up on you own no more or the better half dont like to get her hair all messed up in the wind http://www.autocyclesales.com/
