  1. I am ordering items for my winter projects and need some help. I have read the threads involving passing lamps and understand how to install, but here is where my dumbness comes in. I have an 06 beautiful black tour deluxe with a straight light bar which the turn signals connect horizontal at the ends. I want to add passing lamps but am confused. Every site I look at to order the lights and mounts show a curved light bar. Do I have to purchase this light bar? or do they make lights for the straight one? If so, do the passing lights come with the turn signals that hang underneath or am I suppose to do something with the stock ones. I just want to buy something and can't figure this out. It looks to me like the turn signals that are on the ends now would come out and the passing lights would go in there place, but I don't know. Really need help in buying. I just bought kromewerks slip on and want to buy all the lights, including Led for the rear, and possibly engine lights and want to have everything so I can do all the electric at one time with taking the saddlebags and gas tank off. I appreciate any help. Thanks Walt:bang head:
  2. My passing lights are set to be off with the headlight on normal. They come on with the high beam selected, which is rarely used with my driving. Is there an easy way to change this so that the passing lights are on all the time? Could this contribute to a charging problem? How do most of you run them? Thanks. Jdix
  3. I like to keep things neat, especially wiring; my question for others is: Where do you have your passing lamp circuit grounded? All the way back to the fuse block? battery? headlight surrounds? Thanks for the input (just curious here).
  4. Good Morning Everyone, I would like to replace my stock passing light bulbs with a brighter halogen lamp. However i'm not interested in increasing the amount of wattage draw on the system. My question is, what lamp would you recommend for this application? I would like a nice wide pattern not a narrow beam. I was told the Silver Star would work, but I dont know which one to look for. I like the super bright white look compared to the yellow tungsten. Forgot to mention i have the sealed beam type ! Thank you in advance for your suggestions! Please ride safe Frank
  5. I'm getting a set of the yamaha passing lamps soon. My question is this...I've read a lot of posts where you use a relay to hook them up. Is there a reason not to hook them up the way Yamaha says to?? Does it cause a problem if you don't use the relay??? :confused24:I understand that by using a relay you isolate the circuit and reduce the load on the headlight circuit.... and I'm sure that's better, but is it necessary??? Thanks folks....I'm sure someone will clear this up for me.
  6. Do the passing lamps make opening the fairing more difficult?
  7. Not a favorite, just a road report. Ride: July 2009, Friday, Afternoon Gas Available: Pretty much in every town on the route. Direction: Dayton Avg Speed: 65 Flora: Wheat/Alfafa Farming (guessing) Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Warm Road Condition: A beautiful ride for this desert rat with route in very good condition offering rolling hills, sweepers and an occasional tighter corner. Plenty of passing opportunities with a few passing lanes provided on longer uphill pulls. Smokeys Seen: 0 Traffic: Light. Intermittent drips and trickles. Construction: None __________________
  8. Hi! I'm new to this website and also a new owner of an '05 RSV which I'm rebuilding from a salvage bike. I'm down to the last part - passing lamps. I saved the original passing lamp bar and turn signals hoping I could find another damaged one and swap out the parts. I did find an '07 passing lamp/bar but it seems to have different connectors for the turn signals. The old one has some kind of break-off-type cylinder (one of which is broken, of course) that connects the turn signal to the passing lamp above it. The "new" one has more of a solid type cylinder. Does anyone have any idea or experience with what I'm talking about here? I hope I can find the right break-off type cylinder or new adapter to mount the "new" lamp to my old bar or vice versa.... I thought all the 2nd generation RSVs had interchangeable parts!...??? I guess since the passing lamps are optional, then there are different configurations and different manufacturers. I don't really want to spend another $300 on a complete passing light set unless I can be assured it has the right connectors for the turn signals. I'd appreciate an assembly drawing if one exists, showing the connector between the turn signal and the passing lamp. Thanks,
  9. Received my Passing lamp set up today and there no instructions or parts breakdown. I think I might have the wrong bolt that mounts the lamp to the light bar both parts are factory Yamaha. The Lamps are #STR-4XY35-10-00 No bolts were supplied with the lights and the box was not opened before I received it. The bracket #STR-4XY35-40-00 was cut open in the middle where the hardware was and taped. Could anyone email or post a breakdown of the parts for these lights? Thanks
  10. When riding I have seen a couple of Harley electra glides with yellow passing lights. They really stood out and I could see them coming much better than the standard passing light. Cant help but think it would help with being noticed. Does anyone know whether you can get yellow units that will replace the stock Yamaha passing light? Thanks JR
  11. SO I BIT THE BULLET AND INSTALLED MY "PASSING LAMPS" ON SUNDAY TOOK ME ABOUT 4 HOURS(FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER)..AND A SIX PACK OF "GUINESS".LOL...THANKS TO ALL OF THE "VRs" THAT OFFERED HELP.BUT I HAD TO TRY IT ON MY OWN.
  12. I purchased a mounting bar and passing lamp off of E-bay for my 08 RSV. Either I have over looked the instructions or they didn't send any. I am an electrician so the electrical part is no problem. I'm looking for the mechainical instructions. I've searched for a thread with mechanical instructions and didn't find any. Found a lot on the electrical side.....that doesn't mean there isn't one, I just couldn't find it. My questions are: 1. How do I incorporate the blinkers? 2. Exactly where does it mount? 3. Mechanically, how much time should I plan on spending mounting the lights? Any advise would be appreciated.... Thanks!!
  13. Does anyone have a pictorial for adding passing lamps online?

  16. I know I've seen it somewhere here. But, for the life of me I can't find it now. The instructions to installing passing lamps on my RSV. These are the yammy brand. Any help out there? Snow is almost all gone....with some luck we should be able to get the bikes out very soon!
  17. I have a 1996 Royal Star and I recently bought some passing lamps. But I don't know how to wire them. I have seen the diagrams and posts on this site but would love to have actual photos. Anyone have pics? Thanks.
  18. I'm in the middle of installing my factory passing lamp mount and ran into a snag. I've just attached the passing lamps themselves to the mount and now I'm in the process of attaching the turn signals, problem is, I can't make the connection because of the rubber sleeve. Is this supposed to be removed before installation? Or is there a way to wrestle it on properly? (took a lot of twisting and pulling to remove the signals from the original bar in the first place) Bluez
  19. http://www.venturers.org/Forum/templates/subSilver/images/icon_minipost.gifPosted: Tue Mar 24, 2009 3:59 pm Post subject: Matching lightshttp://www.venturers.org/Forum/templates/subSilver/images/lang_english/icon_quote.gif http://www.venturers.org/Forum/templates/subSilver/images/lang_english/icon_edit.gif Does anyone know if there are bulbs for the passing lights that will be closer in color to Silverstars. I changed my headlight bulb and I love it but now the passing lights look weak. Thanks Bob
  20. Could someone please tell me where I could find the adapter that allows you to still split the fairing on a RSV without removing the Passing lights? I know I saw this on a thread here, but I can no longer find it. Any help would be great.. JM
  21. I need some help. When I got my previously owned Venture, the passing lights were already installed and were setup to be on all time. Here is the problem: they quit working and I do not know how to fix them. Electrical is not my strong point! • Do they have a separate fuse (if so I could not find one) • What are they wire to? • Do I have to take the front cowl apart? Any help is appreciated,[/size]
  22. My Passing Light Spacer arrived today and I must say that Tony does really nice work! Now for the fun part... sorry to cut this short but I've got a small project to do!
  23. Hey Everyone.... I have looked and looked on the site and have not found anything about the following I got from the Star Touring Remedy List... Do NOT buy the Venture passing lamps. Instead, buy the V-Star halogen passing lamps. They will fit the Venture passing lamp mounts with no problem. Remove the red wiring from the switch in one of the lamp housings and wire it to the Venture lamp switch. Why do this? Unlike the sealed beams, the halogen lamps have a replaceable H3 bulb. Pull out the bulbs and keep them as spares. Purchase the PIAA or Silverstar Ultra H3 bulbs. They are still 35 watt bulbs (i.e. do not consume more power), but put out 70 watts of light. Passing lamps part no.: STR-4NK35-10-00 OK...$88.00 for the H-3 Lamps on this site fhttp://www.motorsportssupercenter.com/pages/newvehicles/viewlines/62/Yamaha_Lines.aspx for the Halogen passing lamps....Unless there is an EASY way to change the Passing Lamps...I did see some posts for the Adjure lights...ANYONE here do this mod?....I have done the Silverstar Bulb for the Headlight.... ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS....:confused24: George In Virginia...
  24. Well, After looking everywhere for a good way to mount a set of passing lamps on my first gens this is what I came up with. While in the garage looking at my wifes gs 650g , I noticed that the windshied brackets might just work for this project. You know, the kind for the universal mount type shields. I guess I was actually onto something this time. They look great and are very adjustable, up, down in out and side to side. I hope this helps someone elce, any questions let me know if i can help. Best regards. Kurt
  25. :detective:I want to install the factory passing lamps but wish to get them off the ignition switch. Relays have been mentioned and I wanted to know why a relay. Couldn't you wire direct to the accessory post and switch them as intended beside the 12 volt plug? Could some one go over the wiring from the start.
