  1. Well I wired everything up and gave it the smoke test......and I didn't realize there were two stock horns! Do I need to disconnect the other front horn also? cause, the stebel sounds very weak! not loud at all............any idea's?..... clawed needs help........
  2. I have a 2000 RSV. It has been in the same spot all summer as I can not ride this year. I start it from time to time just to hit the air horns and hear the bike run. Now when I try to start it all I get is a tapping sound. The lights do not to dim and I am using a new bat. Everything works but the starter. I have no idea what to do. HELP When I remove the left cover all I see is box with fuses in it,the carbheat sensor, and a couple wries that I have my air horns and the original horns tied to.
  3. I have 3, count them, three sets of passenger grab rails for a MK1 up for "Grabs" if anyone needs them. These are all virtually rust free and in very good shape. Also, I have a pair of stock horns available as well. There's a lot of 1st gen parts I will be getting rid of in the coming months...
  4. The horns on our bike are pathetic. I've put off replacing them, but the other day I really wanted to give someone a blast, so now is the time to replace the OEM horns. I've done a seach and read several good threads about how to wire Stebel air and electromagnetic horns. I'd like to go electro because I think they may be easier to install than the nautilus. Please tell me if I'm wrong on that. I'm seriously considering putting these on our 84 VR: http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-magnum-motorcycle-horns-dual-tone-chrome-p-280.html http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/Tony1M/chromehorns.jpg Any first gen folks have these on their bike? If so, what do you think of them? Will they fit on the same brackets where the OEM horns are? (That is, can you just remove the OEM horns and install the new ones on the very same OEM brackets?) If you have these on your bike, please post some photos of your installation. Thanks for any information. Tony
  5. Folks... Just found a great deal on Air horns and decided to let every one know. I bought the one for the motorcycles for $ 30.00 and got a couple extras for an old powerwagon that I'm rebuilding. I got the black ones but they also have the chrome and marine grade. Take a look at the website, it's simple and inexpensive....just thought I'd let you know. Ken Here's the address: http://Kalmari.ecrater.com
  6. I had the pleasure of meeting my first venturerider brother today. Walter (wes0778) what a cool guy. He showed me what the big craze is about on these Stebel air horns, folks that will be my next purchase. Anyway Walter good to meet you my friend. Carl
  7. OK, so like many others, I bought one of them Bad boy air horns at Harbor Freight. The stock horns I had were just about as useful as a tender whisper in an offender's ear, so I had to do something. I bought the horn, happened on to some scrap 3/8" aluminum to cut a bar from, and went to work. The original horn bracket was way too short to mount the air horn, so I cut a new bracket from the aluminum scrap I had. I cut the bracket, drilled the holes and mounted the horn. http://i38.tinypic.com/2pt544i.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/2885uzo.jpg I ran it like this for a couple of weeks and everything worked fine, but I really didn't like where I had it mounted. It just stuck out there like a sore thumb. So I set to looking for an alternate location, preferably down lower at the front of the front engine guard. We just happened to have a couple of small 90 degree brackets laying around at work, so I spirited them home and got to work once again. Here's what I came up with. http://i33.tinypic.com/2cyo844.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/16gjtyd.jpg http://i35.tinypic.com/2edyyhg.jpg I like this set-up a lot better. And since I have an extra bracket, I can now mount a second horn on the other side! The overall appearance is a lot cleaner and there is less exposed wiring and I now have two spots where the original horns were that I can use for mounting passing lights. my only concern at this point is concerning heat from the exhaust pipe possibly melting the plastic. I've only had the horn in this location one day so far and I check it every time I stop to see if it's getting hot. So far it's staying quite cool.
  8. I bought a set of the Freeway Blasters last year. High and low. I hooked them up to the stock wires and was disappointed that they didn't seem much louder than the stock horns so I put them aside for later. I read the posts on the wiring of the aftermarket horns and with a little help from Bongobobny got the relay installed right. I had Squidleys driving light brackets on the bike so they mounted there. I found that if you rotate the horns to point toward the radiator side panels they resonate nicely off of that. If you can call these horns nice. heh heh heh! So last week they got put to the test. Twice! In one day. I was riding west on a four lane city street at about 35 mph in heavy traffic. I was in the inside lane coming up on an SUV on the right. As I was passing, and I was shoulder to shoulder with the driver, a blue hair wannabe, she drifted into my lane about half way before I could hit the button. Apparently the horns work as she swung back to the right so far she jumped the curb. I thought that was a bit dramatic but that was nothing to what happend next. I stopped at a light a few blocks later and she pulled up next to me and rolled her window down and proceeded to rip me a new one. She was yelling that I scared her to death. She just kept going on about how "I" could have killed "her". All I could do was grin at her. Well, I gave her another touch to the horn button to go with my smile. The window rolled back up pretty fast but her mouth was still running behind the glass. Couldn't hear the rest of her ranting though. Oh well. So all I can say is they work as advertised. The fella that was directly behind me in a cage that I may have been sitting on his hood if I'd hit my brakes hard pulled up to me at another light and gave me the . He said that was the best thing he's seen in weeks and loved my horns. At least some people get it. But for the money......inexpensive.....less that $35.00 for both and a relay it was well spent. I'm still here. That's all that matters to me. Mike
  9. Ordered 2 horns. Question, I am going to mount them on the rear bolt holding the passenger floorboards. Can I splice the wires from one relay to both horns? The relay is 30 amps. I was thinking of wireing one horn and spliceing the wires from that horn to the other horn. Hope you can understand what I mean. tew47
  10. Ok, the last thing I have to do on my wiring is find the wire from the factory horn buttom so I can locate it to use it as a trip for the relay on my new LOUD horns. I already removed my old horns and built a new harness for the new ones but that may have killed the old circuit. When I am probing the wires in the handlebar harness I'm not finding a hot one when I push the horn buttom. And yes....the key is on. Thought I might ask before I have to tear down the switch control to see what it is.
  11. Got a funny one. Installed a brand new set of horns, Bad Boys to exact, put them in the faring, right side, right behind the grill and tied them in with cable ties, So far so Good. Wired them according to specks. Used the original horn wire for the primary side of the relay, ran a new line from the accessory post to the secondary side of the relay, then to the horn and then to ground. I did that right EH? Well so I thought as well. Tested it and boy does that give off some sound, real nice, all done, on to the next project. In the process I needed to fire up the engine. Turned on the ignition, pushed the kill switch to run, pulled in the clutch lever and pushed the start button, and low and behold there wasn't a soul in front of the scoot anymore (not that there were any to start with), the sound coming from the horns was totally unexpected and a way too loud for a confinded space, but the scoot was running, so glory be. had to shut all that racket off so I turned the ignition off and all was quiet, good so far, at least that worked, but now to try that again, let's see,,,carefully turn on the ignition, yep ok there,,,hit the start button and WWoww, them there horns done wake a person right up from down under,,,,turn the ignition off again and am now perplexed,,,,well ,,,,,took out the fuse and through the test all was quiet,, what a blessing, I was having thoughts of needing a new radio just to be able to hear my tunes over all the constant noise,,,and somebody said to put two off those thingies on my machine???????are they nuts,,,,,,,not on mine if they're going to be going off constantly. Went to the laundry to wash off last years leftovers and when I got back I thought I had enough guts to try that fuse once more. Sure enough, put the fuse in, carefully turned on the ignition,,,you never know eH,,,,,,,and then hit the start button,,,,now it got me totally confused,,,,everything worked perfect,,,,,now how am I going to find out what went haywire. Three days later,,, it's still good,,,,,,,but if you hear someone coming down the street with his horn going full blast,,, get the coffee ready,, it'll be me and I'll be looking for some help
  12. Upgraded to TWO badboy air horns. I was ready for it and even I jumped when I hit the thing. I think I'll be scaring cagers into thinking they just cut off a semi truck instead of a motorcycle. I got rid of the fairing air ducting (it's useless anyways, I could not feel air from those vents even at 70 and an un-gloved hand in front of the vent.) and installed them in the space with their horns pointing down. you really have to take off the front fairing to get them in there though. but it's worth it. http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/rodi_2044_487357928
  13. 1. Get a (mercury?) tilt switch and any toggle switch, (10 amp?) I had a tilt switch laying around from Radio Shack for years. From pink wire side of the horns (or experiment), won't hurt anything, go the the toggle switch then to the tilt switch then to ground. The tilt switch will be tilted on an angle so it is off when the bike is on the side stand, but once the bike is pulled upright to ride (or be stolen) the tilt switch makes contact. Horns go off (if it is hot wired). 2. To make it work any time, just disconnect the brown wire to both horns and run a fused wire from the battery to both horns. Horns now will work anytime with the tilt switch or the horn button. Locate switches in one of the locked side pockets of the fairing. Very simple, very loud, very unexpected, very cheap. May want to cover electrical connectors at the horns so they can't be disconnected. Mercury switches maybe banned, I'm sure other types are available.
  14. Been a few postings latley concerning Stebel Horns, and horns in general. Last few days I've been researching " Horns " as to the loudest avialable. I drove around the other day, looking for " Stebel " Horns, couple of auto parts, and 2 motorcycle dealers. The answer was " we don't carry them " . Hmmm ?? Ok, yesterday I was at local auto parts, to get something else, I noticed Horns on the shelf, labled, " CARRAND HORNS " They were shaped, about the same as the " Volvo Horns " or " Fiamm " car horns that we are all familiar with. These were Labled, " Magnum Blaster, Horn, 138 Decibels " So on close examination, I see they are actually made by " STEBEL " !!! --Apparently, Stebel Horns, are being sold in the U.S. Under other brand Names -- So I bought one, the " High Tone " took it home, and Tried it on The bench with spare Battery, WOW!!! IT WAS LOUD. !!!! I compared to my bike which has 2 of the WOLO, ( same as Volvo, and Fiamm style ) ( 119 DB ) And the original BEEP Beep OEM Yamaha installed. ( total of 4 units installed ) ----- THE ONE, HIGH TONE, STEBEL 138DB WAS LOUDER, THEN THE 4 HORNS INSTALLED ON THE BIKE !!!! ---It actually hurt my ears, the bike installation, did not. ( Test, done , INSIDE the garage, with doors closed ) So I ran down and bought the Low tone, I installed the Two STEBEL's in place of the 2 WOLO's, and My - &*$%^ are they loud. No Air pump to mess with. I have them mounted Inside the Air Intaks on each fairing. Just remove the Plastic Grill, an Stuff them into the Air Intakes. Its a tight fit, but they do go in. The " Carrand Horns " P/n is 3-0115 and 3-0114--- The instructions, claim they should be fused at 10 Amps-- Each---- I am useing a Bosh Relay, and #16 Wires, and have a 15 AMP ATM type, fuse, feeding power to the Bosh Relay. Useing #16 stranded wire, to carry Power. Stock Horn Switch supplies a Ground to the Relay Solinoid. I'm not saying this is the best set-up, but, ---- I'm Happy with it !!!! Beep Beep Beep, ( no more of that nonsence !! ) Bye the way, Its still Raining in Seattle !!!!

    air horns

I need help on installing air horns on my 2005 Venture. I have taken out the two horns and I need to know which wires to hook up to the horn wires to make the compressor work.
  18. notice anything funny about the middle picture? Front Mount Air Horns For GL 1500 1988-1997, GL 1200 1984-1987, GL 1100 1980-1983, GL 1000 1975-1979 http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_135.jpg http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_197.jpg http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_193.jpg Triple chrome plated. All Air horn systems are bolt on plug in applications. Requiring about 30 minutes to install. They include the horn set, dust/bug covers, all necessary hardware, hoses, wiring, fuse, relay, and detailed instructions with pictures. The air compressor creates instant air pressure to the horns. Since the pressure is created so fast there is no need for a storage tank as on Semi Trucks and RVs. Although the pressure is very low (12-15 psi) it delivers a large volume of air (3 CFM or cubic feet per minute). This low-pressure high volume air supply causes the diaphragm inside the horn to vibrate at a high rate of speed or *frequency* the exact speed at which it vibrates is varied by the length of the horn or trumpet. Together the horn set produces an extremely loud 128-decibel warning blast. This is approximately 4 times louder than most electric motorcycle horns, which usually rate at 87 decibels. AHFRT Fits:
  19. Can anyone give me dirrections on hooking up the relay for the Sebel air horns to the existing horn button? I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks, Dandy1
  20. I have a Stebel Compact Natulis air horn on my bike. I replaced one of the factory horns and used the bracket made by Carbon One to mount it. I purchased a Stabel Compact Truck Horn and am looking for mounting options..... Who has two or more compact air hons mounted??? I could use some photos.
  21. My horns are stock and are not working. Both wires going to the horns are hot. Shouldn't one of them be a ground? Thanks for any help. Jackie
  22. ...are not working. I know the one that is located by the rear right passenger peg, where is the other one located at? When I press the horn button, the horn is barely audible. Anyone heard of both of the stock horns going out?
  23. A few weeks ago I replaced the stock horns on the VR with air horns. Today a guy started to swerve into my lane when he got stuck behind a stopping truck. A blast from the pair of 118db horns sent him back in a hurry, he almost rolled he jerked back so fast. Then he sat there for a long time before changing lanes. I think he may have actually soiled himself:)
  24. WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO BUY STEBEL HORNS? BEEN SEARCHING AND $51.99 IS THE BEST I CAN FIND WITH SHIPPING. JUST WONDERING IS THERE ANY CHEEPER ONES OUT THERE?
  25. Ok, my Rivco air horns quit? Press the button, sounds like its farting? Can't find a hose leak. Can the diaphram go bad? Is it worth repairing or replace with one of the other horns that have been of recent discusion here?
