  2. Sorry to rub it in for those of you buried under snow! Well, no I'm not! I lived in the Buffalo NY are(Lackawanna) until I moved to Vegas 23 yrs ago. I'm the ride captain for the American Legion Post 8 ALR. We had 23 bikes for a 200 mile run today. Went to Mesquite for lunch, then back along Lake Meade to Vegas. Temp was in the mid 60's sun shinning. My RSV in the lead of 20 Harleys. The way it should be!!
  3. I'm heading to Vegas for a training course in a couple of weeks and was thinking about renting a bike for a day. Can anyone recommend a rental place that will not nickel and dime me to death. Thought I'd take a run from Vegas to Lake Havasu to see the London Bridge. I've never rented a bike before so any tips will be appreciated.
  4. Put about 45 miles on this afternoon. They postponed the 3 hour enduro motorcycle race on the local lake because of too much water on the lake. Can't blame them. It was 30 degrees colder when they did it last year, but they weren't going to be wet. I've been fighting my couple times a year lower back problems (had part of a disc taken out in 95). The one thing that always seems to fix it is get on the bike and ride. And it seems too have worked again, Later, Scooter Bob:) Can't resist.. Scooter Bob... who thinks that 1/2 gallon of gas is much cheaper than a chiropractor appointment
  5. Getting ready to jump in the shower, no water!!!:scratchchin: First thing going through your head is, is the water bill paid? Answered that by looking at the meter going 90mph . Must have caught it right after it happened 'cause I don't have a lake anywhere yet, It's raining cats and dogs , guess I'll tackle that in the a.m. Bummer, I hate getting dirty:bang head:

We camped for the first time since the kids were small at Arkabutla Lake near Tunica,Ms. Had a good turnout for St. Judes, Thanks Lewis for the effort you put into this for the kids. And it was great that Nancy (MeanDog wife) could make it. Here is a few pics, will post a link to the rest when loaded on photobucket. 12. We made it! what a great trip even without the bear tooth pass. Went for a nice ride from Lipan to San diego by way of Yuma, to Reseda, to Santa Cruz, over to Lake Tahoe, then to Salt lake. on to Rock Springs through Cheyenne down thru Denver across the Raton Pass east to Amarrillo and Witchita Falls back to Lipan. Don't sound like much really rote down like that, but the things we saw and the folks we met, would not trade for it at all. Had a great time. A few wrong turns and such. The Mighty Steed performed flawlessly. The Butler mod to Dawns seat helped her alot but we did need to stop in tahoe and get her a sheepskin pad for her bottom. All in all a great trip. Can't wait for next year!

  16. Just got back from a 2 week trip to Nova Scotia, we traveled through some beautiful scenary in NY, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine...though some of Maine's roads were in bad shape....We passed Mt Washington where some of the locals told us that it had the highest wind gusts anywhere. On the way across we stayed in Syracuse, St Johnsburg and St Johns NB then on to Baddeck in Cape Breton. We did the Cabot Trail which was gorgeous then down to Sackville just out of Halifax to our campsite. We saw the tall ships in Halifax and boarded quite a few, went down to Peggy's Cove and saw the Swiss Air monument, then Lunenburg...which was the sunniest day we had, when we got back to the camp ground we had a lobster feast set up and went through 24 lbs between 8 of us and only cost $50 a couple. On the way back we went through Lake Placid, then crossed Lake Champlain on the ferry from Burlington. In all we did 6000 km, had a great time in spite of the lousey weather and no problem with the bike at all, unlike the Hondas that went, one of the Valkyries had his alternator crap out...$1100 to get another...the other had his rear brakes go and a Gold wing had to have the rear tire replaced. Sorry we couldn't make the Rally, just to much going on at the moment. Hope everyone has fun. 17. It appears my wife and i will be attending this rally over the labor day weekend. It's put on by the Americade rally folks only it's much smaller. It's the first year for it and it's limited to 300 people. Also it's based in Burlington Vermont instead of Lake George NY. Anyone else going to this or thinking about it? If so we would like to get together and meet some of our fellow VentureRiders!-Jack

  25. OK... how do I begin. Lets get straight to it. Yesterday at around 4pm just east of Devils Lake, Big Bob had a serious crash. He left the bike at around 62 miles per hour. He was taken to Devils Lake hospital and then life flighted to GrandForks as Devils Lake didnt have the type of care he needed. He is alive and unless there is a serious change he will stay that way. His injuries consist of this head injury, plus several stitches on his forehead...they did a nice job doing that. eye injury...they are quit worried about him loosing the right eye. 6 broken ribs and possible lung injury which they are very concerned about. broken wrist which has had surgery and will likely need more. some but not much road rash from the sleeve of his leather jacket being pushed up his arm. broken or fractured disc...they dont seem too worried about this as he was moving his legs after the crash. Details about the crash. He had fallen back and had told us he was going to. Then the last bike Pete, reported that he couldnt see him anymore even on the long straights. We stopped and Marilyn turned around and went to see what was up. While she was gone a soldier stopped and asked us if we were riding with another gentleman with a white bike. Yes....well he crashed and was back near the rest stop. We turned our bikes around and headed there....Marilyn in the mean time was racing back to us trying to call us on the cb to tell us the news. She had arrived just as they were working on him. She was almost sick. Another lady raced across the highway and told her he was alive and was going to Devils Lake hospital. We arrived on scene to find his bike and trailer totally demolished in the center median. The persons following him said he was doing 62 miles per hour (8 mph below the speed limit) when his trailer started to go and it was almost like a huge gust of wind just threw him into a high speed wobble. He crashed hard on his right side. One of the folks following was an off duty paramedic. The police were almost literally on the scene as they were writing a ticket on the other side of the highway about a half mile down. Response time was very quick. By the time we arrived he was already on his way to the hospital. Bob was lucky in some ways....he was fully geared up...jacket helmet, chaps, steel toe boots....the gear saved his life the police said. We went to the hospital and he was in a great deal of pain, but managed to say that he hurt like hell. We went to GrandForks last night and stayed the night there and went to see him today. He looked better but is intubated due to the lungs, and in a semi- drug induced coma to help with pain and because he was becoming combative...he hated the tube. We left there around 4 ish and are now at Garys. His daughter is with him. She has all his personal belongings. We had cleaned out everything he had from his bike and loaded up our bikes to take for him. A prayer would be nice. He is a tough man and should be ok in the long run. The gang here was going to run to GrandForks but when we informed them he was in a coma they decided not to. We will update this thread Monday night when we get home. We are stopping to see him on our way back. He is covered with travel insurance thank goodness. Take care everyone and thanks for listening.
