  1. I just got my tach-gauge set-up from Ponch. Looks great, and looking forward to getting it installed. I'm thinking of making a change in it though. I looked at this digital voltmeter: http://www.digitalmeter.com/cgi-bin/...nfig=ent-datel I'd like to mount that where Ponch has the cruise button. My plan was to mount the cruise button somewhere else (in the dash, bottom edge of the dash, inner fairing, I'm not sure). I'd like to add the voltmeter to the gauge cluster, and I don't need to SEE the cruise button, just be able to reach it. Normally, I turn the cruise on when I start the bike, and not touch the button again. Only rarely do I turn it off, mostly when I'm riding in the dark and the cruise dash lights get a bit annoying. My question now is: Can that on-off switch be wired around and just let the cruise be on full time? The cruise control button on the handlebars does all the actual controlling of the cruise. I'm pretty sure my car and pickup cruise is on every time I start the vehicle, unless I choose to turn it off. Could the bike be the same way? The on-off switch is a bit more than on-off. 3 positions, off, on(to turn it on), and the central position that apparently doesn't turn it on, but keeps it on once it's been turned on. One possibily would be to find a simpler smaller switch that could be located mostly out of sight but within easy reach as you ride. Any thoughts, or outright know-how, on this idea?? Larry
  2. I was wondering what you cruise at on the highway when you are touring? All state and provincial speed limits aside; what do you normally cruise at or what is the RSV capable of cruising at for sustained periods of time? I like to cruise between 130 and 140 kph on the superslab and about 120 130 on the secondary roads. Is the RSV capable of 160 kph+? That would be 100mph+ or is that really pushing it's limits? I guess my second question is passing. Do you have to down shift in order to pass comfortably and if so does she have enough grunt to get around traffic with ease? Thanks for your comments in advance.
  3. Today, I tried to use my cruise control, which normally works well. The set and resume lights lit up and then went out almost immediately. The on light did not come on. When I pushed the black power button again, none of the lights lit up. Every second time I pushed the black button, the same two lights (set and resume) would come on for just a second and then go out. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
  4. Hi All, Does anyone have info on the Markland cruise control? I have an 83 VR1200 (1300 86 engine,) and it doesn't work currently. I would like to find some info, schematic, etc. on the electronics on it. When I got the bike, it would work intermittently. I took apart the head, and resoldered some connections that looked iffy, and then it worked fine. I rteplaced the wheat lamps in it, and it lights up, but now there is no response from the cruise unit, it does not pull the throttle cables like it should (not at all). This is the aftermarket one, not the factory VR cruise like the 84 on has. Thanks in advance!
  5. Ok took the RSTD out on the interstate for the first time today. I went to put on the cruise and when I pushed the switch on it did not come on. it did come on when I pushed it all they way up but not when I just push it to on and it clicked. is it normal to have to push switch all the way to the top of the switch travel before the cruise comes on? Thanks for the help
  6. Hello, I have a couple of things working against me here. I am new to the Venture so I am not sure how things should work based on other rides, and I bought my bike used so I do not know what mods/problems the PO may have done/had. I have searched and read all the items on this site I can but have not seen the same issue I have. Okay, When I press the set button, the set light comes on but no cruise engages. If I press and hold the res/acc button for a few seconds, it does engage and seems to work, although with a few mph swing up and down. Not really sure how consistent it should be so not sure if this part is right. Also, once engaged, pressing the res/acc will not increase speed, but press and hold will. Ant ideas where I should start checking?
  7. Hey gang, I've got the plastic off from working on the carbs and thought I'd lube the cables and check my cruise control that doesn't want to engage. Electronics seem to work but the cruise won't engage. I've opened up the cable cover where the pulleys are and noticed quite a bit of slack. See attached. Is that normal? Also, another problem I introduced is the spring fell out. What is the proper orientation of the spring. Any pics available?
  8. Keep in mind I know almost nothing about these bikes (so far) but I have a vast background in building cars so I'm not completely stupid. I've already started doing a few mods to the RSTD but I have a couple of questions that I couldnt find the answers for.... and yes I searched. Mine is and 06 and it has cruise control and I've already done the AIS plugging and Jasons mod. Now when I did Jasons mod I connected both runners on each side... but in the write up it mentioned I had to T into 1&2 to keep the cruise working, also it mentions T-ing into 3&4 for the ignition module to work right.... Does the 06 need both of these or did I do extra plumbing for nothing??
  9. The Back To The Bricks car show/Cruise is going on in Flint Michigan now thru Saturday, Same time as the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. So the Daughter and I went down the cruise route to check out the cars. At the end of the route in Grand Blanc we pulled into the Grand Mall where all sort of things are going on. We were directed to a motorcycle parking area where next thing I know we are being registered for the motorcycle show. Lots of Harley's, old Honda's and my dirty Yamaha. It was a show what you rode kind if thing. The pictures are , my Bike and a PERFECT Honda CBX in line 6 cylinder. Have no idea who won because we left shortly after the tornado warning sirens started going off.
  10. I traded my 07 RSTD for a 07 Road Star Silverado Midnight. It was in like new condition with 7200 miles. The "ole" girl served me well but it was just a little hefty for me. The Road Star is just perfect. I can firmly plant both feet on the ground and it's a 100 PBS lighter. This bike has loads of torque and when you shift it in 5th it actually feels like an overdrive. The RPM's drop like a rock and you can cruise all day at 70 no problem. It is not as comfy for my wife, but she never rode that much with me. It's what makes you happy right! Mark:bagpipes-emoticon:
  11. My cruise turns on and flashes twice then repeats. I can't set it.
  12. The wif and me are taking 3 days in early September to meander down to Ft. Laurderdale, stopping to visit some relatives along the way, and then boarding a cruise ship for a nice relaxing 5 day cruise to Grand Caymen and Cozumel. Then back on the scoots for a 2 day trip home, with a stop in St. Augustine. Gonna be hot but fun! Funny how everyone has had the same question of us: "How you gonna pack for a cruise on a bike?" I say "what, you never heard of duffel bags on the back seat?" Cagers. Gotta love 'em.
  13. http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Motorcycles/road-glide-ultra.html#/gallery 103 in motor, ABS, Cruise all standard
  14. I'm not familiar with 1st gens at all. Was cruise control standard on the bikes or was it optional? How does the cruise servo connect to the throttle cables? Does it connect to the junction box right in front of the carbs?
  15. I have an 87 and the machanic took the bike apart to do some work and the cables are shot. He tried getting new ones but said they were no longer in existence. These are special cables because they go through the cruise control. My question is: Is there somewhere where I can get new cables? Does anyone have decent cables from a parts bike? Where do I get a parts/maintenence/ diagraphm book to trouble shoot the cruise control if not working correctly? Does anyone have a working cruise control from a parts bike? Thanks Woody Email to byekryam@aol.com
  16. I'm new to the venture world but not to the world of motorcycle problems. so here's the story-- the cruise turns "on" and the "set" light turns on but does not maintain a set speed. its like the system "thinks" it is working fine, but its not. I've spent a lot of time searching the forums here for answers to my cruise problem but no luck. everyone suggests the clutch handle----OPS check- OK. then the front brake lever----- OPS check- OK. then the rear brake-----OPS check- OK. I don't get the 'blinking lights' that the service manual mentions-- this indicates that it is NOT a vacuum pump or c/c unit problem. Please help. I'm prepping for a week long tour of the mid-Atlantic and north east US. Cruise would be nice. thanks everyone.
  17. Looking for information if anyone else has ever had a issue with cruise not canceling when tapping front brake? I had found one post about this 2 years old so must not be a common problem?
  18. I just thought I'd pass this along for any of you VR riders who just love to enjoy your cruise control. Over a month ago I replaced my throttle cables; still a little stiff. Wrench and I decided to replace the cruise control cables as well. POINT: it too him over 3.5 weeks to find them, so they are getting scarce. Mine cost me a little less than $63. At 71 years and on an 86 not sure I'll now buy a spare set. HOWEVER: the cruise just climbs up hills without any of those familiar 'drops.' I have no idea how long that will last, but for now I'll enjoy it! Meanwhile, off Tuesday with dogman (Dave) who is driving to Ft Collins, CO, from Toronto, Canada. We will be taking 14 W off I-25 past FC, to Cameron Pass (10,276 Ft), to Steamboat Springs, to Glennwood Springs; There will be an overnighter there, with Dave in his trailer camper and me in a motel. Then we split as he heads to Los Vegas where his wife is flying in for their vacation, and I head back home. That is, IF I last that long! LOL JackZ aka DePreach
  19. It didnt happen all the time but travelling 70 mph it seemed like the engine dropped to a lower speed it even with the the cruise control it would kick off than i twist the throttle and Im back off running again
  20. My 87 Venture's speedometer just stopped working. I have checked the connections and when I checked the cable on the front wheel I spun the cable manually and it changed the odometer so it is apparently connected at the top. I was on the highway today and when I tried to engage the cruise the power light came on but I could not "set" a speed. Does the cruise control work off the speedo cable? Could something at the front wheel connection be loose or broken? I have the rotor covers so it is somewhat of a problem getting at the connection. Thanks for any help.
  21. I need to adjust the slack in my throttle cable and the manual says to loosen the lock nut on the cruise control. I found the throttle cable. Where do they hide the cruise control unit It's an '07 Venture. (I gave up looking after a couple of minutes cause soup was on the table and I haven't got back to it) Thanks, John
  22. Cruise control will not stay on when set . The lights come on but when i set it for about 3to 5 sec it holds then lets go.
  23. I have bought an 05 Kawasaki Concourse and want to put a throttle lock on it because it doesn't have cruise control like my 89 RSV. What is the best to buy?
  24. Recently acquired this bike (83 model) and have only ridden for about a week. I noted today that the cruise control will not engage. Could not find anything wrong with the fuses. I have not troubleshot beyond that. Any suggestions, or do I need to take it to a Yamaha tech?
  25. Does anyone know if it's possible to deactivate the crusie control "bump" switch? In other words, to keep the cruise control from automatically disengaging when hitting a large bump in the road. I realize this is a safety feature, but after installing a sidecar to my 2005 RSV, the extra movement from the hack, as well as the lovely roads here in NJ, cause my cruise control to disengage much more easily than when I was on 2 wheels. I'm hoping someone has an answer as I really miss being able to use cruise on the highway. Thanks in advance for any insight!!! Rob
