  1. I’d like to do a headlight mod and wondering if anyone has a headlight assembly they can part with or knows where to get one. It doesn’t matter if the lens is damaged because I’ll be removing it anyway. If so please let me know. Thanx Charlie
  2. Is there a headlight visor that fits the Venture's headlight? Anyone with any experience with doing this? What brand, etc. Thanks for the info.
  3. Hi, My 83 has a strange quirk. The headlight warning LCD and red warning light will come on. I checked the manual which says that indicates a headlamp failure, except my headlight is just fine, low beam and high beam. I have gotten off the bike to check them, as well as being able to see their reflection on cars/road signs ahead of me. If I flip on the high beam, leave it on for a sec then back off, the LCD indicator and red light will go away. Sometimes I dont see the false error for days, other times it will do it a dozen times in my one hour ride home. Has anyone else seen this? Paul
  4. I need the plastic part that sourrounds headlight glass. The two lower screw holes have broken and if anyone has one I would be interested in purchasing it. Mine is a 83 Model Venture, black in color. I bought one on Ebay a while back but it is for a later model venture if anyone needs one of those. Ronnie
  5. This has had me stumpped for a while. Anyone have any ideas? I have a Kissan headlight modulator and typically ride with it on (brights on) during the daylight hours. With the brights on, I can see the headlight molation flashing ahead of me on the street signs in front of me - way high up on those signs. Additionally ..., the headlight modulation feature is not supposed to work in the dark. When I flip over to my low beam (if I happen to be riding at night), it seems to shed a decent flood of light out in front of me on the road, and I am happy with that adjustment. Of course, if I ride at night I will almost always just ride with my low beam on. However, sometimes when I want to reach-out a little further on up the road ahead of me (to light things up a bit more), when I flip-on the high beam it seems that it's aimed so high that it fails to throw any beam of light out on to the road ahead of me. Now, if I try and adjust the headlight with the adjustment mechanisms in the backside of the fairing in order to lower the high-beam, then the low-beam seems too low. Not that it seems like it should make any difference, but I also have a Silverstar Bulb for the headlight, and I have running lights hooked-up. So, I guess that my question is - How can I lower the high-beam without over-lowering my low-beam? Am I the only one who has noticed this before? Thanks! Pete.
  6. My headlight burns fine on high but is very dim on low beam. I tried a new bulb but it didn't help. Any ideas? Some have suggested the contacts in the switch may be bad. Can this switch be opened to clean the contacts? Any other ideas? Ronnie 83 Venture Standard:depressed::confused07::confused07:
  7. On previous bikes I've owned, I used to cause the low beam filament to be on all the time and just switch the high beam on and off for high or low beams. I would do this by getting into the headlight switch box and simply making a solder bridge across the low beam terminals. This would provide a whole lot more light out front, and was especially nice for night riding. I haven't done this on my current bike and I don't really know why not. I just haven't gotten a round tuit. I also don't do as much after dark riding as I used to. Has anyone else done this, or ever heard of it?
  8. Finally got around to installing the parts I bent up when I dropped my 05.... Total of the damage wasn't bad, thanks to Ponch who 'donated' the trim ring for the headlight. I replaced the headlight and passing light visors, checked the front fairing really well and it diesn't seem damaged.....engine guard was saved by the highway pegs, so I really made out ok. I'm going to add the slightly bent visors to Eck's list...they're usable, and might need some straightening. Also going to make the headlight trim available if anyone needs one really badly. Its usable, just has a crack in it. Now if I only had time to ride the stupid thing!!!
  9. I replaced my headlight with the H4. Last night I went out for a ride to check it. I got better visibility when it was in low beam than when it was in high beam. I checked and both elements are lighting up on high beam so I know the bulb is okay. I adjusted the headlight both up and down and still get the same results. Is it possible to put the H4 bulb in so that it would be 180 degrees out (or upside down so to speak)? When I look at the bulb on high beam it seems that the high beam filament is below the low beam element.
  10. Hi everyone, I think this is my first post. I had my low beam go out on my 83 Venture. I replaced the bulb and noticed the next time I hit the low beams it was again not working. I bought another H4 60/55 and immediately check the low beam and it's still not working. I've adjusted the headlight lower so that the high beam doesn't blind oncoming drivers but this also restrict the range that is lit when driving at night. Has anyone had this problem or any ideas what may be causing this problem.
  11. I have read all of the headlight adjustment post but none tell you which adjustment screw is "up and down" or "right to left". I'm refering to the small recessed screws on the outside (left and right side) of the headlight housing. I was orginally going to change the bulb (to a super white) and adjust the light but I can't get the screws out that hold the headlight ring into the housing. I'm almost to the point of stripping the screw heads. So, I thought I would just adjust the headlight. Thus far I'm landing lear jets on low beam and 747s on high beam. Any help would be appreciated. http://www.yamahamotorcycleforum.com/forum/images/wow/misc/progress.gif
  12. I'm going to up grade the stock headlight bulb with a new Silverstar bulb. My question is when I reach the bulb in the back of the headlight, does it just pull out or do you have to give it a twist? Does it help to wear plastic gloves when handling the bulb? Thanks, BigD
  13. Got a wierd little thing going on with my front headlight. Sometimes it's nice and bright, other times it's dim. My first thought is possibly a bad ground somewhere. It seems to be just confined to the headlight, because I haven't noticed the dash lights dimming. Has anyone else had a situation like this? I'm going to test the regulator and stator first, just to make sure they are ok. The bulb is new, just replaced it, but the old one was doing the same thing.
  14. 91 Venture Royale. My clutch switch broke. The rubber or plastic housing broke right where it goes into the clutch lever assembly. I ordered a new one. My questions are; Where does the other end of the switch wire terminate? The guy at the shop said it was probably behind the headlight. Anybody know for sure? If I'm into the headlight area, should I replace my 17-year-old bulb? Is there a brighter-than-stock replacement bulb that will work and won't overload my system? Thanks
  15. Can anybody help me out with a part number for a Sylvania Silverstar headlight lamp? Thanks
  16. I have the Star lightbar on the front, and the other day I noticed the headlight has a little wiggle where the light bar attaches to the headlight, almost like the bushing was worn or missing. I popped the headlight out and checked the screw, and the bushing, everything seemed ok. was wondering if anyone else noticed this, and if maybe a new bushing would fix it, or something not to worry about. I work 3rd shift, and I haven't noticed any prolems with the light bouncing around at night or anything. Just an annoying thing, knowing it is there thanks Craig:crying:
  17. I think I have the original headlight in my bike. I think it says Kyoti and it does say Made In Japan. When I look Kyoti up on the Internet, I see tractors! Would I benefit from replacing this headlight with something newer? lol. It is dim for sure!
  18. OK folks. Something has been weighing heavy on my mind since Gary's son posted yesterday about the accident. I've been hesitant to bring it up because I know that we are all still grieving over the loss of a very fine member of our VentureRider family but on the other hand, I think it is something that should be mentioned just in case it is something that could cause harm to another member. I'm talking about the comment from the young lady who pulled out from the stop sign that she thought the motorcycle was turning. She thought that the turn signals were on. That is NO excuse for her pulling out so please don't think that I'm making excuses for her. It caused me to wonder though, do you think it's possible that somebody could see a modulating headlight and think that they see the turn signals flashing? I know that Gary did have a modulator on his. I have a headlight modulator on my bike also and have always thought that they are a great idea and make you more visible to other traffic but this turn signal thing now has me wondering if there is a downside to it also and if so, does that downside out weigh the positives. At the very least, I think it is a possibility that we should be aware of.
  19. Do any of you have any experience with the HID lighting systems? Even though I ugraded my headlight on my 83 to an 86 up version, which was a great improvement and have a PIAA bulb, which also helped, I still want more. I am now seeing the HID headlight being offered at a more reasonable price. This appears to be more than just replacing the bulb, but I am not real familiar with the HID system. Anybody got any feedback on this? I know this system has been around on autos for a few years. Also, do any of you know if this system will work with our Computer Monitoring System that our headlight power runs thru. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EFX-H4-MOTORCYCLE-HID-KIT-YAMAHA-86-93-VENTURE-ROYAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ012QQitemZ220234877551QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Randy
  20. Hello All, I recently bought a 1988 VR and I love it!! My problem is the headlight warning light is on with the lcd of course showing the headlight. I go to bright and the light goes to bright (new bulb) the warning goes away for a couple of seconds, then back on again. It's not a big deal as the headlight works perfect just annoying to be riding with the warning on all the time. When I changed the bulb all wiring looks fine. Where does the monitor get it's info from? Thanks in advance, Kim
  21. :confused24:turn signle works ,headlight works 84vr
  22. Read the thread stating any available brown wire is a switched power wire. I've added the amp and some lights to the fender bolts. Got the tank off and power run to the lovely relays. Now I just need switched power. Tap the headlight wire? Or something convenient? The Yamma instructions for adding lights don't give me a warm fuzzy.
  23. I have visores 2006 Venture for all lights and installed all but the head light, I don't know how to install the headlight without braking it. Any help Thanks Ron Dunne PEI Canada
  24. On my 89 Venture, the headlight dimmer rocker switch is quite stiff to move. Tonight was my first night ride and I noticed I can get both the high beam and low beam to be on at the same time. It really isn't all that hard to do even driving on the highway. My question is will it harm anything to ride this way when no other traffic is around? The extra light is kind of nice. Thanks.
  25. I just finished putting my 89 Venture back together after replacing plug wires, battery cables, fixing E4 error in class, refreshed desicant, and replaced back brakes and pistons seals; oh and back behind headlight to see how to replace bulb. I have had a lot of the bike apart, and every connector that I could reach I took apart, cleaned and put some dielectric grease in. However, upon starting up, I thought I noticed a little lag till the headlight/dash lights came on. After running the bike for about 10 min they suddenly went out. I have signal lights, clock etc but no headlight (low or high), no headlight indicator, and no dash lights. So my question is, what/where is the likely culprit connector? I must not have put one back together securely? How about behind the headlight? Oh well, project for tomorrow I guess.
