    Weather

Was just watching the Weather Channel, the nice lady said, that " Las Vegas , is getting some much needed SNOW " !!! And, the Los Angeles River is flooding into the streets in Compton. Hmmmm? more signs of Global Warming I see, PHX, is down to 57 deg. my wife left there Sat Morning, looks like she got out of town just in time, and safely back to Seattle for the Snow Storm !!
  2. Love this Texas weather - 76 degrees Sunday, 35 yesterday, 27 today! One of the PIA items we need to do when it stays below freezing for a couple of days around here is keep the leaves out of the pool skimmers so the water keeps flowing and prevents freeze damage to the pumps and filters. This can be especially problematic when we have such a cold snap so early in the season before all the leaves are off the trees. As you probably know, sticking your hands repeatedly in water that cold can really be painful. I normally use a pair of neoprene fishing gloves for that job, but I recently bought a new pair of gloves that I thought I would try. Two of the things I just don't think a man can have too much of are glues and gloves, so when I saw a dirt cheap price on a set of waterproof work gloves at Harbor Freight last summer, and found they were actually beg enough for my hands, well, I just had to buy them. These are Western Safety, item number 96612. They are completely waterproof, Thinsulate insulation, and have reinforced non-slip working surfaces on palm and fingers. I think I paid about $6 for them! I can't vouch yet for how rugged they are, but I can absolutely confirm that they are 100% waterproof and WARM. I really expected them to just be water resistant with a bit of leakage around the seams, but not so. I have had them completely submerged within about 1/4" of the cuff numerous times, and even after the water freezes on the outside of them while I continue to work they remain completely dry and warm inside. I have an extremely hard time finding any gloves big enough for my hands - most extra large gloves don't even come close. But these in extra large are just perfect. I don't think they would make very good riding gloves in nasty weather because the cuffs are not long enough to go over your jacket sleeves. But they are sure nice to have when you have to do anything else outside in cold wet weather. Goose

  7. I gave my '78 wing to my son. He is going to come pick it up in Oliver Springs just before christmas. He's looking for a trailer to put it on, as the tag and insurance expire a week before he'll get here. Also doesn't know what weather will be like. He's willing to rent so long as its reasonable. He's located in Hinesville Ga.
  8. want to thank everyone who made this a great weekend. first off, thanks to sleeper hawksmechanic, and brad for making the whole thing possible, thanks to dragon rider for setting it all up, thanks to all the folks who donated to a great cause, and thanks to the weatherman for perfect weather. about time they got the weather right. i think all the people there had a great time. i know i did. bill :clap2:
  9. Just a bump for Dan's invitation to ride tomorrow. Your all welcome, great weather and probably the last time to get a ride like this in till next year. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=28383
  10. Hi, I recently moved to sunny Arizona, and wonder if anyone who is hot weather savvy can make some recommendations as far as helmets, jacket, boots that work best in this heat. I haven't biked in years, but expect to have a Gen 1 Venture Royale very soon, and have no gear as of yet. I'm especially concerned about helmets that won't toast the old noggin. I'm hoping to find something that protects well, but allows some cool air to pass through. I'd also like to wire the helmets to work off the intercom/radio system. Although leather looks great, not sure if it is the best answer for warm weather. Experienced comments would be helpful. Lastly, does anyone know where to find reasonably priced riding gear in the Phoenix area? Thanks in advance for all your help! Joe in Chandler

  12. *new to forum* all- i have run cts on several of my cruisers over the years (especially in the sw and nw states). however, i converted to the rsv a few years ago and hesitated to run a ct on it as i also relocated to north ga at the time. however, much of my riding is multi-state and i log heavy interstate useage in varied weather. i have been blowing through several sets every year and i also miss the 'stability' i enjoyed in inclement weather (imho). so here it is, i have been reading posts and talking to a few bros riding wings and baggers w/ cts, but i have not had much direct feedback on the late year rsvs... please share. blessings, tr0tt

  15. The wife and I can not get away for anytime to ourselves until the last week of October and we only have about 5 days. I need some suggestions as to where we can go. As some of you know, I live in the north central part of Tennessee. We are not sure if the weather will allow us to ride the bike or not (wife is not a cold weather lady). Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Well, my wife (Debbi) and I will be leaving tomorrow morning on our first long bike trip. Leaving Edmonton, Alberta around 7am. Will be going into Regina, Sask. and Rouleau, Sask. where Corner Gas is filmed. The we are off to Billings, Montana, then Butte, and then Great Falls. From there, back up to Canada to Vulcan, Alberta and then home. Now, because of the crappy weather we have been having, we might do Vulcan first and to Rouleau on Sunday. Anyway, just though I would post in case anyone wanted to meet up for coffee alone the way. I won't have a computer with me however, feel free to text me at 780-920-5249 (do not enter a 1 at the beginning because text messaging is not long distance). Don't be shy, text me. Would love to meet some members along the way. Now, lets all bow our heads and pray for some NICE WEATHER. Hope to see some of you soon.
  17. OK AL WHEN IS THE CASINO RIDE FOR FALL THIS YEAR GONNA BE? HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET IT IN THIS YEAR WITH GOOD WEATHER. NEED ADVANCE NOTICE SO WE CAN MAKE PLANS WITH WORK. JOE
  18. On Sat 6/21 the AMA flat trackers will be at Mountain Raceway in Maryville TN.! This just happens to be a stones throw from the Tail of the Dragon! This looks to be a pretty big event. I am planning on riding up Sat afternoon, doing a lap at the Dragon, getting something to eat at Deals gap and heading over to the races. This is all "weather permitting" of course since they won't be racing if it rains. I will be leaving the Blue Ridge area around 3 pm. The races start at 7. That should give us time to run the Dragon and grab some grub before the races. Anyone interested? Here's a link to the event.-Jack http://www.mountainraceway.net/AMA_info.html
  19. Has anyone used the beaded seat covers from Cycle Crafts? ($17.50) Do you recommend beaded seats? It talks about comfort in warm weather for cooling, are they too cooling for cold weather riding? I'm looking forward to a long trip, and wanted something more between me and my seat. Thanks for any help? BigD
  20. It seems more like November or maybe February based on the weather this week. Today's high temp is 10 celcius (49 F) ... normals would be 18 c (64 F). The whole week is going this way... what happened??? May was great...warm...sunny most of the time... I'm even sporting a "farmer's tan" from being out in the sun.... 3 weeks ago I was in my cutoffs...no shirt..and looking for shade! I could go up to the north country and find warmer weather! sheeeeesh! Global Warming??.... not here! If anything, it's getting worse.
  21. Are you still having a drought up there and having to water your yard? I was just watching the weather thru Ohio and it looks like a train of rain. RandyA

    Wet Weather Riding

Several of us are leaving for a long tour from Southern, Az up through Yellowstone and further North in the Montana area. We are leaving on Saturday May 24 and will be up in that area sometime after May 26. Weather forecast indicates rain and maybe lots of it. I am fairly new to the RSV. I have an 06 RSMV and one of the guys going with has a 05 RSMV. How do these scoots hold up in riding in the rain? We don't want any surprizes. I rode a 99 SE 1500 Goldwing up in that area last year and got poured on. The wing came through with flying colors I am assuming the Venture's will do the same. Another guy is riding the new Victory Vision.
  24. Tried a quick search but didn't find anything so,,, what size are the speakers in a 86 Venture? Anyone have any recommendations on a good weather resistant replacement?
  25. Now that I have my Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 jacket, I need to get a pair of hot weather pants. Any body have any suggestions? By the way--Why do they call them a "PAIR" of pants and you only get one???
