  1. i am happier than a dead pig in the sunshine!!! i do hope it is contagious! i love it when "stuff" comes together, as planned! the HIPSHOT said that!:dancefool:
  2. Got back a few days ago with mom and had a great time. The cruise ship was alright but if I do it again it'll be in a camper and at a slower pace. I love that 3rd picture, it's exactly as was seen with no lens modification. Just georgous. Ride safe a God bless. Prayers are with everyone down south in Texas.
  3. I bought a V-star after 25 years of non-riding. I discovered I still love riding and surprisingly so does my wife of 2 years. I say surprisingly because she had never ridden before I bought this bike. We like it so much that I thought about buying a RSTD for more comfort on longer trips. In fact I had fallen in love with them until I found one that I thought was a good buy. It was an '05 with 4K on it. I had the money in my pocket and was ready to buy until I test drove it. It had a loud whine every time I gave it the slightest bit of throttle. I ran from it, but after reading up on it on the internet it seems to be common with this bike. My question is, if you have this whine do you get used to it, or does it finally drive you crazy? Jim
  4. Please join me in congratulating Poledar (Bill Darling) on the great news of his engagement and upcoming wedding. For so many of us, our love of riding is only enhanced by a person that we love sharing our joy. I'm very happy that Bill has found that special person. I hope she joins our site and becomes a part of our VentureRider family.
  5. I just got a 2008 Venture and absolutely love it! Great upgrade from the Suzuki C50. So, now I'm into the fun part...accessorizing! Georgia gets a bit hot and I've already ordered the lower vents for my legs but someone mentioned that they've seen a vented windshield. Does anyone have one?? If so, how do you like it and where did you find it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Ride Safe... Dee Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.
  6. How do I begin to tell you how lucky I am to have you in my life? I'll start by saying what an honor it is for me to be your wife. You're my best friend in the good times and my rock in times of sorrow. You're the reason for sweet yesterdays and my promise for tomorrow. I never thought I could feel this loved until I became your wife. You made this year and every year the best one of my life. For you, I thank the Lord above You’ve given me hope, inspiration and truth Because of you I feel never-ending youth Each morning I wake and see your face I know in you, I’ve found my place Our bond is extraordinary, beautiful, and real It’s remarkable how wonderful you make me feel We belong together, you and I That, the world cannot deny Never in my life will I find another man Who could ever fulfill me the way you can I will love you forever in every way That will remain constant until my dying day. I love you! Bobbie P.S. Is that the smell of a freshly baked cherry pie?
  7. Sorry not a one of you could get a bike running to show up at squids ride this weekend maybe next time you could trailer them up there and we could all work on getting one running for a ride as I would love to see one some time thats not just in a Pic in the gerage or sittin on the side of the road anyways we all had a good ride without working on a scoot Dray
  8. Wow! Somebody got a great e-bay deal! Item number: 170241895667 I love those 1st gens Iowa Guy
  9. Just sharing a few more Central Australia shots with you. Don't you just love the colours of the outback. Might entice a few more of you to "come on down." I'd love to do the trip again - this time on the RSV. Need riding companions though. #1 - me and my bride at The Olgas. #2 - me at Uluru at sunset. #3 - Uluru next morning from the opposite side. #4 - my bride sitting on the rim of Kings Canyon.
  10. Hi everybody, I need some of your knowledge and opinions folks. I have a stock 07 RSV. I'm 5'7" and I'm on my tips of my toes when I stop. I spoke with the yamaha dealer and they said there is a lower kit, but it only lowers it 1 inch. I've read the past thread about seat height, but is there a lower kit that will drop the bike 2 inchs? Basically, I need at two inches...any thoughts, ideas. I really love my bike and was planning keeping it until it died, but if I can't resolve the height of the bike issue, I'm not going to be able to keep it...it's just too tall for me. Larry
  11. I dont know how to tell you all how I feel about the Secret Squirrel Bike and being thought of they way the members here think of me. I want to tell you all that this came as a complete surprise to me and I still dont really know what to say.I told some at Dons that I really dont deserve the bike but the reply I recieved from all I talked to about this is a unanamouse yes you do so that being as it is I greatfully accept the 86 Secret Squirrel bike and want to say from the bottom of my heart a very big Thank You to all that had anything at all to do with this. I also want to say that if I was not married to the greatest wife in the world I would not be able to do for the members of this site like I do.Margaret is the one that makes it possible for me to travel and lend a hand on so many of the members bikes.I have yet to meet one single member that I would not help.I know that many of you have given of your time money and moral support to the project and Yes Lonna I will keep this one clean I promise. Brad and Lonna thank you for the work you put into this bike for me when your bike is in pieces in your garage at this time.I LOVE YOU GUYS and all of our members... I did have to tinker with the bike on the way home but I know what the problem is and have ordered the parts already today so nest weekend I will be making this bike as dependable as my Blonde 83 has been for the last 90k miles. Oh by the way my insurance agent told me I need more friends like I have here so he can get more Money out of me.:mo money: Thank You all again for the Honor of being a member of this family and the gift of Love I recieved this past weekend Jeff
  12. We're thinking about retiring again... This time to the South Texas area and would love to have some input on the area from Rockport to Brownsville... no more than an hour, from the coast... If anyone lives in this area, I'd love to ask some questions, so please drop me an email at 1bigyeti@gmail.com ... Thanks... Tom:backinmyday:
  13. Ron had a surprise for me this weekend. We went to a Harley open house. We ran into some old friends there, who have been Harley owners for years. We wound up looking around at all the new Harleys and went on a test drive. We had so much fun, I guess we got caught up in the moment. The dealer took us in the back of the shop and showed us an 07' Ultraclassic, that had just been repossessed , it was beautiful. It was the two tone red color that we have always loved. White walls, extra chrome and a deluxe CD player. I do not know what happened after that. My mind is a bit foggy. All I know, is we signed up to buy this bike and they took our RSV in trade. I know this is a shock to some members here, and including me too, but I guess you really do not always know someone, even if you have been married for 35 years. It turns Ron has always really wanted a Harley and he decided it is now or never. I will still be on here from time to time just to keep up with what is going on with everyone. I have made what I would consider some good friends here just from being on chat almost every night. I cannot say I am not sorry to give up our RSV, because I really did love it, if it is okay to love a motorcycle. I wanted to come to the Maintenance Day this year, to get to finally meet some of you in person. I still want to come, but I guess it will depend upon Ron. These are the sacrifices I guess a woman has to make to keep her husband happy.
  14. So, I get a new pair of Avons Venoms put on. Love 'em, feel great all the way home from the shop. I decide I might as well clean the beast, so I get out the Mr. Clean Car Wash and scrub it down. (By the way, don't y'all just love that Mr. Clean?) I am admiring the new rubber when whats this? a dam defect in the tires? Looks like a tiny slice in the edge .... WTF.... I'm pissed... store is closed... I'm ranting and raving... when I look closer,................ its the dam SNAKE HEAD trademark molded into the tire ...... HAD TO LAUGH!!!
  15. This is a Harley ad...yeah, yeah, yeah, I know...but it's good...Gotta love their marketing. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/content/pages/2008_campaigns/screw_it/screw_it.jsp?locale=en_US&source_cd=Email_ScrewIt_050508

  17. It is one year today. Although this belongs mainly in the memorial thread, I am posting here due to information on the accident, lawsuit and other information that maybe helpful to other riders some day. Please record your life with photos, notes, cards and emails. Are you on the computer at night or in the morning when your spouse and kids are in bed, at work or school? Send them an email. Let them know you love them, adore them, etc. Leaving for work? Packing a lunch? Stick in a note saying you love that person. Proud of your new bike? Get a FAMILY photo of all of your around it. Anniversary coming up? Mark it on your calendar with stars and hearts. Keeping these little momentos in a box, in the computer, etc come in handy in the case of a lawsuit. The insurance companies want PROOF you were a great dad, great mom, super husband or wife. I have taken in a LOT of photos, love notes, cards, emails Tom sent me long after I had gone to bed that prove his 'significance' as a husband and father. Who would have ever guessed one would need to prove their worth. Lets not talk about his wages. They do not care. Tom is being blamed for 50% of the accident. Their stint is, He CHOOSE not to stop, but to try to go around the back of the trailor. This is based on the driver of the truck and the driver of the car behind the trailor. I am going to give my deposition June 18th. I have been warned, and will go in to be briefed, that it will be brutal. I cannot be defensive when they ask questions like "how often did you have sex? What different ways did you have sex? What hobbies did you have together? How much time were you together when not at work? What medical problems did your husband have? What drugs did he take? on and on and on. I plan to have my cousin go with me to sit by me and help keep me calm. I have to put it in my head "they only care about the money. Keep your cool. Its just a business deal". I am mad because they are trying to blame HIM for even part of the accident. So, I will stand my ground. I will be calm and answer only what they ask and be careful with my words. I still have not sold Tom's bike. I will be putting it in the paper soon. It needs to be sold. I no longer have insurance on it, so I guess the guy will just have to start it and see that it runs. I do not want to be liable for anyone driving it. The kids and I are doing better every day. Its rough, but it will get better...one day at at time. Thanks AGAIN and AGAIN for all the love and support that has poured out from this site. You were and are Tom E.'s family. You saw to it we had your support, and we appreciate it so much. I will be printing up all of the things said about Tom and taking it to the lawyer's office to add to the testimony of his family here and his life, with Don's permission. I am not sure if that is legal or not, to print what you all have said in condolences. I keep trying to gather each piece of EVIDENCE of Tom's life. And all of you were a big part of that. I may even print the thong threads.. That thread was the last great laughs we had together. Tom loved a play on words and rushed to the site for weeks before the accident to see what else had been said about those silly thongs. He laughed so hard. Couldn't wait to tell me what someone else had said about that. Funny how loosing your purse can put the ladies into a tail spin about cheery pairs of thongs. I cherish those laughs, those smiles you all gave him. Thanks again, you sweet loving riders! I LOVE YOU! Sherry, Jason, TJ, DJ and Randy (TJ graduates from Highschool memorial weekend. Jason broke up with his GF in Nov and moved out in Dec to the UOP campus. DJ will graduate next year. Randy and DJ have both grown at least an inch. Randy will graduate 8th grade next year.)

  21. I want to say thanks to all replys to my clutch slipping problem. It turns out that there was too much fluid in the resevoir and was slipping when it got heated up. But I also just changed oil the day befor, I dont think that was my problem after checking the fluid level. Im going to bleed it untill it runs clear and not fill it to the top, it is so full could get one more drop in it if I wanted to. And only slips when its warmed up. From what I see asking this next question is a hot topic on here but i would hear what you guys say about it. I want to run good oil in this bike (84 xvz12 with 16000 miles) and yes its the real miles on ths bike! I want to run the best oil I can for this. I love mobile 1 full syn. does anyone run this and what wt. do you run. If it does not do good in this bike, I would like to know, so I dont waste my time and money. Thanks for every ones help, this is a great site and so glad I found it. I love my bike and dont know mch about it. I have alway had a bike and did my own work, but this thing is a beast and so different than most bikes!! Thanks again Larry
  22. Hello, I am new to this forum and I have actually posted this on another Venture themed forum, but I am looking for all the ideas I can get. I have an 83 Venture that is in bad need of help cosmetically. Mechanically the bike is sound and runs great, aside from the need for a spring tune up of course. But because of the cosmetic condition I have been considering what to do with the bike. That was until my friend sent me this picture of a 78 Goldwing. I was curious to know if any of you have seen anything like this done with a 1st Gen Venture. I would love any input you all may have and maybe even som pics of a stripped down venture. I would love to get as much info as I can get before I begin. anyway here is the pic.
  23. and all the other Long Riders out there. Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of lowell. But I also think it would be an appropriate theme song for a lot of the members here. The Long Way Home (Tom Waits) Well, I stumbgled in the darkness I'm lost and alone Thiugh I said I'd go before us And show the way back home Ther's a light up ahead I can't hold onto her arm Forgive me pretty baby but I always take the long way home Money's just somethihng you throw Off the back of a train Got a handful of lightening And a hat full of rain And I know that I said I'd never do it again And I love you pretty baby but I always take the long way home I put food on the table And a roof overhead But I'd trade it all tomorrow For the highway instead Watch your back if I should tell you Loves the only thing I've ever known One thing for sure pretty baby I always take the long way home. You know I love you Babbby More than the whole wide world You are my woman I know you are my pearl Let's go out past the party lights We can finally be alone Come with me and we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home Come with me, together we can take the long way home.
  24. Hi Everyone, Well here's your chance! Do you have an awesome FREEWARE application/utility that you would like to tell others about? We all use computers and most of us need help occassionally so here's a spot to tell us about a program that you just love...and hopefully it's a FREEWARE program so it doesn't cost us anything! Here's the link...... Would love to hear your suggestions! http://www.windows-xp-update.com/share-your-freeware-gems.html p.s. I would be out riding however North Bay Ontario got 12-15 centimeters of snow Friday / Saturday....so we are a little depressed here in the Bay!
  25. He went up a little to far up with the powder coat, I will need to sand that off before i install them. They were right at $100.00 to have powder coated like this. I love them, pretty neat.
