  1. Don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but, after reading it, it reminded me of this site and the people that are on this site. That the people here go out of their way to help people with their problems no matter how big or small. This is a good read for Memorial Day. I hope everyone had a good Holiday As a veteran, please read this, especially today under the conditions we are living On Memorial Day.... As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open. The old man was looking at the engine I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away. I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm, walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, 'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.' And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot. I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.' He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him. The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman. When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring=2 0and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?' He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal . He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card. He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket.. We all shook hands all around again and I said my goodbye's to his wife. I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off. For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name....... 'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.' http://www.cmohs..org/ I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence. Remember, OLD men like him gave you FREEDOM for America . Thanks to those who served...& those who supported them. America is not at war. The U.S.. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them! Remember , Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.
  2. A guy at work just sold his V-Star and told me today he's looking for a bike like mine. I told him I would post on here and see if anyone has one for sale. I know sometimes I see what I think are bargains posted on here, but I haven't been in the market, so I don't usually pay much attention. Just so you'll know, we are in East TN. and he's looking for a bargain.
  3. A few weeks after V-Goose posted about the way progressive handled the claim for Cyote61 my territory sales manager with progressive came in the office. I told about the way the claim was handled and I went on this web site and let him read the responses and I told him there were over 6,000 members of this site. I asked him if he would be willing to talk to the higher ups with progressive about the way this claim was handled. He was upset just like me and agreed to see if someone with progressive would look into this. He also asked if it would be OK for the "higher ups" to go on this web site and read the posts about this claim. I told him I wish they would and I gave him the name of the post and where to find it. Today the territory sales manager was in the office and he said this site was looked at by someone up the line with progressive. He also said a claims manager was supposed to look into the handling of the claim and make contact or have someone contact Cyote61. He didn't know what would be done but said someone was supposed to look into the handling of this claim. I just wanted you all to know that progressive did look at the reponses on this site.
  4. See I told you this is what I'm seeing
  5. When I took my 86 VR to the shop for some work I told the mechanic that the battery light would be on because I installed a new battery and that I would fix it when I got it back home. When I picked up the bike the mechanic had wired the battery sensor to the positive battery post. Needless to say the battery light was off. I told him that could damage the electronics and he disconnected the sensor from the battery. Everything seems to work correctly. How can I tell if the chip has been damaged. Will the light stay on or will other things quit working?
  6. Good Morning all, I had my 08 venture in for the first service this week and was talking to the service writer about a set of slip-ons I saw on a RSV when I bought mine in january. He was not sure of the brand but told me they were shochrome or shoguns. I have not talked to parts to get the name or price yet.Twin 1 1/2 pipes per side with good mellow tone. The queston is He told me they have to rejet the carbs and being there is no kit they have to make up their own. I thought I seen on one of threads that as long as you do not change the header pipe you do not have to rejet these V-4's. Am I being told a dealer lie or is there a chance he is telling the truth. He was not happy when I told him I would be putting the pipes on myself. I took it in for the first service but will be doing my own from now on. With the help of any of you guys if I find myself stumped on some of the maintance. Thanks for any help I can get on the slip-on problem. Richard
  7. anyone find an electronic turn signal flasher that works on our bikes? I was told by 3 shops that any "car flasher" will work. they dont.
  8. Hey Guys, My riding buddy has an 03 Venture Royal Star. It has quit on him. He was told it was the switch, so he bought a new one, and replaced the battery, and still nothing. Anyone have a suggestion on where we should look next.

  11. leave it to me to manage to piss off the APA......... without goin into detail......some of the things( i posted about this the other day) he told me pertaining to the weakness of our case didnt sit right with me......so of course i went and spoke with the detective from the local LE...and found out some things he said were wrong....which upset the local leo's which in turn called the APA..... (this is the one that took over because the other is on maternity leave.) anyways now today after letting me know he was upset..:8:and that his relationship with my local pd is tarnished... he told me he is just filling in and the other will take back over when she returns in may.....hmm ya know what, if i could make him mad by this and he would turn it back to her....then this makes me feel like maybe he wouldnt have fought hard enough for us... I spoke to our advocate this afternoon and she told me not to worry about it.....I told her they all need to realize i am not going to be a passive bystander, if something doesnt sit right I WILL check it out....I told her, this is just his job, but its my life! oh well.....i guess im starting to believe maybe i am a
  12. I bought my Odessey battery in 2/07. Well today I needed declare my battery dead as It would not hold a charge or take a charge. I knew I had not had it very long so I called the seller www.batteryweb.com and after looking back over the records I had only had it for one month over the warranty period!!! They promptly told me that they could not help me, Now I got the battery in feb and could not ride until Apr and when I started having trouble with it it was Oct last year. I should have chased it sooner but you dont think till you need it. Well the bloodpressure was up so I asked for Odesseys number which they gave. Expecting I fight I called and was unbelievably suprised. The Tech person I got, Kathy listened and after explaining my situation immediately informed me that they would replace it free of charge!!!! No fight, No hassel. I was told that the stand behind their product and felt it was the right thing to do. How often do you get that nowadays? Anyway applause to Odessey and Kathy.
  13. jokes and humor section, but thought you might enjoy this as much as I did!! Why Men Can Pee Standing Up God was just about done creating humans, but he had two parts left over. He couldn't decide how to split them between Adam and Eve so He thought He might just as well ask them. He told them one of the things He had left was a thing that would allow the owner to pee while standing up. "It's a very handy thing." God told them, " and I was wondering if either one of you had a preference for it." Well, Adam jumped up and down and begged, "Oh, please give that to me! I'd love to be able to do that! It seems like just the sort of thing a man should have. Please! Pleeease!! Give it to me!" On and on he went like an excited little boy. Eve just smiled and told God that if Adam really wanted it so badly, he could have it. So God gave Adam the thing that allowed him to pee standing up. Adam was so excited he just started whizzing all over the place-first on the side of a rock, then he wrote his name in the sand, and then he tried to see if he could hit a stump ten fee away-laughing with delight all the while. God and Eve watched him with amusement and then God sait to Eve, "Well, I guess you're kind of stuck with the last thing I have left." "What's it called?" asked Eve. "Brains." said God!
  14. been looking at tires most of the morn, this nexen tire has a 4 ply side wall and steel belts, made in china,i called them in la to get the spects, and that is what they told me,e-bay has them 2 for $129.00 free shipping what do you thank
  15. My stepson has been riding my shadow of and on. The other day he found a puddle of fairly big cooling fluid under the kickstand. He says it is coming out of the overflow(?) Also says the cooling fan isn't coming on. With the bike being at his place, makes it a bit harder to see what is going on but I told him I'd ask y'all. I supose a lack of cooling might cause too much expansion so I told him to check the fuse and power the fan separately to make sure it is still working. Are there any other things to do to see why it suddenly is "blowing" out fluid? Thanks! btw: Since he prefers to borrow his friends HD, I am open to offers if you or someone you know wants to buy this low mileage bike. Black, 22K miles(+/-), windshield, highway pegs, sissy bar, new leather trunk bag.
  16. Just got my BFG Radial TA 155/80/15 installed at Discount tire for $97 otd. Couldn't balance it, but once I told them it was for a trike (no its not) they had no problem mounting it. Took 90 lbs to seat the bead. Got an interesting tip about the white letters. They told me to wash the blue off and hit it with some flat black paint. Have to give it a try. Not a pretty story on how I ended up on the darkside. Had a Metzler ME880 blow on the high way, loaded with me, the wife and our new to us time out camper. Ended ok with no fatalities, but could have been UGLY.
  17. I got my trike back 2-28, late afternoon. On the way home I noticed that the neutral light does not come on when in neutral. Also the OD light does not come on when in 5th gear. The curise control does not stay on. I went back to the dealer on 3-3 at 0900, the time that they open, and their first day to open after the weekend. They told me that they were too busy to do anything now and to call and make an apt. (After I paid just short of $2K to get it fixed) I made a call to a friend of mine and was told that the switch, or connection for the neutral light and maybe the OD light is behind the cover on the left side of the bike at the foot shifter. Before I get started on this task I wanted to ask you guys who might have had some type of problem like this for your help. Any ideas? or pictures? so I'll have some idea of what I'm doing. I'm all done with this dealer and begining to compose a letter to Yamaha. Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  18. Hi, Bought another 84 first Gen last summer. The factory radio was out and a nicely installed radio /CD player had been installed in it's place. The PO told me that he could not get the radio to work and thought maybe it was bad... I really did not care all that much last year, but over the winter I decided to check it out. Could not get it to power up... Took it to the radio repair shop , the guy tested it and it worked fine.. Home.... of course not... Situation.. there are 3 wires coming from the noise filter box. Red, yellow and Black. The Radio guy told me yellow -- power all the time for memory red- from the ignition Black ground.. Sounds simple right... however cannot get anything to work I'm an electronics idiot and thought someone on here might have more knowledge.. Thanks, Clay
  19. I was told that the hitch will add about 6" to the lencth of the toungue Did anybody cut it back or is longer better? Also, Am I opening a can of worms asking it this way?
  20. I need some help please...does anyone have a VR1300 camshaft cap? These thingies hold the overhead camshaft in place and tie down the valve covers. Correct me if I'm wrong...I'm assuming they are the same regardless of their location on the cam so any one will do. I'm told the 1300s are different than the 1200s though. Yamaha doesn't sell them separately; local wreckers are not willing to open up their salvage engines. Anyone come to my rescue?
  21. Okay, I'm on a quest!!! Last week we went to Steve Wagners for a mini maint. day. While we were there, Dave3 showed me his exhaust tips (On a stock exhaust system) he told me where he got his bike and told me they installed them. I contacted the Dealer and they couldn't help me. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough! In my searching I came across an article from 2005 in Motorcycle-usa.com see link below:(hope link works) At the bottom of the article there is a photo showing the tips saying "They can be removed, or turned around or swapped out with different ones with a set screw!" Does anyone here know where these can be found ? thanks in advance http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/275/936/Motorcycle-Article/2005-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe.aspx

Thom:bang head::bang head::bang head:
  23. i have not posted for the last 2 weeks , been in a bad mood so i just lurked , reading every thing here every day to make me feel better . Silver got hit 2 weeks ago . i went shopping for a frig. at a local shop and parked 20 feet behind a car when i went inside i asked whos white car is that is out there , the lady , who is the owner of the shop said it was her's and i told her that i parked behind her and don't leave with out telling me . i bought a used frig from her and she ask me how i was going to get it home and i pointed at Silver and said i'll put it in the trunk of my bike could she have somebody give me a hand ? she laughed and i told her that my son will be here with a truck and trailer to pick it up . so while my son and i are loading the frig she comes up and is waiting for us to finish and than tells me she knocked over my bike , she not only knock it over but pushes it about 8 ft. after i get it up she tells me that she is closed and i need to move the bike so she can leave , i tell her to call her insureance co. she tells me that her ins. is in ohio and i need to have my ins. co fix it i said so my ins. is in fl. and she needs to call her ins. or i am calling the pd . that got her on the phone real fast , after she told the ins. co. what happened and thay told me thay would fix it , 4 days later a ajuster called me from ohio and said a ajuster from tx will come to me and take pic'c that took another week but he took a lot of them . the ins.co is nationwide and seams ok . the rite side is a wreck , fairing , mirror , rite panel that holds the class , rite bag , highway peg and trunk . the front bumper is bent pretty bad but i have been riding it to work every day , i hope the ins.co sends me a check pretty soon because Silver is in ruff shape rite now , i had to remove the trunk today because it was falling apart . i guess i am a member of the broken haerts club , i now know how Randy felt . Thom
  24. Today I was called by the dealer who is fixing the engine in my bike. He told me that he had some bad news for me. The Yamaha rep told him that Yamaha is not going to stand behind fixing my bike because it had been triked and has a trailer hitch on it. The dealer told me that he is going to call the rep on Tuesday and talk to him and see if he can change his mind. It that doesn't work he will then call the rep's boss and see what he can get done. The dealer told me that I'll probable have to call Yamaha Customer Service sometime in the middle of the week and see if I can get them to do something about fixing the engine. The problem is with the piston. It has 4 marks on it that are on oppisit sides these run verticle from just under the top of the piston to the bottom. I'll try to attach a picture of the piston. I've had Yamaha all my life. Looks like this will be my last. Ken
  25. Well the winter months here in Ohio leave me alot of time to think since i cant ride. So today i was sitting at work talking to a few of my co-workers about ST.Jude and they all seemed like they wanted to help and told me to let them know when i was going to go on the teddy bear collection frenzy. My Boss heard the conversation and told me about a program offered here @ CSX railroad where if i voulenteer for 40 hours they will make a 400 dollar donation to our charity. then i also had some other idea's with this i work on the intermodal side which is the division that puts the trailers and over sea's containers on the rail i will share these later and get some feed back on them. so as soon as i get some more info im going to get started. I just thought I would share this with every one. Ron
