  1. Planning to replace the fork seals in my 84 and not sure what parts to order. I will need the oil seal 26H-23145-00-00 and the dust seal 26H-23144-00-00, Is there any other parts to consider replacing? Thanks
  2. I have lowered the front forks 7/8 inch. Now when I put the fork tree on there is a 7/8 gap from the top of the fork and tree top ? Have I done something wrong or do I just tightened the upper fork bolts and not be able to put air the front shocks ? I have tried to read all the post about front lowering and have not seen this problem ...could someone please put a photo of the tree after it was lowered....thank you everybody. Cb
  3. i know this question has been ask a few times but i cant seem to put it all together, what do i need to rebuild my front forks? i have new progressive springs and fork seal.
  4. Just wondering what your experience is with the Progressive Suspension Air Fork Balance Kit. 1) How long have you had them? 2) Have you had any trouble with them leaking? 3) Would you buy them again? 4) If you are not using this kit how do you manage to balance your front fork air pressure or do you leave it at “0”?
  5. Just a reminder, I still have fork braces left from the last group buy.... $60 US / $70 Canada
  6. I ordered some fork seals for the venture. A whole $8. Are they a pain to replace? I am an accomplished mechanic, but have never torn into fork seals on any scoot before. Anything I need to watch out for?
  7. Yeah, this is pretty.....but I'd never fork over that much for a bike you can hardly find parts for anymore. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royale-Yahama-Venture-Royale-with-matching-trailor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem1c0c7cb0f0QQitemZ120468582640QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles#ht_500wt_1182
  8. I still have 83-93 fork braces left over from the last group buy. Anyone interested? If not, I guess the next stop will be Ebay. Here's a link to the ad in the classifieds. FORK BRACE
  9. Hey Folks, Need a little help. In May of 2009 I put new Avons on my 2000 RSV (with about 17,500 miles on it and 4000 on the tires) and tightened the bearing for the front fork (bike had a low speed wobble problem). It has since developed an out of balance feeling in the front end that creates a "thump" at low speed that can be felt in the handle bars - kinda what you would feel on a "washboard" gravel road – but I’m not on one at the time. Had the front tire checked for balance and normal wear and it was OK. Have tried different tire and front fork air pressures with no change. At highway speed I can't feel anything. The weird thing is that some days it doesn't do it - or at least as much - maybe it is temperature sensitive? Didn't go to Vogel because I'm not sure what this is - kinda bummed about that. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,
  10. When I stop gently the front brakes or fork make these noises especially when starting out. The service manager says it's normal(surprise). Is it? Also will the front fork hold air for more than a day? Thanks!
  11. Just wanted to say thanks to those that helped with my problem, when I jacked up the front end I could see it was bottoming out, duh---must be my gray blond roots showing!!! Installed a set of Progressive fork springs, thanks also to the tech. talk where there are nice instructions/photos, and was out testing it in less than a hour. The more I ride the trike the more I like it, getting more and more dangerous to ride my two wheeler, forgetting to put my feet down when I stop. As a new guy to the group it's nice to have so many willing to help. I also understand I'm supposed to post some pictures of the trike but will have to get my 9 year old grandson to help with that task. Thanks again for the help.
  12. After testing the waters, it looks like another 'Condor' fork brace group buy is in order. I checked with my supplier and we can get the same price as last year's at $50.00 bucks. So it'll be $60.00 total to your front door for those in the US, and $70.00 total for our VentureRider brothers north of the boarder in Canada due to the extra shipping costs. The flat rate shipping cost also covers the paypal fees. The braces will all be shipped via USPS Priority. Pic of the brace is attached. The Group buy has been closed off for some time now, but there's hope. Extra braces are still available and an ad has been posted in the Classifieds under 1stGen Parts. All payment info is also there. Thanks
  13. Just purchased, in "as is" condition, a 90 Venture Royale with a motor trike conversion. This is a really nice ride but it has a knock in the front end when you hit a good bump in the road. It sounds like metal to metal in the fork tubes. I've checked the triple tree and it's tight and the forks hold air, any thoughts from the experts.
  14. My wife and I own a 1984 VR that we bought almost 4 years ago. It's a fantastic machine that my wife and I ride only a few hundred miles during Edmonton's short summers. The bike has 74K MILES (US-spec'd bike). Yesterday I went to ride the bike and saw some oil on the floor underneath the end of the left fork tube. I determined that there is a slow leak at the left fork tube dust cover. If you look closely, you an see the oil track down the center of the tube. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/Tony1M/leftforkleaking.jpg I've never worked on a motorcylce fork, so I read Freebird's excellent tech library article: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=496]Fork Seal Replacement - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I think I understand how to do the job, but, before I start the job, I'd like to determine if our bike already has progressive springs. The previous owner was very conscientious about maintaining the bike (it still looks in near-new condition), so it is quite possible that he installed progressive springs at some point. As I said, my wife and I ride the bike. I weigh about 285 and she about 130 (her precise weight is a closely-guarded national-security secret), so the bike is carrying 415 lbs of passengers. As far as I can tell, the travel of the fork does not bottom out during normal driving over some fairly substantial bumps. In short, the bike handles beautifully. How can I tell if the bike has progressive springs? I assume that I should also replace seals in the side that is not now leaking. Tell me if I'm wrong. How long should it take a savy newbie to replace the fork seals? How much longer, and how much more effort, if the springs are also replaced? (FWIW, I've rebuilt the carbs and the bike runs great, and I personally perform all of the maintenance on our 92 Accord [that we bought new], so I have some mechanical aptitude. I also have the "official" Yamaha service manual for the bike.) Also, I would say maybe 25 mls of oil have leaked. How much oil can I lose without noticing a change in handling? Can/should I still ride the bike while waiting for parts? Thanks for the advice.
  15. I found this on Ebay. FORK BRACE It'll be closing soon, and it's already more than..OK, not by much ...so far... our group buy brace. See what a great deal you guys are getting by belonging to VR.org....
  16. My wood brace slipped out and my bike fell forward down until the damper rod bottomed out. Both cap bolts were out and the spacer and springs. I was removing the drain plug on the right fork when it happened. Did I damage anything when this happened. After securing the bike the correct way i proceeded to change the oil in the right fork that went as planned. When I removed the drain plug on the left fork the one with the TRAC anti-dive design nothing would come out. And yes I even poured 100 cc in till it came to the top. Did i damage something or is it some other issue. Thanks in advance. danyoder50@comcast.net
  17. Has anyone purchased fork springs from Progressive lately? What dealer did you use since Progressive's web site sells these springs through dealers only and how long did it take. I orderd a set via Old Bike Barn two weeks ago (they had good pricing). I cannot get them to answer my email or check on my order. They will not answer their telephone either so I am looking for a new dealer. Thanks
  18. How do I know what is covered under the 5 year warranty and what isn't? My 05 RSTD is still under warranty (finally got my dealer to figure out it does indeed have a 5 year manufacturers warranty) and I THINK I have a front fork seal leaking. The manager claims that he called Yamaha and they told him that a fork seal is not covered under the warranty. Would like to call bull, but need some ammo. Also, would a leaking fork seal hold air?
  19. I'd just like to make a few comments about the fork brace and after market fork springs designed for the 1stGen Venture as there’s some misconception about what exactly they will do. Will the brace cure the dreaded high speed ‘Tank Slap’ experienced by some riders? No. The brace is not a cure-all Band-Aid. If your bike is experiencing high speed wobbles or tank slap it’s because the bike has a problem(s). Bad front or rear tire cap, out of round tire, bent rim, out of balance tire, weak fork springs, bent fork(s), bent main frame, worn steering head bearings, worn fork seals, low fork oil, high fork oil, worn axle bearings, etc. What the fork brace will do, along with new springs, is enhance the bike’s handling performance. They will improve the bike’s overall ride and stability. It will make panic stops smoother and more manageable. The effects of pot holes, curve tracking, rough surfaces will be reduced. Side torque due to uneven rough surfaces will be greatly reduced. In some instances a slight rebound wobble from small differences in rebound action due to seal or spring wear, will be reduced or eliminated. However, inevitably they will only continue to wear over time and will need to be addressed. These two mods should be done to every 1stGen on the road today. One is the after market fork brace. The other is improved fork springs. Both parts are relatively inexpensive, and the mods easy to perform, but the improvement in handling is huge. The OEM fork brace is inadequate, and cosmetic at best. All First Generation Ventures are 16 to 25 years old and are going to have weak springs. It’s a given. Improvements in spring technology have basically made the new OEM springs obsolete. If anyone is still riding around with original springs and brace on your bike, you’re short changing yourself, and your ride experience.
  20. So I think the front fork seals are weeping on my bike. When I had it up on a lift there is an accumulated dirt/goo under the right fork. Went by my dealer, they verified that it is still under warrant (that took some doing), and supposedly called Yamaha and was told that fork seals are NOT covered under the 5 year warranty. Anybody know any different?
  21. Just got back from the test ride on my latest monthly maintenance project on the 87 XVXZ1300 VR. New final drive gear pumpkin change out. No whinning or small slip when taking off from worn splines on the pumpkin hub. Finally got the brake system properly bleed. Nice to have rear brakes again. Replaced spring on rear brake switch........................Again this one should last. I guess its good for the brake light to come on when using the rear brakes. Replaced leaking fork seal. No more leaking fork oil opr messy clean up from oil all over the front end. Next a good bath and final assembly of lower fairings and right saddlebag. Then ready for N. Ga. M&E tomorrow.;
  22. OK that's it, curiosity and ignorance have finally gotten the better of me. I've read a lot of the posts regarding the fork brace including the big group purchase and differences/or not that it seems to make in your ride. I must admit that I've only had my Venture for a little less than 3 months and about 7,000 km's so my experience is limited on this bike. That having been said my previous ride (for the past 23 years) was an XJ1100 Maxim - This bike didn't have a fork brace. What is the big deal here??? In theory what does the fork brace do?? What is the theoretical (and practical for that matter) difference between no brace, the "weak"/OEM brace and the "stronger"/aftermarket brace that folks are purchasing? Can someone sort me out????
  23. I just put on the '87 fork legs on my '83. But one is leaking oil out the little drain screw. [The bike isn't even off the stands yet!] Are these screws supposed to have any little gasket washers on them? Thanks, Mark Koontz '83 Venture Wichita, KS
  24. The group buy deadline is May 31st so if any of you are still interested in picking up a fork brace check out http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35289 Any questions...PM me. http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/braceCompare%20(Small).jpg
