  1. I know there is quite a bit of info on this, but yesterday when I was out riding for the first time this season and on my new to me 2004 RSV, it popped and backfired on deceleration. The air filter is clean and I changed the fuel filter. I think tomorrow I will sync my carbs. Anyone have any suggestions on what else I could do that might possibly stop the popping and backfiring? It isn't bad, but it is still there. Thanks in advance Chris
  2. My nephew bought an 86 Nissan pickup. Starts right up and drives good. The problem is it has NO power. when you punch it it just falls on its face. I changed the plugs, wires, rotor cap, distributor cap, air filter, fuel filter, sea foamed it, and reset the timing. Now the lady he got it from said that she had just put this engine in, also said this engine had a ton of power in the donor truck and when her mechanic put it in this truck it had none. Any ideas? This thing will not even get to 60 mph. Shaun
  3. Trying to rescue my daughters boyfriends car. He filled the tank up and shortly after the car started stuttering and stalling and will start again after a few minutes but has no power on a hill and will stall out again. I'm thinking bad gas and/or it is clogging the fuel filter. It's a 1988 Cutlass with the 5 Ltr. Working from memory that car has a fuel fitler that screws into the carb body with either a filter inside of the barrel housing or the barrel housing itself is a filter. I'm pretty sure it has steel fuel lines. Anybody have any info on that. Headed out in a bit to see what I can do. Be nice to grab the right filter on the way. Thanks Mike
  4. I have almost 13K miles on the bike. In the not so distant future, I plan to replace my fule filter since it is cheap preventative maintenance for my bike. I've read about the NAPA 3011 fuel fitler, but not sure if this if for a 1st Gen or 2nd Gen. At any rate, I may opt for an OEM type filter or go for a 'car' fuel filter. What do you guys recommend and the best place to order online?
  5. OK everybody, Im getting ready to change the oil on my 91 vr. I found a web page that does oil filter cross reference(http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html). It states that my bike should use the ch6002. And that is what I have been using since I bought the bike 3 yrs ago. Now for my problem. The ch6002 is no longer available and all that can be found to order from yamah dealor or auto stores is the K&N replacement at almost $15. Im cheap and woould love to find a better option. I looked at the specs on the canister filters and the ch6002 and the ch6003 are almost identical in dementions. Will the ch6003 filter work as they are readily available and cost less than $5? Nay sugestions will be apreciated. I seem to remeber a post that said these 2 filters were intercahngable but want to make sure before I take it apart and try. Tahnks in advance. David
  6. I just install a inline fuel filter below the front seat. The hose is 5/16 and I cut the fuel line at a good access point under the seat and installed. Note, be sure to give yourself lots of fuel hose as it will easily slide under the fuel tank. I left the orginal filter in there as I only have 14,500 miles on my bike. If ever I am in that area working I will remove the orginal filter completely but because its kinda hard to get to I am leaving it for now. I am going to get some flack over that!! ha ha, but I can take it. I used Napa, Part#730-9561. I like this fuel filter because it comes complete in that you do not have to screw in the fuel connectors on the ends. The fuel connectors are part of the end piece that spins off when replacing the fuel filter inside, (filter replacement # 750-9566) applies. Oh, by the way, I used my carbtune also and it was great and easy to use. Now I just have to get brave enough to do the valves seats. Gulp!!! See photo attached. DanC:cool10:
  7. Looking for a little info for the 600mi service. . . I will be on the road back home, 600 miles into the 2100 mile trip, and will of course need to do an oil and filter change, and rear-end oil change, my question is what size wrenches do I need for the oil drain plug, and rear diff drain and fill. It takes the same filter as my zx14 so the filter wrench and wratchet isn't a problem, and i need to carry as few as possible on my flight. Thanks in advance for helping. cs..
  8. Well today I changed my fuel filter. Went with the F10024. Wasn't to bad took about 30 minutes. One think I noticed was how long the fuel pump ran. Before it would "click" for about 10 seconds. With the new filter it only clicked about 2 seconds. Anyhow the chicken thing. After getting the filter changed I started her up to check for leaks. While it's running I hear was sounds like a "chicken cackling" near the front of the engine. I gave her some rpms and the noise went away but came back when the rpm's came back down. I'm wonder If the noise could be the water pump? . Now for to the coolant. Should have time for that, then it's off to work. :depressed:
  9. ....full of other things at the moment... Does the oil filter go on the bolt BEFORE the spring and washer (pic 1) OR Does the spring and washer go on the bolt before the oil filter (pic 2) From what I'm viewing on the parts catalogue it looks like pic 2 should be correct but it's not absolutely clear, (to this mind at the moment) and I'm sure I've taken these parts off the bolt in BOTH configurations. And before a sharp eye notices...YES, I've got a new o-ring on the bolt...these pics are off the spare parts that are piling up too quickly around here.
  10. Been scanning for some good deals for my up comming maintenace plans. I came across these prices all on one site.Qty Item Total 1 1FK-24560-10 Yamaha Fuel Filter $4.78 1 KN-303 K&N Performance Oil Filter $4.61 4 NGK-DPR8EA-9 NGK Spark Plugs $10.40 Subtotal $19.79 The shipping will be just under 12 bucks. 11. My 2006 FJR 1300 which is fuel injected does not have a Fuel Filter
  12. I am looking for the name of the grommet that holds the top lid down in the front. I call the top lid the lid that you have to remove to service the air filter, (not the air filter box lid), it is held in the back by the one phillips screw and washers. My front lid is wanting to come up as I am driving, and I think there is supposed to be a grommet that it presses into in the front, or under all the wiring. Does anyone have one for sale or send me in the right direction with a part number, or that has come up with another method to hold the top lid down? Forgive me if I am calling the top lid by the wrong name, I tried searching using a lot of different phrases and came up empty. It is an 89 Venture. This is the one I am going to fix the fuse panel on this winter. Thanks, Don
  13. Some time ago I bought a magnet that is half moon shape and fits around the Oil filter. It will catch any small particles of metal and hold it to the lower part of the oil filter thus preventing it from getting into the engine. Question?? Does anyone know where I can buy these as I am unable to find them any longer. I acquired the one I have from Whitney but they no longer sell them. Help!! I two boys what one for their bikes. Thanks, Dan:depressed:
  14. Better than papertowels and a lot lessexpensive... COFFEE FILTERS Coffee filters ..... Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones. 1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers. 2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling. 3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish. 4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter. 5. Protect a cast-iron skillet.... Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust. 6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter. 7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter. 8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale. 9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods. 10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes. 11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.. 12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.. 13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease. 14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers." 15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliquing soft fabrics. 16.. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors. 17... Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews. 18.. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car. 19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills. 20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash. 21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage. 22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls. 23. Use them to sprout seeds.. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout. 24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book.. 25.. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc. OH YEAH THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS TOO.
  15. i know this is already running in another thread but i wanted to add a video with out getting into trouble so here it is your fram oil filter and some others hope it tells you what you want to know \ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX0xrqvlsNI&feature=fvw]YouTube - Are Fram Oil Filters The Best ?[/ame]
  16. Hi, I read the oil filter cross reference sheet on the technical link and was wondering if anyone from Canada used a Canadian Tire (Motormaster) oil filter and what the number is? I was in Canadian Tire this evening and there were no Fram filters that fit my 2004 RSV. Thank you in advance.

    OEM Air Filter

Where is a good place to buy OEM filters for a 09 venture, I do not want a K&N filter but doing a web search on OEM isn't working out so well... Thanks
  18. Ran some errands on the RSV yesterday. Out of the blue, "the light came on" darn this thing is sure is shifting "clunky". Well it does have 5500 miles on the T6 Rotella. I wondered how long it would run, cause it was not very discolored. Changed (stayed with the T6) it this afternoon, sprayed dry-lube on the linkage and man, all the difference in the world!!! BTW If you use the PL14610 instead of the PL14612 you gonna need a filter wrench like the on the on the bottom (or the kind that look like big jaw pliers). The longer "610" fits fine, but comes too close to a frame rail to use a wrench like the one on the upper left.
  19. Ok folks I have a laundry list of things I want to do to my 89 VR but can't seem to find a consolidated list of vendors so I figured I would come here and seek out the experts. Here is an abreviated list of what I want to do: 1. Convert oil filter from cartridge to spin-on so I need a good source for the oil filter adapter. 2. Install highway pegs so I can get a breeze up the old pant legs; with the VR having a 7/8" tube I am struggling to find something that works. 3. Delete the stock exhaust collector so I can run a wide range of mufflers.
  20. I hope I am doing this correct. I have recently purchased a 1990 Yamaha Venture Royal, 1300 cc. I would like to replace the spark plugs but can't seem to get to them all. Can anyone help me? Do I have to remove the battery, and air filter? Thank you... Hope i am not stepping out of bounds by reposting this for Slim.
  21. OK sorry if this has already been asked. I did several serches and came up empty first. I know that my 1991 uses a ch6002 parts number filter. Thats where the rub comes in. Nobody in my area except the dealor carries it and hes crazy at $20. I have found at a local auto parts store the ch6000 and the ch 6003 . Will either of these work? they look to be smaller than the ones Ive used from what I remember. But that is dealing with my memory and sometimes it fails me. Seems to me I remeber someone talking about using the ch6000 . Any help is apreciated. David
  22. Ok all, I need your help. I'm looking for every possible failure mode that would cause fuel to leak out of the overflow on the carbs. After rebuild install, carbs were leaking out of number 1. Then taking it off and checking everything out we put it back together. Number 1 no longer leaked but no. 3 & 4 did. Very frustrating. It appeared to happen after some problems with the throttle cable, where we removed the carbs again and turned them upside down to keep the cable attached to the carbs. Not sure that putting them upside caused it but the timing is there. Background; 1987 Royale, 8900 miles. Carbs were rebuilt by a trusted V-max guy. The bike has been synced and runs great except for the gas leak. The tank has been lined (Red) new fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs. The carbs didn't originally leak when first installed. So looking for input on all possible causes of the leak. Also, would carbs leak more or less during regular idle? Thanks in advance, Bill
  23. Can anybody tell me how to filter listings so I don't even see the listings with a reserve on them? I see the filter for auctions....but nothing to select no reserve only.
  24. The K&N filter that came with the '91 when I first bought it had a very soggy oil soaked foam seal. The filter cleaned up well, but the seal was toast so I put the it on the shelf. While talking to Rocket I mentioned the bad seal and he told me that K&N would warantee it. Their filters do have a lifetime warantee. So I sent them an Email offering to buy one since I wasn't the original purchaser. They replied and sent me a new seal free of charge. They even picked up the shipping. They now have a lifetime customer...
  25. Ok, I am having a senior moment. I am about to do some service on my 86VR and cannot remember how much oil to use when doing an oil change, I am repalcing the filter also. My DEAR DEAR wife cleaned up MY garage and now I cannot find my service manual. Thanks ofr the help; DON
